The demolition went well and the concrete apron went well. Both crews were very helpful and knowledgeable. However, the asphalt crew was another issue...simply put, the driveway, which is 3 cars wide, is not smooth and the crew was not friendly and smoked in my garage! I now have an asphalt driveway (for 2 years) that is wavy! I explained this issue to Aurora and I got the impression that they didn't care!!

Poor customer service. Phone calls not returned. Concrete spotted. Told to wait for one year but it did not resolve. Told they would stain. Didn't follow through, delayed and delayed. House on market and asked to get it done. Delayed and delayed. Ironic that they answer their phone with "customer service a top priority." Would never recommend them to anyone.

Buyer Beware – We used Aurora Asphalt & Concrete to replace our concrete driveway and sidewalk in 2015. Over the winter, a crack developed on our sidewalk, a place in which we had no problems with our previous 20 year old concrete. We had the company out the following summer and were told they do not cover or fix cracks. We had the company out again this summer as this has now expanded into a much larger split with small pieces of the concrete breaking loose. I was disappointed that Aurora Asphalt & Concrete would not help with the repair or assist us in finding someone to help. The company has told me: 1. They don’t cover cracks 2. This still looks like a crack and we are now beyond our warranty (although we had them out well within the warranty timeframe) 3. They don’t do repairs of this small size, even if we were to pay for it 4. They don’t give references for other companies who could do the repair When I choose a company, I want to know that they will do quality work, honor that work and help us with headaches down the road. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case with this company. I would not use them again and I will not refer them to others.

Added a parking pad alongside my driveway to allow for offstreet parking for all our cars during the winter. also widened the driveway to eliminate tight curve of existing driveway and eliminate accidental driving on lawn. Aurora Asphalt met with me, heard my problem, and offered an excellent solution. Upon completion the new driveway matches very well and looks as if it was all part of the original installation.

Aurora was responsive up through scheduling of the sealcoat. However, the sealcoat was subpar - the edges of the driveway were not edged with a blade. I sent customer service pictures via email, and made a few phone calls before finally getting through to my representative (they never actually called or emailed me back.) She explained that their practice is to use a rotating wire brush, and they do the best they can with the brush. I'm not satisfied with this service (especially with their lack of responsiveness) and will not use them again.

It all looks great, It would have been more informative if they the workers could have told me that we will not do a sawcut and sealcoat instead would be trowel scored and sealed the same day not the next day .I wanted the sawcut look. The estimator told me it would be sawcut. All and All it looks great. Hope it looks as good next year after are winter. Thanks,

We were all surprised to see that the original driveway did not have a class 5 base, so they immediately brought some in and did a great job of packing it down. The neighbors blocks away, on walks passed it, noticed and commented about the smooth base. The Aurora supervisor wasn't happy and they redid the base to absolute perfection. Again neighbors noticed the great care they took. The asphalt install went in on time and was incredibly well done. They picked up little things I didn't see, worked as a well oiled team, and didn't stop until they were satisfied with the results. My husband is a detail perfectionist and has never been happier with a contractor in 35 years of owning this house.

We had both our driveway and front walk replaced. The Aurora rep contacted us quickly and came out for the estimate within a couple of days. When we agreed on the price and work to be done, the work scheduling was done in a timely manner. The information provided ahead of time was thorough on what we should and shouldn’t do after installation. Both the concrete and asphalt crews did excellent work. Aurora checked back after the work was done to make sure everything was good.

Excellent. The work was done in two days and the result was quite excellent. My only complaint is that it was difficult to plan around this event because I did not hear from them for a couple of months about when the replacement would take place. I understand that the concrete business is a challenging one because weather plays a very big role in scheduling. However, I sent a check in May and it was cashed within a week or two, yet I did not receive a phone call for more than 1 month. It seems to me that scheduling and communication could be better than that. Aside from the communication problem (I expect is is common in this industry because the other companies I called for estimates did not even call back), The team was really efficient, and did excellent work. When they left, there was no evidence of their labor besides a beautiful new driveway. The site was clean, no additional damage, and terrific work!

