They were prompt in returning phone calls, and professional on the phone.
Description of Work: No work was performed due to costing $69.00 for an in home estimate. We chose not to have them give an estimate due to other companies providing free estimates. If we would have hired them for the job, the cost of the estimate would be deducted from the bill.

I had scheduled an early morning appt to maximize MY work day. There was a scheduling glitch at their end but they rearranged and fixed it so that they were within 45 minutes of original expected arrival time. Representative was very courteous, very apologetic for the glitch and got the job done quickly and well.

We called and scheduled an installer to come out and give us a price where we would pay for a service call if we did not go ahead at that time. This was our fastest option we could have waited a little longer and had an estimator come out. We went ahead with the install and the job was started right away. The lighting and outlet rough-ins went well, but there was a problem with the bath fan. We relied upon the contractor to select the fan but gave them the CFM and sound rating we wanted. They purchased what was available at their supplier which evidently was not the type that they normally used. Also, they did not mention and/or overlooked that there was a night light option that was included in the fan that we purchased. The rough-in was done without the wiring needed to accommodate this feature so the install was done with the night light disabled. We were told that it would cost significantly more to correct and that there was some sort of mix up with the fan we received.
Description of Work: Rough-in, wiring and installation of bath fan installation, lighting, movement of an electrical outlet and addition of an outlet in the bath closet. The bath fan was purchased by the contractor. The specs for the bath fan purchased were not consulted by the contractor or given to the client before the rough-in.

They thought they could correct the problem of having two bathrooms connected to a 20 amp plug (having the ground fault pop each time two hair dryers were on) by wiring a separate ground from the garage to one of the baths. Although I accepted the estimate of $570, on the day the guy came to do the job. I decided not to go ahead with it based on some other factors he mentioned. Rather, I just had him replace the ground plug, hoping that would work.
Description of Work: Replaced the ground fault plate in bathroom.

I thought that for the impression I was fist given, by the website and the initial people I talked with, that the quality of the work wasn't worth the price I paid. When I asked about an hourly rate, I was told that the jobs were quoted individually, but I never got a break down of labor and materials. The exterior outlet was done for $150, was very well done, with lots of care, and he even switched out a couple of panel switches on my garage panel at no extra charge. I was not impressed with the rest of the work, and will not use Gunnar Electric again.
Description of Work: I called to get an electric range hooked up with 220 service. I also needed to get a grounded outlet in the bathroom, and have an exterior plug installed near the patio. I expected someone at 10A, which got delayed to between 9A and 11A. I was told at 10:30A that the electrician was running late, having arrived at work late. He finally showed up at about 11:30A. He was friendly and outgoing. I described what I wanted done, he figured the jobs in his head while I waited. He offered to do the range (which was about 20' from the garage panel) for $750.00. I decided that was too expensive. The bath outlet was quoted at $450. Still felt it was high, but went ahead. He chipped the plaster in my wall, installed a tan outlet in a white wall, and didn't bring anything to use to clean up. He left wire scraps in my basement. When I went into the bathroom to use it later that day, I discovered that he had used the toilet and not flushed it. Continued below...

I was very appreciative of how quickly Terry responded to my problem. After half of the electricity went out in my home, I called about 3PM to see how soon they could help me. Doing everything he could to take care of me that very day, Terry came to my home after his last scheduled appointment. Terry was prompt, accommodating, and very personable. I had an extremely pleasant experience with this company and will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Loose wiring had caused one our main breaker switches to burn out. Terry came out to assess the problem and returned the next day to replace the necessary part in about hour labor time.

Not done yet, but I'll update when the 'free estimate' comes in.
Description of Work: I called to ask to get an appointment for an estimate to get 2 lighted ceiling fans installed in bedrooms and to have some lighting installed in a vaulted ceiling of a condo. I was asked if I wanted the ceiling fans put together or if I was going to do that? I said that they'd have to do that..The receptionist that I talked to said that if I wanted an estimate done quickly-that an electrician comes out and gives the estimate and if you have him do the work then, then it's a 'free' estimate, but if you pass and say no thanks, then it costs $120.00.. What? She said it covers costs to them. I can understand that, but $120?? I said what if I already have an estimate of $1100 from another guy, and I get one from you guys, and it's 2000, and of course I don't want to pay that one-I'd have to pay the $120? Yes. Um, no thanks. I did leave my name/number b/c I'd like to see what estimate they offer, b/c she did offer a person to come out in a few weeks to give me a 'free' estimate. Confusing.

