+ 0 moreWe had used Handyman Matters once before and were extremely pleased with the level of service we received. So, I called this November to see if I could still get my gutters clean even though it was pretty late in the year (a couple of days before it snowed). I was told that he had a man out doing some gutters at that very moment and when the man returned he'd see if the he was able to do our gutter that day or not, that he would call me back with an answer in an hour or so. A couple hours later I called my husband at home to tell him that I was checking on having Handyman Matters come out and clean the gutters. He told me, yeah I know, they are here right now up on the roof. CAN YOU GET ANY BETTER SERVICE THAN THAT! I DON'T THINK SO. We will definitely use them again. Sandy and Jerry Maki

+ -1 moreOverall, the experience was fantastic with this company. The tasks listed were leftover from another job (not related to this company) and we needed these done asap. I called Mike Sitek based on the reviews at AngiesList. Mike was professional, courteous and prompt, and worked with us to schedule the work as soon as possible. Since the first call and the job date, Mike kept me well informed and replied to all of our questions promptly (same day). Michael G. was the craftsman who came over for the job and was a thorough professional - courteous, patient, answered all our questions and clearly a master at what he does. All of the work was done to a level beyond our satisfaction, Michael left the areas he worked on clean and took a lot of care when working on the doors and the bathroom tile. I highly recommend this company and we will be calling on them for all of our projects.
Description of Work: Cut two wrought iron fuel pipes (exterior and interior), patch driveway area after cutting pipes, replace 5 sets of locks (3 locks + deadbolts, 2 locks only), replace bathroom tile and caulk exterior.

+ 1 moreJim arrived early (he called first) and removed his shoes. He took a look at each of the problems and started on the faucet. That was the most critical of our problems because the old faucet had a broken off handle and we'd been using a pliers to turn it on and off for several days. Replacing the faucet turned out to be more difficult than Jim originally thought but did get it replaced and working well. He then moved on to the light switches where he discovered that all his work was for naught. And again, with the light bulb change. He tried several ways to get up that high, but there was no safe way to do it. Jim spent so much time because of the various problems he encountered, I was afraid the bill was going to be astronomical. But it was extremely reasonable and fair. All in all, we'd have Jim back in a heartbeat and would highly recommend him, and Handyman Matters of Twin Cities.
Description of Work: We called Handyman Matters for three specific problems. 1) to replace a kitchen faucet and sprayer, 2) to get a hall light on a dimmer switch to be able to turn on and off from both the top and the bottom of the hallway. If the light was on and someone turned it off at the bottom of the hall then it could be turned on there. If, however, the light was turned off at the top of the hallway then it could not be turned on at the bottom. A new 3-way dimmer switch and new single 3-way switch were installed. Unfortunately nothing had changed in the working of the light. Our handyman, Jim Carey (not the actor!), was perplexed because logically, his replacements should have been the solution. He was totally befuddled as to why it didn't work and was extremely apologetic because he wasn't able to solve our problem. 3) Replacement of an outdoor floodlight. The light was at the very peak of our house (maybe 20' high) over cement steps, close to overhead wires. Our Handyman was not able to replace the bulb because he didn't have a ladder that could be used on stairs. Again, Jim was very apologetic for not being able to perform the service. (We weren't completely surprised because the last time we had the bulb changed it was by our tree trimmers in a cherry picker!!)

+ -1 moreMike was out and took a look first and then sent an estimate 5 days later. Mike had not done this kind of work before, so he needed some time to figure out what would be required to complete the project. He suggested that we purchase Waste Management bagsters for the waste. The work started roughly a week and a half later. The worker removed the brick and placed in Waste Management Bagsters, one of which was over-filled according to the Waste Management guy who picked them up. We had some brick removed around our chimney and the worker got most of it, however, since we're having new siding put on the house, there was some left after he finished that we had to have removed about a week later. Overall, working with Mike was a pleasure and although this was a first project of this kind for him, he was careful to make sure it could be done and done well. Would recommend his services to anyone and I'll be using him again.
Description of Work: Removed brick on the front of house.

+ 0 moreIt's a delight working with Mike. I am looking for a maintenance person and thought the much needed gutter cleaning would be a good trial project. It was done quickly, on the day promised, and with thorough explanations and suggestions. Mike obviously knows what he's doing, and makes the client feel as if they are the only one he's working with. His communication skills are excellent and he responds in a timely manner. My projects have been ones related to the garage/outside area, so I've never been home when they're being done, but I come home to find the area immaculate and the work completed.
Description of Work: Cleaned gutters on house and garage, removed broken gutter on garage, placed Tru Flo material in gutters to keep them clean. As a bonus, made back fence gate easier to open (no charge).

+ 1 moreThe work was started on time and completed on schedule. The worker (John, I think) was professional, polite, and listened to what I wanted to have done. He made several good suggestions on how to accomplish what I needed. He didn't waste time, didn't make an unecessary mess, and cleaned up after himself. I expect to be using this firm again for similar work.
Description of Work: I recently had some medical issues that required me to make some modifications to my home. Handyman Matters did a number of small jobs for me: Replaced a small set of steps leading to an outdoor deck. Replaced a step into a garage and added a handrail. Installed a safety grab bar in a bathroom. Changed 2 shower heads to hand-held showers Built a wooden platform for a chair (to raise the chair up and make it easier to get in and out of) Took care of several small household tasks that I am not physically able to do (changing batteries in smoke detectors on a vaulted ceiling, cleaning out a dryer vent, etc.)

Description of Work: I highly recommend Handyman Matters of the Twin Cities. Mike, the owner, was very easy and pleasant to deal with. Being new homeowners, we had some work we needed done on our new home. Our storm door was a bear to install and our door (exterior) would just not close... awesome. So not only the the contractor come out and take a look at all the work we needed to get done, he also explained all the things we needed to do before he could really finish everything. He explained everything and we were able to finish our side of the project for him to come back out and finish his side. The work was clean and professional and I really enjoyed my entire experience! I would highly recommend them!

+ 3 moreI am truly impressed by the service that is provided by Handyman Matters. They do what they say they are going to do. No surprises and Mike Garcia is one of the best.
Description of Work: This is the second time that I have used their services and it was another great experience. I was taking off wall paper from a bathroom and could not reach behind the toilet tank so had them come out and remove the tank on a Monday and than Mike Garcia came and put it back on the following Thursday. In addition he secured an outside light on to my house and cleaned out a gutter I could not reach. I had Mike Garcia the first time and I cannot say enough good things about him. He calls before he comes over and always shows up when he says he will. Takes his shoes off when entering the house. Very pleasant personality. He can fix anything and he does it quickly. The charges for what they do are extremely reasonable. Great service and real value for what I paid.

Description of Work: They fixed some windows because some squirrels had been jumping from my sills to a birdfeeder and leaving scuffs on it. The work included two or three windows. They took off the old sills, put on new ones and repainted.

I waited around the whole day, no one ever showed up, or even called to cancel. At about 3:30 that afternoon, I called to see if I still needed to wait around any longer. No one answered the phone, so I left a message with my name and phone number to have someone call me. No one ever returned my call.

They were prompt in coming out to give us the estimate, although I did have to call them to have them email us the proposal. We chose another company that offered to get the door themselves, unlike Handyman Matters, who would have had us pick up the door on our own.
