Think twice before hiring. When looking to update our 2009 custom kitchen, aspects of their small operation seemed to be a good fit for our project. Overall they had been nice, personable and easy to have in our home. Jake functioned as the carpenter/installer and Aimee, the painter. They worked with Joel, an independent craftsman, who would be the source for their skilled woodworking needs. The project included flattering our island, cabinet modifications, and enameling. In hindsight, the project was beyond their skill level. Jake/Aimee seem to fit best with smaller paint and basic carpentry type jobs. They tried to meet expectations, but we all soon realized they couldn’t deliver as they became increasingly and outwardly frustrated with mistakes throughout the project. Some mistakes included making custom paneling with incorrect profile scaling, repeatedly reapplying incorrectly color-matched enamel (so much so that the paint sagged and is also now peeling), poor quality control with enameling by leaving uneven spray applied to multiple areas (leaving a permanent gritty/dusty residue behind), and poor planning with an appliance cabinet modification, to name a few. When concerns were brought to their attention we were met with comments like, “it’s close enough,” “all tradespeople cut corners,” “I only focus on where the eye can see,” and “It’s Joel’s fault-he had a stroke last year and is making mistakes.” We were completely taken back by their lack of accountability/integrity for their trade/service/product. Any happiness about the project was overshadowed by their unprofessional behavior. We withheld 3% of payment because the terms of the contract were not met. An appliance cabinet door install was left sticking out 7” (instead of 2”) in a high traffic area. Jake/Aimee gave us two choices: keep the door as is or go doorless. Aimee grew increasingly snarky in her tone when we didn’t want to settle by choosing either option. They stated they had no interest in addressing the issue and were “wiping their hands” of it. We were left to source and pay someone else to finish their work. After withholding the cost for the appliance garage they proclaimed us “unreasonable” and “difficult to work with.” They refused to return to complete any punch list items (to include installing 67 cabinet pulls, covering studs and electrical left exposed in garbage pullout, realigning 9 drawers, addressing cracking enamel etc). We were left with an 42” wide unfinished appliance garage AND a list of punch list items (that they received payment for). Their communications that followed were baseless and emotional, their lack of professionalism shocking. If you have custom cabinetry/woodwork, expect a high quality product, are not into corners being cut, don’t want to “settle” when mistakes are made, want workers who are onsite beyond 11a-3p, then definitely look elsewhere. We’ve been homeowners for 20+ years and have hired companies big and small to do projects in 9 homes. We have never been so disappointed as we were with Jake and Aimee. We hired them after reading the same positive reviews that are posted online, so think twice. Choosing to go with Barnett Cabinetry for our kitchen update was a big mistake.

I recently purchased a house and remodeled the 18 year old kitchen. Because the cabinets were solid oak, I made the scary decision to have them painted. I can’t say enough good things about Barnett Cabinet Painting and the unbelievable job they did. Aimee’s communication was great from the start. She showed me how the finish would look and was then meticulous in matching the colors I chose. She stayed on schedule and finished the day she said she would – despite the multiple steps the process takes. Anything that was not perfect, was made that way after her touch up. You get the feeling that both Aimee and Jake are 100% committed to making you happy. This was a really pleasant experience and they did an amazing job. I could not be happier.
