SCOTT PIONK SODDING & LANDSCAP

I believe we were his first job in the spring of 2012: Scott was to re-sod our back yard and re-sod a portion of our front yard. We discussed the problems we had with the existing yard: uneven (lumpy) grassed areas, low spot where rainwater or melting snow pooled, existing sod was installled over "hardpan" subsoil without any topsoil when the house was originally landscaped in 1990. Pionk was aware of the problems as he indicated to us that he had done the original landscaping for the builder. The initial result of his installing new sod was satisfactory. We poured tons of water on a large backyard to insure that the sod rooted properly. As the summer progressed, we became aware of places in the yard where the topsoil Pionk installed was not evenly distributed: despite the constant watering, we were ending up with dry spots. We also had numerous places where the sod seams were not butted properly and we ended up with holes in the yard. I called to complain and did not receive the courtesy of a return phone call. I wrote a letter of complaint that included the fact that I felt we had been overcharged: we had postponed doing the re-sodding in the front yard until autumn. When we became unhappy with the back yard, we cancelled the front yard work and we were never reimbursed for that. I never got a response to my letter. Pionk was paid for the entire job (both front and back) at the conclusion of the back yard job. (Probably our mistake.) After the winter, we were unhappy to learn that a large area (about 6 square yards) that we had identified as a problem (the low spot where rain/snow melt pooled) had been totally killed (water and ice had pooled and then thawed and frozen multiple times causing winterkill). We had to have that area re-sodded this spring. We continued to have problems this summer (2013) with dry areas and holes where the sod seams gapped) that will have to be addressed next spring/summer. In addition, in manuvering his equipment in and out of the back yard, Pionk (or his workers) sprung our fence gates and that had to be repaired.
