Excellent Job! Tony was very professional. He anticipated any questions I had and answered all of them. He went straight to work and got the job done quickly and neatly. He really knows his stuff about HVAC and furnaces! He was prompt and showed up exactly on time and that let me get on with my life sooner with a nice warm, shiny, new furnace. Thanks Total Comfort! Great! They were very professional and friendly. Used drop cloths to bring everything in and down the stairs. Even brought their own broom and dustpan! Were very thorough walking us through the new system and told us to call if we ever had questions.

I scheduled a routine furnace tune-up for $59. The repairman said I needed to have the inducer draft motor replaced and quoted $909. He showed me where there were some previous water spots which meant a problem. Had a second opinion and they said it would be fine for a year or two or maybe more and recommended not doing anything at this time. Said it would cost $600 to $800. He said to monitor it and if I saw water, it would be time to replace. This was in mid Nov. Now almost 4 months later the furnace is fine and I've had no more problems, have never seen any water and I check it a couple of times a week.

We had temperature issues in our house and had talked to many contractors who all said different things and put a hard sell on us for new or fancier systems. The guys from Total Comfort were a great to work with. They listened to my problems and rather than pushing us to buy a new or bigger system they actually worked to diagnosis the problem and provide a range of solutions they thought would solve the problem (which did not include a new or bigger system). The climate control system they recommended is working great and has resolved our temperature issues. We had such a good experience with them that when it was time to replace our HVAC system we went straight to them. Justin and Gary were honest and up front with us and it was pleasure to do business with them.
Description of Work: A climate control system was installed then later we had them replace our HVAC system.

The man said the air conditioner was broken and wouldn't be worth fixing. He said it wouldn't turn off. I asked if he cleaned the air conditioner and he said it was great. He talked to me about buying a new one and offered to sign me up. Because I had just moved in and had American Home Shield, I called them. They sent someone out and he found it was the thermostat and not the air conditioner, which he said was fine. He did say the air conditioner was very dirty!! I felt like they were not honest or ethical.

I bought a furnace under two years ago, Nov 2015, based on the company's recommendation. Then recently, the furnace motor experienced issues. I called them for service. The tech said it was someone else's fault and that we didn't have any warranty even though our paperwork with them shows we have 10 years parts warranty and a 5 years labor warranty. I called the furnace company, Train, and they said Total Comfort is an independent contractor and don't have to honor their warranties. Train will provide the parts, but not the labor. They recommended another company that would do the work for $159. Total comfort quoted me $1069, but it should have been nothing since we had a warranty. I would not recommend this company to anyone!
Description of Work: I purchased a furnace from the company in November of 2015 that has been experiencing problems. I contacted them about using our warranty to have the issues fixed.

I have to qualify my "Yes" answer to the "Would you hire again" question. I think I would...maybe. The work went well except for an unfortunate mistake that has caused us a big headache. The guy who came out did a good job of replacing our thermostat and diagnosing the problem with our air conditioner. He also attempted to go above and beyond by hosing out our AC unit for us. It was quite dirty, and I had asked him about the best way to do this, but did not ask him to do it. I had to go back to work before he was done inside. He never mentioned anything, before or after, about hosing out the AC unit himself, and unfortunately, he left the outdoor faucet turned on when he finished. The spray nozzle on the hose shut the water flow off, but eventually the pressure built up at the faucet end where the connection is not super tight (it's an old hose), and water started spraying...unbeknownst to us. About 30 hours later, we discovered that our basement family room was soaked--the carpet, furniture and a section of hardwood. We now have to have a water mitigation company come in and deal with this, including demolishing the wall and possibly tearing up the hardwood. I feel bad for the worker. He made an innocent mistake while trying to do a good job for us--and in the end, our insurance and Total Comfort/Home Depot's insurance should cover it 100% (I'm told). But in the meantime, it's caused a big headache for us.
Description of Work: Our AC unit and thermostat were both not working. Needed new thermostat and new fuse on AC unit.

Very well. Bryan was our technician (he also came last winter to do our furnace review) and we truly appreciated his professionalism, expertise and willingness to answer questions. Bryan suggested that we add surge protection and the hard start kit to improve our A/C compressor life, and, after having to pay for an A/C replacement in another property, we thought the hard start kit ($252) was well worth the price. We choose to belong to Total Comfort's Preferred Client Club so that we stay ahead of maintenance issues on our HVAC system. We also appreciate the discount we get, in the event we do need to replace/upgrade our equipment. Total Comfort's literature states that they focus on member education, and we would very much agree with that. Bryan was an excellent communicator and helped us understand clearly why we should consider these upgrades, but he was not pushy. We also appreciated the fact that the same technician came to service our furnace and A/C unit, adding familiarity with our system and building trust with the technician to our list of reasons we like Total Comfort, plus, we learned that in the future, we can request to have the same person do our maintenance checks. We were very pleased with Bryan's work and would definitely recommend Total Comfort as a quality HVAC company!
Description of Work: We had our seasonal A/C tune up performed (for the first time) and also opted to have the suggested upgrades (surge protection and hard start kit to improve compressor life and efficiency) installed. Additionally, our A/C unit was low on refrigerant, and that was added.

The install was rescheduled by them three times--after taking work off each time. The unit was installed and was not tested before sub-contractor left the job site stating that it was in working order. The unit did not cool or dehumidify the room. After calling the sub-contractor, they came out but spent three hours on-site, not able to determine the problem. They now need to find technical support to try to determine why the compressor won't engage. I asked for the unit to be replaced as it was brand new and should be in working order, not defective. The problem has not yet been resolved so I have paid for the unit in full and have an installed unit that does not function!

