They don't tell you about the hidden cost. I don't like that. They should tell you right up front instead of come in here and put you on the spot. They were real nice and courteous though.

We appreciate this feedback as we are constantly exploring options to improve our communications. Sadly with any service we try to field the customers needs over the phone based on their description of the circumstance/needs. However, with every home having unique circumstances we do not always know until we arrive to see the scope of work what needs to be done. We explain that the tech may recommend something more/less based on what they find when they arrive but not in all circumstances. We offer services too numerous to count for every possible issue that may arise, some are at no charge and some may be an additonal charge. We will certainly look into more thorough ways to expliain this to customers over the phone prior to arrival. We hope to improve each experience and use each customers feedback to do so. Thank you for your feedback!

Scheduling was easy (I called) and they were able to get me an appointment the next day. The service tech was great. He was knowledgeable, polite and attentive, and did a thorough and professional job. I was given an appointment window of 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and was told the service tech would phone me a half-hour before his arrival, which was great because I work close by. Unfortunately, the service tech got hung up on a previous job and didn't show up until 5:45, and I had to initiate the phone calls to find out when to expect him. Although, I was appreciative that he still came to do the work and didn't cancel or try to reschedule. The service tech was able to easily and readily determine the problem and had the necessary part on hand to repair the unit right then, which was terrific. The pricing for the capacitor replacement seemed very reasonable; the cleaning was on the high-end, however. They did give me a break on the service call fee and I was able to use a $25 coupon through Angie's List, which was helpful. Overall, I am (at this point) pleased with the service and will use them again in the future to perform annual maintenance and if I have any additional problems with the A/C unit or my furnace.
Description of Work: Repaired our central a/c unit. Specifically, they cleaned the unit and replaced the capacitor, which had failed causing the unit to stop working.

Our furnace stopped working after I had a baby. We called the provider and the owner came to our house within an hour on a Saturday morning. He took us through all of our options and allowed us to get a second opinion. When we confirmed the purchase with the provider, an appointment was immediately set up and installation began Monday morning. The technician was professional and completed the work in a timely manor.
Description of Work: The provider installed a new furnace and air conditioner.

Residential was prompt in answering my call on a Saturday, and scheduling someone to put in a new furnace and air conditioner on Monday; you can't beat that. They got us heat the same day that they came out, and their work appears to be of good quality. The cost was comparable to other estimates which we had received previously. I was less impressed with their contraced electrician. He needed to return to finish some of the electrical work but ignored our two calls; I called Residential and they said that they would have him call back promptly but he never did return to finish his work until he realized that he had left one of his tools at our house. Residential also communicated poorly about when we would receive our rebates for purchasing high efficiency products; and put the instruction manual about how to use the new furnace INSIDE of the furnace, without telling us, which resulted in them having to come out again to show us how to turn the furnace back on....if they had handed us the instruction manual no doubt we could have used it to figure out how to turn the furnace back on. It was not a big problem because they didn't charge us for this, and it wasn't that cold, but I'm not sure why the manual was placed inside the furnace.

We had a great experience and were very relieved it wasn't a more costly repair and emergency service call.
Description of Work: Our furnace quit overnight and George came out at 9am on a Sunday morning for our emergency call. He called before he arrived to better understand our issue, then arrived within an hour. He was very professional, quickly diagnosed the issue, replaced the part (he had one on hand in his van), and stayed to ensure the repair resolved the issue. He also gave us a few tips on our air filters and recommended duct cleaning to ensure a long life for our furnace. We will definitely call Residential Heating and Air again, and would recommend George for professional, prompt, and friendly service! Thanks!

