Description of Work: They installed a new gas furnace for me. They also installed a chimney flue.

Here is my experience overall, the technician seemed knowledgeable and did a good job fixing all the obvious problems, our A/C has been working great since. The sales rep was very nice and knowledgeable. The equipment they wanted to sell us was overpriced and based on 2 other opinions NOT NEEDED! because of this i will not be using them again, which is too bad, i like them, i just feel like i was almost taken advantage of but luckily did my homework and avoided it, I don't have time for that kind of shenanigans.
Description of Work: This is a mixed review, we had our A/C and furnace serviced shortly after purchasing a home. The technician from Sedgewick seemed great and took the time to clean out rodent damage to the outside blower and had the A/C blowing much better. We were surprised when he told us that we had a crack in the heat exchange that was leaking CO and that the furnace should not be used and needed to be replaced. He also said the cooling coil was most likely bad and needed replacing. The system is 17 years old and this is certainly possible, however we had a full inspection done 1 month before and I watched the furnace being tested extensively with no sign of CO leaks. Then Sedgwick sent out a sales rep, he was very nice but quoted us between $5,000 and $5,500 for a replacement furnace plus another $800 for the coil. I had to ask for less expensive alternates but without tax credits they would wind up costing more. So we got a third opinion last week from another company. The third technician ran the unit for 20 minutes and tested everywhere with the CO meter, and there was no sign of a leak, he said that it takes over an hour to disassemble the furnace to actually see the exchange and know for sure if there are hairline cracks (Sedgwick didn't do this either) but that there was no sign of problems with CO leaks so there was obviously no significant cracking. This is exactly what the home inspector said the month before so it was 2 opinions against 1, he also recommended getting a 60$ digital CO detector for peace of mind, that will warn us and still have a reasonable amount time to get it replaced before any real danger is present. I asked for a quote to replace the furnace and coil - The high end quote was $3,500 for the same unit Sedgwick wanted $5.500 for (ouch) and $400 for the coil (half the Sedgwick price).

For the bid, too much sales, not enough "meat". This company should not get A ratings when they harass you with telemarketing furnace tune-up calls?
Description of Work: Company gave bid on new hi-efficiency furnace and a/c. Went with another company who was slightly lower but did a better energy needs analysis with less sales involved. Advised salesman that we went with another company. This is not my problem with them. We have been called frequently in the past three weeks by them trying to sell their furnace - a/c tune-up service even after I told them we had a new system installed two months ago and they were one of the bidders! Strongly advised them to do not call again. This didn't do any good, they keep calling.

The workers from Sedgwick were very professional. They very extremely punctual. They called ahead of time. They were very attentive and clean in my house. They got to the bottom of the problem and solved it for me. The only thing I wasn't happy about was that it came down to fixing 2 fuses and the price turned out to be extreme.

They were great. They had someone come out before the installation to take down the measurements of the home and go over the options based on the measurements. They explained what would be most beneficial and went over the products with us. We got lucky and saved about fifteen hundred dollars because we purchased it during end of year inventory clear out and they had another special going on at the time. The crew who came out to do the installation were very nice and neat with the work that they did. I have been pleased with the units. I have also signed up for a service package with them, so they come out twice a year and go over everything for us. They are a good company to work with.

They were very thorough, very prompt, and very very professional. They did an excellent job with the ventilation. They were willing to answer all the questions that my wife and I had. We felt like it was a good value. They were very courteous and very respectful of our property. They cleaned up after themselves. They were helpful in letting us know everything that was going to happen, who all would be coming out, and when they would come in to do the work.

If you are looking for a heating and air conditionaing company for yearly maintanance and tuneups, I would advise going ANYWHERE than sedgwick. I'm not a huge complaining, but they have drove me to the point of where my blood is boiling because they can NEVER get it right!!
Description of Work: Oh My God. I can't believe the horrible service I am getting from Sedgwick Heating with their service department. Primarily, with the department "schedules" tune-ups that arrange to come to your home to give your heating or air con unit a tuneup. They CANNOT keep track of the time you agreed upon, and since I have two contract, one for my primary residence and one for my rental property, they cannot keep track of which address to go go. It's absolutely unreal, as if someone is playing a joke on me!! I do admit, they did a great job when they installed a brand new furnace this winter. But i think that is because i was dealing with a whole different set of people.

Our 21-yr. old furnace had a cracked heat exchanger and we needed to replace it quickly, since it was in the middle of winter. They were very prompt in getting someone over to inspect it and diagnose the problem. When it was determined that there was CO2 leakage and the old furnace couldn't continue to be used, they adjusted their schedule and were able to get a crew over on a Friday and complete the removal of the old furnace and installation of the new furnace all in one day. All of the employees I had contact with were great--very friendly and responsive. They were meticulous in their work in getting the furnaces in and out of the house--they all wore "booties" over their shoes, kept cardboard and plastic over everything--so that you couldn't even tell they had been there, other than the fact that we had heat! They also brought over space-heaters to use to keep the living area more comfortable while the work was going on. It was a very favorable experience for us.

