Mike is the 4th cleaner we've had experience with and so far, the best quality (the other 3 businesses were in Texas where we moved from.) There have been a few times a trash can wasn't emptied or a garbage bag wasn't replaced, but that doesn't speak for the outstanding job his team does -- they NEVER miss a floor, countertop, sink, etc. The only reason I bring that up is because I'm a detail-oriented person and like to be up-front about everything. Mike and I communicate over email and he's sent preparation, insurance, and his teams' holiday/time-off (so I can setup another date) documents for the entire year, so there are never any surprises. On a couple of occasions, I forgot to leave a check, to which I emailed him and asked him what he would like me to do. He said to just add it to the next payment. To pay, I've just written a check and left it on the counter. I would like to pay by credit card or automatic debit, but I am unsure if he accepts those as I have never asked. I think by default, they use some eco-friendly cleaner but I requested that they use my cleaning products (which I leave out for them) which Mike had no issue with. We have 2 cats that shed a lot and we never have the whole place picked up completely for the cleaners, but that has not decreased their quality. All in all, I've been extremely happy with his service and believe it's an amazing price/quality ratio. Every couple of weeks I look forward to a nice clean home and I'm never disappointed. I will continue to use Detailed Residential Services and will recommend them to everyone.
Description of Work: I contacted Mike middle winter to setup a bi-weekly cleaning of my girlfriend's and my townhome. The reason I chose him was the above-average reviews here on Angie's List, the way he followed up with every review on here, and his exceptional attitude. Our townhome is 1200 sqft, has 1 bed, 1 "office", and 1.5 bath and costs us $100 every 2 weeks to have his team clean it.

I have had someone clean my house for the past twenty five years. Details is the most professional, well run company I have dealth with to date. The management team is awesome. A very nice ops manager came with the crew the first time to ensure they did a great job, which they did. They are quick, efficient, and thorough. If they were to miss something, all I would have to do is let Mike know and it will be corrected going forward. I would highly recommend them.

I just wrote an extremely favorable review for this company although I am extremely upset and insulted about the way Mike Newcombe treated me. Our house has been messy and disorganized on many occasions~ we have 2 teenagers and my husband and I travel for work. On the first meeting, we were told that the house should be organized. We said that we would try our best but that it would be a challenge. We both agreed constant communication with Mike,asking him to instruct the team to skip any rooms that were deamed unacceptable and charge us regardless. He specifically said that if we didn't communicate, someone might be dissatisfied. We were NEVER informed that there was a problem, as a matter of fact, during the last conversation, the only one that I even guessed that there might have been a problem, Mike asked that my girls pick up their rooms a little more. I asked if this was a problem, and he said he was only aware of 2 times and that it was no big deal. This morning, I called Mike to tell him that our house wasn't prepared and he tolld me that I would be charged anyway. I understood completely and asked if they could just do what they could. The team left without doing anything. I called Mike to ask why they couldn't do some of the rooms. He said it was too messy. We just disagreed. Then he sent me a very upsetting and insulting email after I said I wasn't sure if we should continue working together. He replied by saying we should not. Later I let him know that I had written a favorable review, one of two. We have been so kind and upheld our promise of constant communication. We have been overly generous, giving them a full week's pay for Christmas after just one cleaning. I don't understand why I have been treated in this aggressive and unprofessional manner. In his final email, Mike told me that he was going to post pictures of our messy home on Angie's List and embarrass our family. Please judge the character of this man for yourself and decide if you want a company to come into your home and take pictures to possibly post and embarrass you. We may be guilty of a messy home, but this is a honest mistake. Mike Newcome has proven to be a calculating, unkind businessman. Please review our kind previous comments and him embarrassing pictures of my family home, and again, judge for yourself if you would like to do business with this company.

