Just fine overall, but their price was too high compared to other bidders.
Description of Work: We sought an estimate for James Hardie siding to replace our old cedar siding. Everything was handled very professionally, but their price was about $1500 higher than the next highest bidder and more than $3000 higher than my low bidder -- for exactly the same job. I simply could not justify such a large price difference.

Twin Cities Siding Professionals did a fabulous job re-siding my garage with Hardie Plank. They arrived when they said they would, worked diligently while they were here, communicated in advance if there were an questions or delays. They were immediately responsive to any questions or concerns I had. The installation was professional, and the garage looks great. The cleanup at the end of the day was remarkable. My garage had old wooden siding with significant peeling paint (which tested positive for lead) that flaked off on contact. Even with good tarping, removal of the old siding left paint flakes and chips. Since my backyard is all mulched, clean up was not easy, but the crew worked diligently to get all the paint up. I would unhesitatingly recommend Twin Cities Siding Professionals.
Description of Work: Re-siding of 1 1/2 car garage, including removal of old wood siding and trim.
We are very happy with the work we had completed by Twin Cities Siding. We used almost every service they offer and are very satisfied with all of the work completed. We originally asked them to bid on siding and roof replacement. We also asked for a bid on adding a screen or multi-season porch and deck. They really listened to what we wanted and came back with a bid that made our dream of adding a family room feasible. Once we agreed to work with them on the siding and roofing we also asked for bids on insulation and window replacement. Every bid was competitive and fair. This was a long project and we worked with many folks from the company. Every employee was extremely professional and made it easy to welcome them into our home for many weeks. We had very regular updates from and communication with our project manager throughout the project. Given the scope of the work and the number of players involved, there were some bumps along the way (like the window company sending all of the windows backwards), but every challenge was met head on and handled quickly, which rates very high with us. Overall, we got everything we dreamed of for our home within our budget. We would definitely recommend Twin Cities Siding to family and friends.

I did have a rep come out to give us an estimate. Our experience with the rep was less than impressive. On a much more positive note. The owner of the company gave me a call to see what had transpired. We had a very good conversation that impressed me a great deal. We did not end up using Twin Cities Siding but I would still recommend them based on the integrity of the owner.

Once the materials were received, the project was completed quickly and expertly. A very positive experience!
Description of Work: Removed wooden decking, railing, and support beams from a front porch, and replaced with Timbertech composite decking and new wrapped support beams. The existing decking, etc., had been cheaply and poorly installed, and did not match the character of the rest of the house. Working with Nate, we came up with a plan to update and upgrade the look of the front porch. While the use of composites added to the cost of the project, every penny spent was worth it in terms of the final product. Instead of skinny and nondescript 4x4 timber posts, we now have 6x6 support posts that are wrapped with Fypon, making them looking substantial in size and character. It changed the whole look of the front of the house, and we have received many favorable comments from the neighbors. The new decking was seemlessly installed, with all required drip edges wrapped, etc., into the existing siding.

Starting with the salesman they sent for the estimate through the end of the job these guys were great. They were not the cheapest but they seemed more knowledgable and I felt better after talking to them than any of the other 4 companies I got bids from. When he came for the bid he explained everything they would do and what it could cost. Also, he did not spend time putting the other contractors down like they other companies had which was nice and something I appreciate. They were patient as I took some time to review all of the bids. Once I chose them, the guys who were going to be in charge of the job came over to make sure they understood what the the order said I wanted. The crew showed up to do the work and they were not too loud and got to work quickly. I told them there were a lot of kids in the neighborhood and I was concerned over them getting into the work area when the crew wasnt there. The crew was very good about securing their tools and scaffolds so the kids could not mess around with them and the work area was cleaned up each night. The former owners of my house had just tacked the cable lines on the outside of the old siding. The TCSP crew took the time to hide the cable along the bottom of the siding which made it look much better. Work progressed quickly and they completed my 2 story house in two weeks despite rain slowing them down a few days. The supervisor on the job was great, he kept me informed on what was going on and walked down the entire project with me once it was done to make sure I was completely happy. I have some windows to replace next year and you can be sure I will use these guys again.
Description of Work: They removed my old masonite siding, put up a vapor barrier, installed Hardy siding on the whole house, painted the trim and soffits, and installed gutters on the front and back of the house. They also removed my old outside light fixtures and put on new ones I had purchased.