I woke up today and my house was freezing. I called the company to let them know, and they sent out a technician. They charged me $129.00, when the only thing that was wrong was the batteries needed replaced in the thermostat. Instead of advising me to check those things by phone, they sent somebody out and charged me $129.00. The technician was nice but I felt the price was unfair. UPDATE AS OF 6/1/15: 2009 I purchased a Goodman Furnace from Residential Heating and Air Conditioning company. My purchase paper work said the furnace came with a 10 year parts and labor warranty which required me to have my furnace checked and cleaned bi-annually by Residential. If not the warranty would be null and void. 2011 I got a notice to have Residential do the maintenance work required. I scheduled it and after the technician was done I commented on how nice it was to know it was cleaned. He said they do not clean it but they check it and repair it or clean it if necessary and he did not clean it. I paid $149 and then called Residential to inquire about the cleaning. The person answering the phone said they did clean it and they would talk to the technician. That put doubt in my mind. 2013 I once again got a notice to have Residential do the maintenance. I specifically asked if they were going to clean the furnace and they said they were going to do it. 2014 I wanted my ducts cleaned and brushed out and hired another company on Angie?s List to do the work. When the technician finished the work he commented that something in the furnace, I can?t remember which part, was dirty and needed cleaning. So I paid him extra to do it wondering why it hadn?t been cleaned by Residential in 2013. 2014 Please see the complaint that I am now editing by adding history to it. 2015 I once again got a notice to have Residential do the maintenance required to maintain my warranty and asked to make sure the furnace would be cleaned. I set up an appointment a week or so before May 20 the scheduled date. May 19 I got a voice mail, which I picked up after they were closed, that they didn?t think they should come out because I wasn?t pleased with their previous work. I called back on May 20 to speak with them. The employee spent approx. 10 min. telling me they weren?t going to come out because I was unhappy with their work and gave them a bad rating on Angie?s list. During the conversation I consistently told them I wanted to have them do the work to keep up my warranty. They refused and said I would have the parts warranty from Goodman and they would send me a check for the December scenario of $129 and I could use it to get another company to do the cleaning. I told them I still wanted them to come out. May 29, 2015 My air conditioner would not turn on. I called another company to come out and check it and check and clean my furnace. I also called Goodman to inquire about my warranty. They informed me that my warranty had never been registered and that usually the installing company gave the homeowner directions about registration which needed to be done within 60 days of installation. I looked through all the paperwork and there was no directions regarding registration. At the time of purchase I thought it was all taken care of. Goodman said they only offer a 5 year warranty replacement and parts and the additional warranty of 5 years is only available if it is registered and mine was not! They did say I have a 20 year warranty for the heat exchanger which is still valid.
Description of Work: They installed a new furnace for me in 2009.

To whom it may concern; The clean and tune required is a full service cleaning, inspection and tune up on the equipment that we install, this process takes up to 2 hours. When we sell any equipment we have them sign a letter stating that they understand this needs to occur every other year to continue LABOR WARRANTY, we send them reminders when they are due, we also call to remind them. Our technicians follow the exact procedure that the manufacturers and state mechanical code require. I cannot even begin to understand her statement that someone told her we don’t actually clean the equipment, as that is NOT what we do. I further investigated that claim and when I spoke to the tech that was at her home (employed here for 10+ years) he was surprised she said that. As far as a duct cleaner commenting on the furnace, when the ducts are cleaned if not done properly will cause the furnace to become very dirty because all of the debris in the ducts moves through the furnace during that process. This is why when we are complete with duct cleaning we do a FREE furnace clean. Duct cleaners are also not required to be licensed, educated or trained in HVAC unless they work for a full service heating and air company like ours. So that being said if she had brought this concern to us in 2014 or any time prior, we would have addressed it immediately at that time. But this is the 1st we are hearing of the concern about the tech not cleaning the furnace and the duct cleaners. We tell them after installation and during our walk through and training session after if their specific equipment requires PARTS WARRANTY registration. I cannot force a manufacturer to change their policy, although we wish we could to help our customers in situations like this. But all we can do is inform each customer and leave them with the proper tools to do so. As far as the current circumstance; when this customer called to set her appointment to maintain her LABOR warranty with our company she expressed that she was not happy and did not want to do business with our company. She said she was forced to do so, I received a message to call her to try to resolve her discomfort. When I did so she expressed that she did not want to pay our company to complete the clean and tune on top of that. I explained we wanted her to be happy and that she was not forced to do business with us, I offered to refund the $129 from 2014 so she could have a company of her choosing complete the maintenance. I further explained that would void her labor warranty with us but not warranty through the manufacturer. She continued to express that she did not want to pay us to come out, that we could not make her happy even with a refund and that she did not trust us. I offered to do the clean and tune for free if that would satisfy her and she said no. At that point it became clear that we could not meet her needs. Our goal is to complete every service on time, affordable, with a smile and leave our customers satisfied. It was apparent that we could not do this for her no matter how hard we tried, so we told her it would be best for her and for us if she found another company that could make her happy. At that point she became upset and began demanding that we service her equipment. We have opted not to continue the relationship not because of Angie’s List or any other reason than we cannot make her happy and we want that for her. We feel it is reasonable to refund her the $129, so she can have the service done elsewhere and hopefully feel some satisfaction. We will not pay for another company to complete this service in addition to that refund. We also cannot force Goodman to give her the 10 year PART warranty as she did not follow their procedure we explained at installation and after. I tried to help on that end and they refuse to budge. The labor warranty is with our company and cannot be transferred. Sadly, we are not able to meet her needs which is regrettable. Thanks you for the opportunity to serviced your home and your HVAC needs! Sincerely, Renee Mandt, Service Manager

