Good experience quick visit since actual repair completed under warranty with another company.
Description of Work: Called for refrigerator repair. They determined we still had a warranty on the part that needed repair and were able to direct us to get the refrigerator serviced under the warranty.

The repair guy was right on time and very professional. After he examined my dishwasher, he found that it was the starter knob, and that it would cost $300 to replace (!) so he suggested that I just purchase a new one. The visit was maybe 30 minutes. I just paid for the visit, no labor or parts. I'd definitely use them again, but hopefully not for a while, since I just got a new dishwasher.

Handle on my dishwasher broke. SOS was able to send someone out the day after I called for a repair. The repair person showed up on time and was able to replace the handle the same day, although he did have to leave to get the replacement part. Handle seems to be working fine.

I would like to give them a higher rating, because the service tech was great--prompt, professional and completed repair within a couple hours (which included having to pick up a part). I have to downgrade them on responsiveness, though, because I had to call twice and leave messages before I got a call back to schedule the repair. And then the actual repair could not be scheduled until 4 days after the call. I chose to stick with them due to the Angie's List coupon. Repair service was excellent; customer service could use improvement.

The fridge portion of our 10-year-old Kenmore refrigerator stopped cooling a week ago, so after spending the week deciding whether to fix it or replace it, my husband and I joined Angie's List in order to find a reputable business to repair it. I called SOS Appliance this morning and they scheduled a time window of 4:00 to 6:00 pm today to stop by, so "A" for responsiveness. The company called a little after 5 pm to tell me that the repairman was at the job before mine, but that he would probably be at my house towards the end of the time window and then at 5:45 pm the repairman called to say that he would arrive in about 20 minutes. He did arrive slightly after the time window, hence the "B" or "good" rating, but I understand it's hard to determine how much time jobs earlier in the day will take when scheduling later-in-the-day appointments. He quickly diagnosed the refrigerator's problem as a non-functioning evaporator motor, quoted me a price to repair it, and asked me if I wanted to have the work done right now. Since there was a service call fee if no work was completed, I figured I might as well spend the approximately $240 to fix it now, thereby avoiding the service fee and immediately regaining my fridge space. (I've been using my 22-year-old dorm mini-fridge for the last few days!) The repairman had the fridge working again very quickly, I signed the computer receipt, and off the guy went. After he left, I realized that have have no paper copy of the receipt or any type of work order. Maybe it will be mailed to me? All in all, my experience with SOS Appliance has been excellent.

It took about 5 days for the part to come in from GE and SOS called me as soon as it was ready. The repair was completed quickly and the dishwasher is back up and running. Since this was a rental property, I was able to create an account with SOS, and have my credit card billed without having to actually go to the rental property, which was very nice. Most companies require you to pay on-site. I will use this company again in the future.
Description of Work: GE Monogram dishwasher was not functioning. SOS came out and indicated that the main computer board was fried, due to excessive insulation in the unit. I was quoted $789.95 for the repair. After doing some research, I found that the part was over $600, so the repair price they gave me was very fair.

We called SOS to determine why our dryer was not working properly. The technician was very knowledgeable and determine the dryer would need approximately $200-$250 repair. He was very upfront about the repair and to consider purchasing a new dryer. The technician also looked over our washer for no additional charge. We are just charged the service charge. We were very pleased with SOS's service.

Technician was able to trouble shoot the problem with the microwave. It was a blown fuse. he had to leave to go pick up the correct rating fuse. Technician had trouble with the dishwasher. When I called to setup the repair, I asked if they could fix a Fisher & PayKel drawer dishwasher. It was obvious the technician could not even figure out how to remove the drawer for inspection. He made a call and another gentleman came out to assist. It happened to be the owner which I did not know at the time. He did not even speak or identify himself when he came in. He also had trouble figuring out how to remove the drawer and began taking the dishwasher apart including remove the control panel. Their diagnosis was it was a clog water line from water hardness. When they reassembled the dishwasher, the control panel is no longer operational. By this time, the owner has already left and the technician is trying to say it was already broke. When I tried to reach the owner, the admin claims that the dishwasher control panel was damaged by the "massive" amount of water. The dishwasher was bone dry when the owner came to help fix it. To make a long story short, I was told the owner would not speak with me because he is too busy. Also, the repairs were going to be $489 so I should consider just buying a new one. When I asked to see a detail item list that added up to $489, the admin said they didn't have one. Bottom line, they did not know how to repair the dishwasher, they broke and were dishonest and try to hide in a game of phone tag and talking thru an admin. I would not run my business this way.

