You could not have asked for anything more. From the moment I got my quote, I realized I was dealing with an honest and fair company. I never felt pressured, nor did I feel I was getting anything but a fair deal. The crew showed up bright and early, and worked till the project was complete - just around four hours, which was remarkable in my opinion, given they had to remove the old steps. The quality is nothing less than top notch, and even extended the footings for good measure. They ensured my plants were out of the way, and undisturbed, cleaning the entire area as if they had not been there. I would highly recommend Letendre Concrete & Design to anyone. I had received five quotes total, three before, and one after, before going with Letendre.

Generally a good job , but the seams of the border pavers were not filled in with sand. However, the design was good. It looks nice and the contractor designed it so water is not a problem.

This has taken me embarrassing long to write this review and for that I apologize. I had bought an outdoor fireplace and need a patio done ASAP. They came out right away and went out of their way to sneak my project in. They went way up and beyond the call of duty on this one. It still looks great!

My interaction with Shawn was good; he answered my questions and provided a thorough proposal for the work. Two things went against this company in choosing the contractor. First it took them quite a while to get back to me on my initial request for a bid (about 6 days) - this was minor, but was part of our consideration. The bigger issue was the bid. Their bid came in nearly $5,000 higher than the other 4 bids for the same work! By our calculations hey were charging approximately $22-23 per sq foot for the work. The going rate in the area for stamped concrete in the Twin Cities is $12-16 per sq foot. So I can only assume that they really just didn't want our project. I wish they would just turn down the job, rather than give us an outrageous bid - to me, that's just bad customer service and not very honest. I would not recommend them to friends and family.
Description of Work: Provided an estimate for a stamped concrete patio and sidewalk in backyard. Approximate size of the area 585 sq feet. Did not hire them to do the work.

Response from Letendre Concrete & Design INC
I apologize that we did not get back to you sooner as we were on a business trip and unable to schedule proposal meetings at that time. As far as the proposal that we sent you we bid accordingly for a job of your size due to the amount of work, time and effort myself and my crew would put into it. Had I not wanted to put a proposal in on your project I would not have wasted your time nor mine setting up an appointment. I wish you the best on your project.

After getting a number of bids earlier, we had been putting off this project for over two years because of the cost involved and not comfortable with the contractors that came out to give us bids. We were considering possibly selling our property this spring finally decided that it was time and we had to get the project completed. I received three bids from contractors that had looked at the job. Shawn was one of the contractors whom we obtained a bid. From the time that he arrived to look at the project, take measurements and pictures to work up a bid for us it was obvious that he was very detailed oriented and was interested in doing a good job. He was very knowledgeable about concrete and explained different ways to accomplish what we were looking to do. For example we have a patio inside the radius of the sidewalk between the front entrance and driveway. He gave us ideas as how to define the sidewalk from the patio. He gave us prices on each option and showed us pictures of how each option would look after completion. Another example of the type of person he is and the quality of work he does was when he bid the job we had intended to add a three foot strip of concrete on the side of our driveway to make it a little wider for ease of getting in and out of the vehicle in winter when there was banks of snow along the edge of the driveway. After the garage floor and front step had been removed and the project was underway and while looking at the condition of the existing driveway, my wife and I decided we wanted to replace the total driveway. Even while in the middle of the project and under a time frame to get to his next project he gave us a very fair price for the extra work. I believe most contractors would have taken advantage of the situation and given a very expensive bid for the additional work. Shawn looked at the situation was obvious he was concerned about us being satisfied with the finished product. He and his workers were very courteous and knowledgeable about what needed to be done to assure the project was completed exactly as he described when we received the bid from him. My wife and I are both very pleased with the work he did for us and would highly recommend him to anyone looking to have any concrete work done at their home.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced eight foot portion of garage floor adjacent to garage door, concrete driveway, sidewalk from driveway to front entrance, front steps and paver patio in front of house. He stamped and bordered new concrete patio and also added three and a half foot extension to one side of the driveway.

