TOP LINE FENCE

A team of at least 5 guys came out one morning and tore out the old fence. They set the new fence posts and cleaned up the job site. By the time they left, it was pouring rain, but they kept working steadily. A week later, some of them came back and assembled the rest of the fence. The fence is GORGEOUS (Bufftech Chesterfield) and I never have to paint it again!! What surprised and pleased me the most about the project was that the team left the 30 feet of perennial garden against the fence undisturbed. I'm not sure how they did it; I imagined we would have to re-build the garden after they were gone. But it looks great!

Some of the sections of my 13 year old fence had started to lean about a year ago, which didn't make me very happy as the original contractor who installed it said the fence would be good for 20 years. This spring, the strong winds we experienced blew 3 sections to the ground, so I knew I had to fix it. I was not going to use the original contractor again, so I called several contractors for estimates, only to be disappointed in finding out that either they do not repair fences installed by other contractors or they would not be able to do the job for 3 or more months. I then called Dan at Top Line Fence, who came out to look at the fence and told me he could repair it and do the job within 6-7 weeks. His estimate also seemed reasonable and he said he would charge me no more that the estimate, and less if the job went well. He also informed me that the original contractor used 3.5" fence posts instead of the 4.0" fence posts which are standard, and that likely contributed to the fence's early demise. About 7 weeks later, Dan's crew of 5 guys showed up on the appointed day bright and early to do the job. I talked to Jake, the crew leader, to make sure he understood which of the posts (8 total) needed to be replaced and which did not (6 total). For the posts that did not need to be replaced, I asked that they fortifity them by adding more concrete at the base to provide extra strength and also fill some gaps that had appeared, which provided a pathway for water intrustion. The crew took about 3 hours to do the job, with Dan also arriving to help about half way through. The repaired fence looks good with properly sized fence posts that appear to be of good quality. I also got new fence post caps for all the posts which look good and are more sturdy than the old ones. Dan charged me a little less than the amount of my bid due to the job going well, as he said he would. My only complaint is that one of the posts that was not replaced was not fortified with more concrete at the base as per my instruction. As a result, it is looser and more wobbly than it should be while the rest of the posts (both new and old) are tight and solid. I hope to have this addressed some time in the future when Top Line may be working in my neighborhood. But overall, it was a pleasure to work with Dan and Top Line Fence and I highly recommend them.

Dan was punctual, professional and honest. He looked at the broken fence as well as the existing fence. The posts weren't cemented in so it turns out that we can fix the fence ourselves. Dan gave advice as to what wood to look for, sizes, how to do the project including how to reinforce my fence to prevent further problems as well as discussing the landscaping around the fence to avoid future problems. Called to get s estimate on a fence repair . Described the job scope, Asked me to send pictures which I did. Set up a tentative appt.to come look at job, never showed up and did call to let me know they were not coming to look at fence. Never got back to me.

I set up an appointment with Dan for an estimate and he never showed up. When I called he said he didn't have me on the schedule, didn't recognize my name and would not be able to make it out to do the estimate. We chose not to reschedule and will find another company to perform the work. We took this as a sign of how a service with this company would go.

Although Dan probably prefers to install new fences compared to fixing up a 40+ year old one, he was prompt, courteous and amiable in providing recommendations and a pricing estimate. He did not give me a hard sell on replacing my existing fence judging that it was well-built and in good shape for its age. Maynard did a great job cleaning up the fence and staining its many surfaces. I enjoyed my interactions with both of them and felt that I was doing business with a company I liked and was continuously treating me responsively and fairly.

He didn't charge me anything and I wasn't there when he came by. He left me a can of paint to use and I haven't heard anything back from him so that impressed me. He did take the time to come out and do little tiny things because I understand it was a big trip but I don't know where they are exactly and then he didn't charge me. I would definitely go with them again if I needed work done on my chain link fence. I think I went online and looked up fence companies and I always look for companies with excellent ratings and as I went done the line I called different companies and I think he was first one that said that he would be willing to come out to my area so that was what made me go with them. His availability was why I went with him.

Of the three companies we contacted, Dan at Top Line Fence was the only one to show up on time and provide a professional quote. He offered suggestions and solutions to questions. The employees were clearly professional and worked as a team with quality results in a timely manner. They also were courteous enough to survey the area for debris or trash and removed any construction material. We would highly recommend Top Line Fence.

