+ -1 moreWe got bids from 3 different services and Shadywood was reasonably priced and turned in their bid quickly. (They give an Angie's List discount.) Their office staff is responsive and accessible; the work they performed met our expectations and the trees looks good. We did ask to keep leftover wood chips and none were provided. Also, Shadywood said it would take about 12 days before the work got scheduled, assuming good weather. After several weeks of good weather, they had still not done the work. When we called the office to inquire, they were able to prune the trees the very next day.
Description of Work: Pruned 4 trees.

+ -1 moreBrian arrived for estimate on time and provided helpful advice as we walked the yard. Work was completed in time frame promised. Crew worked quickly and did a good job with one exception: they did not clear the tree above the neighbors garage to the agreed upon clearance. I called to follow-up on the weekend and left a message. First thing Monday I received a follow-up call: Brian was on his way to the property to inspect the work. He agreed quickly and had a crew out that afternoon to finish the job. I give all "A's" for the responsiveness and plan to call Shadywood for my next tree service.

+ -1 moreShadywood was very professional from beginning to end. They responded quickly to my call for an estimate. They came on time to do the job. It took about 1 1/2 hours. The crew leader (John) was incredibly skillful and careful climbing the tree - cutting bits at a time and controlling the fall of pieces so no damage was done to neighboring trees. Clean-up was good. The whole operation was a treat to watch. I was worried about the effect of their power equipment on my lawn. It was necessary because of the size and weight of the trunk pieces. Their vehicle had very wide and smooth tires and left no marks in my yard at all. My only disappointment was that nothing was done about the large dents in my grass from the falling pieces. Nothing had been discussed about this ahead of time so I don't know if it should have been addressed or not.
Description of Work: They cut down and removed a large Norway Maple tree from my back yard. The tree was about 60 feet high and growing about 15 feet from my house deck. It was closely surrounded by other smaller trees (maple and ash) which had to be preserved.

+ -1 moreFrom the first telephone call on, all the employees were courteous and polite. They came out and did the bid that week. It took a little longer than usual to have them come out to do the work as they were really busy with calls from storm damage. They came out to grind the stump about a week and a half after cutting the tree down. We are happy with the work performed.
Description of Work: We had a large tree removed and the stump ground down.

+ -1 moreThis company is professional from start to finish. Keith was prompt and thorough with the estimate and let me know what would be taking place. They arrived with a team at 8:30 and the job was done by 11:30. Everything was left cleaner than when they arrived and I felt confident in their work. When an angry neighbor flipped out, they dealt with the issue with class. I will only use this company for future tree work as they exceeded my expectations.
Description of Work: Company removed two trees, a 50ft Ash in our backyard and a 50ft Spruce in our font yard. Stumps ground out and debris hauled away.

There was a misunderstanding about the time that was scheduled, but they were able to explain the estimate over the phone and left it in the door. Their price was competitive, but we ultimately decided to go with someone less expensive. I will definitely call them again.

They at first indicated I would be the following week but called on Thursday night to indicate they could get me in earlier and that they would be there on Friday. This was awesome as the tree was resting on another tree so it would cut down on the risk of it damaging further or moving out of the other tree onto a car with additional weather coming. As I was at the end of the day, I had quite a crew from Shady Tree who came to get the job done. They were all very professional and did a good job of keeping the falling limbs on my yard and not on my neighbors. They sure knew what they were doing and I was impressed how they took the tree down so quickly. The limbs were quickly ground up and when done the mess cleaned up, including on the street. The person who came back to do the stump had a challenge as it was surrounded by mulch and a brick edging but did a clean job with little mess or disruption to the other plants.
Description of Work: I had a tree that had a broken limb due to a storm and because of how it had split. I had to have the entire tree removed and the stump ground out.

+ -1 moreBrian came out to give an estimate; he was helpful, and told me it would be about 3 weeks to have the work done. 2 and 1/2 weeks later, he called saying they would be out the next day. The tree and lilac were trimmed while we were at work. The lilac needed a little bit more trimming, so we called them. They offered to come back early the next week to complete the job. They did promptly on Monday morning, as soon as possible. The crew did a great job, and cleaned everything thoroughly. They even took a big pile of branches I made myself while trimming another shrub. That was great. My one complaint is that the exhaust/heat from the chipper machine killed a 2 x 3 spot of grass on our front lawn. We noticed the spot earlier, but didn't know what is was from. Today, when they were here again, and I was here, I noticed the exhaust going right on that spot. The tree work was great, customer service was great, killing the grass, not so great. We'll see if it comes back quickly.
Description of Work: We had 2 lower limbs trimmed off a large maple tree so we could walk easily under the tree. Also, a large overgrown lilac bush was trimmed back 2 feet so a new fence could be installed.

