My overall experience with them was fine. They were very knowledgeable, prompt and courteous. They came back with an estimate within 24 hours and the person who came out was probably there for only half an hour. We haven?t yet taken a decision to use their services yet, but I was happy with them. We are considering using their services in the future and I am also going to call other companies to come out and give me an estimate. However, my initial reaction about them is a positive one, but I may not even use them.
Description of Work: I used the services of A to Z Tile to give me an estimate to install the flooring for 2 bathrooms in the last week.

The whole process went very well. Val did excellent work, always showed up when he said he would, and communicated very well - both by phone and email. He was extremely responsive. He was also very tidy - cleaning up after each days' work - kind of a big deal when you consider he did work on all three of our baths. He was also very accomodating on the schedule - working around our needs - but making sure we always had at least one functioning bathroom. I also appreciated how well he worked with the cabinetmaker - who did great work, but didn't communicate well. Val also did an excellent job of providing ideas and solving issues that came up. One final note. One of the biggest reasons we went with A to Z was their willingness to work on smaller projects. We just didn't feel that others were as interested. I would definitely recommend him and work with him again.
Description of Work: Val did work on three of our bathrooms: Bath 1: Removed shower door, removed old silicone and regrouted. Bath 2: Demolished old shower, floor tile, removed toilet/sink, replaced once new tile was installed. Installed new backerboard, rubber liner, drain, etc. Expanded shower and tiled. Installed and handled hookup for heated floor. Tiled floor. Moved ceiling fixture, repaired/replastered ceiling. Installed new fixtures. Bath 3: Removed all old tile, tub, vanity, etc. Installed new backerboard, tub, wall tile, floor tile, insert. Installed new vanity, re-installed toilet. Not included in cost: Bathroom 1: shower door, Bathroom 2: shower door/tile/new cabinet/fixtures, Bathroom 3: shower door/tile/vanity/fixtures. Total cost for all tile (carrera marble and travertine) was approximately $2,400.

We received a number of bids for our remodel project, A to Z came in at a very reasonable price and was willing to work around the areas of the remodel that we wanted to do on our own. A to Z started and finished the project on time and kept us informed about the progress along the way. Val at A to Z was instrumental in giving us some great ideas for patterns and placement of the various sized tiles and the positioning of the plumbing fixtures. A to Z kept our house and property clean and protected at all times and all waste was removed at the end of the project. I worked in a business that required commercial remodeling for many years and have had a lot of experience with all types or remodelers. A to Z is at the top of my experiences with professionalism and quality of work. We are remodeling our kitchen next and will look to A to Z to help us.
Description of Work: A to Z provided a quick, accurate and detailed proposal for the tiling and plumbing of our bathroom/shower remodel. A to Z completely demolished and removed the existing bath/shower, flooring and old wall tile. Rerouted the plumbing as needed for our new spa shower. Tiled (natural stone) the new shower area, floor and baseboard/border. A to Z grouted and sealed all the tile and installed and tested the new plumbing fixtures.

Vall did an excellent job in both the demolition and the re-installation. Because some of the original tile was out-of-stock, we had to come up with a soltuion that would work to match new tile to the existing tile. I was very impressed with Val's creativity and the options he provided in what we could do with the new tile we could find. We did not have enough wall tile, but to rebuild the shower curb, he used the left-over floor tile that we had - which actually looks better. Val completed the job in four days- which is what he said he would do and also within the cost of the original estimate. The other thing that I really appreicated was the clean-up that they performed after the demolition and at the end of the job...it was hard to tell that any work had been done becaseu they did such a good job. I just wish I could find other projects for Val to do - he is one of the best repair people I have ever encountered.
Description of Work: We needed to have the floor in our master bath shower replaced which inlcuded stripping it down to the subfloor and starting over. This was for a shower that was only four years old. From the inital consultation, we weren't sure what the problems were under the tile, but once the tile was removed, Val identified the issue and gave us advice on how to avoid it in the fuutre. He re-installed a new shower drain and also was able to save the bench that we had in the shower. We weren't too sure that we could since we didn't know the exact cause of the inital problem. The completed shower actully now looks better from a design standpoint than the original one.

