Excellent!
Description of Work: This was a complete rebuild of the exterior to include all new windows and doors, siding, roofing, and gutters. It’s been almost 5 years and the house still looks great ! I emailed Nate at TCS today as one of the side vents cracked and the damper came out of it. I wanted to replace it with the exact same one but couldn’t find them anywhere so I asked Nate. Within minutes he responded and said he had one on hand for me. Continued excellent customer service even after almost 5 years! Now that says something...... :)

Fantastic. From the sales process through to painting touch-up and the back office it was really a pleasure to work with TCSP. Friendly, knowledgeable, responsive, conscientious, etc.... The workmanship was very good, and when there was a small issue with some of the flashing, it was fixed as soon as weather permitted without a reminder call from us. You can not go wrong working with TCSP's.
Description of Work: TCSP replaced our siding and gutters after hail damage. We replaced vinyl with Hardi Plank.

Very responsive and detail-oriented. Curt was an excellent project manager -- he re-did things if they weren't absolutely perfect. For example, when they re-did the cinderblock to cover up the area where the door was removed the first time, it sagged a bit as it was drying. It wasn't that noticeable, but he insisted that they re-do it so it was as perfect as it could be (without charging us any extra, of course). They went above and beyond the call of duty and ended up painting some areas of the exterior that had been damaged in a hail storm simply because they had the paint out and were up there. They noticed things we did not and fixed them. They didn't push sales on us and simply told us the potential risks of the issues and let us determine if we should have them fix it or not. I feel completely confident in their work and their integrity.
Description of Work: replaced rotting soffit (exchanged wood for hardieplank) so that woodpeckers would not damage it again. removed a door from a bedroom and installed a window in its place. fixed roofing in some areas and did some chimney flashing work.

Initially we had a good impression of our salesmen, Ted. However, once we had committed to working with TCS, he became much less responsive. He stood us up on two occasions. The second time, he was late to meet us, but called and said he would pick up our paperwork within minutes after we left for work. Instead, our application material ? a packet that included a $2,000.00 check, our social security numbers, and our credit card numbers ? was left sitting on our front porch for over 8 hours. We were very upset by this, particularly considering TCS?s main office is less than a five minute drive from our house. We nearly canceled our agreement at this point but stuck with it because of the time we'd already invested. Ted had also assured us on multiple occasions that barring any unforeseen costs (eg. rotting behind the siding) the estimate was generous and we could count on a refund at the end of the project. Next, we were put in touch with Kurt, the project manager, who was very professional. Kurt informed us in our first meeting with him two things that Ted had failed to mention: that the corner-boards didn't come in the color of siding we'd ordered so we'd have to pay $350 to have them painted AND that the gutters were not available in the color to match the siding. We chose the closest gutter colors TCS offered, and Kurt agreed that his team would paint the corner boards at no additional cost. After setting a date for the project, we were told to expect about one week of work. Kurt then called to say it was delayed because the subcontractor was unavailable, so the start date was pushed back. When the project finally started, the crew worked for only a few hours before Kurt informed us he was going to have to fire the subcontractors. That same night we saw that roof boards had been damaged by the crew?s work. These were later fixed by Kurt?s in-house crew, which was a much better group. Through Kurt we requested that TCS provide a discount or, at least have the corner- boards painted at no cost. This request was refused. So Kurt agreed to paint the corner-boards for us at no cost which was unfortunate because it wasn?t his or his crew?s fault. We ultimately ended up having to pay more than we?d originally contracted for. But more of a concern than the money was the extremely delayed project that left our house and yard a mess for over a month AND the poor post-sale customer service of Ted AND the simple fact that the end product was not what we?d expected. We would be happy to work with Kurt and his crew again independently, but overall would not recommend TCS to anyone.
Description of Work: Replaced siding on the gables and dormers. Replaced gutters. Wrapped a few windows.