+ -1 moreOther than the fact that I had to call after three weeks to see when they were going to be accomplishing the job, I have no complaint. (By the way - it was schedule the very next day.) Keith, the estimator, was friendly and punctual. My parents were visiting when the job was accomplished. They were impressed. The crew of five were there for a few hours. They were friendly and professional. They took extreme care not to damage the new/existing landscaping. They were fast and efficient. Other than the fact my trees were trimmed, I could not even tell they had even been there. The work site was very clean and there was no damage to my existing landscape. I was very happy with this experience and would highly recommend! Nice job Shadywood.
Description of Work: 2 Ash trees - trim class 2 deadwood, thin, rake up and haul away. For 1 Ash - clear away from roof at 12'. For 2nd Ash - cut lower branch 14' from ground. Work to be accomplished in 2-3 weeks.

+ -1 moreGreat. We first had them give us a bid. After we tried and failed to get the tree house down ourselves, we asked them to include it in the job. They agreed. From the time of arrangement to completion was about 10 days. They even took the tree house down to the curb for us (they were not able to dispose of it for us).
Description of Work: Took down a huge elm w/a tree house attached to it. Also trimmed and took down a smaller tree. Ground all stumps.

+ -1 moreShadywood Tree Service knew I was flying from California to Minnesota to meet them at my property. I think it is very unprofessional that they waited until I was on an airplane to call me and leave a message. Their act shows that they have little concern for their customers or Angie's List members to leave me a message the night before knowing that I will not be able to get a Tree Contractor out to my property in time before I had to fly back to California. They took business away from another Angie's list contractor that would have been interested in my tree project. I do not think they deserve an " A" rating.
Description of Work: I was traveling from California to Minnesota to visit my summer home and meet with various contractors in regards to getting quotes to hire them for their services. I contacted Shadywood Tree Service a week in advance and setup an appointment with them on Thursday, May 10, 2007 between 11 AM - 2 PM. I explained to Shadywood Tree Service what work I needed performed and they agreed they could do the work even though it was just a tree trimming ( small Job ). While I was flying to Minnesota at 8 PM Wednesday night Shadywood Tree Service left me a message on my cell phone that the job was too small and they could not make enough money on the project. They said they were not going to show up. They knew for a whole week my situation and called me while I was traveling to cancel. This left me no time to find another contractor to look at my project. I find this very unprofessional. They could have called me back the next day after I made the appointment and told me they were not interested.

Description of Work: Took down two large trees hanging over house using cherry picker for the set price of $700, then the crew of four stayed on for 4.5 additional hours with a crew of four taking down and chipping (spraying chips with our permission into edge of woods) about thirty additional trees.

+ -1 moreThis work was excellent. Two large trees that were growing within 12 feet of our home and growing over the house were removed. The trees were in our back yard within a few feet of a retaining wall that is separated from our home by a 10 foot deck. A large crane was brought in and both trees were removed safely with no damage to our home and only tire marks in our yard which is simply amazing. The workers were courteous, punctual, and very skilled. One tree had to be lifted over our two story home to safely remove it. We could not be more pleased.

+ -1 moreBrian estimated the job, taking time to do it right. Workers showed up when scheduled, supervisor got them started and left for a while, then came back to trim the crabapple. Two people trimmed four oaks in about 4 hours. Cleanup was efficient. The chipper was fast and amazingly quiet.
Description of Work: Main problem was oak tree branches scraping cedar shake roof. Also trimmed three oaks that face the west wind, thinned an old crabapple tree, and did some minor trimming too high for me to reach.

They cleaned up the site pretty well when finished. They even left me a huge pile of wood chips for me to use as mulch in my backyard.
Description of Work: One employee ground up two stumps very efficiently. The other crew trimmed up an aging evergreen and two large ash trees including removing 4 limbs. Brian was helpful and friendly when providing me with his estimate and the crew was efficient and made helpful suggestions.

+ -1 moreFirst of all, they were half and hour early! Shadywood cut down a very tall, and dead tree in our backyard. Since we have a heavily wooded lot with a fence they had to use a crane to hold and remove the tree. They carefully placed the crane truck on our driveway and were able to lift the tree in two parts over our house and place on the sideyard. On our request, they then cut it into shorter lengths and moved it alongside our garage. They cleaned up the branches that had fallen and were done in about an hour! We have used them in the past and would certainly use them again.
