D & T Appliance Service Co

Appliance Repair, Appliance Repair - Small

About us

D & T Appliance was founded in January 2002 . We started our company with the intentions of providing a professional service experience to the customer; this “professional service” starts with the individual who takes the original incoming call from the customer, answering the call promptly, setting up the service call in a timely manner and then servicing the product when we said we would be there. It seems that this type of service experience was missing from our marketplace as we have since grown to 25 employees. Our company is also the only Nationally Certified Service Center in Minnesota. We specialize in the premium appliances as well as standard appliances. We strive to make sure that every customer is happy and that they want to tell their friends and family about our services.

D & T appliance is one of only 3 companies that are willing to service Danby appliances in the greater Twin Cities area, and I was told that they only started to service them a month before I called. I was told over the phone that there was a $96 diagnoistic fee, which seems like a bit much, but I was very limited in my options of who to call considering the brand. They were able to come out the next business day which was very nice. Anton came out and looked at the different parts that I needed replaced. He was very friendly and professional and did his best to answer my questions. This was the first Danby dishwasher the company had serviced. He took down the information and said that he would check with their parts guy to see if they could get the parts and would call me the next day. When he called the next day, he said he found out that the particular knob that was needed was no longer made by Danby but that he would contact the company to see what could be done. He called me again the next day and informed me that in order fix the knob we would have to completely put in new wiring on the dishwasher and that would end up costing more than a new dishwasher. The other two parts would have come to about $8. So I decided not to have the dishwasher fixed. The company charged me the diagnostic fee, but did not charge me for any of the time that was spent researching the problem.
Description of Work: My speciality sized Danby dishwaher was falling apart in three places - the door lock, the timer knob, and two of the rollers for the top rack. We needed to get new parts. When we tried doing this the previous year directly from Danby, the results were unsuccessful. D & T Appliance had a technician come out to evaluate and research what needed to be done.

We discovered that our refrigerator was not working at 7:30 in the morning. We called D&T at 7:45 and they had someone out at 12pm that day. He came within the window they gave us and got the refrigerator working in about an hour. We are very satisfied with this service and would definitely use them again.

Overall things went really well and I'd certainly call D&T back if I were to have an issue in the future.
Description of Work: I called D&T out to my house to look at our our LG Washing Machine. Upon further analysis, I was given a very honest analysis of my washing machine's issues. In the end, we ended up buying a new machine from a local appliance retailer as it was determined that the price to repair would be at least as much as replacing the washer. The service rep was on time, very professional, and most importantly honest!

The technician arrived promptly as scheduled. He vacuumed out the refrigerator coils and knew what the problem was by the symptoms. He had the component with him and proceeded to replace it. He was very professional, and explained things along the way.

Repair man showed up at reasonable time (given the normal "between 8 and 12" appointment). The door seal was out of alignment. After fixing, he tested the repair to make sure that the problem was resolved before leaving. He cleaned up before he left as well.

Initially contacted dealer, who predicted they would need to order a part. They gave us contact information for LG service, who gave us contact information for D&T. Called late in the day on Tuesday, they could schedule a service call Thursday afternoon or Friday. Service man arrived within scheduled 4-hour window on Thursday, immediately identified the problem, had a board in his truck to replace the failed component. Service man was friendly and polite - no question accepting the Angie's List coupon for 10% off labor. Labor for the call and to replace the board was $180, which seemed pricey, but he had the knowledge and the part to solve the problem in one visit, which I recognize requires an investment - so I really have no beef about that.

The repair person quickly identified the problem and although he did not have the exact part on his truck he was able to use a similar part that has worked out fine so far. I did have a few concerns with the experience: * I called on a Thursday and the first appointment available was Monday. * They show that they give a 10% discount for Angies List customers but when I asked about the 5% Senior discount the repair person said that didn't apply because I was getting the 10% Angies List discount. * $159.00 for 55 minutes of labor seems pretty high.

He determined the problem quckly and had the necessary replacement product in his van. The job was done in an hour. We were able to determine that the part was still under warranty so we were only charged for service. The firm took the steps necessary to apply for the warranty. I thought that the service charge was a little high, ut was glad not to have to pay for the part.