After taking some time to reflect on this particular member’s report I decided I wanted to do a better job of articulating my response and try and explain the actual situation, so I have asked Angie’s List to remove my first response and post this one. When I first met with this customer I knew this was going to be a challenge; however I decided to take it on because she was such a nice person and I knew she needed help. The first three times we had scheduled meetings to meet at her home, she had to cancel them. On one occasion I actually went to her house, however, she did not answer the door. Her car was in the driveway and I could hear someone in the house. I looked through a semi-opened blind on the front door and all I saw was what I can only describe as garbage and junk all over the entryway. All of the windows throughout the house had the blinds closed, but you could tell that something was against them. We were able to schedule another meeting about 6 weeks later. Upon entering the home I could tell that there had been a lot of stuff removed, however the house was still very much disorganized and extremely dirty. We walked through her entire home and at the end of the walk through I wasn’t sure how to explain to her that her home needed to be in much better shape before we could clean it. I did not want to say her home was a mess, so I just said, “please make sure your home is ready for us and please read the ‘how to prepare your home for the Team’ document that I sent you.” She assured me that her home would ready so we agreed on a start date. The first time we cleaned her home, a two-person team spent over 12 hours cleaning, and needless to say we lost money. I told the Team that I would let the customer know that she needed to do a better job of organizing before the next cleaning. I did say it was “no big deal” when I contacted her; I didn’t want to make her feel bad. Two weeks later it took the same two people over 10 hours to clean her home. This home should take a two-person team about five total man-hours. I wasn’t sure how to approach the customer without hurting her feelings so I did not contact her after the second cleaning. This went on for a few more cleanings until the Team insisted again that I contact her about the condition of her home, so I did. I said it is “no big deal”, but you need to make sure your home is ready for the Team so they can clean it. She told me to just skip the rooms that were not ready, and she would be fine with that. The problem was that every room in the house was filled with garage, clothing, and items that should not be there. The kitchen was filled with pizza boxes, and every drawer was open with stuff falling out. On the morning of Monday the 23rd I received a call from this customer letting me know she wanted to cancel that day’s cleaning. I told her on such short notice per our cancellation policy I would have to charge her since we could not fill the opening and I have to pay my Team. She told me then to have the team come, but the house was a “little messy” so only clean the areas they could clean. When the Team arrived they called me upon entering the home and said there was literally no way they could clean any room in the house. I asked them if they could take a few pictures and send them to me so I could make the determination if we were going to try and clean. The Team sent me some pictures, and I can’t even describe the condition of this home. I told my Team to leave and I’d call the customer. The customer ended up calling me and asked why the Team did not clean. I told her there was no way we could do anything due the condition of her home. She said, “I disagree”, to which I told her I have pictures to show this. She asked me to send them to her so I did. She told me that the pictures I sent her were only of a few rooms in her home, and the other rooms could have been cleaned. I told her I have pictures of every room and I will send those to her, although she sent me a message saying that was not necessary. I then replied that I thought it would be best if we no longer cleaned her home and that I was not going to charge her for the service on the 23rd. Just so every member understands, we do not take pictures of our customers’ homes, however in this situation I needed to let her know that I knew what her home looked like. The last message I received from her said I was a horrible business person and how could I sleep at night? This was a no win situation. In a final act of anger she posted this report. I want every member to know I really feel terrible for this member and her family and we tried very hard to help. We put in a lot of time and energy and lost a lot of money in the process, since every cleaning took twice as long as it should have. In the end, we are just a cleaning company and this member’s home was too far beyond our capabilities. Had this situation happened with any other company, they would have never taken her on as a customer. Please understand I did not want this to end the way it did, but we were simply unable to maintain her as a client. I had no choice. I hope this helps explain the situation so you can come to your own conclusion. Mike Newcome

First time ever having a house cleaning service and we were blown away. They were extremely fast and flexible. After 6 hours they had my list completed and were very accomidating to me adding things here and there and by the time they were done the house was cleaner than the day we moved in. Our only complaint is that we are out of their range for routine cleanings, but they do provide deep cleaning services out in Woodbury. So if Angie list customers can drum up enough interest in them to come out east perhaps we can get them to branch out to our neck of the woods. Overall, we had our expectation exceeded and would recommend to anyone that wants a professional cleaning at a reasonable price.
Description of Work: We bought the Deep Clean Package (2 person crew x 4 hours each = 8 hours total). They cleaned our 4 full bathrooms, Master bedroom, hallways, 2 kid bedrooms, stairs, vacumed and wiped down the entire basement common area (per request), foyer, living room, sitting room kitchen, and mud room. They were very through, cleaning over the kitchen tile floor 3 times (this was due to me adding items to me list after they accomplished my list in less than 6 hours and each time they had to go thru the kitchen they re-moped the tile floor. Very flexible and very through.