Our experience with this company was great from start to finish. Shawn's bid was comparable to other bids received. He had a 'can do' attitude about our work requests and was reasonable with expectations of work for us to do prior to job start. His explanations of job options were clear. His crew was polite and timely. Communication was open during job duration and project started and ended as promised. Completed garage looks great! Shawn's wife Crystal mans the office and phone and does a really good job. Calls were promptly answered, paperwork was efficiently managed, and she knew exactly what was going on!

Thank you for being so straightforward with me and not requiring me to set up an appointment and try to sell me services that I do not want or need.
Description of Work: I need some repair work done on sidewalk and garage floor. Did a search this contractor was the first on the list and had excellent reviews. I contacted Mr. Letendre and he was very responsive to my email. He politely told me that he did not perform the type of repairs that I was looking for. The job went okay, albeit they delayed the planned start since they didn’t get the underground utilities marked. The real issues started showing up after about six months. 5 or 6 thin cracks developed across the entire garage floor from side to side and front to back. When I called the contractor, Shawn Letendre, to describe the problems he came over to see for himself. Upon his inspection, he stated that some thin cracks were “normal” and he offered no help or suggestions. I disagreed, thinking there should be no cracks in a brand new concrete floor that was done properly. Last summer, when the floor was only two years old, I discussed the cracks with a concrete engineer. He suggested sealing the cracks. I personally ground out the concrete surface along the cracks and installed epoxy sealant. It did a good job to properly seal the floor, but the cracks are more visually pronounced. Now there is a new problem. After only 2 ½ years from installation, the surface of the concrete near the door and in the apron is developing significant “pop-outs”. So now the surface is starting to deteriorate and look bad too. We selected this contractor based on a great AngiesList ranking. We no longer agree with that high ranking.
Description of Work: Letendre removed the existing two-car concrete garage floor and a portion of the asphalt driveway apron. They poured a new concrete floor in the garage and a concrete apron in front of the garage.

Simply put: Letendre Concrete and Design restored my faith in contractors. They came out quickly, they did very competent work, and while they were not the very cheapest bid we got, they were well below most of their competitors (We called roughly a dozen different companies). When they were finishing up I told them how astounded I was at their promptness and work ethic, especially for being a small crew. They said it's just what they do for every job. There are a lot of different companies here on Angie's List that get A ratings and it's sometimes tough to choose between them. At least from my experience, Letendre deserves to be in it's own class. I can't recommend them enough.

I called Letendre Concrete to receive an estimate. I was called back immediately and an appointment was scheduled within 24 hours. Shawn Letendre stopped by and we discussed the front stoop replacement. I can read people really well, and knew instantly that he was a professional and honest person. Our front stoop was deteriorating at a rapid rate after the 2013 June storm. I asked for an estimate on front stoop, but also for recommendations. Shawn gave me his recommendations and an approximate estimate right then and there. He broke down all of the costs. He told me he was adding in the cost of footings, but wouldn't know if I'd need them until he started the work. He said he didn't want me to receive any surprises, which I appreciated. He said he'd follow-up with an official estimate. I received the estimate via email within 2 days. I received the estimate and it was spot-on with what we had discussed. I called 2 other concrete companies for bids, but no one would call me back. I did receive estimates right after the storm from no less than 3 concrete companies, so I can honestly say that Letendre beat the others in price. We set a convenient work date. They showed up at 7am and started immediately. I had the opportunity to speak to a few of the crew, and all were just like Shawn - honest, personable and professional. He has a great crew. The job took 2 days, which is what I was told. IT LOOKS GREAT!! Drive by for a look, 4221 29th Ave S, Mpls. I had my front stoop with 4 risers replaced, a small patio next to it, the sidewalk leading to the front and a small section in the backyard. Shawn told me that I had some footings so my cost was reduced a bit. I wouldn't have known either way, but he was honest and told me at the end. I would highly recommend this company for all of your concrete needs. I will use them should I need any concrete work in the future. Thanks Letendre Concrete!