Provider did not show up or call during the scheduled apt. I called a half hour before the end of the window and was told they were behind and that I should be hearing withing 20-40 minutes. Once the time window ended I called and canceled my apt as it was going to be to late to complete the service. This company installed this furnace ~4 years ago and they did a good job at a reasonable price, but it is important when people are taking time off work to be there during a time window that the service provider is on time or at least proactive with potential delays.

We were not able to make to this appointment within the time slot , we had a technician who was in an accident. We did call and apologize to this customer due to the circumstance. We offered a free service if he wanted to reset for a different date. We take full responsibility with our customers in this circumstance, with full apologies on our part. When a service van goes down due to a major accident we do try to re-dispatch the calls or reset them. Sadly we cannot always accommodate each customer as originally scheduled. We appreciate the feedback and were very aware that we failed this customer by not arriving within the scheduled slot.

We dealt with Dave Hericks, sales consultant with Residential Heating, who took a serious look at the layout of our house and recommended a placement of the indoor units that would maximize the amount of cooling we could expect. His plan differed quite a bit from a proposal we got from another company and he was able to convince us of practicality and effectiveness of his proposal. Dave was knowledgeable about the LG system the company sells and answered all of our questions in depth, including being able to make comparisons with other brands of this type of A/C. Installation was scheduled soon after we signed the purchase agreement. They were prompt and professional. The installer was very nice to work with and cleaned up after he completed the installation. He also made a suggestion for how to run the tubes up the exterior of the house from the outdoor compressor. We are very pleased with how "invisible" the final result is outdoors. The indoor units are only about 1.5" deep and are mounted just below the ceiling, make them very unobtrusive as well. The unit we purchased has a two year parts and labor warranty which requires annual maintenance. Residential Heating called us in the spring of 2014 to schedule the maintenance check-up. We might have forgotten about that otherwise. Overall, we were very pleased with service we received from the company and are more than happy with the product and it's ability not only to cool our whole house in the summer but also to heat it, thanks to the heat-pump technology, during spring & fall transitional heating season.
Description of Work: Installed "multi-split" air conditioning in our 100 year old house that is heated with a bolier and hot water radiators. The system includes a heat-pump inverter (the outdoor unit) and multi-split indoor units. These units are installed on the inside wall of the living room and an upstairs bedroom. They required drilling a small hole through the wall in order to attach the indoor units to the inverter/compressor outdoors.