I had a great experience with this company but did not use them do to the price of the product was outside of my budget. The company was very responsive in returning my phone call. They had both the ability to request an appointment online and by phone. The company was also very good in sending out material immediately upon contact to help educate the consumer on hiring contractors, how the process works and sample addresses to go look at work they have already performed. I made an appointment and the first appointment was more for information gathering on what I wanted and ideas. The sales person was very professional. Prompt to the appointment and nicely dressed and polite. He took pictures of the house and took measurements. I made another appointment several days later to have him come back to go over the expected work process, materials and cost. It was very detailed, gave several different options for product packages that were at different cost points and more information on what to expect during the process. It was extremely helpful and informative. I would have loved to hire this company but I did not have enough in my budget to use them.

We had Twin Cities Siding Professionals install James Hardie siding this past winter and it was the most fantastic experience we have ever had with a contractor. From the initial presentation to the completion of installation, everything went smoothly. They showed up on time, every day, even though the project was done in the middle of winter. The finished product looks great, and I love the colors I chose (with the help of their staff - they will help with colors and design, a nice bonus). I read some of the other reports; it looks like this company has many admirers like myself. I completely disagree with the guy that said he didn?t like their sales presentation. I also had multiple bids from James Hardie installers, and I found T.C. Siding Professionals bid to be by far the most informative. No one else took the time to sit down with both me and my husband for the time it took to properly explain the project. Others either gave me a bid handwritten on a piece of paper with a couple of boxes checked (what a joke!) or mailed a bid that was vague and lacking detail. I would never spend this kind of money without being able to sit down with my contractor face to face and get all my questions answered. When I called to ask clarifying questions on the vague bids, I found out one contractor hadn?t included some necessary items and was going to charge me extra for them, and the other contractor said they would just match T.C. Siding's job for their price. What? I thought - I don?t want a contractor to simply ?match? their competition?s job, I want someone competent enough to have bid on the appropriate job in the first place. Twin Cities Siding Professionals was the most expensive bid, but not by much, and they are SO worth the extra money. Spend it, you will not be disappointed. They are light years ahead of their competition in terms of knowledge of the product and proper installation techniques. And believe me, I asked enough questions of all of them to see the difference. They don?t just have a great sales presentation; it is backed by exceptional work in the field. They really do deliver what they promise, which I have found to be a rarity in this industry.

My wife and I have never had a worse experience with a contractor while attempting to obtain an honest estimate for service. Our first meeting with the salesperson with Twin Cities Siding Professionals was prompt and informative. The sales process required a second sit-down meeting to obtain an estimate; this is where we were very disappointed. The presentation began with a binder of information and photos. The first photo presented to us was of a competitor's sign in the front yard of a project. The following many photos were of James Hardie installed incorrectly. None of the photos following that first photo appeared to be of their competitors? project. Instead the salesperson implied that the competition was doing "shot" work. We were so turned off at this point; I tried to hurry the meeting along, to little success. We finally were delivered an estimate for the project, over $12,000 higher than our next lowest James Hardie-only installer. This is when the hard-sell began, $1000 off for this or that, money if we signed on the spot and so on. This was a manipulative and deceitful process. Think twice when given this presentation, pay attention to the assertion that the competition's work is reflected in their presentation - we went with that competitor and had a fantastic experience.

Response from Twin Cities Siding & Roofing
We have used the Certified Contractors Network method for presenting proposals for the last five years. This method, called the 4P, is used by hundreds of contractors across North America. It is designed to impart knowledge to buyers so that they can make informed decisions. Most people are unaware of how a remodeling project is put together. The average homeowner has to rely on the expertise of the remodeler and is often confused by terminology, technical jargon, and the construction process. The 4P system educates homeowners so that the decision is not as daunting. Before using this process, our customer satisfaction ratings were very good. Now, however, they are excellent. A third party company, Guild Quality, has ranked us nationally as the one of the best contractors in the nation. I am truly sorry that this member felt that our process was deceitful. We get many compliments from our clients about how informative our process is and how comfortable it made them feel. (You can check it out for yourself at GuildQuality.com) We do not have major price drops to book on the spot. We do have various ways people can save money depending on how they plan to pay for the project, if they want contractor insurance, and if they feel a change in the scope of work is necessary. Those that take specifications out of the project will get a decrease in price. We also have coupons with expiration dates as do most other businesses across the marketplace. We do show pictures of bad workmanship and the resulting out-of-pocket issues that homeowners have to face. Defective workmanship causes 99% of all construction product failures according to the American Institute of Architects. The Small Business Administration states that 96% of all contractors fail. If someone hires a contractor, there is only a 4% chance that contractor will be in business to take care of any future warranty issues. Many prospects we meet with have seen or heard of Hardie failing and are concerned about the longevity of the product. Our competition also shows pictures of failing Hardie – and falsely blames it on the product. Our pictures demonstrate to clients that it is not the product’s fault, but that of the installation, that led to the product failure. This is not to “slam” our competition, but to prove that Hardie is a good product if properly installed. This has alleviated product concerns for many people, and has helped them feel comfortable with their product choice. I am happy that Angie’s List is around as a public forum so that homeowners can air their grievances and applaud contractors who have done a good job for them. This has led to better service for homeowners. I also appreciate that Angie’s List allows contractors to be able to give their side of the story and allow discriminating homeowners make their own judgments.

