Description of Work: I did not use sunset to complete any work but of the 3 companies I contacted to request information on stucco repair, they responded quickly and provided useful information and the next steps I should take in getting a clear picture of the underlying moisture problem. They also provided me a referral to a company to do the moisture testing. I used that company and had a very good experience with them.

Pretty poorly.
Description of Work: I asked for a quote, set up an appointment. The salesman met me at the scheduled time. I spoke with him for 1/2 hour. Since I am looking for exterior work, he asked would it be okay if he sent craftsmen over when I wasn't home for the estimate. I agreed to that, then he told me that he was going to be on vacation, and to give him a couple of weeks for the estimate. I agreed to that as well, as I was waiting for a couple of other estimates and financing. He followed up a week and a half later with an e-mail to tell me he was still working on it. It's been 3 weeks and I have heard nothing more, which is disappointing. I will not be using this company because of the lack of communication.

Response from Barrier Construction LLC
Response: This particular project invloved several tades from asphalt roofing & membrane roofing, carpentry to fencing. My goal was to attain a fair membrane roof price from a third party vendor. It took a little longer than expected to find a good company to fit this size project. I agree, I could have communicated a bit better. In the end I did provide the customer an estimate about 2 days after her posting

Sunset did an amazing job for me. My job was really small and I didn't think anyone would bother helping me. I sent an email to Matt through Angies List and received a response almost immediately. Matt's father took on my job and was so much fun to have here. Its not often you can get a stucco master to do your little fix it projects. The project was completed right on time and the stucco matches perfectly, both in color and texture, which is huge considering that the old stucco is probably 40+ years old. Sunset handled me and my project beautifully. I will be contacting them in the future for my construction needs and highly recommend them.

Matt Roach and the whole sunset team were great to work with. Things were done promptly and neatly and the project was completed on time. We enjoyed working with their designer, who helped us with a complete redesign of the front of our home. The whole team had great ideas that came together as a beautiful final result. Cost was in line with other bids we received. The few minor problems we had were resolved quickly to our satisfaction - usually just miscommunication between the general and subcontractors.
Description of Work: We had moisture damage to the stucco on the front of our home. Sunset did a compete tear off of old stucco, repair of underlying moisture damage, reflashing of the windows, application of new insulation and stone/siding, build up of new decorative pillars and design accents.

They have rebuilt a number of stucco homes. I am usually hired by the home owner to oversee the rebuilding of houses. When people with housing defects need to get them fixed I become the home owner?s advocate to assist them in getting their houses fixed. I have used them for a project on a one-year-old house. They removed four inches of stucco above every window and door in the house and put in proper flashing and re-stuccoed the four-inch patch. I am very impressed with their work. I have worked with them on probably 20 projects here in the last three years. We haven?t done much stucco work. Most of these were stucco homes that we were rebuilding. They are very good at flashing things properly. They specialize in it. All but one of the projects that I have been involved in were done in a very timely manner. They are reasonably priced too.
Description of Work: I have overseen a lot of stucco work by Sunset Construction Group Inc. I haven’t had them work directly for me, but as a consultant I routinely oversee their work on other people’s homes.

Fantastic. Matt took a great deal of time explaing extactly what needed to get done. He then watched over the job constantly updating us on the progress. The work was very hard to do and they did it better than we could ever have imagined. Amazing professionalism and crew. Highest quality work I have seen. Do not hestitate to work with Sunset for they make tough jobs seem easier.

Sunset's President, Matt Roach, worked with me as I was buying a Stucco home that had some water intrusion issues. He put together a comprehensive plan based on the inspection done by another party as well as his physical inspection of the property. The buying of the home took some time and he was willing to consult with me on questions I had as the negotiation took place. Once we closed on the home he started the work quickly and had crews onsite over a 2 week period to pull off stucco and brick, repair water damage, wrap windows appropriately, reinstall brick the right way, repair the stucco, caulk around the whole house, and paint the exterior to match the existing stucco. In the end the final product is amazing! Throughout the project Matt and his crews were professional and courteous. In the middle of the project I added to the scope of the project as I wanted to expand the 3rd stall garage door. They came in with a very reasonable bid and did this work quickly and kept me apprised of the progress as well. All in all, I would recommend Matt and Sunset Construction to anyone and I will definitely use his services again.

I did not use them, we purchased the house, but, the seller of the house used them for stucco work which was a fairly large project. We did take control of the house last Friday and the work is completely done. We had a certified moisture inspector go out and look through the project as it was being done and at the completion of the work, so, I know that the work was done fairly wonderfully well. It is a family run business that has done construction on stucco work for years. He is a very well qualified young man and runs a very good remediation business. I got his name from the certified moisture inspector that I found on Angie?s List actually. They got all the work done that they were suppose to get done. The quality of the work was great.

Upon inspection by a potential buyer of our home, moisture was found around 2 of our front windows. Knowing that this could be a deal breaker with the buyer, we contacted Matt at Sunset Construction. They came out that very day and met with us. Next Matt put together a scope of work which was very detailed in terms of what he thought the potential problem and cost would be. In order to reassure the buyer and save the deal, Matt was willing to meet with the buyer, the buyer's Realtor, and the buyer's inspector to explain to them the issue and the solution. Matt's expertise and professionalism was apparent to everyone involved and saved the deal.
Description of Work: Repaired a moisture issue with our front windows that were installed with a stucco and stone exterior. Removed stucco and stone around window areas so they could inspect the extent of water intrusion and properly rewraped and waterproofed the window areas. Reinstalled the stone and stucco finish to correctly channel water away from the house while aesthetically blending the stone and stucco to match the existing exterior.