The fellow's name was Mike, and he was great. Punctual, called me ahead of time, friendly, quiet. I asked him if he'd install the new water pad I had purchased for my furnace humidifier as long as he was checking it out anyway, and he was glad to do it. He told me one thing nobody else had ever told me, and that's that the carbon monoxide detector plugged into the wall is supposed to be good for only 7 years or so. Mine, being much much older, probably was obsolete.

To schedule maintenance waiting time was 3 weeks. Once unit brokedown, service time was moved up. George came and as always was helpful, professional and pleasant. He did not provide any service to increase cost until he could ascertain we would get the parts. Unfortunately, parts come directly from Samsung it took a week to find out parts were available and another 8 days for them to be shipped. Once parts came in, service was scheduled promptly and George finished service promptly.

They were okay. They cut my bill in half. Their price was the same as everybody else. I am not sure how it is going to work out. I had a problem with their attitude. We would love to address [member name removed] issues with attitude however are not sure how to do so because the response is so vague. So the facts are what I will share. We did an estimate for [member name removed] on 4/16/14 she called to accept the estimate during the 1st heat wave in the end of May, we fit her in ASAP. We installed the Central Air ONLY, added a basement return and re-ducted the supply (due to lack of airflow) to the living room on 5/29/14 for a low price. At that point she said it had alleviated her issues with even cool temps throughout her home. Then we even did a follow up walk through to go over any concerns she had on 6/6/14, which we had only positive response from this customer at that point. Then after using the new AC until 6/21/14, Saturday, the customer called and said she had no airflow on the interior of her home. We moved other customers around on 6/23/14 to fit her in ASAP, as we did want to address her every concern and get her cool again. We found that her old existing furnace had a part that had failed the central air was working great but without the furnace blower no air was flowing. She then decided to call a home warranty service plan to fix what we had diagnosed. We are sad that we cannot further address her concern but do plan on contacting this customer to hopefully figure out where the "attitude" came from. We pride ourselves as individual employees and a company as a whole on the exceptional service and positive attitude that we share with our customers and certainly don't want one experience to be different from another. We contacted this customer regarding the review, as we were not aware that she was unhappy. She stated that she had already scheduled the contract company for a later date and would be in contact with us. On 7/11/14 customer had contract plan technician call me and state that he suspected a refrigerant problem. I told him that was not the issue and please do NOT touch the ac because he could damage it. We spoke to the customer and reiterated that the blower in the old furnace was the issue. We were so sure of our diagnosis we would install it for FREE (about a $600 repair). She said that she was satisfied with that solution and we arrived that day to complete the repair and found that the other company had slightly over charged her new ac, adjusted that, the REPLACED MOTOR FREE. The customer then stated that she was very happy! As a courtesy we also refunded the $79 diagnostic on the furnace. So this customer received a repair and diagnosis for free. Followed up with customer on 2 occasions since, both [member name removed] and her partner stated they were very satisfied!”

For the cleaning price, they also went on our roof to check the vent. Lower score for punctuality was due to the fact that they arrived three hours early and I was not prepared. We appreciate the feedback. Our technicians do occasionally run ahead of schedule, never want to inconvenience our customers. So do we call our customers for approval before arriving early and if that does not work for them, we come during a time that does. Our dryer vent cleaning is based a flat rate due to the fact that some homes take 1+ hours and some take less than an hour. Some are through the roof and some through a wall, some we have to clean from inside and outside, some from just inside or just outside. There are so many variables because these are customized to each home, so it is understandable that some customers will feel they got a VERY GOOD price and some will feel they paid too much because of this. We want to give our customers a price that is solid, up front and fair so we based our fees on the average home. We will certainly look at how we can improve our explanation to each customer so they have a better understanding in the future.

