Beds & Borders Landscape Design

We were very pleased with the services provided by Bed and Borders Landscape Design. The team transformed our rustic backyard into a peaceful sanctuary with the feel of Lake Superior feel. Bed and Borders presented designs to us. We selected a design including pine trees separating our yard from the yards of our neighbors. Within our backyard we have a wonderful fire pit surrounded by rocks from Lake Superior and woodland plants. The team worked well with us as we continued to change the timing of installation and additional work in other areas of our yard. We enjoyed many evenings in our backyard and I would definitely recommend Bed and Borders for any work.

Beds and Borders did a fantastic job, both in terms of quality of work and service levels. They worked with us on plan and budget, provided follow-up where needed, and answered all of our questions. We are so pleased with the end product!

Beds & Borders helped us make our backyard a relaxing and beautiful space we can finally enjoy. Working with Andy was a great experience, especially since he really listened to our needs & wants and helped us prioritize. Obviously a total backyard redo is expensive. B&B pricing was comparable to other bids and very reasonable for the work. Why not an "excellent" score on price? It never feels "excellent" to pay for something that is inherently expensive, but it feels "good" to get it done anyway. We did have some additional costs others may not incur due to living on a hill with no back alley. Some of the work done to our backyard... deck demo, new stone patio, yard dirt/sod, bird fountain with rain garden, sprinkler sysem, downspouts into ground, new plantings/ornaments trees/shrubs, and additonal stone paver area for a fire pit. The entire project took approx 2-3 weeks and did not disrupt our daily routine. Overall, we've been very happy with our new yard and are looking forward to seeing it come back to life in the Spring. We followed Andy's instructions for winterization, but if a few new plantings do not survive the winter, I feel confident that Beds & Borders will make sure our new landscape gets any TLC it needs to come back to life. Would work with Beds & Borders again for any future projects.

The project went really well with Andy being very receptive to suggestions I had about plantings. He created a design that worked well with what I needed and that looks awesome.

We made several adjustments to the project along the way and they were happy to help us redesign and adapt all through the process. They were great to work with and I felt we could really trust them with our back yard space and budget. I honestly couldn't be more pleased with the entire process.

The initial estimate for time to complete the job was four days but they finished in two and a half. There were a lot of guys who worked at one time, lots of machinery to get the job done fast. They show up early, 7:00 am every day. Because the work was done so close to the end of the growing season, we won't get to see the results of the work until next spring. The company has a free replacement on anything that doesn't last through the first winter. We got three bids and Beds & Borders was the highest but not by much, maybe 10%. But Andy was much more responsive than our other bidders and I think the extra money spent was worth it.

The team at Beds and Boarders was wonderful. Andy met with us personally and delivered a great design, on time and on budget. He really took the time to understand our vision and our "reality" ,meaning our existing landscaping and budget. His team even artfully planted a hodge-podge of plants (gifted to us by my parents) without batting an eye! We are already working with him and the Beds & Boarders team to plan our next project.

Great. Very organized , good drawing with labels and information on all plants, bends over backwards to accomodate my schedule when needing to meet Only negative is that I gave them a range that I was willing to spend. They gave me drawing that was what it would look like if I pulled out all of the stops and my back account. I couldn't chose what to do to bring cost down. Ask andy to redo. He came down but 3 thousand over mu budge. I sent ahead and did the plan. Great marketer, I told him.

It was great! Andy and the Beds and Borders team were really great to work with. Andy had excellent ideas and was in tune with the type of project/landscaping/hard-scaping that I wanted to see in my back yard. All in all it looks great - Andy has been very accessible working with me on a few things over the summer including plant and grass upkeep and maintenance.

Beds and Borders has been great to work with. They presented and implemented a design plan that added mulch beds, perennials and tress that would add privacy to our backyard. The plan was perfect for us and we are so happy with how it turned out. The crew was great -- professional and courteous. Andy was amazing to work with. He was very knowledgable and very easy to get a hold of, making sure to follow up with us each step of the way. It was clear these guys love what they do and they are good at it.

