Edward was extremely nice and professional, and helped us through the process. We originally had no heat due to a bad exhaust motor, but upon further inspection he found that the heat exchange had 3 cracks which were dangerous to our health. Instead of just saying it, he took the unit apart to show the cracks to prove the issue. He then gave his service person recommendations on a new unit, as opposed to just the marketing fluff. We will almost certainly go through Residential Heating for our replacement furnace.

Gerald from Residential was very knowledgeable and helpful in going over our options for replacing our early 80's forced air furnace. Following the initial meeting, Gerald not only followed up on the phone but also sent a handwritten letter thanking me for contacting Residential and if there were any other questions I had. We ended up going with another company because the Carrier brand furnaces that they carried were a little out of our budget.
Description of Work: Received an estimate to replace our old furnace.

I was able to get a quote over the phone and schedule the installation in one phone call. Edward called me about 30 minutes prior to his scheduled arrival to let me know he was on his way. He spent about an 1-1/2 hours doing the install and another 20 minutes explaining, in detail, how the system worked and what kind of things to watch for while running the system. He was extremely professional and polite and throughly cleaned up when he was finished. Overall, a great experience. Residential Air had the best price of the 5 companies I called, but $550 still seems a bit high - which is why I rated the price at a B. I will definitely use them again, though. They were very good.

Called in request, received by polite response and they wanted to make sure we were not freezing. Sent somebody out the next day. He found the problem immediately and fixed it.

Residential replaced an outdated gravity furnace with a high efficiency furnace, installed central air, and custom-built all new ducts across the basement ceiling to connect to the ducts that run through the house. The work was done a year ago and we've had a full year using both the furnace and A/C and everything works great. We had a large, old gravity furnace in our unfinished basement, which Residential contracted out to remove. The person from Residential who installed the new furnace, ductwork, and central A/C was a seasoned pro and thanks to his experience (and a lot of creativity), we now have all new ducts in the basement that fit well with our planned basement renovations. The installer, Jack, was impeccable. He spent time with us, asking us questions about our plans, and suggested a variety of options and the pros and cons of the different options. He was always willing to answer questions and give advice. His level of expertise and many years of experience installing systems in old homes was clear and very much appreciated. We can't praise him enough, his work was exemplary. We were new homeowners at the time and this was the first project on the house; it was a relief to know that we were in good hands. Chris, the person who visited the house, determined what was needed, and provided the bid was also knowledgeable and pleasant. We invited three contractors to bid - his recommendations were great and he even provided the solution to a problem we had with determining how to run a return through the house. During the installation, he took extra steps to make sure we were getting the right system; he visited to take additional measurement and advised that we insulate our attic as soon as possible. The only improvement in the process from our perspective was when we first scheduled Residential to visit the house and provide a bid - the person who came out wasn't able to provide a bid, he may have been more on the sales side. At that time, we did not yet own the home and had made arrangements via our realtor to be in the house, taken time off, etc. We had to reschedule Residential's visit to get a representative who could provide a bid, which was inconvenient. That said, we were glad we did.

They did a great job! When having your air ducts clean make sure you understand the process the company will use. It is important you are present during the service.
Description of Work: We had our air ducts cleaned by another company two years ago. We had lots of dust after the other company cleaned the ducts. We decided to call Residential and they did a fantastic job cleaning the air duct system. I do not see dust floating around in my home anymore. The two gentlemen we informative every step of the way. They found construction debris and cigarette butts from when our home was constructed in 1978. I would hire them again.

I was given an appointment for service on November 16th between 11 & 1pm. They didn't show up so I called the company. They had me down for November 2nd with a "No Show". The 2nd was the day I had first called in to scheduled an appointment! At first I was told I'd have to wait another 2-3 weeks because they were booked out that far. I wasn't happy with that answer. So then the office did find service people who came out later that day but said they really hadn't wanted to do my job that day. I was quoted a price of $164.95 for this job. There was no mention of an extreme duct cleaning at the time I scheduled the appointment. Our vents were dirty, granted but we were shocked when we were given the new price for doing our vents. Also, the service team said they had to clean out the furnace chimney for an additional charge. I was told about that either at the time of scheduling. So the original agreed upon price of $169.95 turned into $433.34 at the time of service. Our basement was vacuumed afterwards. The service people had drilled holes in our ducts where they did their "extreme" cleaning and debis naturally came out of those holes. They left our basement filthy. I am sure they did a fine.Made an appointment for November 16th between 11 & 1pm. Didn't show up so called company.

