B & R Hardwood & Tile

They were very nice to work with. They were extremely responsive and timely with their installation. I called them in late November and they had the work done before Christmas - all the trim was stained and installed. It looks great! We are very happy with the results. We felt their price was very reasonable for the work needed.

The job was relatively complicated and had several phases involving both flooring crews, Jose the painter and Robert who did a fantastic job installing the stairs. Kurt was professional and organized/explained everything well. A snag was that the floors were stained on an unusually humid day which resulted in uneven staining in 1 room. Kurt & colleagues worked hard to solve the problem. After several attempts it was clear that sanding and re-staining would be required. Since this is quite involved (and we had a new baby) we decided to live with the stains rather than go through the hassle of sanding. We agreed on a discount but Kurt would have much preferred to fix the problem not, I believe, because of the loss of income but from a sense of pride of doing a job perfectly. In short, I highly recommend B & R. In fact, they are doing a small kitchen remodel for us at the moment.

Kurt came to our home, offered suggestions and a plan for the work. He met us at a tile store to help us with our tile selections. Robert and Joe were punctual each day, and took care in cleaning up any construction mess. Robert was especially attentive in answering any questions, and even giving advice on other maintenance problems. The finished work is beautiful. However, there was a delay in starting the project, and further delays during the construction meant the project took about twice as long as was estimated.

Kurt gave us a bid to remove and install a hardwood floor in out library. He was prompt in responding to my request, professional in discussing the project and very easy to work with. We were shown some of his work and were impressed with the quality of the work. My husband is a wood worker and after looking at the work of several installers, he chose to go with another company. It was a very close decision and I believe that B&R would have done equally as nice a job.

I considered 3 companies for this job, and Kurt from B&R was the only one who seemed sincerely interested in the business from our first meeting. I explained that though I had a budget, quality and the relationship I had with the vendor were more important. Kurt was helpful in guiding me throughout, providing always a written estimate which only varied once I picked out some "extras." Kurt suggested a wood border on my fireplace hearth, that really makes the room. And, he steered me towards the Tile Shop where I found exactly what I wanted to make my sun room a special room to hang out in. At times Kurt did seem distracted. I know they were very busy at the time, and I think it was just a matter of juggling priorities. But, this is small in contrast to the great job they did. The two others that I met with the company, Robert and Joe, were equally professional and helpful. Everyone was always on time, and they took good care of my house while working in it.

Contract signed at the end of June, work was to begin at the beginning of August. We didn't hear anything from B&R until I contacted them at the end of July. Kurt came back to discuss the stain and trim. He brought samples of what he wanted to use as replacement, which turned out to be nothing like the wood work in our house. We reiterated that we wanted the woodwork to be the same style and he said they could do it but it would cost extra. He also clarified that the estimate didn't include replacing all the woodwork around the windows - only some of it. So we'd be stuck with the old painted wood at the bottom of the window. Also, he told us our project was way behind schedule and realistically wouldn't begin until the end of Aug. It was clear this was not a good fit and I wish B&R had realized they couldn't meet our initial request before selling us on the additional work. It also felt very unprofessional and I was surprised as this company has had great List reviews.

B & R Hardwood provided good, on time service and installation of hardwood floors, kitchen counter tops, and back splash. They demonstrated great commitment to detail ensuring that the job was done right.

B&R is an excellent company, I would definitely use them again. Everyone who has visited our house loves the floors, especially if they saw what a disaster they were to begin with. There is absolutely no sign of urine damage, and the patched region (where we removed the wall) is flawless. I stopped by to see the progress on several occasions and was always well received, while the crew explained everything that they were doing. Additionally, every time I called B&R I always got through and had all of my questions answered. Possibly the best thing about the job was that we negotiated the price on a Friday, signed a contract via e-mail on Saturday, and the crew was working on my floors on Monday.

Kurt is wonderful at communicating and keeping in touch with the customer. It was great to know, from day to day, exactly what to expect (with all the construction going on, it was easy to get disappointed if a lot of "progress" wasn't seen each day). Kurt and company pay attentions to details, do beautiful work, and listened to my feedback and needs the whole time. And, always asked our opinion on decisions in advance (which isn't the case with some of the other contractors we worked with). We are thrilled with the results to say the least!

A great experience from start to finish. When Robert came to do the estimate, he had a great suggestion regarding how to replace only the shower tile that needed replacing, and after the initial visit he returned with some tile samples for us to consider (we chose one that he suggested). When it was time to start the job, he showed up when he was supposed to, set up things so as to cause minimal disruption, and everything looked great when it was done.

