Wonderful. Bill and his team were great to work with and the final product is just stunning. Our 115 year old house had so many old patch jobs, dead vines and discolorations, it needed a lot of help. Bill and his team re-patched the problem areas, chipped out old stucco, helped identify a long-term water issue and re-scathed the entire house. Our 115 year old house looks new again.

Pretty well, good work, a few minor cleanup items were left for me to do. Two people came and spent a total of about 8 hours total here patching/repairing over two days. Stucco workmanship was good and the people were all easy to deal with. The reason for the B rating is the job seemed kind of expensive for 16 man-hours.

After contacting two stucco repair companies that apparently did not want my business since they wouldn't personally speak with me I contacted McClellan Exteriors. Bill promptly answered the phone and we set up a visit for an estimate. The estimate was very reasonable and was able to schedule the work within a week. All work was completed within two weeks and couldn't have been more pleased with quality of work performed. Once work started it was determined that not as much needed replacement and Bill reduced the cost of the project accordingly. Workers should be commended on how well they cleaned up the job site and the quality of their. Highly recommend this company for stucco repairs.

Bill came to the house and provided an estimate with a couple options because of the garage. We did not have a deadline so Bill tried to find a time when we weren't facing rainstorms. Scaffolding was erected first around the house. When they began work plastic tarps were laid out and cleaned up every day as they completed the work. Re-dashing involved a base coat, which was brushed on and then a texture with a slightly darker color, which was troweled on. The base was applied very thoroughly and the texture artistically. With a couple of interruptions for rain the process took about a week and a half. The estimate was $7200 to $8600 depending on options. We did a third option and the cost was $7500. We could not be more pleased with the work and the results and we would highly recommend them for anyone doing a re-dash.
Description of Work: Our house is a 1937 Tutor story and a half with brick and stucco. The stucco was a textured surface with in a two-tone beige. We have a separate double garage that also needed patching and stucco. We have owned the house for 38 years. In the years before we purchased the home insulation was added by drilling holes in the outside wall and blowing in the insulation. This was a somewhat common approach for older homes in 70's. The patch job for the holes always looked tacky. Overall the stucco was in generally good shape but discolored and there were several small cracks and one place where the stucco has bulged. We also have replaced all of the windows and wrapped the trim with aluminum so the stucco needed to meet the trim.

The owners fiance (who didn't own the property)contacted me to fix some holes inside two flower boxes she wasn't using. I told them the correct way to do the repair would be to remove the flower boxes, and fill in stucco repair under the windows once they are removed. They didn't want to spend the money for the correct way, and told me they had only $700 to spend on the repairs. I gave them another alternative to cover the boxes with metal to keep the water out. Which meant getting another contractor to do this type of work. He insisted he wanted a few holes filled in the flower boxes (on house wall) and wanted me to poke some holes n the bottom of the flower boxes so they wouldn't collect water, and the work needed to be done that week so they could collect some escrow money. I explained to them this wasn't going to work, but did the work regardless the way they wanted. Of course the end result was a quick fix that didn't work like I tried to explain to them. Our company takes pride in our work, and always tries to inform the home owner the correct way way to do the work without any shortcuts.

This was a very good experience from the beginning. My contact was always with Bill McClellan, who would always return phone calls timely. I had some cracks in my garage stucco due to normal settling and wanted them patched. The estimate was the same as I'd gotten from another company, but Bill provided more detailed information about the repairs, and mentioned that one of the areas required new metal lath. He also offered me an Angie's list discount. The work crew did a great job. They used a drop cloth and tape around the service door. The work was efficient, too. I saw the truck, the work and clean up was done quickly, and suddenly the truck was gone. I needed to have one additional patch done and, again, I looked out the window and saw that it had been completed (early on a Saturday morning). I would not hesitate to use this company again. I did meet Bill in person and he is a very easy person to work with, but also is professional.

The experience from the initial quote to the actual application of stucco was very smooth. The explanation of the process and what to expect was very clear. There were some repairs to the existing stucco (cracks) and this work was performed quickly and was well done. Two weeks was allowed for the repairs to cure. We asked for an estimate of when the follow on work would occur and Bill (McClellan) was right on time with his estimate. The crew of four showed up on a Monday and began the process with prepping which included taping windows, removing gutter downspouts, removing lights, removing house numbers, and erecting scaffolding. Particular attention was used in lying down drop cloths. It was clear that great care was taken to protect the house and plantings. The individuals on the crew had clearly worked together for a long time and they worked very well together. Everyone had a role and they used their time efficiently. The end product is very well done. It is apparent that the persons actually applying the mortar were trained and skilled craftsmen who had years of experience. Their help with color and texture was very valuable. The crew was very good about cleaning up. They made certain that any mortar remains were cleaned up and that the driveway was washed down.

