Original installer (Gates) had been back many times to repair, but never seemed to be a permanent fix. Gates Management eventually told me if there was any more lifting from the wind, I would need to pay for repair. I called other companies for estimates and Midwest was reasonable, professional, and timely. So, I chose them over Gates. They made the repair, once, and it has been fine ever since!
Description of Work: Aluminum siding as well as soffit/fascia on back of house had lifted in a few places from the wind.

They rang our doorbell unsolicited and asked if we wanted them to inspect our roof for hail damage. We gave them permission and they did find damage. They explained that they would work with our insurance company to secure a claim if we signed a contract with them to do the work. The insurance company proceeds would be the cost of the project. The claim was approved but not until mid to late November so the project was put on hold until spring.. Meanwhile we requested homes we could visit with roofing materials and color that we had selected and a scope of work to be completed on their letterhead. We expressed a strong desire to get the repairs completed in early spring and assumed that would be no problem because we would be first in line come spring. After not hearing from them in March we called to get the status, the addresses and a scope of work. After a couple of calls we got the addresses. They said they would do and quot;everything the insurance company claim coveredand quot; so we asked for that in writing and never got it. We did get a list of all the materials and warranties that would be used. In April they said they wanted to pick up a check for the initial payment from the insurance company. We agreed to give them payment when the job got started. They said the job couldn't even get on the schedule until the payment was made. Had we known that in February the payment would have been made. It was now mid April, the first time we were asked for a payment, we were not on the schedule yet and we learn that the roofing job would be scheduled separately from the other repairs. So now the job which hasn't been scheduled is being broken up into parts creating further delays. This lack of responsiveness led to mistrust and we decided we could not do business with people we could not trust. On May 1st, we informed them that we were going to find someone else to do the work. The office got engaged but by now it was too late. We had discussion with office support and then the owner called to find out even more specifically what went wrong. He was very rude with my wife and then with me. He would not accept no for an answer, would not listen to our concerns, ranting about how long he's been in business and demanding 25% to cancel the contract. or how his attorney's will be all over us. This just reaffirmed our decision to not do business with these people. The rep who contacted us initially and followed up with the insurance company to get the claim approved, really worked hard to get our business. We just felt that once they had secured the business the service levels dropped precipitously. We offered to give them 10% of the proceeds in recognition of the work that was done and that was accepted. We filied 2 complaints. One with the Better Business Bureau and another with the Attorney General. In thier response, Midwest mischaracterized the relationship and situation 1) saying that we decided to keep the insuarnce proceeds rather than honor the contract. Today (June 22) we have a new roof and all other repairs have been made plus we have received the depreciable value portion of our insurance claim. 2) saying that other contractors were unsuccessful in getting the claim approved. Midwest is the only roofing contractor who has talked to our insurance company on our behalf. Had the owner listened he would have gotten a true sense of our dissatisfaction and would not have to make up a reason for us to take our business elsewhere. And if they need to make up situations to make them appear better than they are, well...
Description of Work: To make repairs to home as a reuslt of hail damage. Tear off old roof (2 layers), install new roof, repair window screens, replace gutter and downspout sections, replace roof vents and fan.

Response from Midwest Roofing, Siding & Windows, Inc.
We were doing a job at a neighbor's house and had noticed some damage on the homeowner's house. We knocked on the door and found out that they had their insurance company come out and that some work was approved but the roof was not covered. We did an inspection at the homeowners request and found damage. We explained to the homeowner that we would work on their behalf with the insurance company to get the roof and other items missed on the first inspection. We signed a contract with the homeowners on 9/21/10. We met the insurance company on 11/22/10 and got the roof approved.(After taking the time to clear the entire roof of snow) At that time we both decided it would be best to wait till spring to do the work. In the spring we came over to pick up the down payment check and at that time they asked us for more information. (warranties, referrals, addresses, ect.) We gave them the addresses of some houses in their area, referrals from previous customers, and our warranties. At this time they decided that they wanted to break our contract stating that the work had not started when they wanted and were going to use someone else. We tried several times to find out what the real reason was that they wanted to cancel. We still do not know and assume that they decided to keep the money, breaking our contract. The homeowners have also made complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the MN Attorney General, both of which have been closed with no marks against us based on the information.

First he lied and said he had my next door neighbor under contract already. She later told me he seemed sleazy and she refused to do business with him. He claimed I would need his help dealing with the insurance adjuster, but would need to sign a contract to get that help. I told him I would check him out on Angies list. When I saw several horror stories there, I called the two highest rated roofers on the list and got help with the adjuster (not really necessary) without a contract and went with the best proposal. I just added to the long list of rave reviews for the winning contractor. My new roof is beautiful. After a storm, never do business with someone that contacts you first. Most good companies don't work that way, but a lot of fly-by-night opportunists do.
Description of Work: Rang my doorbell a couple weeks after a hail storm and gave me a hard sell on him redoing my roof at the insurance company's expense.

After reviewing this report, we wanted to investigate this encounter that this member had. We questioned all employees, and have come to find that our representatives did not canvas that area for leads. Therefore this experience is unfortunate, but was not associated with Midwest Roofing Siding and Windows. Thank you.

