I bought a new garage door opener but when the installer came out he suggested the garage opening needed be reframed to allow adjustments for the garage door railing to be more squared for proper garage door operation. I have an old garage with one side of the foundation sinking making the building not square, I need a new garage but need an intermediary fix until I can afford to do so in a couple years. I searched Angie's List and found Expert Carpentry, I called Chris, he came out in a few days. I appreciated he was able to work with the garage installer to find out exactly what they needed for the opener installation. When working with older structures, one needs to be flexible and have good problem solving skills, I found these traits in Chris. My garage door is now ready for opener installation. I feel very comfortable recommending Chris and will use him again for future work.

I contacted Chris in early summer about the prospect of replacing our front stairs. By the time we made a decision to complete the stairs he was booked up but still worked us in. The steps look fantastic - very professional job. He was easy to work with and the price was significantly less than concrete. After the stairs were completed and he was paid, we realized that the mail slot was no longer working with where the steps were placed. I called Chris and he responded right away and agreed to come out and fix it. I left the parts for the new mail slot and he spent at least another hour putting in a larger mail slot for us. Again, a very professional job.

We are building a deck and needed help cutting and setting the stair stringers. Chris was very skilled and got the job done in a timely manner at a fair price

I ask him if he was available the first of October. He said yes, I told him what I needed done to my deck repair and I made an 8:00 a.m. appointment with him for an estimate and he didn't show up.

We were in the process of getting our house on the market when we noticed the loose railing on our deck. That led to finding rotted boards in other places. Searched on Angie's list to find a contractor who could take care of it without delay. Chris returned my call the same day and made arrangements to come look at the deck the following day. He was able to fit me in between jobs that week. He and his partner did a great job in a short time.

My deck lost one of its posts after the hush winter. It broke away from the deck and the whole deck was tilting upwards on one corner. While I was looking for someone who can repair the deck and feeling the worst case, I may have to somehow rebuild it. someone suggested me to look for a deck builder but most of them turned down my request because it is too small job for them. Christ replied my initial message timely and gladly came to repair my deck. He charges very reasonably on a hourly basis for repair work. In couple of hours, he and his assistant were able to readjust the other posts and put the missing post back. The whole deck rebalanced nicely again! We were very pleased with his work and wanted him back for another repair work. He came back couple weeks later and replaced a broken internal door. without breaking the existing frame, he was able to make adjustment to a new door and made it fit perfectly. We would definitely recommend Chris to our neighbors and friends if they have needs.

We setup a date and time to get together to discuss porch construction. He never showed. I called him, he never got back to me. Really bad customer service. NOT RECOMMENDED!

Met Chris Hernandez two times at my location for an estimate of what I want done. I even provided blue print plans and he said he would get an estimate to me in 2-3 days, but when I didn't hear from him after a week I sent an email for inquiry. I never got a reply. If you say your going to do something (in this case give an estimate), then please keep your word. I would rather you just tell me that you can't do it, then to tell me something else (i.e.. a Lie) and then not do it.

Chris was absolutely fantastic. I called him on a Firday and he said he was swamped but could fit me into his schedule. He said to text him anything and was extremely prompt about getting back to me. He arrived on time and did fantastic work on my house. He worked quickly and provided quality work, especially because I have an older home and he had to do some additional work on the doors to get them working properly. I could have hoped for a better result from Angie's list. In addition to the work he did on my house he took a load of scrap lumber, doors, and windows from my house at no extra charge. I strongly encourage anyone looking for work on their house to use Chris and Expert Carpentry. Thanks Chris! Adam

Chris did an amazing job. I had a deck that was being restored by someone else. The person was unable to finish the job and the deck was partially done. So I needed someone short notice to complete the job before winter. Even though it was at a very busy part of the season, Chris was able to squeeze the work in and he did a great job. He was punctual, professional and seemed very knowledgeable of what needed to be done. He came out and spent a few hours working on it and got it done much faster than I had expected and the deck looks great!

Parts of the 20 year-old deck were developing dry rot, and parts were in good condition. Chris replaced the floor of the deck and parts of railings. There is lattice instead of poles in the railing, and parts of the lattice were decayed. Originally, the plan was to replace all the lattice in a panel if some of it was bad. Chris couldn't find lattice that was the same size and since not all the lattice was being replaced, he didn't want there to be two different sizes. He ended up replacing just the planks of the lattice that were bad, which was fine with me - it was less into landfill. It took him two days to do all the work needed. Clean up was excellent: he must have been a boy scout because he left the place better than he found it. The new floor of the deck is beautifully smooth with ho worry about splinters. When my deck needs its next face life, or total replacement, I will surely hope that Chris is available to do it.

It went real well. I would use them again. I think the price was good. They did an excellent job. They were easy to work with and they were very accommodating. They didn't come through the house to work on it. They put a ladder up and came onto the deck.

Everything went great. Chris and his team were very professional and friendly and did an excellent job on our deck. Everything went smooth and was done in the time frame that Chris stated when we first signed the contract. I couldn't have been happier with the experience. One specific thing that we were impressed with was the material supplier that Chris uses had an issue with their truck and were not able to get the material to our house. Instead of making and excuse that would have caused delays, Chris hauled all the material himself to get the job done on time. At one point we considered changing the location and orientation of a stairway. Chris patiently walked through the options with us and while we ultimately kept it where it was originally planned, it was clear Chris wanted us to be happy with the work and would have changed the plan if need be. Overall he was very good to work with and we'd highly recommend him to anyone. He is what you hope for in a contractor and we were very impressed.

Chris was very punctual and his work was great!! He came a second time right away when we needed another board patched. Best of all, he recommended a painter, Tim with Xlnt Painting who turned out to be a careful and talented painter.

I emailed with a request for a bid. Chris responded promptly.

After reading the excellent reviews on here, we contacted Chris to replace the rotted cedar wrap that surrounded the support posts for our front porch roof. I found his price to be reasonable, so he began the job. After digging into it, he discovered the support posts themselves were rotted & the way in which they were built, kind of threw both of us for a loop. He was very patient & understanding of the extra steps I had to take before he could continue his part. Once it was ready for his completion, he finished it immediately. Chris is very professional, knowledgeable, & punctual. I will be hiring him again for other projects.

Sadly, after two weeks and five emails we finally just gave up as all he kept telling us was "I'm behind on my bids" but when I repeatedly asked when I would see information all I would get in return was "Sorry, I'm behind on my bids" . In the meantime we received bids from 3 other contractors and will end up selecting from those.

Chris did a great job adjusting and building two great decks on a duplex I had bought and was doing renovations on. He had great suggestions and modified to a changes as I changed my mind and added features.

Chris is an excellent carpenter. He is honest, creative, patient and able to deal with the unexpected. He was able to work well with my husband and to complete portions of the deck that my husband had not finished. I am looking forward to hiring Chris again in the future.

Our old deck was 30+yrs old and needed to be replaced. Chris came out and talked to us about our options for deck materials. We decided on a cedar deck with an aluminum railing. Because we live on a hill, and you can see under the deck from the backyard, we asked Chris to wrap the green treated posts and header in cedar. His estimate was by far the most reasonable, and after interviewing a few other contractors, we chose Chris. His attention to detail is "expert", and we couldn't be happier with the deck. We will definitely use Expert Carpentry in the future. Chris is mellow, trustworthy, and fun to work with.

We had great communication, the price was very good, work done well and he went out of his way to accommodate my difficult schedule. He's a hard worker. I'd highly recommend him.