It went great from start to finish! I had the clothes washer and dryer replaced at a rental property I own and the new dryer did not work after installation by the appliance company (used them before and very good). New dryers do not come with power cords because there are so many varieties of outlets in use, so the installers take the cord off the dryer being replaced and put it on the new dryer. The damage to the cord and fuse had happened before the installers arrived, but I was unaware of that - all I knew was there was an electrical problem. The Service Manager was out to lunch when I called but he called back within half an hour, then called the tenant and scheduled service for the next morning. The electrician arrived promptly on time, fixed the fuse box, determined the outlet was incorrect and the power cord damaged, replaced them and was out in a little over an hour. The tenant told me that he was very professional and competent. I will definitely call them again.
Description of Work: Replaced a blown 220 volt fuse in a very old fuse box - I did not even recognize it as a fuse and I am quite comfortable with most electrical work. Also replaced an old and incorrect (wrong kind) 220 volt outlet for a clothes dryer and the power cord on the dryer that had been damaged when forced into the incorrect outlet.

I DECIDED TO GO WITH ANOTHER COMPANY WHO ONLY CHARGED ME $572 FOR ALL THE WORK. HE EVEN HELPED ME PUT THE MICROWAVE INTO POSITION. WE DID NOT NEED A NEW CIRCUIT BOX, HE JUST REARRANGED THE WIRES.
Description of Work: CAME IN WITH A BID OF $2,900 +. HE WANTED TO PUT A WHOLE NEW CIRCUIT BREAKER BOX IN, AND WOULD ONLY PUT IN THE WIRING. IT STARTED AT $1,799. THE MICROWAVE RE-WIRING WAS $450. THE RANGE RE-WIRING WAS $572, AND THE OTHER CHARGES WERE $822.

Dennis arrived on time and understood my vague descriptions of what I had observed. He checked numerous outlets and switches, replaced three outlets and corrected previous homeowners' "layman" wiring. Cost was reasonable for 2 1/2 hrs work. I would not hesitate to call them again for any electrical needs.

I called at approximately 8:30AM to arrange an appointment. Although I expected to have to wait at least a few days for the outlet to be installed, Patrick said that an electrician could do the work immediately. By 1:00PM the same day, the outlet was installed. Needless to say, I was pleased with the prompt service. The installation cost was $50 less than I had anticipated. There is no doubt that I will call Gunnar Electric in the future.

He was on time, very professional, and got straight to work. He had to perform the work around a plumber who was there at the same time, but it didn't seem to be a problem for him. He explained all the supplies he used and gave recommendations and instructions in the event we want to install a timer for the heater. They charge $115 for the first hour and $95 for each additional hour plus materials which is comparable to others. I would definitely hire again.

They called immediately and came out to give me an estimate. Once we decided to go with them, they had someone out here within two days. I was told the job would take approximately one and a half days. It took them about four or five hours total. So, within a week I had an estimate and the job was completed. They were extremely friendly, knowledgable, helpful, and I felt extremely safe having them do work in my home when my husband wasn't around.
Description of Work: They added outlets to an unfinished basement. Added one single type 15 amp/120 volt outlet with separate 15 amp/120 volt circuit to the basement for freezer. Added three quad type 15 amp/120 volt GFCI protected outlets with separate 15 amp/120 volt circuit for each quad outlet in basement area. They had to bring the circuit work in from the garage into the basement.

I had a really good experience, from the moment of first contact until the work was completed. I spoke with Pat Gunnar initially. He was friendly and helpful on the phone. The woman who answers the phones is also very pleasant. I was able to get an appointment quickly. John did the work. He was prompt and efficient. He was also very friendly, and did a good job of explaining to me exactly what he was doing each step of the way. The price was about what I expected. I would definitely hire Gunnar Electric again.