I had a great experience with McClellan Exteriors. I love the finish on my house and I love the new color. The timing was perfect. The job was scheduled very quickly and finished as agreed, with lots of communication throughout. All of the contractors involved were professional, punctual and always concerned with the welfare of the property. I would absolutely recommend them to everyone and would call them again myself. I am absolutely delighted with the experience and the outcome.

stucco, replacement windows

I contacted Bill from McClellan Exteriors to inquire about a quote for a stucco repair from a window replacement, and topcoat a few areas where trim was removed around windows. Bill called me back the next day to get the details and my information to provide a quote and said he would come out to take a look at the project. He called within a few days and went over my options to either repair the stucco only, repair and repaint the front of the house, or repair and re-dash the entire front of the house. This was my first house I owned that was stucco but had done some research in the past about some of the things to consider when working with this type of material. My biggest hesitation to patch and paint the stucco was fact that the exterior would now require additional maintenance and would likely need to be repainted in the next 5-10 years, something that I would prefer to avoid if at all possible. I reviewed his quotes which were: $2,600 to patch only, $6,100 for patch and paint the entire front, and $7,200 for a re-dash. I understood from my research that this is not an inexpensive job and decided I should get a few more quotes. In the meantime, I was asked by a work colleague who I was going to use for the stucco job, as she happened to be looking for a stucco contractor as well. Since McClellan was a highly rated company on Angie's List and Bill seemed knowledgable regarding my project, I referred his company to my colleague without hesitation. I kept in touch with her to see what her job would cost, and if she decided to go with Bill. She had another stucco contractor come out for an estimate prior to Bill, and was told it would be about $10,000 for her project. She mentioned this was only to patch and re-dash one side of her house. Upon talking with Bill and him learning that she had another contractors quote, he had made her a verbal offer to her to re-dash the entire home for $10,000 cash. This was appealing to her and she was likely going to go with him. My colleague was very clear to Bill that she was leaving for Portland on Friday afternoon for a business trip (he came out on Wednesday) and she communicated that she wanted to have this set up prior to her leaving. Bill said he would have a quote/contract to her Wednesday evening. She did not receive the email as promised. She called and texted him on Thursday and Friday morning, leaving him a message that she did not receive the contract. She did not hear back from Bill until the following Monday. She replied to his email and said she already sent a deposit for the other contractor. Bill asked if she would reconsider but since she already sent the deposit she was unable to do so. I know she was likely going to go with McClellan, especially since the work he would have been doing was much more extensive. I, too, called and left a message for Bill and sent an email (around the same time as my colleague) with a few questions regarding my job, but did not hear back from Bill for over a week. He finally called me back and said he had a family reunion and was tied up. I asked Bill my questions on the phone then and learned that my understandings of the re-dash cost were incorrect. He had mentioned that the cost to re-dash the front was $7,200 plus the $2,600 to patch the areas where the trim was removed and patch around the new window. Initially I thought it was $2,600 to patch only, and $7,200 to patch and re-dash. However, Bill offered to do the entire re-dash job, including the patch, for $7,200 cash. I told Bill that I had another contractor from Angie's List come out for a bid that same day and I was waiting to hear from him. Bill asked if I would let him know what this other contractors bid was so he could see if he was in line with the others. I agreed to let him know. I heard back from this contractor a few days later and was pleasantly surprised of his estimate of the job. He came in at $5,700 to patch and re-dash the entire front of my home. I had a good feeling when this guy came out to my home. He was very knowledgable, gave some good ideas regarding trim and texture, and even asked if he could contact my window installer prior to them coming out to make sure they installed the new window properly. He also gave me the address of a nearby commercial building that his guys were just finishing up at for me to take a look at their work. Needless to say, I ended up going with this contractor and couldn't have been any happier. Since I am limited to speak only about the communication of Bill's company, still I would recommend that he takes this issue seriously and works to improve his businesses communication. He definitely lost out on a $10,000 job, and who knows, had I heard back from him sooner, I may not have reached out to another contractor and hired Bill to do my job as well.

