Everything went fine until the ceilings in bathroom and bedroom. A "flattened stucco" style was recommended. I told him we hated our existing "popcorn" ceilings and I was told this would not be like that. We did not like the outcome and contractor agreed to smooth out the ceiling in the bathroom and "brush coat" the ceiling in the bedroom (for an additional charge). The ceiling in the bedroom turned out fine but the bathroom ceiling was far from smooth. This was not discovered until contractor was paid and left. Contractor left behind a 5 gallon bucket of cleaner believed to be paint thinner. Pail was left uncovered and not discovered until the following week when the tilers left after working that day. During that weekend I became very sick with a terrible headache. Tilers were also sickened during their first day. I discovered another problem in that the drywall guys covered an electrical outlet. I contacted Mr. Bridges and told him the problem with the ceiling, the thinner and the outlet. He said he would try to make it out the following Thursday (December 4th). Thursday came and when I contacted him again he left a message saying he would try to get out on Tuesday (December 9th). I called him many times since then and he has never returned my call. Because I can not get this job done I am unable to finish the electrical and flooring. It has delayed completion of this project a whole month.
Description of Work: Hung, taped 43 sheets of sheet rock in basement. 3 rooms. 2nd and 3rd coats. Primed rock. Skim coated ceilings and put brush coat on bedroom ceiling.

Response from Randy Bridges Drywall & Painting Service
I was contracted to hang, tape and texture their basement. I confirmed again they wanted knock-down finish prior to texturing. I completed texturing their ceilings on Friday and received a call the next day to indicate his wife did not like the look of the texture and wanted to discuss options. I agreed to skim coat the ceilings to a smooth finish for an additional charge, half my normal hourly rate as it was not a workmanship issue. I had finished two skim coats on the bedroom and one on the bathroom when [member name removed] saw the bathroom ceiling and indicated she preferred the ceiling as it was (with one coat). I questioned if she wanted me to finish it as I had the bedroom ceiling and she said no, so I finished painting the walls and ceilings as directed. I completed the job and was paid in full on 11/26. I was contacted approximately five days later regarding a question about the sheetrock in the shower area for the tile installer, a missed electrical outlet and the “pail of mineral spirits”, with no mention of dissatisfaction regarding the bathroom ceiling at that time. I indicated I could come back Friday morning but was told I couldn’t return until the following Tuesday because the tile was still being installed. I had already started another job that Friday and had been working through the weekend as I was on a very short timeline. I indicated that I would try to stop back on Tuesday but was not certain I’d be available. The items being addressed would not have delayed completion of the other work being performed at that time. It was not until another week later that Dave indicated they were unhappy with the outcome of the bathroom ceiling but the bedroom ceiling was fine. I understand it was an inconvenience for them to be without their secondary bathroom. I received many calls from [member name removed] and returned his call three separate times indicating I could not return within his desired timeframe as I was working on a large project for a family who were living out of one tiny room while their entire house was under construction with no kitchen or bathroom. I also contacted him when I was finished with the other job to schedule a return visit and have not received a return call from him. I then received this letter from Angie’s List to resolve his complaint so I will attempt to address with you. In response to my professionalism and responsiveness, I do not, out of courtesy to my customers, carry my cell phone on the jobsite (it remains in my vehicle for emergencies) so calling me several times within a couple of hours does not constitute me not returning his calls. I was working long days to complete another customer’s project and returning home late in the evening. I received over 20 calls from him over the course of a few days that became progressively unprofessional as he assumed I was ignoring him. I’d even been told I would be “receiving a lump of coal from Santa” for not instantly responding to him. I left voice mails in the evenings when I returned home. It may be old fashioned that I am not constantly “connected” and immediately available to answer telephone calls as I respect my customer’s time while I am on their jobsite and do not take calls. As a small, sole proprietor in business for over 30 years it is one thing I am not willing to compromise. In response to the quality of my work, it was not my workmanship that was in question but the fact that they did not like the look of the original knock down texture or the redone bathroom ceiling. The only error in judgment and my quality standards was that I did not insist I be allowed to put two coats of mud on the ceiling in the bathroom and restore it to a smooth finish as I had done in the bedroom. I was being paid by the hour at that point and was directed to leave the ceiling in the bathroom as it was with one coat because she “liked that look.” This is now the ceiling in question that is “pitted” according to the customer.
