Total Comfort

Total Comfort is an apt name for this organization. We purchased a new heating and central air conditioning system from them last year, and we have had both excellent comfort from our new equipment, but also total comfort in terms of the service we have received since then. This is a real professional outfit that sells and installs quality equipment and is clearly dedicated to customer service. The price might not be the lowest, but the value per dollar is definitely worth a bit more.

Please note I am generally happy with the service companies I use but I had to share this story to other potential consumers of Total Comfort. I have been a member of the Total Comfort PCC (Preferred Client Club) for 3 years and have had them do a fall and spring check up/cleaning every year. In the past I have been a little sceptical of how they always found some kind of part that needed to be replaced but they always showed up on time and kept my furance and AC running. This past month my AC unit went down and I called for a service tech to come take a look at it. I explained to him it had been running fine until recently and then the fan stopped coming on. After about a 10 minute inspection that did not include examining the inside of the unit he told me my fan was broke (a $835 repair) and because of the age (19 years old) he thought other parts were likely to break down soon. He "strongly" recommended a new AC unit (about $3000)!! Up to this point I had taken the technicians word for most small repairs without much due diligence but for a new AC unit I did a little investigating first. My first call was to the local Bryant salesman (my AC unit brand), who was very helpful, and suggested I simply try replacing the capacitor. I purchased a new capacitor for $7.40 and replaced it myself (I'm by no means a handyman either). Since replacing the capacitor my AC unit has kept my house cool through this record hot summer. Replacing my capacitor was never even presented as a option by Total Comfort and I'm quite sure there's nothing wrong with my fan!!! Needless to say I have quite the PCC and will not be using Total Comfort in the future. I seriously question the ethics of Total Comfort and their sales techniques!!

For a $185 service call, I got a 10 minute inspection and a sales pitch to buy a new central AC unit rather than any repair work. I called Total Comfort to schedule a tech to come out to inspect and repair my central air conditioning unit which is out of order. The scheduling person said they would charge me at the "Premium" rate because they were busy, even though the tech was scheduled to come out during business hours of a week day. When the tech arrived, he did not bring the equipment necessary to fix a small leak in a copper pipe. So he could not do the repair and said I would need to schedule another tech to come out. He then quoted what seems like a very large amount for the repair and began a sales job trying to convince me to purchase a new unit. I know some of the things he told me about my existing unit and its condition/problem are not true. The tech left without fixing anything, because he did not have tools which I would expect any service tech to carry. I asked him to have a salesman call me to discuss the options for replacement vs repair. He ridiculed people in his own company saying he would have a specific salesperson call me, because I "would not like [name (another TC salesman)]'s approach." I did not recieve a call. I finally called Total Comfort. The "sales coordinator" I spoke to had no information to confirm repair costs or compare them with replacement costs. He said he would have a salesperson call me to provide additional information. It has now been three weeks and I have not received a call. As it turns out, that is ok, because I will not do business with Total Comfort again.

They arrived when they said they would. Scheduled the install within a week and completed the install on time. They cleaned up afterword so that I didn't even know they had been there. The pricing was good and the financing is fantastic. I have already recommended them to other people.

We have been using them for quite some time. They come out twice a year for air-conditioning and furnace tune-ups. They used to do all kinds of appliances, but now they do only furnaces and air conditioners. We have a yearly maintenance agreement that covers the tune-ups. They look at the furnace and make sure that it is running okay. They have always been very prompt and have showed up right away whenever I have had problems with the furnace.

Great. We received several quotes. Despite being a bit higher, we went with Total. They did a great job and cleaned up all debris afterward. We also joined their preferred customer club to ensure HVAC is running properly year round.

initially called for a simple service call to discuss a loud fan motor, was informed that we had minor cracks in the furnance that could last another 5 years (or 5 days). Furnance was already 17 years old, so decided to take advantage of tax credits and install a high efficiency furnance. Furnance is much quieter, but haven't decided yet if the house is more evenly heated or if are electric/gas bills are going down. Regardless, sales consultant who came out was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions and dealt with the little kids running around. Installation team did a nice and cleaned up. So all in all a good experience. I would recommend them.

I received Total Comfort's appointment though a representative at Home Depot in one of Minnesota's metro stores. After the in home assessment and presentation, I accepted the bid for replacement furnace and air, signing his Home Depot papers. Initially I thought this subcontracting company through Home Depot might work for me. But after reconsideration, I decided to exercise my 3-day right of rescission on the Home Depot contract. I went into Home Depot and cancelled in writing the contract including talking by phone with Total Comfort. This appeared to be successfully concluded. Six days later my new Home Depot credit card was charged by this subcontractor by mistake. Total Comfort was very apologetic and worked hard to undo their mistake quickly. However the charge on my new credit card for 10 days shows up on my credit report as reducing my credit score. Though I have cancelled the credit card, I have to contact the 3 credit agencies to correct what happened to my credit score.

I ended up deciding not to replace the A/C unit. The company performed well, but I never did the work. I was pleased with the estimate.