Based on its reputation on Angie's List, I had high expectations for my 1-time deep cleaning. The 3-man crew arrived on time and performed a walk around to see what the job entailed. They began the work and seemed to be moving along just fine. In my estimation, the crew seemed to be taking longer than I would have expected. It took over 8 1/2 man-hours to deep clean the requested areas. I received an e-mail from Mike (the owner) about how things went and he mentioned that a walk-through should have been performed...and it wasn't. If it had, maybe it would have identified certain "detailed items" that were missed: tops of the toilet paper holders weren't cleaned; one of the walls in the master bathroom wasn't cleaned; the door knobs on the cabinets in the master bathroom weren't cleaned; the tops of the edges of the counter in the master bathroom weren't cleaned. Overall, the crew did a good job cleaning, but the number of items they missed disappointed me based on my lofty expectations, which were created based on other reviews in Angie's List.

Thanks for taking the time to submit this very honest report. After each “onetime” deep cleaning we ask, when possible, that the home owner do a walk through with the Team at the end of the cleaning. Since this is the first time the team has been in a home things can get missed and having the home owner do a walk through can avoid this. Prior to each onetime deep cleaning we send out our “deep clean check list”, at the end of the check list it states “At the end of the cleaning, if the home owner is home, make sure you do a walkthrough”. After each cleaning I send a follow-up e-mail making sure everything went well and if the home owner has any feedback. This member let me know a few items were missed, and that is great. It’s not great we missed a few items; it was great she let me know so we could rectify the situation. I told the home owner I would not cash her payment until she was satisfied that we did the job she wanted. The home owner sent me a follow-up message saying she was satisfied and that we could deposit her payment. Since we want every customer to be happy I told her if she uses our service again I would give her a 30% discount. The moral to the story is, if something was not up to snuff just let us know and we will do what we can to make it right. Thanks again for this great report and for the feedback. I really appreciate that this member allowed us the opportunity to make sure she was satisfied with our service.

Mike of Detail Residential Services was very helpful and accommodating. He was very willing to tailor the services to meet our needs and even gave me the Angie's List discount. The young man (Chris) that came to do the cleaning was very pleasant and went over my special requests then got right to the work. He did an exceptional job in the kitchen--a huge difference in the cupboards and appliances--and did a fine job in the bathroom and basement. He spent almost 5 hours on the job (most of which was in the kitchen) and he worked non-stop the entire time.

The gentleman who owns the company, Mike couldn't have been easier to work with. He was very accommodating. He was very special. The young man, who is here cleaning now, is just a keeper. He knows what he is doing. He is always on the equipment and it is all very professional. I am very pleased with the way he did a walk through, the questions he asked, and the things he was willing to do. So far, it has been a wonderful experience. I yet have to check the quality of his work though. At his point, I will use them again. I have had cleaning services before but this has been the best interaction I have ever had with a cleaning company. The cleaning is now done. They were extremely professional, courteous an HARD WORKING! Eddie managed some difficult tasks with a smile and a can do attitude. I look forward to a continued relationship. This is the best housecleaning company that I have ever used and am extremely pleased with their service and quality. As an update, I just ready the Provider Response; It sounds too good to be true, but it is!

The Person that worked in her home has been with Details for 5-years, and also happens to be our operations manager. When you are looking at hiring a company that will be working in your home, I think is important to know “who” will be doing the work. Details has 18-fulltime Team members, and most of my Team have been with me for 2-5 years, this is not typical in this industry. My Team members make a good living working at Details, this not a “job” for most of them, it is a carrier. At Details we do not have “employees”, we have Team members! Being on a Team is much different them being an “employee”. I ‘m amazed every day how they not only do their job, but how they help each other, interact with each other, and how they really care about what they are doing. This is a tuff job and sometimes things don’t always go well, but every morning when I walk in to my office I see 18 people laughing, telling jokes, and the most important thing to me is they all have big smiles for me. I am very fortunate to have this business. I started it from the ground up, but without my Team it would not be possible and I know that. I just thought it was important for all the members to know a little more about my Team, they are wonderful people that work hard and try to do a great job. They dusted, cleaned the bathroom, vacuumed all floors and furniture & wet mopped all hard floors (kitchen, dining room, living room, utility room & hallway). They were very friendly, & professional. They did a great job!