Response from Twin Cities Siding & Roofing
This member’s main complaint is about the sales rep Ted. Ted is no longer employed by our company but wrote a two page response to this complaint. Ted maintains that he did not miss two appointments as they have stated. In fact, he met with them on three different occasions, including one time at our office before they decided to hire our company. When the client called Ted about picking up their paperwork on the next day, they wanted him to be at their house before 7:30 am. He informed them that he could not arrive until later in the afternoon because of his schedule and would be happy to meet them that afternoon. They then left Ted a message later that morning saying they had left the paperwork inside their front door for Ted to pick it up. Ted arrived as soon as he could to pick up the paperwork. Regarding the promise of a refund at the end of the project, we do not have “generous” estimates and give refunds at the end of projects. I have never heard of any contractor doing that in my 20+ years in this industry. Contracting is a highly competitive business and our prices have to come in as competitive as possible. Ted is absolutely emphatic that he never said any such thing, and we have never once done this in all of our years in business. We give our customers extremely detailed proposals. In fact, they are more detailed than any I have ever seen from my competition. We do this to mitigate misunderstandings. It is written twice in this client’s proposal that certain trim colors are not available pre-finished from James Hardie. It is stated very clearly in our proposal that if a customer chooses a trim color not available, that we will finish the trim in that color in our warehouse for an additional charge. It is also reiterated in our proposal when we sit down with our potential customers, and it is again referred to in the work order that this client signed off on. When Curt showed the member the various places in their proposal that details what trim colors are available in ColorPlus, they were unhappy even though they realized that they had been informed. Curt called me and I agreed to waive the extra fee in order to keep the peace. We have 35 employees who do the vast majority of our work, but we do have some work subcontracted out for overflow. This particular sub crew, who had worked for us in the past and actually does most of their work for a chief competitor, was not performing to our exacting standards, and Curt rightfully let them go. We then brought in our in-house crew and properly completed the project. At the end of the project, Curt himself inspected the grounds to make certain everything was cleaned to our exacting standards. He has written a one page response on this and has no idea why this client would say that we left a mess. He writes, “After everything was taken care of I asked how they felt about their project and they said everything was good, and I repeatedly asked them that question and they told me the same thing every time.” We pride ourselves on our workmanship, quality, communication, and commitment to bettering the industry. It has been years since we have had a negative report or comment from any of our customers. The vast majority of our customers are thrilled with the value they receive when they hire our company. While we dispute many of the allegations in this member’s report, the fact remains that they are unhappy and that hurts all 35 employees in our company. We all take great pride in the services we offer to our customers. People like Curt and Josh and all the guys on the crew that this customer recommends are long tenured employees that care about how we are perceived. This is not just a job to our employees; it is their career.

The salesperson was very thorough, going through all of the things that would be done, common problems they might find when pulling off old siding, and how they resolve them, etc. The siding team showed up on time-it took about 8 days to do approx 3,000 SF of siding work. For comparison: other siding teams in the neighborhood took a max of two days (perhaps vinyl siding is quicker to install). I didn't mind the time-the team seemed to be very deliberate and quality conscious. They even removed my soffits to make sure I didn't accidentally fill them up with insulation from a do-it-myself job a few years back. Did not charge me for checking on that. The team was great-a bunch of nice guys who enjoy their work. Clean up was good.
Description of Work: They re-sided my entire house in James Hardie siding. I had aluminum that was damaged by a hail storm and didn't want to have to deal with hail damage again in the future. I shopped around with other siding companies and got a huge range in pricing, but it appeared that very few of the other siding companies have significant experience with James Hardie siding installation. Twin Cities Siding Pros specialize in James Hardie. You pay a fair amount more than other siding companies, but in return I got peace of mind that the job was being done right, and that workers were getting a fair wage. I ended up using 6" Hardie board with wood grain finish in red (neighborhood needed a bit of color). The house looks great! A huge improvement over the old aluminum siding.

The crew did a great job on the siding. I love how my house looks. It was a fantastic experience! We contacted companies who claimed to have installed James Hardie before. These days, there is an abundance of folks who are looking for remodeling work. We settled on TCSP because their company installs only James Hardie siding. Even though their price was a little higher, we were confident they knew what they were doing and we wanted the job done right. It was a good decision. The installation crew showed up on time. They were knowledgeable and confident. They worked as a team, with no wasted motion. They were polite and when they left the site, the clean up was incredible. There was not a single item on the punch list. They even gave me a $200 credit for a window opening we eliminated, even though I had not asked for it. I have dealt with a lot of contractors in my lifetime, and the employees of TCSP are among the most caring and competent people I have ever experienced. I would do business with them again in a heartbeat.

Start to finish, the best contractor we have worked with. Period. We talked to four contractors. Chad from TCSP, was the last one, and provided a complete proposal, including pictures, that described exactly how TCSP would do the job. We had confidence that the investment we were making in James Hardie siding was right, with this contractor. TCSP provided options, and we had some unusual stuff (like brick to remove, a front door treatment, etc.) that they easily incorporated in the bid (others just wanted to sell siding, and not worry about the details that fit in with the project). The job was scheduled shortly thereafter, and in mid-February the job began. Nate was our field supervisor, and he met with us at the beginning and at appropriate times thereafter to make sure our needs were met. TJ was in charge of the fantastic crew that were assigned to do the job. I am extremely satisfied with how things look; they worked hard and did so in a highly professional manner. GREAT!
Description of Work: TCSP removed all of my old siding from the entire house and also tore off some brick from the front of my 1959 two story home and garage and replaced it with 5 inch Hardiplank, Azek, and aluminum window wrap on some windows, all as agreed. They also designed a special front door treatment and developed a great solution to hide my air conditioner lines that go all the way up the side of my house. They did all of the little things too, put up lights, shutters, reinstalled gutters, too. All in a way that was top notch.