Chris, who came out to bid the job, was great. No dog and pony show, just here's what you need, here are your options and here's what we can do to make this work better for you. Installers were prompt and professional and work was done as planned. There was one minor glitch in that kept a fan running. When I reported the problem, they were very responsive and got it solved right away. Buying new furnaces isn't my idea of a fun way to spend money, but Residential Heating and Air Conditioning made is pretty painless. I didn't give them an A on price, just because I didn't have a bunch of time to bargain hunt and I'm a tough grader. What I will say is that it feels like good value for the money based of the quality of work and the professional manner in which it was completed.

Our heat went out on a Saturday morning and they were one of the few places that was open. Unfortunately our furnace was quite old and a fan broke and we needed a new furnace. They weren't able to put a new one in over the weekend, but the tech made a special trip to pick up space heaters for us to use until they could come back and install the furnace on Tuesday. They were able to work with Centerpoint to get us an efficiency rebate and they sent in all the paperwork necessary.

We do have emergency installations available, however during this time of year we may have filled all available slots. When we are unable to complete an emergency install (weekends) we do provide a source of heat until installation can be completed. When our Emergency repair techs find that we can fix it or temporarily fix it to get a customer by without danger to the household we will utilize that option. Sadly in this case it was a danger to operate this furnace. We will take the feedback about emergency installation into our next heating season to offer more available options after hours, maybe review adding additional emergency staff. THANK YOU for letting us know what your experience was!

When I asked about financing options they said they partnered with a bank to offer loans. I asked them to get me approved for the loan but instead signed me up for an unsecured revolving loan. I believed that they were going to set up an installment loan with a bank and not a revolving line of credit. Now I have to go out of my way to cancel this card and dispute it with the credit bureus! It was a very frustrating experience.

Our application process includes all customers filling out a (WELLS FARGO) bank credit application which explains in great detail what the loan is for, the type, the interest rates and all associated items which our customer must sign to agree to those terms. Every consumer whom we offer this option to is also given information on payment amounts, APR, and the terms specific to them at the time. We always make sure that each customers questions are completely answered before we run the application. In this circumstance it sounds as if we were not aware that this customer wanted a specific type of loan that we do not offer (secured installment loan). Ours is a monthly installment line of credit in order to allow the customer the flexibility of early pay off without penalty (closed when paid off). We are sad that he chose not to take advantage of our financing or wonderful services. Sadly we do not know what our homeowners want unless we have great communication between us, we try to cover a great deal but may not hit on everything each person wants to discuss..

Beware the bait and switch on duct cleaning via their subsidiary Twin Cities Duct Cleaning (www.twincitiesductcleaning.com). We moved into an older house in St. Paul and I booked them for their middle level service for $189, fully disclosing whatever they wanted to know about the condition of the house. They promptly came out on the scheduled day of service, looked into a couple of vents, and drilled two holes into our duct work before informing us that they needed to pull out all the stops...or their "extreme" duct cleaning for $359. Yikes! Not what we had in mind. Sorry our vents are old, narrow, twisty, and dusty (umm...we scheduled a duct cleaning for dirty ducts in an older house). Perhaps they could have deduced these challenges much early in the process or come out and inspected/quoted us a price beforehand. That's what you get for using a Groupon deal instead of Angie's List.
Description of Work: The provider showed up for a scheduled service...and subsequently told us we would have to pay twice as much for the highest tier service.

Response from Residential Heating & Air Conditioning
We have no record of this customer with our duct cleaning however we will honor expired Groupon vouchers no matter what with our company. Although this is our website I think this customer may have been scheduled with a competitor. We apologize that this was his experience elsewhere however we can only complete a proper service at each home we enter as well. Just because a customer wants a particular service does not mean that we can complete that service without damaging the ductwork or furnace, therefore we do recommend a proper service once we are at each home based on the many variables we encounter. The best comparison I can give a customer is; if you go in for an oil change and the transmission is leaking that will not solve the problem or properly address the issue at hand. Therefore a reputable company will make a proper recommendation based on what they see rather than complete unnecessary services. Another example is if a customer calls to schedule a clean and tune on their furnace when it is in fact NOT Heating, this will not solve the problem. It actually needs a diagnosis and a repair due to mechanical failure. It is not in any way a "Bait and Switch" as we explain this on our website in great detail as well as on the phone when the customer is scheduling that this is possible because we cannot see the household over the phone. This may not be planned but it is always in the best interest of our customers and their homes. Sadly this can disappoint some customers and we try to accommodate each customer with discounts and the highest of customer service with a guarantee of said services.