Very prompt. and very honest. He could have EASILY fixed the washing machine and got it running for a bit, BUT instead he was completely honest and showed me how it was not worth fixing. He took the time to pull it apart and put back together and charged me nothing. He also fixed a refridgerator very fast and took the time to explain everything and how problem can be avoided in the future. I could not have been more satisfied with costs and services.

I really can't say if the work was well done because I wasn't here for the repair and I don't really know what a good dishwasher repair would be. But the thing runs now, so overall I am satisfied. The first repairman was courteous and helpful. But this company loses a lot of points in my book for the extraordinarily unhelpful and even obstructive appointment system and a receptionist that gives incomplete information. First -- they said a part would take a week and it took 2 weeks, but they didn't bother to call and tell us. Also, they give a day but not a window when they will come, so unless you have a desk job within about a half-hour of your home, you have to be ready to take the whole day off. Then she told me that I could request a time window, but later the repair guy said that they almost never honor those requests since they only get their appointment the same day and schedule the route accordingly. Also, the receptionist repeatedly made it difficult to get an appointment for installation -- I had to cancel my first appointment because no one could be home, and so I did that and explained why. AFTER canceling the appointment she informed me that they were happy to come in if we could leave a key, and were appropriately bonded and insured. So I agree to leave a key and she then tells me that she probably can't get back on the schedule -- after having canceled the appointment 5 minutes earlier. The next available appointment was a whole week later (she didn't tell me that when I canceled). AFTER I take the appointment, she tells me that they also have waitlists for appointment days. I put myself on the waitlist for the original day. No one calls or anything, so we wait another week. The service was completed, but the customer service was so frustrating. Maybe the receptionist just needs to be better trained, and have a better system in place-- that would make a world of difference for this company. Until then, I won't be back if I can help it.
Description of Work: Dishwasher motor kept running. Repairman came and diagnosed the problem immediately, as a part that failed. The corrosion was obvious once he took it apart. He ended up using one of my tools to dismantle the washer, which I thought was strange. He estimated that it would take about a week to get, and once the repair was in, he'd call us to set up an appointment. Another repairman came back and installed the piece about 3 weeks later. The dishwasher appears to work well now.

We called for service and were told it would 1 week before they could come out and check the washer and the fee would be $200.00 for the visit regardless of the outcome. They found a small part was broken which they did not have on the truck. They advertise the most stocked repair trucks in the metro. We were told it would take one week to get the part. One week later they came out and found the wrong part was shipped to them and they could not repair the washer. They would have to order the right part but they only come out to Maple Grove once a week and it would be a week until they could come out again. We called the office and the response was so uncaring that it surprised us they even advertised being customer focused. Three weeks from the first call our washer is working and the repair person was prompt, clean and replaced the $12.00 quickly. Unfortunately a company that cares less about a customer being with out a washer for three weeks and after not checking their own order to see if they had received the right part and then only come out to Maple Grove on the once a week route after being their problem is not customer focused or one I will use again. I can not recommend them

Our Kitchen aid dishwasher was leaking from the bottom. I contacted D&T who came to do an assessment. Estimate was given and the house call was deducted from our total cost. When D&T returned and replaced the gasket, the dishwasher still leaked. They returned with another gasket (at no charge) and replaced it. Then our dishwasher would not close, so they replaced the latch (again...no charge). Latch didn't work so they replaced it again. After 6 visits, my dishwasher was fixed. D&T was very professional and made sure my dishwasher was working perfect before they would sign off on the work. They stood behind their work and continued to work with me to find out what was wrong with my appliance and to make sure it was fixed properly--at one time bringing a field supervisor in to further a**** the problem. They are diligent and committed to quality service. Special shout out to Jay--thanks so much!