Andy Freeland and Beds and Borders have been a superb company to work with. We have probably spent around $100,000.00 over a 9 year period of time. It has been well worth it! Andy and his staff are very reliable and trustworthy. If something isn't to my liking, they promptly take care of it. Every year Andy has great new ideas on how to increase the beauty of our yard. We recently added ground lighting which has been wonderful. Every evening the various ground lights and tree lights come on and illuminate the yard. We continue to get numerous comments on how wonderful our yard looks!

I have worked multiple times with Beds and Borders and continue to be impressed with them. They have great design ideas, and they listen to your needs. Their estimates are very clear and there is good value for your dollar. They get the work done in a timely matter, and the workers are awesome. They are friendly, hard working, and they clean up the site really well upon completion. I have been super pleased with the final look every time.

Can't say enough positive things about how great Andy and his crew have been to work with. He is proactive, prompt, easy to work with, and has great ideas. Andy is very accessible before, during and after any work he does and his projects start and end on time. During the course of a project he checks in frequently to make sure everything is going as planned and will be out at the site at least once each day. He listens to the home owners requirements and builds his plans accordingly, but can be flexible, if necessary. For example, when I said I would like to figure out a way to re-use the bricks from the patio being replaced, he modified his plan and used most of them as edging to the newly landscaped areas, thereby both enhancing the areas and also keeping the old bricks from probably ending up in a landfill. Andy's crew is well organized, efficient and polite. When they leave at the end of the day, everything is nice and tidy. I am very, very happy with my new yard thanks to Andy and will continue to use his company when I need any updating to my yard in the future. Highly recommend Beds & Borders!

Working with Andy and his team again this summer was a fantastic experience. We outlined the plans last fall, aligned on a proposal and general timing. Andy followed up right away this spring and kept us in the loop on when to expect them. The results looked great! All work was completed on time, clean up was perfect and guidance for ongoing maintenance was clear. Andy was also available for post project questions. Would highly recommend working with this team!

They did a great job! Andy was patient and thorough during the design process and really listened to what we were trying to accomplish. He was creative in the design and open and responsive to cost saving ideas. He kept us updated as to when they were going to start the work, stayed on schedule and were finished in a very short time - and did it while coordinating with another contractor. The yard is beautiful! We had roses blooming within a couple of weeks of being planted! A few spots of sod didn't make it and I had a family reunion coming up. They were responsive and his team came to replace the bad spots right away- in plenty of time for the reunion. I recommend them and will definitely use his company again.

Met with Andy Fall 2015. He and his wife developed a design based on my input and then willingly & considerately adjusted it to jibe with the wishes of my spouse (who has VERY particular requirements & tastes which apparently I had not been paying enough attention to when I discussed the project with him). This was a very positive part of our experience. I met with at least 5 other landscapers and they tended to be a bit bossy or seemingly unwilling to do something as "weird" as we wanted (all green, lots of hosta, etc). Andy contacted me in May 2016 to let us know where on his schedule we were and kept us updated as to any postponements. Crew arrived around 8:30 AM (Andy arrived a bit later to check in & make sure we and the foreman were on the same page) and by 2:30 PM they were cleaning up. VERY good crew - at least 5 guys (or 6) and they all seemed to know what they were doing and worked hard (no sitting around or loud music). They did a very good job of cleaning out our VERY weedy areas and turning over the soil. They also removed a small fir tree and three arboravitae. Watered before they left. I asked the foreman some maintenance questions which he answered. Andy called a couple days later to go over the care I needed to provide over the summer.

Andy was very personable and easy to work with. We got the patio we always wanted. The finished product was fantastic just as we imagined only better. The crew was polite and very professional taking caution not to damage the lawn or leave a mess behind them( they even laughed at my jokes, that alone makes them all winners). Thank You Andy and your crew we can now sit outside and enjoy this awesome patio.

We greatly enjoyed working with Andy and his team. While incredibly busy, Andy was always prompt in his response and delivered on all timelines that he committed to for follow up and install. I appreciated that Andy listened attentively to what our goals for the projects were and made suggestions based on his experience and expertise. His team was also very professional, working quickly. The end result was beautiful and they left our yard in immaculate condition. We already have "stage II" projects planned for next year. Happy to recommend them to anyone looking for a great local team to do quality work.