MY WIFE AND I HAVE MANAGED OUR BUSINESS FOR FOURTEEN YEARS AND HAVE COMPLETED OVER TWO THOUSAND PROJECTS IN THAT TIME. I called three contractors to get quotes on my project. Terry at Twin Cities Siding Professionals was the only one who did not show up late or reschedule. Terry took the time to explain the technical background for doing a project like mine. The other contractors just mailed me a bid. The project went exactly as Terry said it would. Everyone that I dealt with at the company were so easy to work with and so professional. The house looks great and I am so happy. I would recommend these guys to all of my friends and family.

We met with the project consultant to discuss our needs. He was very professional and knowledgeable on the James Hardie product and installation process. He did an excellent job addressing all our questions and concerns. The bid response was priced using the Good, Better, Best approach. Even with the price on the Good approach (referenced in the project cost above), it was significantly higher than their competitor best bid. Although we felt we would have no problem doing business with TCS, they were cost prohibitive.

WHILE I APPRECIATE THE MEMBER GIVING INFORMATION TO ANGIE’S LIST SUBSCRIBERS, I WOULD LIKE TO RESPOND TO HER COMMENTS, BECAUSE IT MAY GIVE PEOPLE THE IMPRESSION THAT WE ARE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OUR COMPETITORS. A CAREFUL REVIEWING OF THE YELLOW PAGES WILL LET YOU KNOW THERE ARE MORE THAN 100 SIDING COMPANIES OUT THERE COMPETING FOR YOUR BUSINESS. WE HAVE TO BE COMPETITIVE OR WE WOULD NOT SURVIVE FOR A VERY LONG TIME – AND WE HAVE BEEN AROUND SINCE 1995. WHEN THERE IS A SUBSTANTIAL DIFFERENCE IN PRICE BETWEEN OUR PROPOSAL AND ANOTHER COMPANY’S BID, IT IS ALWAYS BECAUSE OF A SUBSTANTIAL DIFFERENCE IN THE SCOPE OF WORK. IT IS EASY TO SKIP STEPS, USE CHEAP MATERIALS AND DAY LABORERS, OPERATE WITH MINIMAL OR NO INSURANCE AND NOT FOLLOW THE MANUFACTURER’S PUBLISHED REQUIREMENTS FOR PROPER INSTALLATION OF BUILDING MATERIALS. THOSE COMPANIES THAT FOLLOW BEST PRACTICES GUIDELINES ARE ALWAYS HIGHER IN PRICE - IT IS ALWAYS QUICKER AND CHEAPER TO DO A JOB THE WRONG WAY. THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO INSTALL BUILDING PRODUCTS AND THAT IS THE WAY THE MANUFACTURERS SPECIFY IN THEIR PUBLISHED GUIDELINES -- AND THAT IS THE ONLY WAY TWIN CITIES SIDING PROFESSIONALS INSTALLS ALL OF ITS PRODUCT LINES. THIS WAY, OUR CUSTOMERS HAVE THE PEACE OF MIND THAT THEY ARE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER’S WARRANTY. IMPROPER INSTALLATION OF BUILDING MATERIALS IS FAR AND AWAY THE NUMBER ONE REASON WHY BUILDING PRODUCTS FAIL. HOMEOWNERS ARE TOO OFTEN LEFT WITH EXPENSES IN THE FUTURE THAT THEY ARE NOT PREPARED FOR.

Dave Brown supervised two Russian workers who made up for their poor language skills with an amazing work ethic. They worked hard and long hours through the winter weather. Once the pre-primed siding, fascia and soffits were in place, work stopped until spring when an excellent painter subcontractor, Nick, applied the two coats of paint. We were pleased with all the work except for the gutters and downspouts put on by another subcontractor. We do have an odd roof line, but the gutter application couldn't pass inspection. Dave had them return several times to make needed changes, but they didn't return when expected and were very reluctant. It's better, but my husband finally decided he'd finish that part himself. Other than the gutters, we were delighted with their products and work.
Description of Work: Installed Hardie Shingleside to three gables on house and garage to match current proportion on lakeside gable, installed HardiPlank on rest of house and garage,an Azek skirt board around permimeter, plus put on HardiTrim for fascia and HardiSoffits. Work included tear-off of old siding, building permit, Weather Wrap, dumpster rental, flashing, caulking, and two coats of paint in spring when weather permitted (siding came pre-primed).