The estimation process was thorough and very professional. While Twin Cities Siding probably charges more than some competitors, the extra cost is more than worth it due to the excellent and fair service, and the high level of expertise, including with respect to James Hardie siding. The crew were friendly and respectful, and did a great job of cleaning up.
Description of Work: We have James Hardie siding that is approximately 5 years old that was installed incorrectly and was starting to deteriorate in places. Teri and Nate thoroughly diagnosed all of the problems and developed solutions to repair and replace the siding, as appropriate. In the Spring, they will return to paint the house in order to complete the repair and remove the stripes caused by improper caulking of the butt seams that have now been fixed.

GREAT! I called and left messages with a few places. This was the only company that called me back. I indicated it was a really small job, but we needed it done. The office lady went the extra mile to get a worker to stop by and see if they could help. They were great to work with. They tried to save/salvage a loose piece that had been blown off and saved (to save us money), but unfortunately it didn't work. They did the work on time and at the price quoted. The worker broke a flower pot of mine and we settled by just reducing the invoice. Very professional about the whole thing. Will hire them again if needed and will not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

Terry and his crew did an excellent job on this project from beginning to end. We were very happy with the product and installation/clean up. Most notable was the effort put forth by Terry to get this project done right. This was an insurance claim from storm damage. We realized Terry was not in the business of fighting with insurance companies, but his efforts in doing so helped us to get our damaged windows covered. We felt he was ethical, fair and persistent in dealing with the insurance company. I don't know what we would have done without him. Once again, he proved himself to be a contractor who reallly cares about his clients and the work that he does for them.

Excellent! All the TCPS people were exceedingly helpful, cooperative and did their jobs in a very professional manner. Everyone, and I mean everyone, from the managements team including Terry Stamman, Kristen Stamman and Dave Brown., to the on-site workers including Curt Dingman, foreman and all his crew, to Ann in the office contributed to the over-all success of the project. Special accolades should go to curt. He is a very skilled worker. He worked with me throughout the job, kept me informed with their schedule, ans asked questions/ my opinion and desires as they came up. We had a good relationship, I was especially impressed with hoe they came to work everyday, start at 7:00 AM, broke for lunch at 11:30 AM, and cleaned up every night before leaving for the day. Very professional in the beginning when I was getting bids for the job I discussed with Terry the home remodeling industrial reputation ( it's negative) but this company really stands out. They were responsive to all our questions and requests. We are completely satisfied. I would hardily recommend them to anyone considering redesigning their home.

We heard about the company through an open house by the company. We discussed the cost and work between ourselves and after a week called to get an estimate, look at samples, etc. A company representative was sent out, gave us the prices and what work needed to be done. He also took photos and showed us which areas were problematic with our current situation. He did not pressure us to purchase, told us to get other estimates if we would like, then left, Called us back after a couple weeks to ask us our decision. We had tentatively decided to go with them and he came back with a proposal, spent several hours with us to go over what the work would consist of, etc. and what our final costs and responsibilities would be. We were given a detailed notebook of the work, expectations, costs, etc. We really appreciated this as well as the photos of what the house needed and what it would look like afterwards with the colors-siding and trim that we had chosen. They were able to come a week before the original schedule, which suited us, just fine. While here, they cleaned up behind themselves each day, had all of their materials and tools with them so the work was efficiently completed. The siding and all supplies were here when needed. The work went very smoothly and we were very pleased with how everything turned out plus really appreciated their cleaning up very well on a regular basis.

Before our job began, Terry helped us with the color choosing process by telling us where we could see the various colors actually on some houses. Because of that, we were able to make a choice we knew for sure we'd be happy with. Terry and his crew worked on our home during some of the coldest/snowiest weather and still did outstanding work. They always showed up exactly when they said they would and communicated job progress regularly.

Terry showed up promptly for the estimate and did a great job of quickly sorting out what look and style we were aiming for. The large book of photos showing completed jobs helped us say "like that" or "like that but change the . . " He put together a detailed bid on the spot. When we asked for a change, it was promptly recalculated. Curt the project manager was excellent about communicating and keeping us informed. The crew was very professional. They were careful not to damage the lawn or landscaping and the site was left very clean. THe paint crew likewise did a great job. Our job was completed on time and at the price bid. We are very pleased with the final result.
Description of Work: We asked TCSP to replace the old ugly, peeling, non-maintainable siding on three areas of our 1960 rambler with James Hardie siding, and then paint to match the existing siding. TCSP had installed James Hardie siding on the rest of the house 7 years ago (I know, we should have done it all then) and we liked their work/price/quality then so immediately thought of using them again.

