Due to a severe storm that passed through our neighborhood, seven of our very tall pines were downed by straight line winds or a small tornado. I called several tree services and requested a quote on the removal. Due to the extensive damage in the area, all the services were in high demand. Brian Curtis of Shadywood Tree Experts was the first to return my call in a timely manner. He came to our house to assess the damage. He was professional and straighforward in conveying the options for the removal of the trees from a gated backyard. It was decided that the use of a crane was the best solution. Brian said he would rework his schedule so that the clients most impacted by the storm would be moved to the top of his list. He told us when he would call with a date and he stayed true to his word. The crane and crew arrived as planned and the neighbors were just as fascinated as we were when the huge trees were lifted from the backyard and brought over the house to be deposited in the front yard so they could then be put in the chipper. We couldn't be more pleased with the service provided by Brian and his crew and have no hesitation about recommending him.

Shadywood did a great job! Brian came to give an estimate the same week I called. The trees are ~10-15 feet from the side of the house, hanging over my roof, leaves in the gutter, sidewalk icy from slow-melting snow dripping from the trees, grass stopped growing, etc. I wanted them trimmed straight up so I could see the sky and perhaps my grass would grow again. As most of them are ash, Brian first suggested cutting them down. We agreed to cutting down the biggest tree and trimming all the branches off the others. He took notes and labeled the trees for his staff to understand. He predicted that the job could be done the next week, and called the next day to confirm. In-between the two dates, I decided to have one more tree cut down that was way too close to the house - Brian said fine ... and no extra charge... really?! I was planning to get home half way through the job but they got done earlier than expected, and it looked wonderful - exactly what I wanted - could see straight up to the sky. Brian stopped over for payment and proactively - his own decision - clipped a couple extra branches at the side of the "woods" - a finishing touch - a professional. I used Shadywood a few years back for the first time to grind a stump, working with Brian's son, Keith, for that job. I will definitely use Shadywood's services again - a great job at a great price. It is a family-owned business, and you can see that both of them (and I imagine their crew) are passionate about their work. Highly recommended.

I have used Shadywood Tree for over 30 years. The tree trimming is always done perfectly, and the few times I had trees that weren't healthy they have managed to get them back on track. Their service has always been great, from coming to give estimates, to doing the work when planned to cleaning up after the job.

The tree crew trimmed 3 trees. The service was professional and performed as expected. No complaints. Clean-up was good. One large tree branch was growing over my neighbor's yard and was removed without even entering their property. Pleased with overall service.

Very professional, personable, and good work. Removed a 15-year old (approx.) maple tree that was dying. Also ground out the stump. We had previously chopped on our own, a very young tree that died, and they ground out that stump also, and removed some branches/brush from the property. We will use them again if needed!

I wasn't home when the service was performed, but my husband was and said everything went great. There were two guys working, one in a crane in our driveway that reached over the house and into the backyard and one on the ground. They cut down a few thick branches from the very top of our tall tree. And when they were done, one of the men even offered to cut up the branches into logs for us because we wanted to use them in our fire pit. (His partner was not pleased with this offer apparently, but they did cut the branches for us, which was very nice. I hope nobody got in trouble for that favor! In fact, the only reason I'm even writing his review was because of that unexpected kindness.)

Quite impressed. Keith came out quickly and gave me a very reasonable quote. Even threw in a few extras. They performed the service two days later. The crew was very efficient and good at their work, even when it came to taking down the remaining 15 foot stump to a 70 foot willow. I added some extra work the day of, and they took care of that without any oversights or mistakes. I'd use them again, and very thankful that my storm damage is now clear when other people may be looking at 3-4 weeks.

When I spoke to Brian to inform him that we had to remove the tree sooner given what happened in the storm the following night, he hung up on me when he learned we had to take care of the work on our own. Such a disappointment as we were existing customers that had been very pleased with their services. I'd like to reiterate that Keith represents the company very well. Brian lacks professionalism and left us feeling both surprised and disappointed.

I called for an appointment to get an estimate, but they would only set a 4 hour window. The other 2 companies that I called had no problems setting specific appoinment times. Shadywood lost my potential business because they expect me to sit around waiting for them. I call that a lack of responsiveness and give them a D.

We had some door knockers came around offering to trim the trees. They did a horrible job and we had branches falling off. We called them and they said they would have someone come out to cut down the tree. I didn't want them to destroy the tree. I called Shadywood and they retrimmed it to make it safe and so it would grow properly. They did a really good job and they saved my tree. I have recommended them to my neighbor who used them in the last 6 months to trim a tree that was hanging over our property and we were afraid it was going to damage our roof. The price was reasonable and the quality was exceptional.

Good company, good people. They do a good job of explaining. Professional. I've been happy with their service. I put in $600 for the cost, but in truth I can't remember what the trimming cost because it was last Fall, but I do remember they were very competitve with the other bids we got, and I was pleased with the price.

They came and trimmed the tree earlier than expected and were very professional. I expected them to trim more than they did, but I'm fine with how it turned out.

I got prices from couple of other companies and they were the cheapest. They also honored the coupon on Angie's List.

The removal was done in about 2 hours. We were pleased with the work and the result.

The arborist was very informative and creative with how to manage our trees. His team returned to perform the work in multiple stages. All of the employees were extremely friendly and spent the appropriate amount of time doing the work. We will definitely use them next year.

Shadywood came out the day after we called to provide an estimate. They were able to squeeze us into their schedule the same week. They cut down and removed the entire tree without harming the yard. They came back the next day and ground out the stump. They did a good job making sure everything was cleaned up. I was very happy with their work.

They did the work when promised, went the extra mile, were punctual, professional, cleaned up carefully, and as a master gardener friend observed, they did a fine job -- and they did it in a timely way prior to a driveway replacement that would have interfered.

This is the first time I have used Shadywood Tree Service. Brian was prompt, knowledgeable, and friendly. The guys performing the service were also friendly and accommodating. They cleaned up great when they left. I would use Shadywood again in a heartbeat.

Overall, I didnt even meet any of the people from this company. All discussion happened over phone conversation. But still to very satisfactory result.

The whole experience went very smoothly. Brian came to do the estimate and was very knowledgeable and helpful. I wasn't sure what all needed to be done. He identified all the dead branches that needed to come down. I also had a question about one very large tree close to the house. The tree looked fine, but had a hole on the trunk about 10 feet up. He said it looked like lightning had hit it many years ago and said the tree was decaying. He recommended removing the tree, although he provided quotes for both removal and just having some branches removed. In the end, we decided to have the tree removed, and the stump grinded, which was done a few days later. The day the tree was removed, looking at the stump, I could see about a foot diameter in the middle of the tree was dead. And I was able to push a thin stick down about 18 inches through the rotted stump. Seeing the decay in the tree, we were glad Brian told us it was dying and recommended removing it. The tree looked fine on the outside, so we had no idea it was rotting from the inside. We were not home for the tree work or the stump grinding. After the tree work was done, it looked as if nothing had happened. The yard looked the same as it did when we left that morning. There was no debris or anything left in the yard. After the stump grinding, the only thing that was left was the mulch from the grinding, which we requested be left to use elsewhere in our yard.