You know those commercials that ask "What would the world be like if other professions ran like contractors with Nextel 2-way phones"? These guys were like that! They were really organized, and really efficient. They also were very professional in dealing with what they had to do in the midst of other people coming in and out of the house for unrelated reasons. I can not understate the professionalism of these guys.

Sedgwick was the only company who had a live answering service on Saturday night. While the answering service was obviously outsourced and didn't have up-to-date information on how many calls were in the queue, I received a call back from the technician on duty within minutes. He arrived about 45 minutes later and courteously completed the work. The guy was very friendly and explained everything he was doing. He had my 8-year-old nephew watching him the whole time, answering his questions. Very nice experience.

While the scheduling and appointment went smoothly, getting the actual bid was quite rediculous. Lenny Gephart at Sedgewick came out and seemed knowledgable as we discussed what was needed. He committed to getting me the quote with the next couple of days. After two weeks, I called Sedgewick and they were not helpful. They told me to call Lenny. After leaving him multiple messages and submitting a complaint on their website, I finally got a call back telling me he would send it the next day. In total, it took nearly 3 weeks to get a QUOTE. While there was no way I would do business with them after that regardless of price, they were over $2,000 higher than either of the other quotes I received.

It really wasn't a good experience. They did a lot of work that didn't need to be done, and then I eventually had someone else come out to finish the job. They were fine and everything, but they didn't find the problem immediately, so they had to keep coming out and doing other things until I finally got the installer to come back and fix it immediately. They ended up charging me $400, which I was told later that a lot of that was unnecessary.

We woke up on Thanksgiving morning to a very cold house: the furnace (a boiler, about 20 years old) was pumping away like mad, but there was no flame. I called several of the heating contractors on Angie's List, including one I have used and liked in the past, but the first few I called were either set up to roll into voicemail, or they were too busy with other calls--not a good sign, and I imagine that they were closed for the holiday. My third or fourth call was to Sedgwick, who I haven't used before; a live person answered, and although it was a call center on the East Coast (when she asked me to spell "Minneapolis," I got a bad feeling), within a half hour I got a call from the local guy on duty, who was at my house within an hour after that. He was pleasant and professional, and sure seemed like he knew what he was doing--although in all candor, I can't gauge whether the repairs that he said were necessary, a new ignition module and some other part--really were necessary. Hey, if I knew from furnaces, I would have fixed it myself. What I do know is that he was fast and efficient, and even though the visit and repair cost me $850 (gasp), the furnace has been running like a top ever since, and our Thanksgiving was saved.

I called for an appointment and they could actually fit me in the same day, but due to my work schedule I could not do the appointment that day, and selected one two days later. I was called and informed the technician was on his way. He was very thorough in trying to determine the problem, and very thorough with his explanation of the problem.
Description of Work: After I explained the problem I had been having and the prior service calls with different companies and their inability to find/diagnose the problem, Wayne looked at the duct work where water has leaked from, checked the floor drain and confirmed it was not clogged, and looked at the pan and confirmed it was not cracked. He told me what he believed the problem to be, and said that it would best be fixed in the spring, right before I turn on the air conditioner for the first time. I plan on definitely using this company in the future.

After reviewing Angie's List comments, I rang up Sedgwick Heating and Cooling for an estimate to replace the central AC in my home. The sales representative showed up on time/schedule but employed suspect sales tactics. For example, discounting the skill level of competitors and off handily dismissing the quality of the project lines they sold, repeatedly trying and up sell me to a complete HVAC system (heating, cooling, home filtration system) after I explained my objectives and budget, claiming to know exactly the size and SEER rating of the AC unit I needed by "experience" alone rather than any real analysis. The proposed price for the unit/service also turned out to be some $700 to $1000 higher than the nearest competitor. Overall, I felt the experience similar to the stereotype of a used car salesman.

The price was fair. The price included more than what the other companies were offering in terms of work and installation. Other companies were going to charge us more for extra duct work to the outside, which was necessary to get a higher efficiency furnace. They did a great job with the work and cleaned up well. They also hauled away the old units as part of the cost, and they were done the same day. We had a humidifier attached to the furnace, which was working fine. After they left, the humidifier was not working well. We called them about it and they stated they could sell us one for $500. I called back and talked to one of the Sedgwick family and they ended up giving us a new humidifier at no charge. We were satisfied with that. They were very prompt and responsive. They have been fine. I will continue to use them and would recommend them to others.
Description of Work: They put in a new furnace and air conditioner. We also purchased a service contract with them in which they come to clean the ducts and inspect the units periodically.