They called a day earlier than expected to start work which was great for us. They had most of the work done by late afternoon even with a change of plans that they proposed which saved me a lot of trouble. Once the concrete was dried they power washed the steps and similar concrete areas around the house. The following day they seal coated all the clean areas. A few days later they came back again and restored the area as close to the original as possible by bringing in fresh dirt. The group were all friendly, professional, and very careful not to disturb the surroundings while working. I would nominate them as a Star service.

I am very pleased with the walkway and stairs. This was a huge job. Shawn and his crew had to take out the crumbling stairs and walk. They then had to dig major holes to put the foundation in. They put the molds in and then poured the concrete. The crew was very professional and they worked very hard. At the beginning, I was concerned at the cost but when I saw the amount of work that they did, they earned that money!!! I am now receiving many complements from my neighbors. Shawn and his crew did a beautiful job.

Shawn went above and beyond for us, and the work came out even better than we could have imagined. He came out within a few days of my call to assess the project and sent a proposal the next day. Crystal kept in touch to let us know exactly when the work would start. Shawn answered all our questions and went over the details with us before starting. After the work got underway, he checked with us to make sure everything looked the way we wanted. The worksite was left neat and clean every night and on completion of the job. The pricing was more than fair. We are very pleased with the result and would definitely hire Letendre C&D again!

Besides a standard 'apron' deal I had a custom, specific and tricky job for a cracked concrete floor in a pool shed. Shawn showed up right on time and provided a reasonable estimate of the custom work, while confirming the apron deal price. He said he would try to squeeze my project into the following week, but could not garantee it. They ended up completing on the second week on a two days advance notice. Communication with Shawn was prompt and clear all the time. The crew was prompt on the scheduled day, even 10 minutes before 7 am, without bothering us. The apron started first, with the repair floor following. At 9:20 a cement truck arrived and they started pouring concrete into apron. Although concrete repair job required manual work in the confined space, three of them did it skillfully and promptly. They put rebar armature into the repaired aread and poured concrete mix into that area by buckets, while the apron area was hardening. At the end they put finishing touches on both apron and the new floor and left minutes before noon. They even hauled off some of my sand from the old filter. Aestetically the result was quite pleasing in both areas. Kudos to Shawn, Brian and the crew for their qulity work, flexibility and promptness. Did I forget to mention their positive attitude? ;)

I did a ton of research on basement slabs, and out of the 4 contractors I interviewed, Shawn was the only one who had all the right answers. During our conversations it became clear why. Shawn grew up in the industry and instead of being comfortable with how things were done he attends seminars, tradeshows and continuing education courses to further polish is trade. I always say give credit where credit is due, you won't go wrong here!