We worked with Matt Roach/Sunset Construction the summer of 2007 and they were known as Remodel Specialty. They recommended by our Realtor. We got two other bids which came in significantly higher than RSI. Final bill came out to almost exactly what was estimated, although subcontractors bills varied (e.g. siding bill was 2x estimate, but other pieces were lower). Overall RSI s subcontractors seem to have done good work. The carpenters were especially good. RSI did a poor job of dealing with damage done to our driveway by other subcontractors. Work progressed at a steady pace although it took a month to wrap up the last few details. RSI rarely contacted us with progress updates; we had to contact them. Price = good, work = good, customer service = room for improvement.
Description of Work: Remodeling project -- adding a finished area into a garage/workshop area. They organized all subcontractors including foundation concrete work, carpentry, HVAC, drywall, siding, electrical. The bulk of the work took about 1 1/2 months to complete. The overall project was about 3 months in duration.

Matt responded to my email promptly saying his father Mike would contact us to schedule an estimate. He arrived punctually & was very upfront with us saying our project was too small for them. He did, however, highly recommend Scott from Modern Exteriors, from whom we had also gotten a bid. Mike was kind enough to give us some pointers on how to do the caulking ourselves & to be sure that the other windows in our home were also caulked properly as a preventative measure. Mike and Matt were very nice & should the need ever arise we will contact Sunset.

Excellent. Contractor is the best we have ever worked with. All of the work done was top notch. They replaced a glass panel of the deck railing, that was broken during the repairs, without any reminders from us. The attention to detail was excellent. Contractor received an independent moisture analysis of the house and prepared his bid from that report. No other contractor that we spoke to was willing to give reasonable assurances on the scope of the project. This was critical to us, since the financial incentives of most contractors would be to expand the scope midway through, and simply raise the project's cost. Contractor charged us the low end of his estimate. We were in part lucky that the water damage behind the stucco was not extensive, but even luckier to find a contractor that stuck to his word, and did not raise the cost midway. It was a pleasure doing business with Sunset and we would chose them again for other projects in the future.
Description of Work: We had some water damage and hired them to fix it all of it. This involved removing Stucco and replacing rotted wood and then re-stuccoing and painting to match the rest of the house.

Extremely well. Work started on time, finished early and was less than the estimate. We did not have to clean up anything after they left.
Description of Work: I contacted the company regarding repair work. Within 48 hours, Matt Roach reviewed the required repairs and provided an estimate. His crew arrived the following week, on time and were skilled, knowledgeable, polite and very tidy. The work was completed to our satisfaction ahead of schedule and included repair to stucco walls, windows, doors, deck, chimney and painting services. I would categorize Sunset Construction as more of a general contractor but I did not see that category.

We signed the contract in November '06, scaffold installation and work began in December '06 and Sunset got it to the "brown coat stage", which is very acceptable for the winter months' weather. The scaffold remained in place over the winter months, which Matt made sure was okay with us. Once the temperatures were high enough to continue work, the final coating, painting and texturing (matching the existing stucco areas not needing remediation) was completed, including the caulking of windows and doors. Interior painting of three new windows was also completed when it was warmer, so they could be left opened for drying purposes. A crew came back to finalize every detail that we had on our "punch list".
Description of Work: After having moisture testing completed on our stucco exterior areas, there were areas that needed remediation. We hired Sunset Construction Group, Inc. to complete demolition and repair of stucco; remove and replace three windows with proper wrapping methods; install flashing (kick-out, deck & re-roof); caulk and seal all windows and transitions to flat roof areas and install roof shingles. All work was completed in a manner as prescribed by Moisture Warranty Corporation, and Matt is a certified contractor.

SMOOTHLY and PROFESSIONALLY! We would have ABSOLUTELY NO HESITATION IN RECOMMENDING MATT TO ANYONE! The contract was signed in November, selections were made and the project demolition started on January 11th and I was able to start priming walls by February 13th. Being employed for two remodelers in the past and also having completed a recent kitchen project, Matt was very willing to work with us by allowing us to use several sub-contractors that we had used in the past. His only requirement was that they supply materials as needed to keep the project moving forward in a timely fashion. Matt regularly stopped in to see the project progress, kept in touch with us if he had questions or we needed his recommendations and very attentive to us as clients. Matt is very detail oriented and expects that of those who work for him. The shower enclosure installer commented on how much easier his job was due to the fine quality of the tile setter. All areas were kept as clean as possible.
Description of Work: Using the existing footprint of the room, updated a Master Bathroom by removing all existing cabinetry and plumbing fixtures, including a whirlpool tub. A second sink was added and the shower enclosure was enlarged in the space. The subfloor was pulled up and re-done and some framing was also necessary. Electrical was brought up to code and new lighting was installed. New sheetrock was installed as needed; new cabinetry, new toilet and plumbing fixtures were installed. The shower enclosure floor was tiled with marble mosaic tile, the walls were done in subway tile and the bathroom floor was tiled with the mosaic tile.

This was a very large project, it started out a giant hole in the back yard soon after the concrete block went up followed by framing a roof, windows and finally siding, on the inside after they insulated and put the Sheetrock up they were done, I finished the rest, the project took 3 months from start to finish, I was kept very well informed of what was going on from day to day, they cleaned up each night a very good experience!
Description of Work: Addition to a 7 year old house, this is a 4 level split type of home we added on to the first and third levels which pushed the whole back of the house out 14' it made out master bedroom twice the size and our family room much bigger.