Do not hire Aurora! They poured a new concrete driveway for us October 11, 2018, and returned to make expansion cuts the following day. At the time, we expressed concerns about the weather (too cold and wet), the hurried-fashion with which the expansion cuts were made and the lack of sealant application. We assured them that we were in no hurry and that spring would be just fine for us if the weather prevented them from doing the work on October 12. But they assured us the weather was just fine. In the spring, we noticed lots of pock marks and cracks both on the expansion cuts and the open areas. We contacted them as soon as the snow melted. We were told to send pictures of the defects which we did. Per my request, they verified that they had received the photos and would get back to us. After not hearing back from Aurora for a week, I called again and their representative came out, took his own pictures and agreed that there were many defects (pock marks and cracks) on the cement. He said they suspected that their concrete supplier gave them a bad batch and that they were waiting for the results of a sample test. I began calling on average every 2 weeks to find out the progress. In mid-June, we received an email from them stating, “…Our concrete supplier…have taken core samples from a few concrete projects that have experienced similar issues to have tested…” (Hmm..an admission that we were NOT the only customer with these issues). Since then and up until late August, 2019, we called and left messages with them several times but they usually did not return our calls. When we did speak with someone, they said that they were still waiting for the concrete supplier to get the results of the test to determine what was wrong with it. The representative who took the photos told us that the issue would be remedied even if it meant pouring a new driveway but that we just had to wait for the results of the test from the cement supplier. Then in early September, 2019, we were told that there is nothing wrong with the concrete that was poured. Aurora’s representative said that salt probably caused the damage. Really? So, in essence, they were suggesting that we were supposed to clean the salt off of our vehicles all winter long BEFORE driving on our driveway. If salt was indeed the culprit, which is unlikely given the number of concrete driveways that survive in Minnesota for 10 years or more without pock marks, then perhaps they should have put down a sealant as we had asked about originally. Upon learning that they planned to do nothing, we pressed the issue, and they said that the most Aurora was willing to do was to put down Surecrete, which is not industry standard for this situation and will not solve the problem. We have verified this with multiple other concrete companies. And Aurora also said they couldn’t commit to when they could do this. We paid for a new concrete driveway and we wanted it repaired to what a NEW concrete driveway should look like, even if it meant re-pouring. We sent a demand letter by certified mail on September 26, 2019. We feel we have given them plenty of time to respond and remedy their poor workmanship but we have not heard anything from them since the phone call in early September. It was interesting to see so many other very similar complaints on Angie’s List over the past year. Updated 8/14/20: In Spring I received an email from their office. Letting us know we were on the schedule and they would come out once the weather warmed up. I asked when they would be out. I finally got a hold of another guy. My neighbor told me someone came out and took pictures of my driveway. I called Aurora, ended up with him coming out. He was rude to me. Everything I would say he would come back and said, "what do you want me to do? Redo the whole driveway." He said it with sarcasm in his voice. As if there was no way he was going to do that. And how could I expect that. He said he would follow up and never did.

I had a concrete driveway installed by Aurora. When the driveway was finished I noticed large marks in the finish on one side of the driveway where the smoothing/finishing tool had been placed and drawn to the side leaving multiple unfinished areas. I called Aurora’s Customer Service line and asked that someone come out to the property to take a look at the marks and determine a course of action. A week went by and I had not heard from anyone so I called the customer service line again and the Site/Project Manager answered and said he was running behind and would come out that afternoon to take a look. When he came to the house he said the marks were normal. I explained to him that one side of the driveway looks great and the other did not. He said that that it was normal and would wear a way with time. I let him know that I had observed the individual that was doing the smoothing/finishing work talking on their cell phone while doing the work, the site/Project Manager said that was normal as well. I again let him know that I was not happy with the work and that I wanted to speak with his manager as I didn’t appreciate is flippant responses. He replied that he did not have a manager and that he did not report to anyone. I said that everyone reports to somebody and that I would need to speak with them. He then said that if I read my contract that Aurora reserved the right to come and demo the driveway and put a lien on my house. I was very unhappy and confused as to why he went straight to the Demo/Lien option and at being threatened on my own property and especially since at no time had I ever mentioned not paying the balance of what I owed. I was merely looking for a solution to the marks on the driveway and wanted to speak to someone other than him. At this point I began yelling at him and he quickly left the property and he said the district manager would call me. Being concerned that some rogue employee was going to demo my driveway I went and called their customer service line to get a final balance of what I owed, assure them I was going to pay and determine who I could speak with about the marks on the driveway as well as the behavior of their employee. Each time I called it went to voicemail, I left a message. In addition I called and left a message with the original estimator/salesperson as well as sending them an email. I mailed them a check with the final balance due the next morning. I have heard nothing and it has been several days. If your only concern is price and you are willing to gamble that everything will go well with your project than you may want to consider Aurora. They are definitely the cheapest bid you will get. Do yourself a favor though and do not hire them. Just be aware that if you have any issues or you are not satisfied in the least with the work they will not help you and if you persist they will threaten you. In addition they do not care about the safety of their employees if they believe it is normal to be talking on a cell phone while performing work in a hazardous/fluid environment that requires someone’s full attention. I am guessing an organization like OSHA would probably want to weigh in on how “normal” that behavior should be considered.