Response from SOS Appliance
The customer claims the dishwasher was working before we arrived, but our technicians were never able to get the dishwasher to turn on. There was power to the main board, but they were never able to get the machine to start. Upon removal of the front panel, they found a leaking inlet valve and a tub with rusted holes that was also leaking water, which likely shorted out the electrical control board. The quote given was to replace the tub assembly. The tub assembly is a major part of the appliance and would be a large repair. For this particular appliance, approximately 10 years old and in the condition it was in, we did recommend replacement over repair. The massive water the technicians noted was not in the part of the tub where the dishes go. The water was inside the mechanism of the dishwasher and not visible until the dishwasher was disassembled. This large amount of water is likely what caused the short in the electrical control board. Even though we were never able to get the dishwasher to turn on, we made an offer to the customer to replace the control panel, for no additional charge, if he repaired the rusted tub assembly. We did not want to replace an electrical part without repairing the leak, as the water would just short out the control panel again. The customer did not wish to go ahead with the repair. Neither technician who worked on this appliance was the owner. The general manager, whom the customer wanted to speak with, is out in the field, in customer homes, all day long and, unfortunately, has very limited time to talk with customers on the phone. Our customer service coordinator, whose primary job is customer contact and is readily available during normal business hours, presented this offer to the customer. SOS Appliance works on Fisher & Paykel appliances regularly with no issues. But we are not perfect and, as with just about anything, occasionally we run across an appliance that is more difficult to work on. The first technician did have some questions on this particular appliance, which is why he brought in the GM for a second opinion. We do not feel that having questions about one particular appliance is a fair indication of our knowledge of an entire brand. In addition, in order to attempt to make this customer happy, we did NOT charge him for his microwave repair. To date, this customer has not paid us anything. We at SOS Appliance are truly sorry this customer was unhappy, but feel we made him a fair offer, which was refused.

This was the second time I've had the unit repaired. The experience with SOS was much better than the first repair with a different vendor. The technician from SOS seemed knowledgeable on my specific dish washer, working quickly to resolve the issue. The unit was repaired within a single hour long service call. Scheduling was a bit difficult with a need to reschedule at least once. However the eventual service call was within the window it was scheduled. I would expect the nature of the business would make firm scheduling difficult.

A Panasonic microwave oven that I had for over 20 years had suddenly stopped working. I had SOS make an estimate since I didn't know if parts would be available. I decided to get it repaired because I was used to using this oven and didn't want to change. Also, I figured this would be environmentally friendly since I wouldn't be disposing of this applicance and saving energy to make new one. The repair was completed in a few days. I saved some time and money by taking the unit to Long Lake office instead of having it picked up. Office was not the most convenient (on 2nd floor via steps) and not easy to find. The unit was repaired and now is in good working order.

I called on a Thursday morning and she offered me a two hour time frame on the next afternoon. As it happens this was the perfect time for me. Sam called about 20 minutes before he got here, and when he arrived he removed his shoes and apologized for being a few minutes late. He analyzed the problem with the oven and explained it clearly. He told me exactly what the charge would be, went to the truck, returned with the proper part, installed it and tested the oven. Sam was neat, friendly, professional and seemed to enjoy his work. The fact that they offer a $20.00 off coupon for Angie's List members was an added bonus. I was very happy with how it went. I will certainly call SOS again!

They came out to look at my broken dishwasher, which had no power at all. The technician diagnosed a faulty switch and repaired it in about 30 minutes. I called them and they were available for an appointment window the next day. The window was convenient, 6-9pm I think. The technician came and reviewed the problem, but did not have a part immediately available to complete the job. He gave a fixed quote and offered to come back the next evening to fix the problem. I accepted the quote, and he returned the next evening and fixed the problem as expected. After he had fixed the dishwasher, I also asked him about the noise level. He went back in, and cleaned out an area where some plastic and ceramic had become trapped. This did not fix the noise problem (it may have helped), but I appreciated the effort and it did not cost me anything extra.

Called him he arrived as scheduled same day. arrived spoke with my wife and gave a quote of $239.95. it took him 45m including the part(5303935067) Frigidaire ignitor. (cost on google shopping ranges from $30-40 dollars retail). His labor for 45 minutes was therefore $225/hour a bit steep. Fair pricing is better business, as you will get repeat business which will ultimately make up more than half of your total business. Price gouging will get this comapny nowhere fast.

Response from SOS Appliance
We at S.O.S. Appliance are sorry this customer is not happy with the service he was provided. Like all of our customers, he was presented with a written, flat-rate estimate before any work was completed. If he felt the cost was too high, he was able to decline the repair at this point. We encourage our customers to ask questions about these estimates, prior to any work being performed, and want them to know and feel comfortable with what is included. We use this flat-rate system, not an hourly rate, so our customers know exactly what they will be paying up-front, with no unwelcome surprises after the repair is compete. With a flat-rate system, the fee for a specific repair remains the same, no matter the experience level of the technician performing the service. A customer should not be penalized if a technician is not as skilled and/or slower at completing a job. And a technician should not be penalized for being good at his job, and able to get the same job completed more quickly. The technician who completed this particular repair has more than 17 years experience in the industry, including extensive classroom and on-the-job training. This job was completed the same day the customer called. While it is possible the customer would have been able to order the part at a cheaper price through Google Shopping, his part would have taken 3-5 days to ship and the customer would have been without the use of his appliance that entire time. In addition, S.O.S. Appliance warranties all parts purchased and installed through us for one year. We feel this customer was charged a fair rate for what he received: same day service, same day completion -- which means very little down-time on the appliance, a one-year warranty on the part, and an extremely knowledgeable technician.

Based upon the email conversation, it was easy to determine that the repair is probably not cost-effective based upon the age of the freezer and difficulty to get parts. I wanted to submit a report as Chad was very responsive and informative. I get the impression that he respects that everybody's time is valuable and was willing to ask/answer questions rather than insist on coming out for a service call (time/$). I would not hesitate to contact Chad again for another repair need.