I will not get into detail. I do not recommended them.

They were one of the few available to install this type of product, which only began selling in February of this year. It's a pretty big company, but they took time to answer my many questions. They showed up when they said they would and were very professional.

They are a great company who did great work. It was a great experience and we haven?t had any troubles with them. They had the best quotes out of the companies I examined. They also did follow ups on their own. They contacted me to see if there were any issues that needed to be addressed.

This was at the top of my list for worst experiences with a repair person EVER. I called total comfort because they originally installed a new AC/Furnace/Exchanger after our 5 YEAR OLD SET was apparently not salvagable. I wasn't comfortable with that situation - I should have learned from it. I called them yesterday because my AC was leaking water. The technician came to the house and was condescending and flip with me. I felt very pressured to buy their monthly service plan. I heard variations of get the plan and today is free to get the plan and save 20 bucks today - price all over the board. I feel totally taken advantage of. I have no confidence in the work performed or that the problem with the AC was fixed. The whole experience was very uncomfortable. I would NEVER do business with this company again under any circumstance. My dad retired from this business after 30 years. I called him tonight to discuss. He said he was surprised my AC needed a start up kit being around 4 years old. He said that in twelve years, he could only remember installing one of those kits. Anyway - I would be leary of these guys and get other bids. I see that the other F's on Angies all have the same complaint as me - rudeness and aggressive sales techniques. Hope you can avoid this situation.

The whole process went extremely well. Everyone we worked with from Total Comfort was very professional, very easy to work with, and extremely patient with all our questions. Gary walked us through the various options and helped us make an informed decision. The installers Joel and Chad did a great job. The install looks professional, and you can see the quality in the workmanship. They put down drop cloths and cleaned everything up nicely. They also did a follow up inspection to help optimize the system to our home. The work was done in a very efficient manner and completed on time. I was very impressed with Total Comfort and would recommend them.

The price was far better than other quotes I received. The installers were very poilte and great to work with in my home. The install was clean and actually quite quick (for what was installed). They left the work area very clean and didn't mind that the dog was in the house during the install (which was helpful since it was raining).

We have a service plan that costs twenty dollars a month that includes semi annual inspections. They are punctual and knowledgeable. They aren't cheap but you get what you pay for. Their quality is very good.

The owner came with David Roth, the sales guy, to try and come up with a couple of solutions for our house because and it is a little older. They really listened to us. We had a few companies come out and look at our house and they were by far the most responsive to us and our needs. Their follow up has been excellent and they make sure that we are happy. If there has ever been any kind of concern they send someone out to take a look at it. They were very professional and were prepared to do the job without having to stop to get parts. They gave us an estimate that they stuck to in the end. The installer was awesome as well.

The bidding process was comfortable, and they had a good understanding of the technology I was interested in. (Not all HVAC contractors were up-to-date about modern efficient equipment.) They were very patient and made two personal visits in order to make sure I understood their bid and my options. I did not ultimately hire them because I got a much cheaper bid for similar equipment from another contractor.

Originally, David came to give us an estimate on installing the HRV. Then we decided to replace our 20 year-old air conditioner. Joel and co-workers efficiently overcame any issues that arose along the way as far as venting was concerned. The crew was professional and cleaned up at the end.

The representative from Total Comfort arrived on time and was very personable. We had been uncertain as to the age of the existing furnace in our home and also aspects of its installation. We also had questions on replacement, or future replacement, with upgraded air cleaning technology and furnace models with higher efficiency ratings. The representative looked at our furnace and determined it was not as old as we thought. He provided us with information and made recommendations for what we should be thinking about in terms of replacement. He also answered our questions on our current air conditioner so that we can plan for that, too. The experience was good and as a result we are planning to have Total Comfort perform our annual furnace tune-up.

Steve was over 1 hour late. I had to call to see if he remembered. He was very thorough and went through every room of our house. He was very knowledgeable on the systems. We decided to go with a Bryant due to being overall cheaper but more importantly that they had a 95% efficient furnace vs the Trane's 80%.

Our service guy Jason came within hours of my call. He was quite respectful to me, the house and the equipment. He went through a complete check list of things that could have been going on. The conclusion was our 20+ central air conditioner had served us well past the average and it was time to replace. He gave us a number of someone to call to set that up. Though we did not use them for the install I would have been fine with it. The only thing I would recommend was make sure of the price up front. I had told them I had a coupon from Craig's List. Apparently on certain days, the service charge is higher than others and my coupon for $25.00 was included as that day was a higher priced day. It was not an unreasonable charge either way.

Job 1: It was below zero outside that morning. The furnace stopped working during the night. I appreciate that Brad from Total Comfort was able to come to my house that morning. Brad went outside and cleared the ice off the blocked furnace intake pipe and replaced a weak igniter on the furnace. Job 2: It went well. Brad did a good job.

It went very well. Timely and professional. Thank you again.

Price is a maintenance package and includes furnace & A/C check. The worker was knowledgeable and friendly.
