CARPET KING

Larry came out and did a free measurement and helped us select the product that was right for us based on our needs. He color matched the oak trim very well to the spice colored bamboo flooring. This helps our darker furniture flow really well with the room. The installers that Carpet King used were very professional and were error free. The hardwood was done in half the time promised and the carpet was installed in a day. No tack boards were protruding at thresholds which was a large concern originally that I have seen in other shoddy carpeting work in other homes. Larry worked with us on payment methods and was able to get us free installation and tear out/haul away of the old flooring while they were running a promotion without us needing to make full payment in order to obtain the promotion. He also worked with us to make minimal down payment to get the order started while we were waiting to close on our home. Following the closing we were able to finish the payment prior to the install. I will be very excited to see how the carpet and flooring holds up over time.

I wasn't happy. I was happy with the carpet, but not the installation. They used contract installers. They came out twice to redo the installation and now I see the seam is not good. I would never use them again. It is funny, because I have used them before and they are good. It was their contract installers that made them bad. My advice to others is to pay attention to the installation.

The first time I went to the store I found Karen to be very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and professional. A time was scheduled for the measure. On that day, which was planned a week in advance, he was late. Because he was late and had another appointment, my questions weren't really answered and he rushed the job. I did not hear back from Karen as was expected. So, The next week I went into the store. She was working alone, juggling the busy phone, another customer, and I waited half an hour. When she did get to me, she was too busy to help and seemed disinterested. The measure came back at 700 square feet. The lower priced carpet would be $5 psf, or $3500. Instead I went to Lowes. Their measure came to 650 square feet. And I got a much better carpet for $4 psf. I did not like the fact that carpet king was "padding" the footage so I'd spend more. I also did not like the "we won't be undersold" tactic. To get a good price I'd have to run all over town for that deal to work. They should just give a fair price up front, treat customers like they matter, and staff the store properly. They had my sale and lost it.

After picking out my carpet, I was told that only "select" items are available for the advertised next day installation (versus 10+ days to be ordered from the mill). We made an appointment for them to measure my room themselves. On the day of that appointment, the measurer called to say that he had been ill, and his appointments were to have been rescheduled (it hadn't). We rescheduled that appointment, and he arrived 1/2 hr earlier than the quoted window. The day after measurements, the store called to provide the final quote (based on their measurement), and my final price was actually $48 higher than the original quote, despite fewer sq ft. The installer was to call between 7 and 10 on the installation day to tell me when he would arrive. He called at 7:15 to say he would arrive in 20 minutes (I was 30 minutes away)! The installer was pleasant, understanding, careful, and very personable.
