Touch-up grouting was a bit of an issue and some touch-up still needs to be done. It took longer than I thought it would. At least one of the vendors did not provide what I had asked for. One provided a vanity basin without an overflow drain which I specifically asked to have (but I can live with), contractor wasn't good about cleaning up after himself. Written cost estimate was seriously lacking in detail but fortunately the contractor was good about remembering things that we had discussed. Contractor did not leave installation instructions for shower, ceiling heater, shower, etc. I had to call the contractor back a few times. Didn't help that he lost my key. Fortunately he had a locksmith change my lock at his expense. Gap left between wood inside door frame and the door frame itself. Used a pneumatic nailer. Space was covered but the brads left splits in the wood which I will have to patch and stain. Going on line I discovered that there were instances where he should have used a sealer between the tub faucet plate and the tile which he did not do. All said I'm not terribly pleased with his work. should have gone with the first contractor (M and L Haugen Inc) that had remodeled my kitchen.

He charged me $200 and that was the last I heard. I would think twice about paying them just to come out and look. I still have to get the work done. He was a nice person but when he sent me the bill, I wondered what happened.
Description of Work: I had Gordy Johnson Construction come out to look at something with my bathroom.

The tile in our shower was separating from the wall causing rather dramatic leaking. We were concerned that there might be substantial rotting as a result. We were only going to get a surround installed, but decided to see how much it would cost for further remodeling. Before we got to Gordy, we had already gotten 2 estimates. Each one looking better than the last. However, when Gordy arrived to give us an estimate, it was abundantly clear that he had far more experience than the other two companies. He knew things we couldn't have even thought of to ask. We asked him what we could get done for $5,000.00. He said he'd be able to replace tub/shower, toilet, vanity, faucets, tile and fix portions of other walls that weren't exactly perfect. We still talked with one other company, but that company wasn't appropriate for our needs and we decided on Gordy. When he was giving us the estimate he said that work could start in about 3 weeks after we informed we would chose him. Once we informed Gordy of our choice, he put at tub and surround on hold for us. He told us to pick out the fixtures and tile. The company Gordy chose for the tub/shower also sold fixtures, so we picked things out and they sent a bid to Gordy. After the information was in, he gave us a bid that fit the $5,000 budget with the extra cost for the kind of toilet we wanted and a new top for the vanity. We checked that we wanted the extras which brought the total to $5,250. Gordy called the day before the project to let us know they would be starting and at what time they would arrive. They arrived on time the next morning. First of all, they laid down carpet shield on our carpet to protect it. Because I am disabled, he asked where I would be sitting so as to put the carpet shield down where they would be walking given where I'd be sitting. Gordy had his son and another worker with him to start the job. As the day(s) went on, Gordy would pop in and out the help out while the other two men worked. All 3 of the men were quite personable with me and my 11 year old son. I actually enjoyed having the men in the house. The men worked, what I thought were, long days starting before 8 am and going sometimes until 5 pm or more with an hour lunch. On most days they had to reinstall my old toilet so we had it to use for the night. Although there was one night we had no toilet. This was because they had put down the new tile and it could not be walked on for 24 hours. So we made arrangements to stay elsewhere for the night. Work was finished on the 5th day of work. We happened to find a leak after the work was done. I left a message with Gordy and he quickly sent his son out to fix the problem. Although it took 2 times to fix the problem, that is only because it wasn't obvious. I only mention the leak as a way to lillustrate that they came to fix the problem quickly and to let me know they stood behind their work.