NOT WELL but end result a recovery for the company
Description of Work: Service on our 4 year old dishwasher. We called saying that the drain pump wasn't working. Tech came and, without draining the dishwasher with a shopvac or anything, determined it was the computer. He didn't rule out any blockages or anything. Returned a week later with the part (board) and it didn't work. His notes indicate "put new board in and found bad drain pump and seal for drain pump. Unit will need drain pump and might need board as well." This meant an additional week of waiting and additional costs. In addition, on the second visit tech did decide to drain the water in the bottom of the dishwasher. However, he asked me to supply the shop vac. And, if I didn't have a shop vac, I would have to supply towels and that would "get really messy." Needless to say we just purchased a new dishwasher instead of paying for repairs. I did not trust that the tech knew what he was doing. So, in sum, we spent about $100 to do nothing. Update: I am updating my review to acknowledge the responsiveness and professionalism of this company after I wrote a letter of complaint. I mailed it before a holiday weekend and received a response within a couple days. A big apology with a guarantee of a refund. I suspect I had a bad rep but that this is a good company.

The repair person was on time, friendly, and courteous. The intake person who took my call had failed to ask what was wrong with the dishwasher, so no parts had been ordered. As a result, the repair person had to take down make/model number info, then return for a second visit after the ordered part arrived. They did not charge for a second service call - only for the time involved. He also pointed out which screws to remove if I ever have to fix/tighten the handle again.
Description of Work: Bosch dishwasher handle was loose. Repairing required disassembling the interior of the door, installing new handle parts, and reassembling. Also, there are very few companies who repair Bosch dishwashers.

My washer was not spinning or agitating. This was the first time I had a problem with the washer and the first time I called this service provider. I needed to have my washer repaired as soon as possible. I was able to schedule a D&T repair person for the next day, so that, along with their ratings, was why I used them. The repair person, Jason, called at about 8:15 am to say that I would be his first stop of the day and that he would head to my house after calling his other appointments for the day. Jason arrived at 8:45 am, along with a trainee. The trainee did most of the work, with direction and supervision from Jason. They found that the motor coupler was broken (which was what I thought was wrong, based on my online research). They replaced the part and tested the washer. The job took them 30 minutes. The part cost $20.26, labor was $171.00 and tax was $1.47. I used an Angie's List coupon for 10% off, so total cost, after discount, was $173.46.

The service person tested my oven to determine the cause of the problem and provided an estimate of the cost to repair. He did a great job of answering all my questions. Because of the age of my oven and the cost to repair it, I decided it made more sense to buy a new oven. He was very helpful and I would gladly hire him for any future repair needs I might have.

Looked up who to call on Angie's list, as the store that sold the frig unit has gone out of business. Called for an appointment and was able to pick my date and time a week later. They sent Duane out to see what the problem(s) were, he called for parts but had to order them. He helped set up the time for the installation a week later, again at a time convenient for me. Tom M then came out and after assessing that the water turn-off was not accessible (darn plumber) turned off the house water. Quickly and cleanly changed out the bad valve and the self-destructed ice-maker. Turned the house water back on and made sure nothing dripped. He noted that it looked like the top of the unit had never been opened, and told me it needed to be cleaned every 6 months! After guiding me through what needed cleaning he closed it up and noted that the door handle was loose and tightened it. Tom M was punctual (he and Duane both had called the morning of the appointment to verify a short window of their arrival and make sure that time still worked for me), friendly, helpful with items not on the "job list", tidy, and fast. I recommend both this company and these workers very highly.
Description of Work: Replaced the ice-maker and water valve on my Sub-zero side by side freezer-refrigerator. Noticed that the condenser needed cleaning and helped me do that. Also tightened a chronically loose door handle and told me how to permanently fix it.

Based on my description of the problem he thought the bearings needed to be replaced. Ran the machine for a minute and confirmed it was the bearings and said it would be around $500 for labor (no parts included) and I decided to purchase a new one. It would have been helpful (above and beyond) if someone would have been able to listen to descrption of problem over the phone and provide the same feedback and ask for confirmation of whether service call was worthwhile. Based on that, C is average and experience wasn't better or worse than average.
Description of Work: Provided an estimate for labor (close to cost of comparable new machine) so repair wasn't completed.