We cleaned this customer’s home about 6-7 months ago for the first time; the cleaning went great however the Team forgot to clean the inside of the microwave. After each “deep cleaning” I ask for feedback, this customer let me know we missed the inside of the microwave. I told them we could come back and clean it, or I would give them a 30% discount if they ever used our service again. Sure enough they called us again, we did another cleaning and this time we did not miss the microwave. The point to this story is simple, at Details we stand behind our work, if we don’t get it right the first time, you can bet we will the second. When given the chance to make corrections we always come through. Thanks again for this great report. I called Mike on a Monday to have a moving out clean and some carpet cleaning done on our rental property. I needed a team for the same week, Saturday. Mike responded very quickly and reassured me that the house and carpets could be done on the day requested.The day of the clean the crew arrived promptly. They were courteous, obliging and hard-working. They made sure the rooms with carpets were cleaned first, so that the carpet cleaning crew could start once they arrived a little later.The house was very clean, including walls, inside cupboards and inside the fridge/freezer. The carpet cleaner Mike had organized for us also arrived at the pre-arranged time. The carpets looked like new in no time. I was amazed some of the stains came out!! The whole experience was a pleasant one. The result was that good that our landlady even asked us wether we had lived in the property (with our 3 kids!). It felt stress-free and easy to organize. It definitely made our rush-move a lot less stressful!

We have been using Details for the last year and thier service started out very good but has been diminishing over the last couple months. In the last 2 months we have found more dust bunnies and cobwebs in the missed corners of our home. Not to mention that we have nicks and marks on our walls a trim from the services provided. While I dont expect someone coming in to our home to be gentle I also expect a little care when navigating our home. he final straw is the lack of proper accounting skills on the part of the owner. The owner contacted me regarding a missed payment and I promptly sent a list of payments made and asked the owner to reconcile the services vs the payments. Mike stated that they do not have a way to track services against payments made. My criticism may be a little harsh since I am a business owner myself and expect the same level of professionalism that I display with my business. I would never approach a client about a missed payment without having an invoice number or date to back it up. When Mike was finally able to reconcile the services provided he was accurate in that we did have a missed payment which I promptly paid. We parted ways when we could not come up with a payment method that was mutually beneficial to both parties. My wife and I are technically adept and are free from checks and cash in general. We prefer to send automated payments using Paypal or Scheduled Bill Payments for traceability. Mike asked that I send payment before the service was provided and I am unwilling to do that. Details is unable to accept credit card payments at this time. To Mikes credit he has been in contact with me, I haven't made mention of our dissatisfaction since it was mildly acceptable until this occurred. I guess he has so many customers that he has the luxury of letting clients go. I would do everything In my power to retain clients and I expect more from a professional service that charges close to 3K per year.
Description of Work: We have an 1800 sq ft home and we have Details cleaning 3 bedrooms, 2 bathroom, and the kitchen. While we were still satisfied we had them also preform some yard work around our house until their estimates were triple what the other companies were charging.

Mike is very quick to respond and always accommodating. I originally hired them when I was on bed rest and they were very professional and nice about working around me! Since then, I've had 2 boys and nap times are always changing. Mike has been nice about working around our schedule. We have used the handyman service for many different projects around our house - Ian is awesome! The window cleaning and gutter cleaning crew is excellent as well. We have always been happy with the service and professionalism we have received from Details Residential. I also appreciate the fact that Mike finds various charitable ways to give back to the community. I have priced out competitors and found Details to be very competitive in price too. It is a great company!

First off - I was very pleased with how quickly Mike gets back to you. Communication is excellent. I called hoping to get a deep clean done within two weeks and they were able to accomodate me. The two man crew arrived promptly and were very pleasant - especially to my dogs! We walked thru the house and I showed them the rooms that needed to be cleaned. They immediately set to work and were happy to use products I had. They were here for about 5 hrs. and upon completion asked me to do a walkthru with them. My house was very dusty - and I found a few things that had been missed - but they happily went back and cleaned them. I was very pleased with my clean house - it smelled so good! I would definitely consider hiring them again.