Dan, the owner of "Top Line" gave the 1st bid of 3 "Super Service" award winning fence companies. I was unsure of whether I wanted to go iron, wood or vinyl and he spent a good amount of time going over the pros and cons of each, leaving me with brochures to think it over. He was personable and real. The other two companies sent "salesmen". Good salesmen, but still salesmen. When I decided on wood and looked at my quotes, I was happy to see that Dan offered the best price in that medium. We were notified the evening before the demolition/post setting and were given a date for the panels to go in. Dan later called to say they could actually come a day earlier than expected. I was a little worried about my landscaping because it was kind of in the way, but damage was minimal. They were conscientious, punctual, tidy and put up a beautiful fence.

We did not end up going with them because they were higher cost than the other quotes but they were very responsive to our request and providing an estimate.

Called the company at 9:13am on a Tuesday. Individual who answered the phone sounded as though they just woke up and did not even announce the company's name. After explaining that I would like a quote on placing 40 fence posts and 4 gates with them providing the labor and supplies their spokesperson said "umm, well we are pretty busy". Confused because I didn't request any time frame. After beating around the bush for a bit he finally said they were busy and basically was not interested in this type of job because he could make more money elsewhere. I wish they would have been professional. I don't mind someone saying "sorry, we don't provide those services" but beating around the bush and implying that my fence is not worth his time took unprofessionalism to a whole new level.

The remnants of the old wood fence were removed. One cement footing for the old wood fence had to be dug out and removed to make way for a new footing. The work crew were very efficient and very professional. The project only required about an hour and a half to complete. A broken top rail fitting necessitated a return trip 2 days later to finish the top rail work. The final result is very professional looking and quite attractive. The initial quote was done promptly. Once we signed and returned the contract with our down payment, however, we had some difficulty getting a commitment from Top Line Fence to get the work done. A very rainy June did not help. Once these issues were resolved, the project was quickly completed.

Top Line did a very good job taking out and replacing one side of my backyard chainlink fence. They cleaned up after the job thoroughly. The final price was exactly the same as the estimate. I believe I paid a high price for the job and Top Line told me that basically it was a very small job for them and they had to make some money on it to make it worth their while. I had trouble finding a contractor who would take the job, as my homeowners insurance would not pay to have the entre fence replaced, only the damaged side. I had a succession of contractors and handymen come out, who ended up telling me it was either too small or too big a job for them to do. So I was relieved when Top Line said they'd do it. As I said, they did a very good, professional job, but the price was on the high side and my homeowner's settlement did not cover the whole thing.

He never bothered calling back to come out to do an estimate. Yellow pages also say "we show up". No they don't. If you want to stay in business you really need to call people back. Do NOT recommend to anyone. Very unprofessional!ev

Respondent wasn't interested in coming some distance to see my broken fence and then possibly returning to repair it. His shop is possibly 30 miles away from my broken fence. His response was, unfortunately for me, quite similar to responses given by other recommended fence companies.

He was prompt, professional, and detailed. He explained everything very clearly. The only reason we did not select this company is because another company offered a lower price. We would consider using him in the future and recommend this company to friends.

Had them come out for a quote and had a great experience. I chose another company, as it sounded like they'd be able to get the work done quicker (I have a 6 month old puppy and wanted the fence complete as quickly as possible). I wish I would have gone with Top Line!

We had a very particular problem that Dan helped us solve. We had a garden structure with an old and well-established grapevine woven into the top. The posts had started to rot and the structure was leaning badly. Dan showed up with three guys and, one post at a time, while keeping the top of the structure elevated, they swapped new posts in for the old ones. It was amazing to see. The grapevine suffered no damage at all, the structure is now square and stable, and our costs were minimal, compared to the cost of replacing the whole structure (which we'd feared we'd have to do). This is the third project Dan has done for us and his creativity, high standards, and professionalism will keep us coming back for more.

It's holding up just fine now. The entire process took about 5 days. The entire experience was good.

Great work and responsibility

I received 4 estimates and was most satified with Dan and his team. I had about 213 area to cover and several people told me it would cost about 10k or more and it was pretty darn close. I have to say I could not have asked for a better team of team of workers. They called and set up a time that worked for me, and did what they said they would do in just a week. Thank you Dan, Jake and Luke you will always be appreciated in mine and my neighbors heart for help making all our yards look much better. Z

Came out very quickly for a quote. He was very professional. Came back for second quote when we had questions. Could sometimes be hard to get a hold of. Also, there was a delay because they ordered the wrong gate.

Dan and his team are great people and some of the best contractors I've worked with. They are competitively priced as the other major fence companies but add a bit of that small company personality and care for your project that you do not get with the big guys. They were able to adjust the plans for some very unique landscaping obstacles and even with that the finished product was better then my high expectations.