The roofing crew lead by Paul, did absolutely wonderful work. The shingles had special equirements for specific pitches. They were very detailed and knowledgeable. They knew all the special requirements and how to work with the additional materials. They were on time, hard working, very, very thorough in picking up all the nails and debris in the yard, and had exceptional workmanship. The entire roof was put on in 2 days. Paul and his crew were the nicest workmen I have had for any project. They knew what to do, and what materials I was short. I needed to pick up some extra materials and they even told me the best place to go for the best price for my materials. I would recommend Paul and his crew for being honest, respectful, hard working, considerate in short, the best work crew possible! This is a crew you can count on to be reliable and honest.
Description of Work: I had purchased my own materials and I wanted labor only. The roof had many vents, additions and dormers. The roofing shingles I picked had special requirements for different types of roof pitches. The roofers, roofed, put in additional venting, replaced rigglet and had other specific labor tasks. They did an exceptional job!!!!!!

They came out and installed the roof, they sent a crew without a supervisor. After the installation the roof started to leak in three place. They came out a 2nd time, this time with a supervisor, and they supposedly fixed these three leaks. After that visit I noticed water puddling on the roof and they told me not to worry, its a flat roof, it is supposed to be like that, they told me. I am from California and we have no rubber or flat roofs. We were getting ready to have a remodel done and our contractor noticed the pooling water and he said it should never be like that. Upon inspection of the roof we found that it was covered in mold, mold was along the walls, it was on the wood underneath the rubber roof and where it was puddling it damaged the wood and it was bowing the roof. All in all they did about $20,000 in damages due to the poor installation. This roof came with a 10 year warranty and they are saying the roof itself didn't leak, it came from scuppard. They installed all of this and they still will do nothing. We even asked for our money back, $2,300, from the initial job and they refused! People should definitely stay away from them; there are many roofers out there so don't settle for a company like this with such poor workmanship.

Work went well. It took a while to get the work started as many houses in neighborhood were affected. New roof looks great. As this was my first insurance claim, it would have been helpful to have a little more support in terms of how things would work. The crew did leave photos of the roof during the work (which was probably for the benefit of the inspector, but gave me a good feeling too). Once roof was complete, it wasn't clear to me who needed to call the city inspector. All work was completed in a day. I only found a couple of loose nails. Overall it was a pretty painless process. I would recommend these guys again. If your insurance covers the whole claim (which the invoice from the company will magically match!) then make sure you understand up front what credit you are going to get for having their sign in the front yard. I thought I was getting a $1,000 advertising credit (to cover my deductible). As other things were covered by insurance (window, gutters, garage door), the credit was never fully applied to the roof amount which made me feel like I had been short changed.
Description of Work: Removed existing shingles and roofed. Used architectural shingles and color matching valley and flashing. Replaced satellite dish and reinstalled (working without need to call satellite company). Provide shingle samples so could review in daylight and determine best match.

Joe arrived on time to give the bid. The bid was the second lowest of four received. He was very helpful in explaining what would be done. He critiqued the new roof next door and explained to me what Midwest would do better. He was supposed to match the gray color on the garage and pushed for Elk shingles. The crew was scheduled to begin the job in two weeks. The crew was on time, laid tarps and took care to not leave any mess or nails lying around. The crew worked together like a well-oiled machine and everyone knew their part of the whole job. They took their time to make sure it was put on well. The crew caulked well and made sure that an existing leak would not come back. The job was completed in two days. The shingles had a green tint and did not match the garage. Joe came out and said that nothing could be done. I called a day later to try and get a discount, but Joe did not return my call. The pictures show the color difference in the garage and house.
Description of Work: Joe gave an estimate for a complete tear off and re-roof was performed. Old flashing was removed and new color-matching flashing was replaced around two chimneys and around all edges. All vents were replaced and two were added. A gap between the plywood deck and the house was repaired. One section of rotten plywood was replaced on the roof deck. Justin checked the workmanship when the job was completed. A pre fit piece of flashing was made for an oddly shaped and leaky basement walkout roof. I ordered enough shingles for one extra 100 square feet for a future remodeling project.

Did quality work. When one of their workers installation was not done properly on our porch they went out of their way to make it right. They were out the very next day to tear off the improper work and did it right. Even checked for damage to paint, etc. to our porch. Clean up was daily and thorough. If I had one complaint it would be that I wish more than one of their workers spoke english. It was hard to relate questions and concerns to them.
Description of Work: Replaced house, garage, and porch roofs after August 2006 hail storm. I had many out giving estimates but their salesman answered all of my questions and wasn't in a hurry to sign us up or leave. Other were itching to get their sign up in our neighbors yards as well as ours by asking if they'd had estimates yet.

The siding subcontractor was Professional Exteriors, Inc. from Farmington, Minnesota. Owners: Brad Hildreth and Mark Feldhacker. They had a well-supervised team. One of the owners of the company was always with the crew. Very courteous, accommodating, and sensitive to our needs. They did an outstanding job on the siding and window wrap. My overall experience with Midwest was wonderful. I had many companies out to do estimates and Midwest was by far the best company. Jon Cooper was a nice, respectful person who sat with me for quite awhile (much longer than any of the other estimators) to answer all my questions and did it without a hard sell. Whenever I called him and left a message he always called me back promptly. The way Midwest has put together their customer service program is wonderful. I believe they really care about the customer not just the bottom line. When the work was completed there were some issues with a board that had been splintered during the re-roof. It was taken care of within a few days. The only thing I can think of that wasn't A+ was that the workers showed up at 6:15 in the morning. I was told that is not the way it should have been and they would discuss this with their staff. I now see why their placards were all over my neighborhood.
Description of Work: Our home was damaged due to the September 2005 storm. We needed a new roof. Midwest performed the work to my complete satisfaction. They replaced the roof, gutters and all the vents. I was very pleased with this company.