The above review does not represent me, or my company. During the above mentioned time, my family was in the middle of a family reunion in which we hosted over 70 people. No excuse for not returning a call, however, it was important to me to be with family for a long weekend. I did return phone calls and explained my delay and they had already moved on. Most of my customers would understand such circumstances and would be willing to work with me for our top quality work. I'm sorry they felt the need to so quickly move on without discussion. I looked at 3-4 stucco firms a few years ago and got estimates that were comparable, but decided to wait until 2014 to bite the bullet. This is not an inexpensive procedure. Of the firms we looked at, I really liked the reviews that I saw for McClellan Exteriors, and really liked Bill McClellan, the owner. He seems really down to earth and provides a good services at a reasonable cost. When we decided to do the redash, we called Bill and asked for a good re-estimate and went with it with getting any other bids. Our stucco was in bad shape, with stains all over and patched holes where the previous owner insulated the house from the outside. When we bought the house, that was the first thing we noticed, and thought it took much away from the curb appeal. Bill assured us that the patches would be covered up, cracks fixed, and holes filled, so we crossed our fingers. First, the crew set up scaffolding all around the house and did the sandblasting to remove the layers of dirt and paint on the old stucco. Bill warned us that the inside of our house would be coated with dust, and he wasn't kidding. It reminded me of sanding SheetRock. Besides being dusty, it's extremely noisy. I was working in the house that day and survived breathing in some of the dust, but honestly, you don't really want to be anywhere near the house when they are doing this. Next, they came over and did the redash in about two days. Our house isn't big, but it's still a lot of surface area and these guys worked fast. And, everything was cleaned up very well. In the end, we were extremely satisfied with the work. All of the ugly patches are nowhere to be seen and our house looks beautiful--like a brand new house. We were simply amazed at how much better it looks, and I'm certain if we were to sell the house, we would make up the cost in a greater sales price. No doubt our home now has the curb appeal we always wanted when we moved in. I hope I never have to redash my house again, but if I do, I will definitely hire McClellan Exteriors again.

I'm sorry to write a negative review for Bill, but I can't in good faith write a positive one. I hired McClellan Exteriors to patch stucco and paint it once a three-season porch was removed. Bill gave me an estimate ranging from $900 - $1300 depending on how much of the wall would need patching once the porch was gone. He sent a guy to do the patch and he ended up patching 1/4 of the area. The bottom of the wall was very uneven so Bill sent some other folks to correct it. He then billed me $1300. I asked for an explanation for the highest price since only a fourth of the wall was patched. He then asked me what I thought it should cost, which I found odd since I'm not in his trade, but I stated that I expected to pay towards the low end of the estimate because I thought the range was based on how much of the wall would be patched. I also explained that I didn't think I should cover the cost of sending men out twice since the first patch was done unevenly. Bill then invoiced me $900, which I paid immediately. I waited a week and then asked when the painting would be done; he had left me a voicemail two weeks before saying he would wait a week for the stucco to cure. He emailed to say he was too busy to do the painting. I want to be clear that Bill seems to be a nice guy and he addressed the uneven patch quickly. Still, because of the uneven patching, charging the highest price without explanation, and backing out of completing the job means I cannot recommend him. He also didn't apply the Angie's List discount, but with all the other issues I didn't bother bringing that up.

[member name removed] called me to get a stucco estimate after she removed a screen porch addition on the back of her house. The wall inside the porch connected to the house was covered with wood siding. I gave her a verbal quote of $2,600.00 assuming I would need to re-stucco the entire surface. After discussing the quote, I thought if I could remove a section of wood to see what stucco was remaining behind the wall, I could give her a better indication of the work involved. She agreed, and when I did this, I saw most of the stucco was in tact and gave her a written estimate between $900.00-$1,300.00. I also gave her and estimate for painting the stucco wall for $600.00. She agreed to the stucco repair, but did not want me to paint. After the porch was removed, there was a coved lip on the bottom of the stucco wall that required one additional trip to build out flush with the existing stucco. In addition. She asked me to fill in a gap on her foundation by the back door and remove and haul away a roof metal flashing piece which should have been done by the demolition contractor. I did this request at no extra charge. During the process of the stucco repairs, she had changed her mind and wanted me to go ahead with painting the back wall. I told her my work load was so busy I no longer had time to complete the painting since I did not have it on my schedule. I didn’t know she was an Angie’s list member until she submitted her report. The discount ad I run states “must mention coupon when calling for estimate” She never mentioned it. I believe the extra work I performed compensates for the $45.00 she is asking for.

We have renovated homes for the past 25 years but we never owned a home with a stucco exterior. I joined Angie's List, in part, because no one I knew could provide a solid recommendation for stucco work. We selected McClellan Exteriors because of the excellent ratings and the fact that Bill promptly returned calls, offered sound advice and provided a reasonable range of options. They did not disappoint. The crew did a nice job of explaining the process, worked around our schedule, demonstrated outstanding craftsmanship and took the time and effort to thoroughly clean-up the job site (and put down clean plastic in the event of more rain). In addition, they came back to fix a small section that I uncovered after the job was completed. Frankly, we're blown away by the transformation. The color and texture are spot-on and the house looks fabulous.

They were excellent and there was nothing I would have changed. They were prompt and fast. They showed up when they said they would and they were done in less than 2 days. It was excellent work. They gave us a bid earlier and they did everything they said. We were extremely pleased. The price was great.
