The owner Ryan Wells told us the project would take two weeks. Eight weeks in he didn't even have the outside walls done. He represented himself as a licensed contractor when he was not. He did not pull any of the required permits. He nailed the new wall studs directly into the existing siding and sprayed in foam to cover the cracks. He poured concrete against existing deck footings, poured a concrete floor that does not connect to the house, glued down tiles that are crooked, and disconnected our sprinkler system, pulling the pipes out of the ground so we haven't been able to use it all summer. He seldom showed up and when he did it was almost never before noon. He took our money - a $10,000 deposit and then another $1,700 which he said he needed to buy the cellar door. He told us several times the cellar door was ordered from Menards and he just needed to pick it up. He committed to deliver the door and chiller to us but was then never seen again. Checking with Menards he is listed there under several business names: Ryan Wells Woodworking, Ryan Wells Workshop, Ryan Wells, and Ryan Wells 39. They have no record that our door was ever ordered. We have since had construction firms come and inspect the damage to get estimates on the project. Everything he did has to be torn out, permits need to be applied for, and then the project needs to be started over completely from scratch. Nothing he did is up to code or usable. He has an F rating with the Better Business Bureau. The only reason I didn't file a report with them is that they do not take reports for crimes and where litigation is involved.
Description of Work: He was hired to build a 1000-bottle wine cellar as an addition on to our home.