Our last contact of 09/29/2014 was a certified letter my wife and father dropped off at Mr. Letendre's house in person, the original hadn't been picked up from the post office. The last work done on our home was when the curing blankets were removed from our steps on 10/25/2013. The last concrete placed by Letendre Concrete and Design was on 10/18/2013. We have been trying to reach an agreement regarding the issues with our concrete work for just under a year. As of this point in time Mr. Letendre is not responding to our letters so we are sending this to Angie's List Complaint Resolution Process. We hired Letendre Concrete to install exterior concrete work as part of an addition to our home to house my elderly parents. We have been trying to reach an agreement with the contractor for a year now due to issues with their work that are as yet unresolved. Our contractor attempted to install nearly 2400 sq. ft. of concrete in one day. The trucks were left on hold and didn?t arrive which Mr. Letendre has admitted to, half our driveway was finished in the dark using headlamps for light. The result is damaged and poor work that doesn?t match what was contracted for. Our steps hold water so badly they have been unusable, our patio is not pitched the way we asked for. It?s hard to believe so much can be wrong, please look at the pictures and make your own opinions. Our driveway disintegrated and cracked in several places last winter, our steps are so badly formed they were not usable last winter at all. Initially we were told by Mr. Letendre to go ahead and have our retaining wall put in and the concrete work would then be replaced in full with the wall in. Later after asking for this in writing, it was discovered this was not true and our landscaper had to take away our blocks and it is still on hold. We have tried to negotiate with Mr. Letendre but he has been extremely evasive and what amounts to in our opinion as `smoke and mirrors`. We previously met at our home and reviewed all the issues with the work in person and reached an agreement that Letendre Concrete would replace the driveway in full to match what was originally specified in our contract. In exchange for this we would take responsibility for all other issues. This still required us to pay Mr. Letendre `in full` despite leaving us with significant repair work that we were willing to accept so we could move on with our lives. Mr. Letendre then decided to go back on the agreement he made and refuses to stand by the issues with his work. We have found our driveway to be only 3.5" thick in large areas, when we contracted for a 5" thick driveway. It does not have the pitch we requested when the job was bid and is missing an apron that was on the specifications my wife and I created for the job. Mr. Letendre has since denied receiving the specifications so he can't be held accountable to the guarantee in his contract that his work will match. My wife and I have a different opinion of events and what has happened here but there is still enough in that the work does not match our contract. Despite the work not being completed, Mr. Letendre has continued to ask for additional payment even though our contract called for 50% upon contract signing and 50% upon project completion. We asked Mr. Letendre to put something in writing to have confirmation of what will be done to fix the issues before we could ever agree to pay anything additional but we couldn?t get Mr. Letendre to commit in writing to what he verbally agreed to do. At one point Mr. Letendre offered a $1000 discount to accept the work as-is. However, we weren?t going to spend $17,500 to get a sub-par result. When Mr. Letendre finally did put details of the work he would do to fix the issues in writing, it also included a final payment before the work was done and it didn?t match what we had verbally agreed to. After numerous emails and meetings at our house throughout the spring, on May 18, 2014, we finally reached a mutually agreeable resolution with Mr. Letendre. We weren?t addressing all of the workmanship issues by Mr. Letendre and his crew but Mr. Letendre had agreed to replace the driveway in full. However, despite our agreement, we received an email from Mr. Letendre on May 23, 2014, that he would no longer be working with us and we were free to work with another contractor to finish the project. On June 5, 2014, my wife happened to be home from work and saw Mr. Letendre standing at the end of our driveway with another man. My wife and father went outside to talk with Mr. Letendre. The man was Mr. Letendre?s sales rep from Aggregate Industries. When my wife asked Mr. Letendre why he was at our house since he already said he was no longer working with us, he said he was filing a warranty claim on our concrete with the manufacturer. My wife asked Mr. Letendre if that meant he was still working with us, Mr. Letendre