Working with Val was a very good experience. I called him after having seen his high ratings on Angie's list. Val gave us his opinion about the work to be done on our bathtub surround, and an estimate, and we hired him shortly thereafter. We were able to set up an appointment for the work to be done within a couple of weeks, and he and his father completed the work in 2 days (which was much better than another estimate we received which predicted 10-15 days!!). They removed the existing tile and damaged dryboard, installed new waterproof cementboard, and new tile. They even put in a very nice decorative strip of mosaic tiles that I had picked out at a tile store. They grouted everything and sealed all of the edges. They also installed a new medicine cabinet where a previous one had left a hole of a different shape. They did a nice job installing it and patching up the hole in the dryboard. We are very pleased with the work: the finished tile surround above the tub looks great - we've already gotten compliments. Plus, Val came back twice, once to put sealant on the grout, and a second time to install a shower bar (at no extra charge). Overall, he is very professional and easy to communicate with. In fact, we are going to hire him again to do one more tiling job in the bathroom.
Description of Work: The tub surround was entirely re-done. The existing dryboard was removed, waterproof cementboard was installed, and new tile was laid and grouted. Also, Val installed a medicine cabinet in the wall and patched a hole.

Val was punctual for appointments and always called me back promptly. I was a little concerned when he arrived with a teenager, but the kid was in charge of picking up the old tile and throwing it away. The entire job took a day longer than expected because the stones were not square, which made the job much tougher. Val always took his shoes off in my home, cleaned up nicely every day and I even left him alone in my home for two days. He did forget to call to tell me what time to expect him on the last morning, but I'd told him I'd be up at 6AM so I wasn't really surprised when he arrived at 7AM. He sealed my granite counters at the same time he sealed the backsplash, and he even gave me the nearly full bottle of sealer. The end result is beautiful.
Description of Work: Tore down old tile backsplash and replaced with travertine stone with mosaic inlays.

Val was always very prompt about returning my calls, and very good about keeping me informed about how the project was progressing. Although he estimated that the project would take 3 days to complete, it ended up taking 4 1/2 days, mostly because Val was so meticulous about getting everything right, for which I am grateful. Also, we had plaster rather than sheet rock under our tiles, so it was difficult to get the new tiles lined up properly over the uneven plaster. And, it took most of an afternoon for him to get the drain installed properly, because he was working through the basement ceiling where there were many obstacles. Val was careful to lay down drop cloths from our front door to the master bath to minimize the mess, and he was good about cleaning up after himself, both at the end of each workday and at the end of the project. Aleksey (not sure of the spelling), a colleague of Val's, also worked on the project for 2 days, but Val oversaw the project. They were both professional and hard-working. We have 4" x 4" white tiles in our shower stall, again original to our 1959 home, and they were able to make a pretty close match. Val also volunteered to fix a loose step at the top of my stairway, which was above and beyond the call of duty. I would not hesitate to hire them again, or to recommend them to anyone. Our shower stall now looks good, and more importantly, we are able to use it again!
Description of Work: The shower in our master bath leaked into the ceiling of the downstairs bath every time we used it, meaning that the shower liner of our 1959 shower needed to be replaced. Val of "A To Z Tile" tore out the bottom foot of the ceramic tiles in the wall of our shower, as well as the floor tiles. He then re-built the curb, put in new sub-flooring, a drain, and a liner, and replaced the tiles and the shower door.

The job was fairly straightforward, except for the fact that the new construction subfloor and the existing subfloor did not exactly match each other (no fault of Val's). Val was able to match the two floors together close enough that once the tiles were on you could barely see the difference. They flowed into each other very smoothly. The job was completed in 2 days, and he returned the following week to seal the grout. I appreciated that Val was always very easy to get in touch with. I rarely had to leave messages and when I did, he returned my calls within minutes. I was able to get an estimate the same day that I called him, he was flexible with his scheduling, as he had to work around the other construction that was happening. Very nice job all around.

Awesome! Val promptly returned my initial call and came out w/i a few days for an estimate. He quickly measured the areas to be tiled and gave me a detailed stimate on the spot. Since he has a plumber he works with, he was able to include those costs in his estimate. We scheduled the kitchen/entry/bath tiling job first, which was going to cost $4,800 + $2,500 if cement base needed to be removed/replaced (less 10% Angie's discount :)). We hoped the old tile would just pop off, but it didn't, so the job was going to cost the extra $2,500. I had just incurred $10k in vet bills, so Val suggested tiling over the old tile to save the $2,500 and he showed me where I might notice the extra height (entry to L/R & laundry room, but he assured me it would look fine and it absolutely does - I'd never even notice if someone didn't point it out :). I *thought* I wanted a skinny grout line for cleaning purposes, but Val laid out some tiles to show me what it would look like and suggested that the flooring would look like vinyl - and he was right, so we went with the more normal width grout line. He sealed the grout (included) and it has now been five mos and the grout still looks great. The job went well, took one week and the floor looks fabulous and I only wish I had done it sooner. We scheduled the master bath remodel for a week later and it was an amazing transformation. Again, Val had suggestions regarding the trim and how to work around the whirlpool. He removed a couple steps leading to the whirlpool, coordinated with the plumber, etc. The job took one week. Val suggested tile places and we ended up getting tile at The Tile Shop and Val passed along his discount since we were willing to order and pick up the tile, grout, etc. ourselves - a big job, but if you don't mind some lifting and exercise to save some money, I'd highly recommend it. The kitchen tile was a mid-range porcelain tile and was $1,700 after the discount. The ceramic tile/grout for the master bath was $1,900 after discount and included some fancy trims. Val is very responsive and answers his phone when you call or calls you right back. He answers his e-mails. He is very hard working and responsible. I just gave him my garage code and they let themselves in and out each day. He is easy to work with and I'd highly recommend him and his crew.
Description of Work: Installed 390sf 16" ceramic tile in kitchen/entry/bath on diagonal + removed and installed tile in master bath, which included a shower, floor on the diagonal and around a whirlpool tub. Also removed/replaced toilets, dishwasher, base trim, doors, etc. as needed. Removed old shower fixture and replaced with new in master bath shower.