Very poorly. The salesman showed up, gave us a quote and scheduled an install. The installer came and realized that the salesman did a poor job in the specs and he couldn't install it that day as he didn't have the equipment. The installer was going to go back and figure it out and call us. It has now been a week and we haven't heard from anyone. We've hired another company to do the work.
Description of Work: Gave us a quote for installing a humidifier on our forced air heating unit. Then failed to install or call us back.

We apologize that due to the weather we have not had an installer available to complete this SPECIAL humidifier install. The issue with this job is that it is going to require specialty ductwork and a custom built set up which requires specialty fabrication. We are sorry that we have not been in contact with this customer to update them regarding the humidifier installation but will do so immediately. Sadly we have had to prioritize the customers that currently have no heat and are in emergency circumstances at this time in the season, not that he is not important to us. We will do our best to accommodate his schedule and fulfill his need for humidification.

They were thorough with the examination of the air conditioning unit. They let me know what I needed and they said the ducts did not need to be cleaned until the units were replaced.
Description of Work: They came in to do air duct cleaning. When they came to my home they found that my air conditioning unit needed to be replaced. They found holes in the unit as it was 30 years old.

I would grade them with an A. I had no problems, they were courteous and pleasant. They did the work fine. The inspector found one minor issue which they corrected; a heating duct had can be no more than 18 inches of the floor, it was a little higher than that. They may not have been aware of the height restriction when they installed it. It was a good experience, and I am using them again today.
Description of Work: They put in a furnace for me for $3700, with a rebate it was only $3000. That was the lowest price I could find.

Dealing with Residential Heating and A/C was great from start to finish. We have a hot water heating system, making a traditional forced-air, whole house system unworkable for us. RH&AC was able to schedule us for a bid within a few days of our call. Dave Hericks, the sales rep, thoroughly explained the mini-split technology to us and developed a reasonable plan for getting maximum benefit from the system in our home. (We had had a bid from another dealer which did not seem as convincing or practical to us.) The installation was scheduled and completed right on time, with minimal intrusion and mess. The technician/installer was experienced, well-informed, and polite. RH&AC sub-contracted the electrical work. That person showed up as scheduled and was also very efficient and clean with his part of the project. The system has worked great. Because of the layout of our house, we had to put the upstairs unit in a guest bedroom. That still provided us with enough cooling for the master bedroom. On the very hottest days we placed a small fan in the central upstairs hallway to "boost" the cool air into our master BR. We can't believe we waited so long to air-condition this old house!

The provider did an excellent job. Both the technician and the assistant were very courteous and happy to answer my questions. They called before they arrived, told me I was welcome to watch or ask questions, were very knowledgeable and cleaned up after themselves. I did ask several questions and they were happy to take the time to explain. Because the ducts had never been cleaned before, they recommended a slight upgrade on the services I had ordered but weren't pushy about it at all.
Description of Work: The provider cleaned my air ducts with the roto brush and also cleaned my dryer vents.

Our A/C quit working Thursday night, so I called RH&AC Friday morning when they opened. They set up an appointment time the same day between noon and 3:00. The service tech (David) called at about 11:45 saying he'd be here in 30 minutes, and he was, right at the start of the time range they gave us. He quickly figured out the problem (a bad capacitor), replaced it, and checked the rest of the system to be sure there wasn't anything else going on. He even wanted to take a moment to meet our dogs, one who had been barking at him while he worked outside the window. With it being the start to the long holiday weekend, it was great to get a quick appointment, get it fixed early and get on to enjoy our weekend!