All of the service guys were great, but the office/sales people were not. When the service guy was there Friday, we got the sales guy on speaker phone and he said he would be there by 9:00 Saturday morning. When I hadn't heard from him by 10:00 on Saturday, I called the company - the person tracked him down and he said he would be by later that afternoon. When he finally came mid afternoon he told me I was first on the list for install on Monday morning. Monday morning came and I had taken the day off from work...again, I had to called the company when no one showed up by 9:00. Dan called me back to say he wasn't sure they were going to make it today, that they scheduled someone else in front of me. I reminded him that he told me I was first on their schedule. He said he would get back to me later when he could tell me when I was on the schedule. Late in the afternoon I had to call him again - he said he hoped he could get someone out on Wednesday but he wasn't sure. I told him either he guaranteed they would be there Wednesday or I would take my business elsewhere (which if I had known Monday morning I would have had to wait, I probably would have been able to find someone else). The guy did come on Wednesday and they put the furnace in - like I said, the technicians were good. When spring came and it was time to install the air conditioner, I called and they took my name and number and it took them a week to get back to me. We scheduled the appointment and someone came out and installed. The air conditioner was a bit flaky and didn't always work, so they ended up having to come back and they said it was a fuse or something. They fixed and I had the city guy come out to do an inspection. He said we still needed an electrical inspection and to let Total Comfort know and they should be able to get it done. I called them and someone called me back and asked me to send a copy of the permit to them. I scanned it and emailed it right away. I sent them a second email two weeks later when I didn't hear back from them. I still haven't heard from them. Like I said, the technicians were great - the equipment I'm not convinced is that much better than my old 30 year old unit was - the the sales, office and project managers are the ones that are getting the poor grade....sorry guys, #dobetter

I called Total Comfort based on the previous reviews and the fact that the company we had used in the past was booked for over a month. My call was answered right away and a friendly service agent walked me through what to expect, possible costs, and was able to set up an appointment just a few days away. Even though the window for service was between 8-4 the technician, Craig, called to let me know when he was getting closer to my appointment and again when he was on his way. We have an older AC unit so the cost of freon was insane, but not something I think the company has much control over. The bill was much more than I had hoped for, but the work was done well, quickly, professionally, and I received updates and options all along the way. I would recommend this company and will use them again if needed.

Technician did not show up. Tenant waited an hour after scheduled window. We never received the "20 minutes away" call. After calling the following day to notify company of the lack of professionalism on their techs part, the scheduler was just as bad. Completely unempathetic and refused to move us up on the repair schedule even though their technician missed the service call. To make it worse, "notes" from technician showed that tenant already had someone repairing unit. That's why I called asking for rescheduling the next day, right? Would not hire, nor recommend this company.

The technicians were friendly, prompt and respectful. They performed the work they were hired to do. When we called to inquire about possible errors, the technician came out and fixed one of the issues. I have been pondering this review for several months. I’ve had a couple of red flags that have contributed to my lower rating and my response of “No” to the question about rehire. 1) Initially I felt slight pressure from the sales person. I understand it is the sales persons’ job to get the sale and I take ultimate responsibility for giving in to the pressure instead of taking a day to consider all my offers. Part of my unease was the possible lower quality of the product. I did some research into the quality of the product and was not impressed, although I previously learned that poor product ratings are most often attributed to poor instillation quality. Looking back over the situation, I would have waited and probably chose a different company. 2) I was told from other professionals that the older coolants (our previous A/C was approximately 29 years old) used smaller coolant lines and today’s coolants/compressors required larger coolant lines to ensure efficient flow and therefore efficient compressor operation. While talking to the sales person, he (verbally) agreed this was the case and that our lines would be replaced. I called to inquire about them not replacing the coolant line (vs. just using the previous one). The customer service person took my information and said she “had to discuss this with the company owner” and would get back to me. After a day or two she called me back and (politely) told me that it was not in the contract that they would replace the coolant lines and that the technicians did flush out the existing lines to remove any old coolant. She further gave me a line that today’s coolants are more efficient and therefore do not need larger coolant lines. I am a Mechanical Engineer and have studied fluid dynamics. Fluid cannot be more (or less) efficient. Fluid flow can be based on a number of variables, including pipe (tube) size. I feel as though I was being fed a line using the same language that I used just so they could justify not doing what the salesperson said they would (just to get a sale). 3) Shortly after install, our furnace was no longer putting out heat on a very cold weekend. I called (on a Friday early evening) to request a service call and the scheduler informed me we would have to pay an emergency fee to have them out on a weekend, even though our furnace was no more than 2 months old and clearly still under warranty (for both product and service). I wasn’t about to pay an emergency service call so I agreed to have them come out on the following Monday as we had other means of heat. I cannot believe the company would charge an emergency fee to customers with product clearly in the warranty period. The policy could be that only if the cause of the issue was determined to not be covered by warranty then a reasonable emergency service fee may be added. A slight redeeming factor that happened was that on Saturday, the (lead?) technician who originally installed our furnace called to see if he could perhaps resolve the issue over the phone. After some research, he determined it would require a service visit and he offered to come out the next morning – for no emergency fee. He got our furnace working (some fluke occurrence that he’d never seen before) by doing some short fix. He said he ordered a new part for us as a permanent fix. However, he has not been back to install whatever part was supposed to have been the issue. Our furnace is still operating so I’m not sure it’s worth the hassle to follow-up on this. My advice to other potential consumers is do not give in to any sales pressure. Go with your gut and do proper research to help make a large purchasing decision.