B & R was the first to return our call and had a representative out to our home quickly. He provided a very detailed estimate and spent a good portion of the time explaining various possibilities. His marketing materials were excellent and left the impression that they were a well respected business in the community. The price he quoted was by the far the highest of the 3 Angie's List quotes received (+$5000 more). There is no reason to believe that the work they perform is anything but excellent. Their price was the main factor of not using their services. As a footnote, after declining their services, the owner called back and wanted us to provide positive feedback to Angie's List on their service and quote. I was put off by that, thus the C for professionalism.

They did the job quickly and efficiently over a time when we were out of the house except for our son, and communicated well with him about where and when it was OK to walk, etc.

Kurt, the owner, responded quickly to our phone call. He arrived on time and took the time to answer all our questions and offered several suggestions and options for new flooring. Kurt also arranged for us to visit a new wholesale wood flooring company in our area to see first-hand different wood floors and finishes. Kurt is very professional and knowledgeable. The only reason we didn't accept his bid is because we received a comparable bid at a lower price.

My experience with B & R and Kurt Kuhlman was great! Kurt oversaw everything on the project. He stayed in constant contact with me, was easy to work with, and he has a very pleasant personality. Best of all he is committed to doing a first class job for his clients. I have 1400 square feet of wood floor and now everything looks brand new (the floors are 22 years old). He runs his company with integrity, and professionalism. He knows what needs to be done for an "A" job and he gets it done. No matter what. I would hire him again.

The project started on time, but took a lot longer than planned to get to the finished result - was also more expensive than initially anticipated. Issues were uncovered in the demo that led to some scope changes and plumbing repairs. There were communication issues between the plumber and B&R - ultimately, the plumber had to modify some of B&R's work to get things re-installed correctly. In the end, I'm happy with the way the floor turned out and I'm not sure that any bathroom remodel happens without a little pain.

Project went well, was completed on time and the floors generally look good. Patched maple is not an exact match to the original approx 90-year old maple floors, but have been told that the new wood will darken over time. One option discussed at bid was using "reclaimed" maple, so that it would blend better with the original floors. That's not ultimately what their sub-contractors did, but as previously indicated, it looks pretty good - if you want "reclaimed", I would recommend being specific with the subs. However, most people wouldn't notice the difference in color.

It went well. Our house is over 100 years old, so there were a number of surprises which extended the time taken and the cost of the project, but B&R kept us informed at all times.

The end result is wonderful. It took a bit longer than originally projected, but the installer was very careful and meticulous. He even worked into the evenings and on the weekend to complete the job in a timely manner. We had a small mix up on the grout color during the process, but Kurt and the installer were very cooperative in getting this fixed right away. The price quote was extremely competitive.

Delivered everything as promised on time and on budget. I really liked that they called me every evening to tell me what was accomplished.

It went great. The new flooring matched the existing flooring perfectly. B&R worked with us on timing and cost to ensure we got the best outcome with minimal inconvenience. The owner's always call back or reply to emails promptly.

Kurt was our primary contact. He met us and our designer at our home for an initial consultation. Although he had a lot of helpful suggestions of his own, he worked comfortably with our designer. There were a lot of little details to work out. Particularly given the age of our home and the preexisting condition of the kitchen. But Kurt was with us every step of the way. He was always easy to reach by phone and/or email. He kept us in the loop on everything. Despite a short time table and some challenging conditions in our kitchen, B&R finished the job on time and at budget. Simply excellent work, and among most responsive contractors we've dealt with on our house renovation. B&R provided us with good advice and creative solutions to challenges along the way. I would recommend B&R without hesitation, and we thank them for everything they did for us.

There were a couple of delays getting started but they communicated the delays ahead of time and met their final start date commitment. They used an out of town subcontractor but his work was acceptable. Their own prime staff was available for consultation. They provided follow up service for a defect not of their causing; that was truly commendable. We are entirely happy with the final result we got from their work.

They were prompt in returning our call and setting up an appointment. The individual who came out to do the bid was very thorough. He had many suggestions on the flooring and several helpful suggestions to improve the overall appearance of our home (changing baseboards with our new floor, changing the entryway flooring for better flow, etc.) Their price was a bit higher, but they could have done all of the necessary work which would have been nice. Their portfolio of past work was very impressive as well. They did seem to forget that we had a budget and that expanding the work would have put us past the budget.
