The owner answered his cell phone immediately when called and/or returned our phone calls punctually. He was accommodating with his schedule, and worked to fit our job in sooner than previously estimated, offered suggestions on design, and took pride in his experience and his crew's work.

It went fabulously. Lowell was wonderful to meet with, as I interviewed 5 contractors. He exhibited a deep knowledge of concrete and what was needed in my garage. His bid was also the most reasonable of all of them. He, his son and their crew performed their work with professionalism and cleanliness. They were very easy to work with, and accessible, even after the job when I had a few questions. I would highly recommend Lowell Russell concrete to everyone, as well as Angie's outstanding Award.

We contacted Lowell because of his great ratings on Angie's List and we found out that they are well deserved. Lowell is great guy to work with. Lowell came out to meet with us, get an understanding of the project, ask questions, offer his insight and provide us with a bid. We decided that we were going to use Lowell without even getting another bid. Lowell's team does fantastic work and whole neighborhood was watching this project unfold. The work was done in a timely fashion and the quality of work is top shelf. All of the neighbors & walkers comment on how nice the driveway and walk look. If you are thinking about stamped concrete for a walkway, patio or driveway, you need to talk to Lowell. You will not be disappointed.
Description of Work: Lowell Russell Concrete was hired to provide a stamped concrete front step and walk, along with a new 20' x 40' concrete driveway with stamped edges along the drive. In addition, they poured a stamped concrete fire pit/patio in the backyard.

They did a great job. The owner has an engineering degree in concrete, offered suggestions about design and color and was in constant contact regarding the project from start to finish. I highly recommend Lowell Russell Concrete. Pricing was actually better than some of the competition.

We had talked to Lowell late this Spring about pouring a stamped patio, but we weren't ready until just recently. Once we were finally ready we worked with Lowell on the design (shape, color and pattern). They started the very next day and had it all done in less then 5 days. It wasn't easy to get to our back yard, but they did a great job and we are very happy.

Lowell and his guys did an AMAZING job on our big project. Lowell was our #1 choice for the job after seeing some of his work in the neighborhood (he stamps his name in the concrete because he is proud of his work and stands by it...who else does that?!), talking with him at the Home and Garden Show and ultimately meeting him. We decided not to allow our contractor to do this work because quite frankly her concrete guy had screwed up too much already. Lowell swooped in and answered all of our questions with confidence and knowledge. His guys worked hard AS A TEAM!! and hustled! There was never anyone standing around or walking; they helped each other and worked quickly but did a great job and were very kind to each other and myself. I cannot count the number of compliments we have gotten on our concrete work that Lowell did and we are very proud of it and continue to give him props for an outstanding job! Yes it is expensive but I would rather spend the money to have it done RIGHT and look GREAT than done cheap and have to replace it frequently.

When interviewing contractors Lowell was the only one who understood exactly what we were looking for and figured out the best and most economical way to achieve it. The project started in the time frame that was given to us when the estimate was accepted. There was a full crew that showed up on time and worked like a well oiled machine. The project needed several pourings so that the concrete could be controlled and the quality remain consistent. The entire project took three days. There was one rainy day, and we were informed that the crew would not be out and also informed when they would be back to continue. This was a hard working, seasoned crew that worked smoothly together. After each day they cleaned up after themselves and secured the site. We were thoroughly pleased with the project and the service provided. We would highly recommend using Lowell Russell concrete Inc. for any concrete needs.

Very well. I was pleased with the meeting and details behind the quote provided by Lowell. I ended up choosing another contractor with the intent of saving some $$. Lowell was our close 2nd choice and it was a tough decision to go with the other provider.
Description of Work: Lowell responded in a timely manner. Showed up on time for an appointment for examining site work and provide quote for the work. He made good design suggestions. Left a quote with me at the end of the appointment.

my price was more expensive, but what was the thickness of my competitors concrete, how much base was used, was it a class 5 rating, was integral liquid color used, was it antiqued, did it have acid staining, was there 2 coats of sealer, did the sealer have 33% solids in it, was it high u.v. stable, what will be the quality of the workmanship, what will it look like in 10 years, i received a b. rating for being more expensive, we are the best, we will never lesson our quality

I must start by saying that I ran across a lot of flakey concrete people on Angie's List: no shows for estimates, voice mail full so you couldn't leave messages. Lowell Russell was very professional with a binder full of pictures & letters from happy customers. He has a tendency to talk a lot, but don't let that chase you off. His guy & his crew really know what they are doing. They do a beautiful job & keep you posted on the progress. Every time I come home & see that driveway I feel bad that I never left a review until now.
Description of Work: My constantly cracking asphalt driveway was removed & a larger, beautiful concrete one replaced it. The concrete apron into the garage was cracked & pulverized & big holes appeared. They cut the bad part out & put in new concrete. A patio replaced the nasty rocks outside the back yard door.

