The agent gave me a 10 minute notice instead of a 30 as requested. Which is fine. Unfortunately, he told me my furnace was unsafe to use, shut off gas to it and wouldn't complete the furnace tune up but then insisted on charging me for it. He said I could use the money as credit towards a new furnace but the quote left out a lot of information (ie brand of new furnace etc). I don't mind paying for someone's time - but I do not want to pay for services that were not completed. Another thing I didn't like was with the ($70) AC unit tune up there was no list of specified check points. They may say they're checking everything, but how would you know what 'everything' means? I will not use this company again.

"We are sorry to hear that this customer was unhappy with the location of the furnace in a closet with limited space, we are bound by manufacturer specs and state mechanical code which dictate the location. We did not hear from this customer about issues with this installation, had we been informed we would have addressed that immediately! We installed this equipment on 7/21/14, returned on 7/31/14 to complete the required testing for rebates/inspection which found everything up to code, NO LEAKS nor were concerns raised at that point. The city of Minneapolis found this install to be safe, up to code and passed this inspection on 10/23/14. This customer called and left a message on the main voicemail which states that it is checked during regular business hours, NOT the emergency line which is available after hours and on weekends. This is why we were not able to reach them until Monday when we received the message. Given the opportunity, we are always willing to address concerns any customer expresses. However we were not made aware that there was an issue until now."

Caesar from Residentail Heating and A/C called me 45 minutes before arriving, (even better than the 30 min I requested), and arrived a few minutes early - I found him awaiting me at my door.  He serviced added refrigerant (Mike's didn't even do that correctly) serviced the unit with the additive, and 2 hours later the system was running perfectly! 
In the end, Residential solved the problem for $41 in refrigerant and the service-visit fee, Carrier/Payne paid for the additive.  Mike's Custom Mechanical would have installed a new condensor at $1800-2200 and that would not have fixed the problem.
I highly recommend using Residential Heating and A/C!
Now I have to go after American Home Shield to recover the $190 since it was their decision to use that contractor, and report Mike's Custom Mechanical to our MN Attorney General, Lori Swanson.   I hope everyone learns from my mistake - if you get a home warranty, ask them for a "pay out" on the claim so you can chose a reputable contractor of your choice.

They don't tell you about the hidden cost.  I don't like that.  They should tell you right up front instead of come in here and put you on the spot.  They were real nice and courteous though.

Sadly with any service we try to field the customers needs over the phone based on their description of the circumstance/needs. However, with every home having unique circumstances we do not always know until we arrive to see the scope of work what needs to be done. We explain that the tech may recommend something more/less based on what they find when they arrive but not in all circumstances. We offer services too numerous to count for every possible issue that may arise, some are at no charge and some may be an additonal charge. We will certainly look into more thorough ways to expliain this to customers over the phone prior to arrival. We hope to improve each experience and use each customers feedback to do so. Scheduling was easy (I called) and they were able to get me an appointment the next day.  The service tech was great.  He was knowledgeable, polite and attentive, and did a thorough and professional job.   I was given an appointment window of 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and was told the service tech would phone me a half-hour before his arrival, which was great because I work close by.  Unfortunately, the service tech got hung up on a previous job and didn't show up until 5:45, and I had to initiate the phone calls to find out when to expect him.  Although, I was appreciative that he still came to do the work and didn't cancel or try to reschedule.  The service tech was able to easily and readily determine the problem and had the necessary part on hand to repair the unit right then, which was terrific.  The pricing for the capacitor replacement seemed very reasonable; the cleaning was on the high-end, however.   They did give me a break on the service call fee and I was able to use a $25 coupon through Angie's List, which was helpful.  Overall, I am (at this point) pleased with the service and will use them again in the future to perform annual maintenance and if I have any additional problems with the A/C unit or my furnace.

Our furnace stopped working after I had a baby.  We called the provider and the owner came to our house within an hour on a Saturday morning.  He took us through all of our options and allowed us to get a second opinion.  When we confirmed the purchase with the provider, an appointment was immediately set up and installation began Monday morning.  The technician was professional and completed the work in a timely manor.

Residential was prompt in answering my call on a Saturday, and scheduling someone to put in a new furnace and air conditioner on Monday; you can't beat that.  They got us heat the same day that they came out, and their work appears to be of good quality.  The cost was comparable to other estimates which we had received previously.  I was less impressed with their contraced electrician.  He needed to return to finish some of the electrical work but ignored our two calls; I called Residential and they said that they would have him call back promptly but he never did return to finish his work until he realized that he had left one of his tools at our house.  Residential also communicated poorly about when we would receive our rebates for purchasing high efficiency products; and put the instruction manual about how to use the new furnace INSIDE of the furnace, without telling us, which resulted in them having to come out again to show us how to turn the furnace back on....if they had handed us the instruction manual no doubt we could have used it to figure out how to turn the furnace back on.  It was not a big problem because they didn't charge us for this, and it wasn't that cold, but I'm not sure why the manual was placed inside the furnace.