Residential Heating and Air performed an Extreme Clean on my duct work for $359.00 (minus a $20 coupon for using Angie's List). I had to remove all the vent covers before hand, which turned out to be a good thing because two of them were painted on. It took me an hour to remove them carefully with a razor blade and alcohol (softens the paint). The equipment (explained to me on the phone), was compressed air, a vacuum, a rotating brush, a biocide fog (some biocide fogs are labeled as a safe pesticide by the FDA), and a camera. Compressed air was used to blow all the debris from the vents to a vacuum stuffed into the return air duct (they cut a hole in the duct work about 8" square and shove a 6" hose into the hole). Next, smaller holes (maybe 3/4"), are drilled into the duct work so that the compressed air hose can be inserted incrementally to facilitate cleaning by blowing the debris further down the line to the vacuum. Next a hose with a brush was inserted into the ducts and run down the duct work (as far as a man can reach) to pick up what is left. Next oxine biocide was released to sterilize inside the duct work. The camera was disappointing, it is only 12" long and the lens was cloudy so I was only shown a few inches inside the ducts. When the furnace filter was removed about 2 grocery bags of camel colored insulation was in the furnace. It did not look like dirt (which is gray inside my vacuum), it looked more like sweater material. Since I could not inspect inside the ducts with the camera I decided to visually inspect with a flashlight, I found loose dirt, sand, and more insulation, a lot more, so much in fact that the two techs spent another hour repeating the process they had just finished. More holes were poked, more compressed air was blown down, and more insulation was found. Looking down the ducts a second time I found a good amount of loose sand and lint. What was the deal? These two tech had been at this for 4 and 1/2 hours and the ducts were still dirty. One tech told me that my ducts were haunted. I said you are only as good as your equipment. After the techs left I vacuumed and dusted all the rooms because there was a layer of dust on everything including my dishes in the dish drain, and my bed cover (I just did this 4 days before they arrived),. Afterward, I decided to weigh the dirt (minus the bag weight), and found it weighed 8 ounces. The next day before I replaced the vent covers, I stuck my vacuum cleaner hose down the vent as far as I could and heard debris being sucked up. I still had loose sand in a long run of duct work so I vacuumed it out with my vacuum cleaner hose and a bare floor attachment as far as I could reach. I checked and changed the air filter to the furnace and found it layered with insulation, which looked like a lint filter in a dryer. 6 days later I changed the air filter for the second time (it was dirty but not layered). My house is 52 years old, and the ducts have never been cleaned, but the sand inside was loose so it should have blown out. Residential agreed to clean the ducts a second time for free on December 9th.