We tore the deck down to ground level. Rain was a factor. The crew came in as soon as they could to clear additional debris. The framed . Small change in frame that was accommodated for immediately. Rain again waited for a decent day. They poured a single color a stamped color patio and dusted additional color. They scored after initial cure.
Description of Work: As previously stated, Lowell is professional, prompt and committed to meeting customer needs. We had contacted several contractors and while he was not the least expensive, he substantiated what he was talking about with the many accolades he's received along with endless pictorials supporting his history of work. He has an extensive knowledge of the materials and process used in conjunction with the impact of working in Minnesota's colder climate. He was committed to working with us to achieve what we wanted. I've waited to write the review until after the patio had been exposed to the winter elements. The job was completed in July 2012 and I'm more than pleased with how the patio endured over the winter months. A quick powerwash and it looks brand new. I cant believe the number of neighbors who have provided positive feedback on the aesthetics of the final product. A few neighbors have decided to do something similar and I've provided them with Lowell's contact info. We'll definitely becontacting him to do the sealant coating.

Front walk is great, and his suggestion to curve the walk was a good one. The experience while they were doing the work was a positive one. After driveway was done I found that it has a spot where rainwater pools by the foundation of the house. I called very soon after driveway was done to ask about this problem. He said that he had come out (when I was not home) and seen it and that water did not pool on the driveway. I asked him to come out and meet me so that I could show him. (He said this was not necessary because he had already been out and insisted there was no problem.) He would not agree to any further follow up. I had another business that does cement driveways come out and look. They could immediately see the issue. They said it would cost over $1000 to fix and suggested that I use sandbags in that spot. I have now been using sandbags for years as water pools after every rain and when snow is melting. Guiding water away from the foundation of the house was a major reason we decided to redo the driveway and we had made this clear before the work was started.

Around July we started to bid out putting a patio in our backyard. We contacted 1 other concrete company and 1 landscaping company for a paver patio. All companies were found here on Angie's List. We do like the look of the stamped concrete over the paver and as a bonus both Concrete bids were cheaper then the paver patio. We decided to go with Lowell due to his time in the business, knowledge, and accolades. Although, Lowell was more expensive then the other concrete company we felt the added expense was worth it for the reasons mentioned above. Lowell told us he was about 6 weeks out from accepting the bid and starting the work. So, that put us around the middle of August to start our patio. He and his crew came out on Tue August 22nd and finished the following week due to some weather concerns. Although I had to work through the time the crew was pouring the concrete. I did get to speak with Matt when he came out to stain and seal the patio. He was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. Overall, we are very pleased with our patio. It looks fantastic and I feel it was built correctly to last a long time. We have had numerous neighbors say how much the love the look of it. I would highly recommend Lowell for your stamped concrete needs.

Lowell Russell is a concrete engineer with several decades of experience and a dedication to excellence. He returned my initial call promptly and came out for an estimate within two days. He made several suggestions to improve the project. He explained what materials would be used and how the work would be done (including the proposed route on the property that the bobcat would take). I received a detailed bid at the end of his visit to the property. The work was scheduled for about three weeks later. As with any old property, the project ran into several unforeseen problems, but Lowell took them all in stride. He understood what needed to be done to ensure the structural integrity of all of the repairs and upgrades that were needed and kept me apprised of all proposed changes. He worked with his crew and personally oversaw all of the work through the stamping process. In addition to meticulous attention to detail, Lowell has an eye for artistic design and proportion. At one point, he proposed extending the curvature of the patio to make it more esthetically pleasing, and although this involved more material and work, he did not increase the cost of the project. All of the work was completed to the highest professional standards, without shortcuts, and the finished product combines great functionality and beauty.
Description of Work: Lowell Russell Concrete prepared, poured, stamped, stained, and sealed a two decorative sidewalks and two patios. Very extensive preparation work included removing many layers of previous brick and concrete patios as well as filling in two window wells and constructing a concrete wall to an old well room as well as bringing in material to form the base for the new patios. All of the work was completed within four days by Lowell and the rest of his industrious, painstaking crew. The final product is not only stunning, but prevents water from eroding the foundation of the house.

Lowell is very prompt and his crew showed up at 7am! Lowell has many years of experience in the concrete business and it shows. I was surprised to see him on the job site and when he wasn't there his foreman (son) was available to ask questions and clarify. My patio is the talk of my neighborhood and the grading now takes all water away from my house. In the next couple of years I plan to have him back to do my garage floor. His prices are a little higher, but you do get what you pay for and his work is well worth price.

