In June of 2018 Steven Hatcher from SafeGuard home inspection came and inspected the home we were purchasing. The report he gave stated little to concerned about so we believed everything was great and went forward with the purchase. However when we then moved in it’s been nothing but problems and at this point it has financially ruined our family. The things he missed are staggering. Plumbing, electrical and structural. We got two licensed plumbers who are home inspectors and one electrician. All of them said he is either blind, ignorant and incompetent or he did a professional favor for the seller who was also a supposed licensed home inspector. Or all of the above. We can’t use the washer because it’s plumbed into the sump pump tied incorrectly into the sewer line. We can’t use the dishwasher because the drain line was put in the main sewer line and caulked to seal it, this was blatantly visible and not code. Shower put in upside down, sink not mounted or plumbed correct. Exposed wiring and so much more that it take a book to write it all down. He is not an inspector but a fraud and I’m sure lazy because he did a lousy job. We can’t drain water we barely can use one toilet. We are devastated. We talked to a lawyer but it would be over 20k, the work is over 50k or more. If he just did his job and caught even a fraction of the major code violations we would never had bought. We put our life savings in to buy and now we have no way to fix this we may have to just walk away. The inspectors we paid after the fact couldn’t believe he could be that bad. If we gotten a real inspector we wouldn’t be in this mess. We found out any fool can be an inspector in this state there are no requirements. We found out the hard way and it cost us everything. If we could give him lower than an F we would. Please don’t ever ever use Him.

Went okay but some issues were not discovered. Most notably, a sunroom footing that needed repair, garage door opener that did not work, and sticking patio door. Also, some very minor things were noted in the report, which were of little concern compared to these. Good to point them out I suppose, but not good to miss some more significant things. I did appreciate the willingness to answer some questions via email after reviewing the report. I might hire again but I would shop around first.

10/2015 , we had a home inspection. The inspector missed defects in the brand new roof that was installed by builder, the installation of the roof had 2 chimney flashings never replaced / ice / water shield never added. The 2 flashings leaked rain/ snow into the attic causing all the insulation to get wet, came thru the ceilings , 20% mold growth. Missed the garage furnace not working, Central Air unit hadn't worked in years ( fan came on, condenser was shot) , cold air returns were sealed shut, 10 electrical outlets not working, 2 outside outlets not grounded . The plumbing had leaked under the bar because the plumbing was never sealed causing water to pour into the raised floor/ into all the Sheetrock in the basement causing black mold. We only have 2 livable spaces in our 2900 square foot home. Since purchasing this home, we have over $80,000 in non disclosure / $40,000 in mold remediation . and non of this was caught by the inspector. When we called this inspector back to the home, he said " I stand by my inspection" . We have over 150 pictures/ 5 contractors who cannot believe this wasn't caught by the inspector. Please don't use him, pay a contractor, it's worth every penny! Our 289,000 house is worth 0 because of Steve , we relied on his inspection as the previous owners disclosed nothing. Please beware!!!

Description of Work: Bill is extremely knowledgeable with like 30 years as a general contractor experience AND now 20+ years as a home inspector under his belt. He was very thorough, didn't rush, and even answered some questions for us for what we would like to do with remodeling. I trusted his opinion and judgement complete. HIGHLY recommend.

Mr. Hatcher arrived 30 min. before the inspection to get ready. He shared with me the plan for the inspection. He was very thorough in his process. He had a plan for the inspection. We were done in 2 hours and he had pictures and explanation for each the findings that needed to be fixed. He was very good.

Called Steve on the recommendation of a realtor. He explained everything he does as part of the home inspection, answered all my questions. Scheduled and did the home inspection, even tho my wife and I were unable to be there, which he prefers. Recieved the email and photos, and then the hard copy of the report of home inspection.
Description of Work: Steve inspected a house before the purchase of it.