This company did not do the job and treated a customer terribly. Within moments of their arrival, the charge went from $189.99 plus the dryer vent to over $647! When scheduling, I had been told they do a roto sweep, using a brush tool to clean the duct work, however, they only did this for a few feet in the main line and did not do the duct work! Then, for an extra $170 they would use a special forward snake tool to better clean the ducts starting at the register. This, too, they never stated would only be a short distance. Bill explained how important it was that the blowing of the ducts had to be done first and then the furnace had to be cleaned of this blown material. Because they arrived earlier than stated and, knowing that this process would be noisy, I said I need to put the cat away as the front door will be open. Derek said he would go to the truck and I asked him not to return till I let him know I had taken care of the cat. I lured kitty to the kitchen with some wet cat food and took her in my arms with the plate of cat food in my hand when Derek came banging in the front door. The cat leapt, my arm bled, the cat plate went flying and food ran down the dining room wall. When Bill and Derek had done some work, Bill said they were done with the vent and furnace cleaning and even insisted on it. However, the bathroom where the cat is had not been done. Bill offered no apology. I moved the cat and Derek did the vent in this room. Based on Bill saying the furnace had to be done last, I subsequently took off the front furnace plate and discovered dust hanging inside the furnace and, running my fingers here, I picked up grit. Pointing this out to Bill, he snapped, ?It?s going to be that way, ma?am; it?s not a new furnace!? Subsequently he used the blower instrument and the large vacuum tube inside the furnace. There was a manufacturer?s paper attached to the inside and he pushed and prodded the blower tool under it, causing it to break loose and be sucked into the vacuum. He never asked me if I wanted it and said, ?Well, it?s too late now.? After they cleaned the dryer vent work, I went outside with Derek and saw clumps of dust hanging. When I pointed this out, they said that was not the vent and their work didn?t cover it. When they left, I noticed a speaker still sitting over the corner of one of the living room registers and checked to see if it had been cleaned. This register cover was not clean nor was the vent so I walked outside to their truck to show that they may have missed one and without even looking at it or asking Derek if he had done the work, Bill snapped, ?Ma?am, you?re going to have dust balls here and there!? I took photos of the living room register and vent. I phoned Angie?s List and one option was to call Renee at the office, which I did. Renee expressed no apology for anything that had occurred. I emailed the photos to her and she emailed that the vent debris is from carpet and dust! Stating the obvious, that?s why I had them out to clean the vents! I debated how to grade this company but the terrible experience, the incomplete work and the compounding of this by their response leaves me giving them a grade of ?F?.

Response from Residential Heating & Air Conditioning
This customer's expectation to clean the vent covers is not something we normally complete as some/most of our cleanings require them to be removed,. Although that is the case we offered to return and do a free reclean and add a camera to comfort her with no response from the customer until this email from Angie's List. Terrible service and communication. They never showed up for the first appointment or called. They obviously went to the wrong house. We were home the whole time. They say they called twice---even had the right number---but no phone calls were received. They had the audacity to blame us for their gps system sending them to the wrong house---if that is what happened. We set up another appointment, and they didn't show up again. When I called their office, their excuse was that they were just about to tell me it would be another 2-3 hours. They would give us $20 off for inconvenience. They reworked Bill's schedule and he came within 40 minutes. He walked in, told us our ducts had never been cleaned properly by the last service, and said he would have to add another $200 to the $189 quote. He was also going to cut 5 holes in the ductwork . When they were told we didn't want it he said he would not guarantee the less expensive cleaning. When their services were canceled, they left the house without putting the cover back on the furnace, or turning the heat back on. What a terrible way to run a business!
Description of Work: None were performed. They brashly doubled the cost of services, and said if we didn't accept the more expensive service at $400 they wouldn't guarantee the work.

They were great to deal with from start to finish. Orginally we contacted Standard Heating and Air Conditioning for the tune-up, but they couldn't book the appointment for weeks and insisted on a 4-hour appointment window. Residiential Heating and A/C, on the other hand, was able to book an appointment the same week in a 2-hour window. The technician arrived on-time, was friendly and efficient. We had no problems with the unit. We also received a $25 Angies List discount.

This was a terrible experience. My wife was at home and the service tech quoted her a price for the service call, cleaning, condensate pump, and circuit board being $1600. But if we joined the maintenance club it would reduce the price of the condensate pump to $125, and the circuit board to $1280 with labor, and was supposed to give us 10% of the total making it $1420. This seemed high to me, so I looked up how much the circuit board would cost and found it for $190.77 from the HVAC supply store that they got the circuit board from. Then when I asked the tech how much the part cost he said "Uh, I don't know, well the labor is $130, so $1150." Not only had he just picked up the part so he should have known what the price was, he wanted to pad the actual price by almost $1000 and hoped I didn't notice, or assumed I wouldn't question the high price! Then he said I should just get the part and do it myself I said I'd like him to remove and return the part. First he said there would be a re-stocking fee, then later he said they couldn't return the part. When I talked to his boss, Renee and asked her why the part cost so much she said that she couldn't have the part removed because she would be liable for the non working furnace and the high cost was because she has to have insurance and whatever. I said that should be included in the labor cost of $130, not upcharging $1000 per customer. They finally agreed to remove the part and only charge me for only the condensate pump, cleaning, and service call. I will never do business with this dishonest company, they tried to lie there way out of every situation and they steal money from people they don't think know any better.
Description of Work: Routine repair call for damaged furnace circuit board, and condensate pump, In short they upcharged me $1000 for a $190 circuit board, and lied about it. Also the tech came 1 hour before the scheduled time.