The Beds and Borders team's intellect and execution are superior quality based on my experience with many others companies and individuals in the business. Andy has a broadly talented and beautiful design sensibility which is very hard to find. He's familiar with a huge range of styles and can work with anything from a traditional aesthetic to an experimental approach. As a designer myself, I appreciated his ability to vacillate between style and function, weighing pros and cons with me. Through it all he created an amazing vision and worked at length with me to be sure our ideas were aligned. Additionally, Andy is a great listener and communicator with a high level of professionalism and organization that I really appreciated. When it came time for installation, his team was fast, considerate, and detail-conscious. Should any further needs arise, I will always contact Andy and his team first, and recommend them highly to anyone else.

Andy Freeland, the owner and main landscape designer was extremely helpful and courteous. He came out to my home and gave a consultation and came back with a design and proposal based on my ideas. He is very knowledgeable and was able to make excellent recommendations to end up with the results I wanted (which is a very good thing since I know nothing about plants and have a very "brown thumb"). The end result is a beautiful low maintenance and moisture efficient front yard adding tremendous curb appeal to our home and leaving me more time as I don't need to mow the areas any more. We have received a number of compliments on the work even though the plants are still very young. I can't wait to see how it looks in a couple of seasons! Andy will be back out in the spring to ensure that all the plants made it through winter and replace any that didn't as they guarantee their work. He and his crew were right on time and had the whole job done in half a day. I would most certainly recommend Andy and his team at Beds and Borders to anyone looking for landscaping and design services.

Before replacing our entire front yard landscaping (6-7 bed, very large, filled with dead or dying plants), we got a few estimates. Andy's plan was more reasonable and he was very straightforward about all the options and costs. His crew started on our agreed upon date. Very good, hardworking and polite guys. Andy was on site to supervise several times. Quality plants that he guarantees. They wrapped everything up in 3 days, which is what they'd estimated. We loved the result and received lots of compliments from the neighbors. (I'm sure they were sick of looking at the sad plants in our old landscape!) Andy told me how to maintain the plants, how often to apply any products, etc. and checks back on the yard from time to time. Overall, very satisfied and highly recommend!

The original visit by Andy in June was to get an idea of what we wanted done. He recommended a company to remove 3 large trees and several bushes. (We were very impressed by the work they did). Andy drew up a preliminary landscape plan for the front yard and for a small area in the back yard. He was very cooperative and patient to work with us as we made suggestions as to some of the kinds of trees, shrubs and plants we would like to incorporate into his design. His crew came and removed a lot of of the previous landscape rock and fabric that was in the area. Because of a vacation that we had already scheduled and Andy's schedule the final part of the landscaping couldn't be done until mid August. The crew then came up and prepared the area, placed rock edging along the property line, added black dirt, brought in boulders of various sizes and worked with us as to the best placement. The new trees and plants were brought in, placed and planted according to the design. Mulch was added and some of the landscape rock we had in the yard was used to make a 10 inch border between the lawn and the mulch. They replaced the stone path. The crew were very pleasant and hard working and always asked us how we wanted something done to be sure it was done the way we wanted it. They always cleaned up the area before they left. They were very good about working around the people who were removing and replacing part of our fence. We discovered the day after the project was completed that by accident the small spruce tree that was planted was the regular size variety instead of the dwarf. We notified them and they replaced it with the correct one. The other thing was that landscape fabric was supposed to be placed under the mulch but was not done, which was an oversight and it was not realized until after the work was completed. The cost of that was removed from the total cost of the project. Andy said they would be willing to add it next spring if we decided we wanted it. Over all our experience with Andy and his crew was very positive. We look forward to watching our new landscaping grow and change throughout the seasons.

Andy and his crew were prompt, courteous and did a fabulous job. The front of my home now has much needed curb appeal, the new plants look amazing and over-all my property has never looked better. Even my neighbors have all stopped me to comment how nice the house looks. Thanks Andy!!!
