Greg from Maple Crest Landscape came out and I walked him around the property and pointed out the different areas that we were looking to have landscaping done. I told Greg that I was having a total of 4 different landscapers come out and provide plans and quotes for the work. At that moment Greg said he wouldn't even quote out the work because I was just looking for the cheapest price and he wouldn't even waste his time providing a quote because he won't be the cheapest. I assured Greg that we were not just looking for the cheapest price instead since we were looking to have a lot of work done we wanted to find someone that we felt very comfortable with and someone that had the best ideas. After a couple of minutes he agreed to see the rest of the work we would like to have done and then decide if he would provide a quote. We continued around the property and I finished pointing out the rest of the work we were going to have done and told him about specific plants my wife and I like and our preferences for mulch instead of rock etc. after which he agreed he would quote out the work. He said it would take him about 3 weeks to put together a plan. 4 weeks later Greg contacted me and said he had started a plan and wanted to run it by us before getting too far. He came over to the house and presented his plan where his exact words were and quot;I have a bunch of time into this and before I put anymore time into it I want to make sure you like what I haveand quot; His plan did not look like he spent much time on it at all, and it was clear he had not listened to me when we walked around and I mentioned things that my wife and I like. While he was presenting his plan we had our dog in the house and we asked him before he started if he minded having the dog around, he said it was fine and in fact he has dogs as well. When he was done presenting his plan our dog was sitting next to the table and he started to pet our dog and she ended up licking his hand, once she did that he grabbed her mouth and held it shut. Now I understand that getting licked by a dog isn't the most pleasurable feeling in the world, but to grab someones dog and hold their mouth shut is unacceptable in my book. If he would have asked us to let the dog outside, we would have been happy to do that.. After he left my wife and I agreed that he was not someone that we wanted to work with and honestly the designs he came up with we didn't like. From the first meeting to the end, Maple Crest was not great to work with. There are a lot of good landscapers are out there and we ended up going with someone who is just down the road from Maple Crest and they have been amazing to work with.

Their workmanship is exceptional and as an added plus, they cleaned up the work site each and every night before they left. When the project was finished it looked phenomenal and to say the least, my wife and I are extremely pleased. We obtained a bid from four different landscapers and Maple Crest was in the middle as far as pricing. I was already leaning towards selecting Maple Crest, and after talking with a couple of previous customers, I was sold on them. Dan Ryan, their project supervisor, is very courteous, respectful and a pleasure to work with. When I first contacted Maple Crest for a bid, Dan came out the next day and by the end of the day I had their proposal via email. I liked his promptness. We added two other additions to the original project and each time Dan sent me their proposal within a day, so I always knew where we stood on costs. Even though we made many changes and additions during the project, the final cost was still very close to what I was expecting the project to originally cost. From the start, I trusted Dan and never felt once that I was going to be over-charged or that I was going to be cheated. They did what they promised and even more. It was very refreshing to work with a company with such strong work ethics amongst their people. We had a pretty good idea as to what we wanted, but we weren’t able to visualize the whole project until certain phases were completed. Dan and Steve, the onsite team lead, were both invaluable with their suggestions as to what would look the best for our yard. Even though I wondered about a couple of their ideas, I’m very grateful that we listened to them instead of ourselves. Steve and his crew were also a pleasure to work with during the three weeks they were working on our project. Steve is a stickler for details for which I am very thankful. He worked on our project as if it was for himself, which is a rarity these days. All of the walls are straight and level which is extremely important to us. We have two walls over 50 feet long and they are both as straight as an arrow. Steve was very patient with me during the whole project even though I asked many, many questions about how, why and what they were doing or going to do next. I am sure I frustrated and annoyed Steve at times, yet he never lost his patience with me. I appreciated that. Maple Crest Landscape is lucky indeed to have such great employees, such as Dan, Steve and the rest of their crew working for them. I would hire Maple Crest Landscape in a heartbeat for our next landscaping project. I also wouldn’t have any problem at all in having them do the work without bidding it first because I know it would be the same price either way.
Description of Work: Maple Crest re-landscaped approximately 70% of our yard. The work consisted of replacing an old three tier wood retaining wall with a two tier retaining wall on the north side of the house. We added another two tier retaining wall all the way across the back of the house, with the lower section approximately 70 feet long and the upper section being 50 feet. We also added one small retaining wall on the south side of the house. All of the retaining walls were done using the Anchor block retaining wall system. In addition we also had them re-grade & re-sod the front and south side of our yard to correct poor drainage that had been causing water problems in the basement.