Based on reviews through Angie's List, I was compelled to try this company. I am so happy with the result that I will be engaging them for regular cleanings. I have typically hired a service to clean once a month. Even though I was happy with our other company, I wanted to explore other options and see if we could get a less expense alternative. The team was prompt, friendly, inobtrusive, and efficient. The house looked great. They even asked if I wanted to do a walk-through inspection. I didn't have time for that while there were there, but after they left, I found everything to be as I had hoped. There are a few minor adjustments I would make for the next visit, but no difficiencies on the job (more personal preference around certain things). I highly recommend this company and will continue to use them going forward.

I always hear from new customers that their “old cleaning” company did a good job on the first few cleanings, but things started to fall off going into the 3rd and 4th cleaning. While I hate to say it, this does happen that is why your feedback is so important to us. If after giving feedback things do not turn around you will be looking for another company and we do not want that. The cleaning business is tricky, just remember if things fall off, let us know and see how we react, that is when you will know you have the right cleaning company. Details Residential Services has a window cleaning service (among others). They cleaned my front porch windows including the high dormer windows they sparked in the bright sunlight. They did such a good job I have hired they to do all my lower level widows this fall. I like that Details supports the Animal Human Society and other philanthropically activities. I would highly recommend them to clean your home.
Description of Work: WOW how fast 2 plus years goes by. I found and hired Details Residential Services in June of 2009 to clean my home once a month. Mike Newcome and his team do a fabulous job make sure my home is dust free and shines. I like that they use Minnesota based Restore eco-friendly products to clean my home.

We have our home cleaned every 2 weeks. I also have used this company for gutter cleaning in the fall, yard clean up in the fall and spring, and window cleaning. Mike is great to deal with, straight forward, honest, dependable and compassionate. I have been through many cleaning services and have never kept one for more than 12 months! This company is great!

They have provided great feedback always allowing us the opportunity to make the appropriate corrections and provide a better level service. The key to working with your cleaning company is to make sure it is a true partnership and always keep the lines of communication open. While I would like to say we never miss anything during a cleaning, the reality is things do get missed. After my Teams have been working in a customer’s home for a long time they sometimes get what I like to call “unintentional complacency”. The Teams get so comfortable that they forget to look for the “details”. I think it is great when our customers really take a look at their home after a cleaning and let me know what items need some more attention. They should not have to do this all the time, but it really does help us. Some of our customers give us feedback before and after every cleaning and that is also great, the Teams want to know how they are doing and really respond well to the feedback. I have a great Team that really take pride in what they do. Every time we get feedback we go over it in our morning meeting and if a Team got some constructive feedback they always tell me they will do better the next time, and they mean it. On a side note: November is Animal Humane Society Month at Details! Since I am an animal lover and many of our 218 recurring customers have multiple pets, I have decided to donate $1.00 to the Golden Valley Animal Humane Society for every cleaning we do in the month of November, in the name of all Details customers. Based on our schedule as it looks today, we should be able to generate at least $450.00--$500.00 in donations. Bonus Donation Angie’s List members that would like to let other members know how your experience has been with Details, we will make another donation. For every Angie’s List member that submits a report in the months of October and November, we will donate an additional $5.00. Mike Newcome was quick to reply to my inquiry and was very clear in making all of the arrangements. He was able to set up the cleaning within a one week window. The staff clearly have a great system for organizing the work and tackled the task with great efficiency. They were also prompt, accommodating (I had a plumber there too), and polite. The team lead walked through the house with me at the beginning and the end. A day later, I will admit I could find a small spot or two that had been missed, but it wasn't significant enough for me to have seen it on the walk through. And the rest of the 2200 square feet was wonderfully clean.

We use Details Residential Services on a continuous basis and every experience has been a positive one. They are prompt, quick to respond to any requests, professional and always do an amazing job. Everyone on the team is really nice and great to work with. We just moved houses and Mike came out as soon as we called to reassess our cleaning needs and was able to quickly get us back in rotation after we took some time off to move. We also needed lawn care at the last minute before we went out of town and Mike was able to quickly get someone to come over the very next morning. Everything was taken care of before we went to work which was a huge relief for us. Again, we highly recommend Details Services - we have been extremely pleased and they are always the first person we call when we need help with the house.

