Have a second level deck? Finish what you started with Underdeck water management installation and keep the party outside. Clean asphalt and cedar roofs! Pressure washing decks, docks, and concrete. ICE DAM REMOVAL by the foot. No hourly charge
Wonderful experience, very knowledgeable and a good referral source.
Description of Work: I have use Deck & Shingle Care for several years, from asphalt roof cleaning and gutter cleaning, deck washing and ice dam removal in the winter. I really like the approach to ice dam removal. They charge by the lineal foot so I did not have any surprises on the amount of time needed to clear my ice dams. They installed a water management system to my second level deck so now I can keep the patio clean and dry.

Working with Tom was a joy. He came right in and cleared the deck and went to work. Power washed and applied the product that he picked up from the local vendor.

Tom was very responsive to my call and came right away. He was very helpful in explaining before, during, and after his examination. I appreciate that he was honest in referring me to seek out a licensed general contractor. I found his assessment fee to be very reasonable. Tom also helped me a couple of years ago with removing ice from my roof. He was very responsive at that time as well. I highly recommend him for his expertise and professionalism. He helped educate me and look at the long term and bigger picture in order to save expenses down the road.
Description of Work: Tom came out and assessed a leak I had on an addition. He helped me determine the source of the leak was structural in nature and beyond his area of service;. he suggested I find a licensed general contractor.

Roof cleaning was done well, but he only replaced a small percentage of the damaged shakes, and several are now coming off the roof because they were not replaced. Will have to have another contractor come in to replace the rest of the damaged shakes.

I BELIEVE THIS PROJECT WAS DONE OCTOBER OR EARLY NOVEMBER 2007, ON A ROOF APPROXIMATELY 10-15 YEARS OF AGE. IT IS NOT UNCOMMON FOR ANY CEDAR SHAKE ROOF TO LOOSE SHAKES, ESPECIALLY OLDER ROOFS WITH A LOW 4/12 PITCH. MOISTURE RETENTION SIMPLE ROT THE SHINGLES. THIS IS MORE PREVALENT UNDER A HEAVY TREE CANOPY. WHILE THE CUSTOMER FEELS HE OVER PAID FOR SERVICE DELIVERED, ALL BIDS CONTAIN REPLACEMENT FOR MISSING SHINGLES WHERE FELT IS EXPOSED. MY GOAL IS TO MINIMIZE THE OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE FOR THE CUSTOMER, NOT TO DRIVE UP THE COST BY REPLACING EVERY SHINGLE THAT LOOKS OLD OR IS CRACKED. GIVEN THIS REPORT COMES NEARLY 12 MONTHS AFTER THE WORK WAS ACCOMPLISHED AND NO NOTICE FROM THE CUSTOMER VIA EMAIL OR PHONE CALL GIVEN TO ME, I FIND THE REPORT REGRETTABLE. THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT ADDITIONAL SHAKES HAVE ROTTED, BEEN CHEWED OR BLOWN OFF AND THAT FURTHER SHAKE WORK IS REQUIRED AT THIS TIME. THIS CUSTOMER RECEIVED THE EXACT SERVICE ON WHICH I BID AND PERFORMED. INTERESTING, THE ADDITIONAL SERVICE I PERFORMED BY WASHING HIS DECK AT A FIFTY PERCENT DISCOUNT GOES UNRECOGNIZED.

THEY WERE PROMPT AND CLEANED UP AFTER THEIR WORK. HOWEVER, AFTER 2 1/2 HOURS OF WORK, HE CHARGED $550. WHEN QUESTIONED ABOUT THE ADDITIONAL COST, HE REPLIED THAT THE $150 PER HOUR WAS FOR THE STEAMER ONLY, THE 'ADDITIONAL GUY' WAS MORE. HOWEVER, WE FEEL THEY 'LOW-BALLED' THE BID OVER THE PHONE TO GET OUR BUSINESS. SINCE WE NEEDED SOMEONE RIGHT AWAY, I FEEL THEY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE SITUATION, AND THE FACT THAT THE CUSTOMER WAS A FEMALE. ACCORDING TO THE ESTIMATE, ($150 PER HOUR FOR 2 1/2 HOURS OF WORK) THE TOTAL COST SHOULD HAVE BEEN $375. THE ACTUAL COST WAS $550. THEY DID GOOD WORK, AND IF THEIR BID HAD BEEN HONEST AND ACCURATE, I WOULD HAVE HAPPILY WORKED WITH THEM AGAIN. INSTEAD, I FEEL CHEATED.
Description of Work: CONTRACTOR GAVE A BID OVER THE PHONE OF $150 PER HOUR FOR ROOF SNOW REMOVAL AND STEAM REMOVAL OF ICE DAMS.

JUST A NOTE TO EDUCATE THE MEMBERSHIP REGARDING ICE DAM REMOVAL SERVICES. STEAMERS ARE THE SAFEST METHOD FOR ICE REMOVAL. A TYPICAL SEASON FOR THOSE OF US WHO REMOVE ICE DAMS WITH STEAMERS IS GOING FROM CUSTOMER TO CUSTOMER, AS DELAYING ICE REMOVAL CAN RESULT IN FURTHER DAMAGE TO YOUR PROPERTY AND AN INCREASED POSSIBILITY OF YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY FAILING TO HONOR YOUR CLAIM BY NOT MITIGATING OR PREVENTING THE ICE DAM IN THE FIRST PLACE. MOST CONTRACTORS USE A 2 GAL PER MINUTE STEAMER FOR THIS WORK. I USE A STEAMER TWICE AS POWERFUL USING 4 GALLON PER MINUTE GENERATING 750,000 BTU'S WHICH MAKES IT TWICE AS EFFICIENT AS THE SMALLER 2 GALLON USED BY OTHERS. AS THIS REPORT IS PRIMARILY CONCERNED WITH PRICING ISSUES, HERE IS THE STANDARD PRICING. $150 PER HOUR FOR STEAMER, TWO MAN CREW WITH 2 HOUR MINIMUM @ $90 PER HOUR. THE CLIENT WOULD HAVE PAID 150 PER HOUR FOR 5.5 HOURS INSTEAD OF 2.5 HOURS. SHE ACTUALLY SAVED OVER $300 BY USING MY SERVICES. AS FOR THE COMMENT THAT SHE WAS A FEMALE WHO WAS TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF, I WON'T DIGNIFY THAT WITH A RESPONSE.