I can't say enough great things about this company. They were friendly, professional, prompt and worth every penny. First, Pat spent at least 20 minutes with me on the phone trying to find a tripped GFI outlet. This was to save the cost of having someone come out. We didn't find one, however, so he sent Dolf out to take a look. The house was wired a little strangely and Dolf figured out that there was an interruption of power but wasn't sure where. Instead of taking my basement apart looking for it, he replaced the outlet and gave it its own GFI. So, now it works and is safer than it was before.
Description of Work: We have an outside outlet that suddenly stopped working. Dolf looked it over and decided it would be cheaper and faster to just replace it.

Patrick came to our home to estimate the project. He was on time and took down all of the information. He then called back and gave us estimates and even checked with the city to see if we would have to replace our outside meter (we didn't have to!). We scheduled the work, and the worker was on time and installed everything as stated in the estimate. Some of the work involved putting in new wiring and he had to finish some things through the walls, and he was very patient about it. He was on time, cleaned up after the project, and we were very happy with the work done. Patrick scheduled the inspection with the city and called back to make sure we were satisfied. We would definitely hire them again.

PAT AT GUNNAR ANSWERED THE PHONE AND WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL AS HE TOOK DOWN MY INFORMATION AND ANSWERED BY QUESTIONS. HE ALSO FOLLOWED UP THE DAY AFTER OUR SERVICE TO MAKE SURE THINGS WENT OK. GUY WAS THE ELECTRICIAN AND ARRIVED AT 9:30 (BETWEEN 9 AND NOON AS PROMISED). GUY WAS POLITE, GAVE GOOD SUGGESTIONS AND WAS EFFICIENT. WE WERE DISAPPOINTED THAT OUR DRIVEWAY LIGHT COULD NOT BE FIXED BUT APPRECIATED HIS SUGGESTIONS AND TROUBLESHOOTING HELP. RATES WERE $110 PER HOUR FOR THE FIRST 4 HOURS, AND I BELIEVE ARE THEREAFTER REDUCED TO $85/PER HOUR.
Description of Work: GUY INSTALLED ATTIC LIGHTS, FIXED ATTIC EXHAUST FAN SWITCH AND MOVED 2 OUTLETS IN LAUNDRY ROOM. GUY ALSO INSPECTED OUR BROKEN END-OF-DRIVEWAY LIGHT BUT DID NOT FIX THE DRIVEWAY LIGHT BECAUSE HE DETERMINED THAT OUR VOLTAGE CONVERTER WAS NOT WORKING AND THAT GUNNAR GENERALLY DOES NOT SERVICE LOW VOLTAGE SYSTEMS. HE RECOMMENDED INSTALLING A REGULAR CIRCUIT, BUT THAT WOULD REQUIRE DIGGING A DITCH, WHICH HE SAID HE COULD DO BUT WOULD BE LESS EXPENSIVE FOR ME TO DO IT AND FOR HIM TO COME BACK.

DOLF AND PAT WERE GREAT. PAT CAME OUT FOR THE ESTIMATE AND SET MY EXPECTATIONS AS TO HOW LONG THE PROJECT WAS GOING TO TAKE. DOLF DID THE ACTUAL JOB AND WAS EASY AND FUN TO WORK WITH. I WAS ABLE TO HELP BY DOING SOME OF THE DEMOLITION SO THAT CUT DOWN ON THE AMOUNT OF TIME. WE RAN INTO A COUPLE OF UNEXPECTED ITEMS, BUT HE CAME UP WITH GOOD SOLUTIONS. SINCE THEY CHARGE PER HOUR, I WAS GLAD TO SEE HOW QUICKLY HE WORKED.
Description of Work: ADDED 2 OUTLETS IN THE GARAGE (CONDUIT) ADDED EXTERNAL OUTLET OUTSIDE GARAGE KITCHEN REMODEL - REROUTED 6 CIRCUITS FROM AN OVERHEAD ROUTE INTO THE FLOOR; ADDED NEW CIRCUIT FOR MICROWAVE.