said he would still work with us to resolve the issues but would have to wait for Aggregate?s report to come back before he could do anything. I emailed Mr. Letendre to confirm he was still going to work with us to resolve the issues. Mr. Letendre replied on June 6, 2014, stating that wasn?t what was discussed and we were free to work with other contractors to finish the project. Once again, we had conflicting information from Mr. Letendre that left us wondering what we were going to do to get the issues with our concrete resolved. As a side note, we have since been told by the Minnesota Aggregate Association Mr. Letendre was offered assistance from Aggregate Industries to fix our driveway but declined. We had originally posted an Angie?s List review in January 2014 and took it down when Mr. Letendre said he was willing to work with us to resolve the issues. He has changed his stance on what he was willing to do to fix the issues with his work numerous times and then tried to blame us and make us seem like the ones that can?t make up our minds. I am unable to put into words the nightmare this whole situation has been. It?s been a constant upheaval in our lives trying to work with Mr. Letendre to resolve the issues, unable to use our stairs and unable to finish other projects because Mr. Letendre has not fixed the issues like he promised. At this point, almost a year later, nothing has been fixed and Mr. Letendre claimed customer satisfaction is his #1 priority. Not from my perspective! Over the past few months, we have consulted with other contractors as Mr. Letendre suggested. In doing this, here are the issues in total with our work: Work doesn?t match specifications and diagrams provided. Front stoop, steps, and transition have incorrect pitch/slope and hold water, have bird baths in them making them unusable. Concrete on 3 panels in the center of the driveway was damaged when adjacent concrete was poured, raised lip on the panels that holds dirt and water (and ice in the winter) ? already cracking. An initial coat of curing and sealing compound was not applied to all concrete surfaces per the contract. Cure was not applied within 1hr as is required. Broom finish on concrete is inconsistent ? panels have stripes- Irregularity of work causes the work to be cosmetically poor. Some control joints on the driveway were filled in with concrete during the final finishing. Subsequently, the control joints had to be dry cut with a saw a week later. Driveway slab at garage threshold was not installed at the correct level. Second coat of curing and sealing compound has never been applied per the contract. Value is approximately $1800 of incomplete work. Contract included installing base. There is no base under the first 2 steps. Base under the driveway was unevenly installed. Proper amount of base was not installed for the soil conditions ? 6? is required over clay soil. Slab thickness is inconsistent and in several areas is not what is stated it should be on the contract. Rebar is incorrectly placed within the concrete, our slab varies from 3.5? to 6.5? there is no way in can be in the top third of the slab. Failed to follow industry standard for cold weather procedures for installation of concrete after October 1. Control joint placement was not done to match specifications on contract or industry standards to control stress points between adjacent surfaces. They are not deep enough for slab thickness. Contract specifically calls for wet cut control joints and no saw cut joints. Saw cut joints were done on the steps. Curing and sealing compound was not applied to all work according to the manufacturer?s procedures and industry standards. We hired Letendre Concrete & Design to do a professional concrete job. Initially we were willing to accept partial replacement of the work as resolution. However, in working with other contractors as Mr. Letendre suggested, we?ve identified a significant amount of work that must be torn out and replaced and can no longer just have the driveway replaced. I wouldn?t wish this nightmare on anyone. We have been miserable over the last 12 months trying to figure out how to get this situation resolved, the stress on us as a family has been awful. We paid Mr. Letendre $8750 to start the job. Since June, Mr. Letendre hasn?t even tried to collect the second half of the payment from us. He is well aware it will cost more than that for him or another contractor to fix the poor job done in the first place. If Mr. Letendre doesn?t complete the job as he said he would, we now need to come up with additional money to get the job redone the right way by another contractor fixing all of the problems and issues Mr. Letendre created. Take a look at the pictures we?ve attached. They speak for themselves. The quality of work done by Letendre Concrete was not what you would expect from an experienced contractor.