Talked to several contractors about cement replacement. Liked the look of stamped concrete for part of the job. Lowell stood out as having a great deal of experience with stamped concrete, had a flair for design and was reasonably price. Lowell is a salesman (albeit very knowledgeable) and it was difficult to nail down all the details of the project in writing before the start as he called the day before he wanted to begin the job and some details were not finalized until the night before. The crew was very efficient and knew what they were doing. Overall pleased with the job and the final bill was a little higher than estimated to do to some changes from the initial estimate months prior. Overall a fair price. Would recommend based on expertise, design capabilities, and fair price.
Description of Work: Driveway and sidewalk tear out and replacement. Replaced with stamped concrete sidewalk and plain concrete driveway. Also did a stamped concrete overlay of the exposed aggregate front stoop with stamped concrete. Regraded and installed pvc tubes to handle gutter run off underground into yard.

Lowell came out last fall and gave us a bid to redo our crumbling front steps. Something came up and we weren't able to do the project until this spring. I called Lowell and he honored the bid he had given us last fall. It took a week before they could actually get started due to a lot of rain, but once they started they got the project done in a day! We actually changed the dimensions from the previous steps and Lowell did exactly what we wanted. They had to come back twice; once to drill holes and install the cast iron railing and a second time to put a sealer on the steps after a week. They look fantastic and we're very happy. Something additional that I thought was pretty cool is that I called Lowell about a month after the steps project was done to ask him an unrelated question about our back yard (cement floor) screen porch. There was no work involved and Lowell wasn't going to make any money by taking my call, but he took time out of his day to discuss my issue and answer my questions about the screen porch cement. Very cool! That's what I call customer service. I'd definitely call Lowell again if I had any concrete projects.

Lowell met me for an estimate in late April to discuss pouring a new walkway from a deck I was planning to build. At the time he recommended a stamped concrete patio, showed me some pictures, and sold me on the benefits. I could tell at that time that the Lowell Russel product was by far superior to other concrete stampers I had met with. Lowell gave me two estimates, one for just the walkway as I had originally planned, and another for the patio plus the walkway. After crunching the numbers I decided to go with the patio + walkway and immediately scheduled a time because Lowell was booked two months out. Lowell called in mid June to lock down the start date. His guys came out about a week later and began work. The whole process took about a week. The first day they did demo and put in the forms. Rain kept them offsite for a couple of days, and then they poured the concrete, stamped, and applied a top level black powdery stain. They then covered the entire patio with painters plastic to protect the concrete and help it cure. They stayed away for one more day while the concrete cured and the stain took. Finally. Matt showed up to finish the job. He removed the plastic, got rid of all of the black dust which exposed the beautiful product underneath!! He then cut the concrete, did custom surface level staining to add interest and color variation to the pattern and then put on two coats of sealant. Really, everyone I worked with was great. Lowell was professional and consultative, his son Lee was open to explaining things to me during the process, and Matt who finished the job was a true artist. The whole crew did a great job keeping the site clean. I couldn't be happier with the finished product. My neighbors love it too. In terms of price. If you want quality you have to pay for it, and the length of time it took to get them onsite was well worth it. They are booked solid for a reason. Hands down the best in the business.

We are remodelling our entire basement and adding hydro-radiant heat. We decided to have a decorative concrete floor in lieu of tile. Lowell first gave us a description of all the possible options for decorative concrete and how they differ in cost and appearance. He had a very large photo album of previous work he showed us on his touchpad. He then gave us several days to consider what we wanted. We decided on grey colored concrete with grid cuts for a result that would look like a tiled floor. His crew arrived, laid a wire fiber mesh for reinforcing on top of the radiant heat tubes and poured 3 inches of 45,000 PSI colored concrete. After hardening they applied 2 coats of sealant. A week later his team returned and snaped a grid with chalk on the floor. After consulting with us and making some changes they made cuts and filled them with grout. A few days later they returned and add a few more cuts that we wanted, cleaned and double checked the grout before applying a final coat of sealant. We only had one issue. We had told our plumber many times that we would not be using an insert for our shower and planned to use the concrete as the floor for the shower. However, the plumber built a box around the drain, so Lowell's crew assumed we had changed our minds and were going to use an insert without double checking with us. Since we are not using a general contractor, the only real person to blame was ourselves. Never-the-less, Lowell gave us a discount on the cuts to ensure goodwill. I found Lowell to be very professional and passionate about his business. I would definitely recommend his company for any concrete work.