I have had quite a few occasions to deal with this company, starting with an estimate on a new furnace and the furnace install. The story continued with an estimate on a new AC (initially we did not plan to change it, as it was only 8 years old, but the a-coil turned out to be leaking after the new furnace had been put in place, so we decided to change the complete system), the AC install, air duct cleaning and sanitizing, and the project was capped with a new cap put on our chimney flue (courtesy of the company). All their people who came to hour house were very professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. No pressure from the sales person, competitive pricing. All our questions and concerns got patiently addressed. The jobs have been completed in a timely manner and to our satisfaction. The only "point deduction" I could make is for the person who installed the AC not putting protective cover sheets on the carpeted area (the other installers and air duct cleaners did). Overall, we have been happy with the company and the job they have done.

Residential Heating and AC installed a furnace for me two years ago. The whole experience was great. I've recently found a buyer for my house and the buyer's inspector required an alteration in the type of attachment used to connect the humidifier venting to the furnace. Dave from Residential came over and made the simple change at no cost. This is an example of the caring, customer-based service this company provides.

These guys were incredible. You are crazy to use any other AC company. I got bid from 4 other places and the prices were all the same but the professionalism and attention to detail with Residential Heating and AC was by far the best! They went above and beyond my expectations! They were always on time, worked in a difficult/OLD house, great personalities, no problems with any of the install. I can't imagine not having central AC with all the heat this summer. Also, their office staff is handling all of my rebate paperwork which is wonderful. Special shout out to Chris and Dana who really blew away my very high expectations and demands - thanks for protecting the integrity of my 80 year old house and making it cool!
Description of Work: I put central air in my 1927 house and the these guys were amazing. A system was put in my attic and duct work put in all through my home. Also, they installed the most quiet outside system - you can barely hear it run. Ed, the tech person, called me to let me know that he was on his way. He arrived EXACTLY at the beginning of the scheduled service window that I was given when I set up the appointment. Very warm and personable, Ed fixed the problem right away and vacuumed up the water on the basement floor (not necessary, but a nice touch!). He also explained their "maintenance club" program, which I opted for. While he was there, he cleaned the outside A/C Condenser Unit (that's part of the routine service covered by the "maintenance club" program) and explained how they'd be back in the fall to inspect and clean the furnace before the winter heating season. I chose this company because of the many positive reviews on AL, and I was NOT disappointed. The entire service call, from start to finish, was a very pleasant one. Ed asked me, more then once, if I had any questions about anything (which I didn't)...and I get the feeling that if I'd had some questions, he would have taken as much time as necessary to give me the answers I was looking for. When he was getting ready to clean the outside A/C unit, he asked me to get him a water hose. I brought one over to the side of the house from the back yard. When he left, he had carefully coiled the hose back up in the back yard right where it should be. Again, not necessary, but a very nice touch. All the little attention to detail that I noticed while Ed was on the job speaks volumes about the integrity and professionalism of this company. I couldn't have asked for a better service experience. Thank You, Residential Air...and thank you, Angie's List, for helping me make the right call.
Description of Work: I scheduled a service call because the A/C was leaking water on the basement floor (instead of down the drain tube). I also needed the outside A/C Condenser Unit cleaned since it had never been cleaned since being installed. Finally, since the furnace had never undergone an inspection since being installed nearly 20 years ago, I wanted to have that done as well.