Arrived at 8:10 AM and clocked in at that time. I gave them a tour of the spaces and outlined my expectations. They brought in their equipment and went to work. They used Restore Products, an environmentally friendly line of cleaning products. They were fast but did not rush. It was a very hot day and I offered them with lemonade which they seemed to enjoy. At about noon they were done with the attic. Both the attic and the basement are about 1,000 s.f. each...it was a big, nasty job. They finished and on the way out cleaned off the front steps.
Description of Work: We've had alot of remodeling work done in the last few years and used our attic as the staging area. Its an unfinished room and it was dusty, had lots of sawdust and junk accumulated and the usual piles of dead flies. The basement is finished and has been used as an apt. by our 16-19 year old son whose not much of a housekeeper. It was desperately in need of a thorough cleaning. Mike sent two guys out early on the following Saturday. I expected them to take all day but they were finished with both spaces by 2:30 PM. They hauled stuff out to a dumpster, cleaned, dusted, mopped and did an absolutely amazing job. They worked nonstop, no cell phone or cigarette breaks. Very polite, thoughtful young men. Their supervisor got done early at another job site and came over to help them for about an hour and didn't charge me for his time. They were fantastic!

Over the last few years we have really enjoyed working with all the Angie’s list members. What a great tool! However, I have been noticing - and not just in the reports on our company - that when someone has had a “bad experience,” they have been gradually getting more personal and sometimes even malicious in how they grade and comment on a company. We have had good luck with Angie’s List (see our reports), although I have been subtly threatened at times that if I didn’t do a great job, I would be trashed on Angie’s List, and that’s a bit harsh. Some take it a little too far. If you had a bad experience in which no one attempted to address your issues, then of course let people know. This is a venue to rate services and how well each company did the job they were hired to do. When doing so, we just ask that people please be personally respectful, and keep in mind the impact your words can have on a small business. Perhaps put yourself in the position of the companies you are rating. How would you like your job to be graded each day then posted for your coworkers to see? At Details, we acknowledge that there may sometimes be issues and that everything may not always be perfect, and we always try our best to resolve issues with our customers. However, we also find from time to time that there are some customers that, no matter how hard you try, you will never satisfy. It happens. Angie’s List does not post members’ names in the feedback, so some think it is completely anonymous, but each company gets a copy of all reports with the names of the people who posted. Angie’s list is a power resource for consumers and for companies like ours, and again, we enjoy working with the Angie’s community! I hope this is taken in the positive manner that it was intended. We would just like to warn of the impact that derogatory or disrespectful comments can have, given that we have seen them increase over the years. Details cleaned my house on four occasions. The work was usually pretty good, especially on the third visit when they thoroughly removed plaster dust from my house. Things went pretty bad when one of their workers broke a bit of pottery that my aunt had made and given to me 20 years ago. The details are unimportant, but given that this item was in a room I didn't want anyone to go into and also that it was sentimental, more was at stake than would have been if it were something I had purchased from a run-of-the-mill retailer. I decided to stop using Details because of how Mike handled the situation. My first draft of this review was detailed. He wrote a retort that accused me of being a liar and a racist, to which I defended myself and moved on. Then, on the morning of October 11th, 2011 at 9:21am, seven weeks later, Mike sent this message to my personal email account : I just wanted to thank you for your Angies List reports. Your reports have generated more business for us based on your ?testimony? then(sic) any ?A-repost? ever has. I have had more members comment that I did the right thing and that you must have ?too much time on your hands?. It is easy for members to see when we have 95% ?A-reports? that there will always be one or two people, like you, that feel they need to be vindictive. They have also commented that you did the same thing to (another service provider), when they commented on your report. Thanks again, if you decide to do another posting please make sure you mention the glue, my employees, and the creamer, those have been big hits. In the future, keep in mind, while ?Angies List? is not liable for your words, you are. :-) In my business, you never send cocky messages like that to a disappointed customer. I took down my original review because, frankly, I just want him to leave me alone. In the end, it's his antagonistic attitude that was the greatest disappointment and I think his own words illustrate why better than mine did. I am very satisfied with the new company I am using to clean my home - whom I also found on Angie's List - and, though I wish him all the best, I would never recommend Mike to anyone. At this point, I'd just like to move on.