TCSP gave us the most thorough estimate and carefully laid out the work that was to be done. We were concerned about keeping the look of the house true to its original 1915 bungalow look and Terry made many good suggestions to help with that. The color consultant he recommended was excellent! The crew that worked on the siding and the painting were both good. They worked long days to get the job done. Some of the little finishing work took a little longer then we would have liked but everyone was very responsive to our requests. Ann in the front office was great! The price was higher then what it would have been with vinyl siding but we are very happy we went with this product.

In evaluating potential siding contractors, I received several bids to side my house. I evaluated the bids across several factors, including price, professionalism, responsiveness, and thoroughness. This was a major investment in my house, so I evaluate the bids from each company very carefully. In the end, I was convinced that Twin Cities Siding Professionals offered the strongest bid based on the thoroughness of their estimate, professionalism in which the conducted our discussions, and the trust that I felt in employing them to protect my greatest investment. Twin Cities Siding Professionals started and finished the job within the timing discussed and were always courteous and available for questions throughout the process. The workers treated my house and lawn with respect, and left my property in immaculate condition each day they were working on my house. The job looks fantastic. I highly recommend Twin Cities Siding Professionals.

HARDIPLANK IS A FANTASTIC PRODUCT. THE OWNER TERRY CAME OUT A COUPLE TIMES TO HELP RESOLVE CHALLENGES OF THE PROJECT - HE'S A GREAT GUY. OVERALL EMPLOYEES WERE FRIENDLY, PROFESSIONAL AND TOOK CARE OF PROBLEMS THAT CAME TO LIGHT. A COUPLE OF THE SEVERAL EMPLOYEES THAT SHOWED UP DID CRAPPY WORK AND FLAT OUT IGNORED OUR CONCERNS. MOST OF THE PROBLEMS WERE COMPLETELY AVOIDABLE. THEY LEFT A HUGE MESS OF SHAVINGS IN THE GRASS, THAT TOOK HOURS FOR ME TO CLEAN UP, THEY DID SOME SERIOUS DAMAGE TO OUR EXISTING PROPERTY, THAT THEY PAID TO HAVE REPAIRED. THEY TRIED TO CHARGE US TWICE FOR PART OF THE PROJECT. THEY OVERLOOKED HOW THE MOLDING LOOKED ON THE EXISTING WINDOWS TO MATCH WITH THE NEW ONES.