I was very satisfied with the service overall. I did quite a bit of research and got quotes from other companies before settling on Residential to do the job (really the best deal for a high-end system to replace heat and add air). Gerald, the salesperson, was knowledgeable, straightforward and very personable. Environmental Solutions (Residential's contractor) did the asbestos abatement and I was satisfied with them as well; removing the octopus and the nasty asbestos-covered tentacles was a pretty loud and messy job, but they did a good job with the containment, removal and clean-up. Can't say enough about Jack "the gravity guy", who did the actual installation- he was great. I really appreciated his professionalism and what I can only describe as craftsmanship. They also replaced and relocated my water heater. Can't speak to the electrical contractor or the plumber, as I didn't meet them, but no complaints on the performance of the system or water heater so far. Residential followed up with a "happy check" a week after the install, and handled all the paperwork for the manufacturer's and utility company rebates.

Overall it went fine. AC unit is old and company may be defunct at this time. Had to order new part direct from manufacturer which took long than expected. Renee did a great job keeping me informed of the progress of the part shipment and giving me options for fixing and possibly replacing our AC. When the part did arrive, David did a fantastic job with the install! He had to work outside in sporadic rain and oppressive heat and humidity to get the job done. He did so without any complaint and a smile on his face. Turns out the compressor didn't fit exactly as the old one did and he had to work some copper tubing around it so it would work correctly. Our house was cooled down and comfortable again that night. Other than the trouble with the manufacturer, the entire staff was helpful, knowledgable, polite and communicated with us every step of the way.
Description of Work: Had compressor replaced in central air conditioner unit.

I have mixed reviews to report for Residential. There sales staff was quite helpful and knowledgeable about their products. A second expert came to the house to show me options for zones with their top of the line carrier system. They even helped get me a service call for my ancient ailing AC unit. The HVAC installers were prompt, professional, polite, and did their work on time. Their clean up was good with removal of old system. I would give Residential's part of the job overall B to A service which I would certainly use again. The electrical sub-contractor that Residential uses is another story, however. He was distracted with personal calls taken on the job. He left a mess both inside and outside the house with electrical harnesses outside, old electrical parts outside, old thermostat and humidistat on counters inside, as well as multiple boxes and packages with packing materials left about the furnace room. Most importantly, he was supposed to connect the thermostats and the zone systems and did so incorrectly, so my new $13,000 AC unit didn't cool the bedroom for a day and half. NOT Angie's List A+ service by any stretch. Residential sent a tech out to troubleshoot the faulty electrical install and he did a very careful job making sure everything was fixed correctly and demonstrated everything I needed to know. Overall good service recovery but if your looking for premium service with your premium HVAC service, Residential's install falls short due to sloppy work by their electrical sub-contractor. Beware of this fact when purchasing a new HVAC system.
Description of Work: Complete HVAC replacement including new high efficiency AC, high efficiency gas forced air hear, air filter, humidifier, multiple zones using Carrier premium Infinity system.

Easy to schedule. Edward called first and arrived promptly within the two hour window. Did a thorough, quick & professional job. A return visit for fall furnace maintenance was included in price. Will use again.
Description of Work: Diagnosed and replaced burned-out capacitor of our neglected AC. Cleaned unit. Suggested better maintenance to avoid future problems.

Bill and Billy arrived on time. They were (as they have always been) courteous and efficient. Bill takes the time to explain not only what they did but how we can best take care of our furnace and AC. Everyone we have ever dealt with at Residential are top notch.

Residential Heating was friendly from the initial call. Edward our technician was professional, on time and very informative. We trusted what he was telling us and felt that he had our best interest in mind and not just trying to sell us something that wasn't neccessary.
Description of Work: We called Residential Heating & Air Conditioning for a second opinion on our central air system. We had been told by another company that the system needed to replaced. Edward from Residential came out and noticed that the drain line from the air conditioning system was backed up causing water to leak onto the floor. He suggested rerunning the drain line and adding a condensor motor--after signing up for the prefererred maintenance program our total repair bill was under $300 rather than $5k for a new system and our central air works great!