Not very well! In April 2008 I got two estimates for the work from Hardy-endorsed contractors. The bids were within $100 of each other. I selected Twin Cities Siding Professionals (TCSP) to do the work. Since my job was relatively small, their field salesman (Ted) said that he would get back to me and schedule the work when they had extra siding from another job. OK. Having heard nothing by late August, I called Ted and left several messages, without reply. Finally, on Sept 18th I met with Ted and he brought the grim news that the "new" price for my job had almost doubled, to $3729. The reason---material and transportation prices had "gone up". I politely declined this unreasonable increase as we already had a contract for a much smaller amount--($1978)--which I felt should be honored. Ted seemed to understand and left to "talk to management". Not until Sept 30th did Ted call back and said TCSP would honor the original contract, but that they needed up to $300 for increased costs. I felt that such "increased costs" should not be my problem, especialy if the work had been done in a timely manner back in June/July, rather than waiting until October. I finally did agree to a $200 price increase to placate Ted and management. Even after all of the above, the work did not actually start until Oct 31st. The work done by the crew and supervisor looks to be of high quality. The custom paint used is an entirely different issue: Several times, starting back in April, I was verbally promised that TCSP used ONLY S/W Duration latex paint, as experience had shown it to be a superior product. When painting started, however, the crew was using S/W Super latex paint, two quality levels below Duration and much less expensive. I had several "unpleasant" discussions with Production Coordinator, Nancy. She finally committed to using Duration and hung-up! The crew did use Duration latex for the final second coat. With less than a year gone, the painting look good.
Description of Work: Remove inplace wood siding on west gable of house and replace with Hardy siding, using board and batten construction. Paint with S/W Duration paint to my color selection. Remove debris and get necessary permits.

Response from Twin Cities Siding & Roofing
I am sorry this member had a bad experience with certain parts of his project. The sales rep on this project, Ted, was brand new at the time of this estimate. He was understandably excited to bring his first sale into the company. Like other professional contractors, we always examine the specifications and pricing of each job brought into the company, and found this one to be priced below the cost of the labor and materials. Sometimes estimators make mistakes and before we accept a project, we firewall it to make certain it falls within acceptable margins. Because the project was priced below our cost for doing the project, we had Ted inform the client within 48 hours that we could not do the project for him at that price. We did not accept this job, did not cash his check, and sent all paperwork back to him. The member mentioned that he had another bid and we politely encouraged him to accept the other contractor, but he insisted that he didn’t feel comfortable with or have confidence in the other bidder. This member went on further to say that if we did not perform the work, he would give negative reports to Angie’s List and other online publications. I value my company’s reputation and standing in the community very highly. Against my better judgment and because of his threats, I agreed to do the project but had Ted ask for $300 more to at least cover the costs involved with siding and painting two coats on his one gable. He agreed to an extra $200 and we scheduled the work for later in the fall. Regarding the painting of the gable - our company applies two full coats of Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint as opposed to one coat of Sherwin-Williams Duration. This is detailed in the proposal packet that this client received. I strongly agree with his comment that it is important to get everything in writing from a contractor. Had he read in detail the information provided by us, he would have realized that we recommend two coats of Superpaint for all projects. I have personally painted thousands of homes with both Duration and SuperPaint and have found that over the years two coats of Superpaint holds up better from a fade standpoint than one coat of Duration. Ted, unfortunately, did not convey to production that this client wanted Duration on his home, and it was not called for in the work order the client signed off on. When Nancy, our Production Manager, found out, she immediately made the switch with no questions asked. Cost had nothing to do with the choice to use Superpaint over Duration (in fact, two coats of the former costs us more than one coat of the latter), we have just found that two coats of Superpaint holds up better from a longevity standpoint than one coat of Duration. Kudos to the crew for doing an excellent job and making sure the customer “got exactly what he paid for.” It is great to note that in the end this member received a quality job for his money and that the paint job is holding up to his expectations. Employees do occasionally make mistakes. We do our level best to fix those mistakes and make our customers happy. I personally have mis-measured a project and had to go back to the customer and inform them of my mistake. I have had open and honest discussions and have had people inspect my numbers and still agree to pay the right price for the right project for their home. The vast majority of our customers understand that we must be profitable in order to stay in business. We have a responsibility to our past customers to be around if and when they need our services in the future.