Val gave us a quote over the phone. When we decided to go ahead with the project, he came right out to give us an estimate and to look over the job site. He showed up when he said he would. The final bid was less than the original quote. Because he had an account at the local tile store, we got a 25% discount on the materials. We accepted the bid on a Saturday and he did the work the following Tuesday. He showed up on time, finished the project in one day and left the job site neat and clean. He was professional and courteous and pleasant to do business with. Overall, we are very pleased.
Description of Work: Val installed a kitchen backsplash for us. The job was pretty straight forward: the area was small (90" x 15"), no demolition, no tricky corners, but a few outlets to cut around. We chose a 1 x 6" slate tile mounted on mesh. Val took the time time to take the tile off the mesh and spread it out slightly, so that we wouldn't have a strange looking 1/2" tile on the top or bottom row.

We called Val for an estimate. He came out next morning and gave us a written estimate. Val's big was lower then all other but with this economy we still couldn't afford it. So we asked Val if he could go any lower on the bid cause of our financial problem. Val seemed to be very understanding and gave us another discount. He told us he had some tiles left over from another job and he can use it for our project. He gave us a drawing what it will look like and we went with it. Val came over and worked on the project himself with a helper. He was very picky about the job and kept everything neat and clean. After he was finished we were more then happy how everything looked. He did the rug design without charging us extra for it. He came back in a few days after he was done and installed enhancing sealer over our old slate and new slate to make everything blend in. If it wasn't for Val we would of paid close to $700 just for all materials. We will always use A to Z Tile for all our tiling needs.

The work was okay but it doesn't look as nice as I think it should. It is a little uneven. WE ARE VERY SORRY WE COULDN'T MAKE THE JOB LOOK THE WAY YOU EXPECTED IT. WE TRY HARD TO MAKE SURE ALL CUSTOMERS ARE 100% SATISFIED. IF THERE IS SOMETHING THAT YOU DIDN'T LIKE AND YOU WOULD LIKE US TO COME BACK AND FIX THINGS UP FOR YOU, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CALL US BACK AND WE WOULD BE MORE THEN HAPPY TO COME BACK AN MEET YOUR NEEDS FOR NO CHARGE. ALSO ABOUT THE SEALER WE USUALLY ASK OUR CUSTOMERS IF THEY WOULD LIKE TO SAVE $50.00 AND HAVE US LEAVE THE SEALER FOR THEM SO THEY CAN SEAL THEMSELVES. WHY WE GIVE OUR CUSTOMERS THAT OPTION??? WE KNOW THAT SEALING IS A VERY SIMPLE PROCESS AND ANYONE CAN DO IT AND WE EXPLAIN HOW TO IF THEY HAVE NEVER DONE IT BEFORE. WE THOUGHT WE WERE DOING A BETTER THING BY SAVING YOU $50.00 INSTEAD OF US COMING OUT AND IT WOULD TAKE US NO MORE THEN 10-20 MINUTES TO SEAL AND CHARGE YOU $50 TRIP CHARGE FOR SEALING. ABOUT THE CHIPS IN THE TUB, WE BELIEVE THAT DOING A REGROUT ON THE TILE AROUND THE TUB IS NOT SOMETHING THAT CAN MAKE CHIPS IN THE TUB, WE DO NOT THROW ANYTHING IN THE TUB BESIDES A DROP CLOTH, BUT IF YOU STRONGLY THINK THAT WE HAVE MADE CHIPS IN YOUR TUB PLEASE CALL US AND WE WILL RESURFACE YOUR TUB FOR NO CHARGE.