Response from Letendre Concrete & Design INC
I am willing to agree to [Member Name] (hereinafter referred as “[Member Name]”) desired resolution with the stipulation that they sign a Settlement Agreement and Release document. I am not refunding their money because the [Member Name] feel that the “quality of work is extremely poor ” and that “the (end) result is damaged and poor work that does not match what was contracted for.” I am agreeing to refund the [Member Name] money because I have tried numerous times to come to a mutual agreement with the [Member Name] and have been unsuccessful (all of which I have proof to show through emails exchanged between the [Member Name] and I). This seems to be the only way to come to a mutual agreement. At this point, I stand firm that no matter how great of a job myself and my crew would do to correct the few minor issues that I have taken full responsibility for numerous times (two small puddles on the steps and three driveway panels that connected slightly uneven) it would not be to the [Member Name] satisfaction. From here I would like to explain my side of the story. On September 29, 2013 I met with the Judges at their home to present my proposal to them. We went over all of the [Member Name] expectations and the proposal was signed that night. I was the second contractor to be awarded the [Member Name] job because the first contractor walked away from the job leaving it all torn out and the [Member Name] later disclosed to me that the first contractor had not being paid for his services or asked to be paid for his services as well. This is when all of the red flags started. The [Member Name] supervised the job from start to finish. Upon completion the [Member Name] expressed their concerns with the two small puddles on the steps and the three driveway panels that connected slightly uneven. I agreed last year October 2013 to correct these issues this spring (2014) because it was too late in the season last year. At that time, the [Member Name] were willing to pay me half of the remaining balance due and then changed their mind a day later. Through numerous correspondences between the [Member Name] and I through out the winter in 2013 an agreement could not be reached about the money that was still owed even after I had agreed to fix the [Member Name] steps and three driveway panels in the spring of 2014. This unresolved issue led to multiple meetings at the Judges house and through emails in the spring of 2014. When I went to meet with the [Member Name] this spring the few minor issues stated above were no longer the Judges concerns. The [Member Name] concerns then were adding an apron and additional panels to their existing patio that I had poured in October 2013 - the same patio that they say “is not pitched the way that he (they) asked.” The [Member Name] wanted an apron installed because the driveway panels outside of their garage lifted less than a quarter of an inch (which I have pictures to prove) and have since settled back into place. This is very common with any surface that is “floating” or in other words not poured on top of 42” frost footings. We live in Minnesota and it is inevitable that there will be frost in the ground and the very harsh winter was no exception. The [Member Name] feel that had an apron been installed this could have been avoided. The problem with this whole situation is that I was never given the drawing specifications that were to include an apron- only pitch specification- and I did exactly what was agreed upon and was originally specified in our signed contract. Not to mention again, but my crew and myself were supervised by the [Member Name] from the beginning to the end of completing their job. The [Member Name] knew once the very first pour went in on their driveway that no apron was being installed. Had there been plans all along to have an apron installed the [Member Name] would have said something at that point because the [Member Name] critiqued everything from start to finish Because customer satisfaction is my #1 priority, I had agreed to install an apron, which required for me to tear out the entire driveway in order for all of the panels to match up and for proper pitch to be obtained- at my own expense to please the [Member Name]. At this point, the [Member Name] could not make up their mind as to how the apron would be placed. The [Member Name] wanted the apron doweled (connected) into their garage floor. I was not willing to dowel into the garage floor because the driveway needed to be able to move because of the frost every winter. If it were connected it would have the potential to cause damage to the garage floor. We made an agreement that I would not be liable for any damages caused to the garage floor, but would be willing to dowel it in to satisfy the [Member Name]. At this point, the Judges and I agreed that payment would be made in full before tearing out anything. The [Member Name] sent an e-mail on May 12, 2014 stating “Tracy and I will pay you in advance for the work being done as a good faith gesture, but please be aware a lien waver will be needed when the payment is made (email can be provided to prove statement). When I went to meet with the [Member Name] once more to finalize everything they went back on their word and said that they never agreed to pay me upfront even after being shown their e-mail stating otherwise, and then the [Member Name] changed their mind again and wanted the apron to float separately like I had said from the beginning. This so called negotiating with the [Member Name] started to seem like it was a trial-and-error process for them. This along with many other things regarding the [Member Name] saying one thing and then changing their minds when I would meet to finalize everything became a continuous pattern for them. He even states, “My wife and I have a difference of opinion of events and what has happened...” Which lead me to writing the Judges an e-mail on May 23, 2014 stating that I was no longer willing to work for them and that they were free to hire another contactor. I was even willing to just walk away not even asking for the remaining balance due like the first contractor did, because I knew this would become an even bigger problem and still not have a satisfied customer. To address one last thing my sales rep and myself went back to look at the [Member Name] property on June 5, 2014 and all other driveways that were poured in the 2013 season because of the scaling concrete on the bottom panels due to salt damage, but I never agreed to work for the [Member Name] again as they state. To clear things up there was a manufacturer warranty claim filled on the [Member Name] behalf. This is one of the many scenarios of conflicting information the Judges continue to state. So again, this is why I have agreed to pay [Member Name] so we can all move on from this. Please feel free to contact me for proof of pictures and e-mails, as Angie’s List does not aloud contractors to post any images to their response.