THIS PROJECT WAS CHALLENGING, AS WE WERE ONE OF MANY CONTRACTORS DOING WORK ON THIS PROPERTY SIMULTANEOUSLY. THIS JOB WAS DONE IN JANUARY OF 2005 WITH A LOT OF SNOW ON THE GROUND. EACH OF THE CONTRACTORS HAD A PART IN THE SHAVINGS DISCOVERED IN THE GRASS COME SPRING. IT IS HARD TO DO THOROUGH CLEAN UP IN THE WINTER AS THE SNOW MAKES SEEING AND SWEEPING UP A MESS IMPOSSIBLE. WE DID HAVE TWO CREWS ON THE JOB AT DIFFERENT TIMES. WE HAD TO PULL OFF AS THE FRAMING CONTRACTOR WAS NOT DONE AND WE COULD NOT CONTINUE INSTALLING. OUR COMPANY DID SCRATCH A STONE CAP, AND WE DID CLEAN IT AT OUR COST. I THINK HE WAS CORRECT THAT ONE OF OUR EMPLOYEES WAS NOT AS CONCERNED AS HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT THE SCRATCH. BILLING HIM TWICE FOR PART OF THE PROJECT HAD TO DO WITH THE BUILDING PERMIT. THE CUSTOMER TOLD US HE HAD PULLED THE PERMIT SINCE HE WAS THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR FOR HIS HOUSE, SO WE DID NOT INCLUDE IT IN OUR BID. WHEN WE CALLED FOR THE INSPECTION AFTER INSTALL, THE CITY TOLD US HE HAD NOT PULLED THE PERMIT FOR THE SIDING. THEY REQUIRED US TO PULL IT AND BILL HIM. WE INFORMED HIM OF THIS AND HE CLAIMED THAT HE DID IN FACT PULL THE PERMIT FOR THE SIDING PORTION OF HIS PROJECT. HE WORKED IT OUT WITH THE CITY DIRECTLY. REGARDING THE MOULDING ON THE WINDOWS, OUR COMPANY DID NOT TOUCH ANY MOULDING OR WINDOWS ON HIS HOUSE. HE MUST HAVE GOTTEN US CONFUSED WITH ONE OF THE OTHER CONTRACTORS ON THE PROPERTY. THIS REVIEW WAS WRITTEN ALMOST ONE YEAR AFTER THE SIDING WAS INSTALLED.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. THE OWNER CLAIMS THAT HIS WORKERS ARE PROFESSIONALS WHEN IN REALITY THEY ARE JUST KIDS WORKING A SUMMER JOB BEING PAID FAR LESS THAN A SKILLED WORKER WOULD BE. WE MADE A HUGE MISTAKE HIRING THIS COMPANY IT COST US TWO YEARS OF EXCESSIVE WEAR ON OUR HOME A LOT OF GRIEF AND AGGRAVATION. OUR HOME STILL DOESN'T LOOK RIGHT AND WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO BE REDONE DOWN THE ROAD. WE FEEL LIKE WE HAVE BEEN CHEATED BY THIS COMPANY.
Description of Work: HIRED THIS COMPANY TO INSTALL HARDIE SOFFITS, FACIA AND SIDING TO OUR 1920'S HOME IN 2003. CREW WAS VERY INEXPERIENCED AND DID NOT INSTALL PRODUCT PROPERLY. WE HAD TO HAVE THEM COME BACK IN 2004 AND DO IT AGAIN. OWNER OF THE COMPANY DID NOT WANT TO REDO THE WORK AND TRIED TO DO A CHEAP FIX. WE DEMANDED THAT IT BE DONE RIGHT. IN THE PROCESS OF ALL THIS THE CREW DID $4300.00 OF DAMAGE TO MY 2 YEAR OLD ROOF. THE OWNER TOOK NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIS INEXPERIENCED CREW SPENDING ALL OF HIS TIME AT MORE PROFITABLE JOBS. WE EVENTUALLY GOT SICK OF DEALING WITH HIM AND WENT TO ARBITRATION WITH THE BBB AND WAS AWARDED SOME OF OUR DAMAGES.

THIS CUSTOMER COMPLAINED ABOUT THE AESTHETIC APPEARANCE OF THE JAMES HARDIE SOFFIT AND FASCIA SYSTEM INSTALLED ON HER HOME IN 2003. WHILE TECHNICALLY INSTALLED CORRECTLY, SHE DID NOT LIKE THE APPEARANCE, SO WE AGREED TO REPLACE THE FASCIA AT NO COST TO HER. WE SENT A CREW OUT WITH THE JAMES HARDIE INSTALLATION SPECIALIST FOR THIS REGION. WE ATTEMPTED TO USE A 50 YEAR WARRANTIED PRODUCT THAT WAS THINNER AND EXPLAINED TO THE CUSTOMER WHY THIS PRODUCT WAS SUPERIOR. INSTEAD, SHE WANTED A 25 YEAR WARRANTIED PRODUCT; WE COMPLIED. WE ACTUALLY SUGGESTED BBB ARBITRATION WHEN SHE CALLED ONE YEAR LATER AND WAS STILL UNHAPPY. THIS REVIEW WAS WRITTEN AFTER SHE WAS NOT AWARDED HER FULL CLAIM IN ARBITRATION. OUR COMPANY STRIVES TO EXCEED EACH OF OUR CUSTOMER'S EXPECTATIONS. UNFORTUNATELY, AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS THIS CUSTOMER COULD NOT BE SATISFIED.

TERRY WAS VERY RESPONSIVE; THE CREW WERE VERY DETAIL ORIENTED (MY OLD HOUSE IS FAR FROM LEVEL AND THEY WORKED TIRELESSLY TO MAKE IT APPEAR AS IF IT WERE). IT WAS A BIG JOB AND I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND TERRY AND HIS COMPANY FOR THEIR PROFESSIONALISM AND CRAFTSMANSHIP.

VERY GOOD COMPANY AND CREW TO WORK WITH. WORK AT A VERY STEADY PACE AND TAKE THEIR TIME TO DO THE JOB RIGHT. THEY PLANNED ON THE JOB TAKING THREE WEEKS AND THAT IS EXACTLY HOW LONG IT TOOK. ALWAYS OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS AND REQUESTS FOR CHANGES NEEDED DURING THE JOB. ACTULLY ENJOYED HAVING THE CREW AROUND FOR THREE WEEKS.
Description of Work: REMOVED OLD SIDING, INSTALLED JAMES HARDIE HARDIPLANK AND SHINGLESIDE SIDING, INSTALLED CULTURED ROCK ON FRONT OF HOUSE
