B & R Hardwood & Tile

I had a guy lined up to refinish some existing kitchen floors (110 sq. ft) which had been covered for decades. He had to back out of the job due to a family illness. I had a tight schedule and needed someone in the next few days. I emailed 10 people on Angie's List and Kurt from B & R Hardwood & Tile was the first to get back to me. He called on a Sunday night (which I appreciated). He was very clear and asked many specific questions about what needed to happen and made sure to let me know about all aspects involved (including some specific risks relating to how the floor would tie into our living room floor). He told me he would have an estimate the next day, and he came back with $975. It was going to require a fair amount of manual work in replacing damaged boards so I was not put off by the price. He said that they are neither the cheapest, nor the most expensive, but they have a very high standard of quality and wouldn't be able to bid the job lower because they wouldn't be able to do the best job for a lower price. The only downside I could mention is that Kurt rambles a bit. I felt like our phone conversations could have been a lot shorter. I found out the same day that Kurt provided the bid that the guy I originally had lined up, worked something out on his side of things and was able to do the job after all. Kurt was very gracious when I told him that we were going with someone him instead. I feel confident that B & R would have done a high quality job.

We selected B&R to replace a large area of our home's carpeted floors with new hardwood floors. It was a very sizable job with tight time lines. Of the bids we received, B&R was not the cheapest, but had the most transparency around their process and could pull together the project on our timeline. Overall, we thought B&R did a quality job. The floors and the wrapping of the shoe look really good and there were several tough areas to navigate that were solved creatively. The only reason we're not grading them an "A" for quality is that there was one area that we felt could look better and it wasn't until we pointed it out that it got improved. To Kurt's credit, he asked for our input constantly and when we pointed out something we weren't initially happy with, he and his crew came back and improved it. But we wish it would have been apparent to the crew on site. This is probably the difference between going with a single operator vs. a company like B&R with split crews. The key thing to know about Kurt is that he is very hands-on with the customer in terms of communicating what is going on with the project, sometimes multiple times a day, and he sees things through. This can be overkill at times, but at least you're never in the dark. We would use B&R again.

We originally called B&R to get a bid on new ceramic tile in two rooms prior to the arrival of our new dog. Owner Kurt talked us out of doing one of the rooms (which would've involved removing existing hardwood), feeling it would would hurt the aesthetics and value of our home. Kurt made a lot of valuable suggestions on selecting a tile and base trim that complemented the rest of our home's interior. Since we were also going to paint our walls and refinish our cabinets, Kurt also suggested a practical work order for the renovation, and we used his subcontractors for a portion of the job. We were very pleased with the final results. Kurt was very communicative throughout the process, and the room looks beautiful. Though his bid was the most expensive of those we received, it was worth it for his aesthetic recommendations and overall professionalism. We would definitely use B&R again.

Kurt treated us like a big job even though it was rather minor, he and team were very detailed with both jobs and everyone was very professional and got the job done quickly. We are very satisfied with their work and would definitely use them again in the future.

I was VERY impressed with the response I received from Kurt the owner. I have hired many people to come to our home to do work and it is very hard to find someone that is consistant and actually shows up to finish the job. Kurt is one of those people. He was very punctual and always showed up when he said he was going to. I hired him because he was the most professional, had the most knowledge of the products that we were looking for, was willing to work with our plumber/electrician/etc, was thoughtful of the process because I was pregnant, and really went above and beyond. At one point there was a bit of tile on one wall that we didn't think looked right and so we talked to him about it and he took care of it promptly.

Overall we are happy with our finished hardwood floors. Unfortunately, the lack of detail for other areas leave a bad overall impression of the company and we would not recommend them. The biggest disappointment was that some of our baseboards were removed for the work, and never replaced when they were done. Kurt quoted us for quarter round molding, so we assumed that the baseboard was going to be replaced. When we asked about the baseboards, Kurt was quite defensive and we never feel he took proper care of the situation. There is a lack of communication between Kurt and his subcontractors. The large hole left in our dining room ceiling, the baseboards being thrown out by the person doing the demo work, the nicks in our basement ceiling, and the mess left in our basement from the work done were were a surprise to Kurt when we relayed this information. I was expecting a lot of dust from the project, but not a dirty bathroom left behind or a very dusty kitchen from lack of putting up a plastic barrier. On a positive note, Kurt is very prompt with his emails or phone calls. We were also very happy with the work the electrician completed.

Kurt and his crew are wonderful to work with. They showed up on time, completed the work as agreed upon, and offered their professional opinion on the best installation options for our tile job. We have an outer corner that is difficult to tile with glass, Kurt and his team came up with a solution that looks fabulous - no other tiler we interviewed offered us this unique installation solution. We would definitely hire them again for future tile work.

Their job was really mixed with other contractors. I can endorse their hardwood work. There were major issues with the tile. The colors didn't match, so we had to get new tile put in about three times. However, the wood floors were fantastic. Our floors were covered with paint and adhesive tile. There were animal urine stains underneath that. The work came out beautifully. There were a couple of boards that they had to replace, and they did a wonderful job. We were really pleased. They were professional, and they exceeded our expectations. They also did work in my in-laws' house, and that was good. We were away most of the time they did the hardwood work. They were also flexible in terms of demolition.

Originally I was told that I could have the floor refinished and it looked horrible after that work. So we agreed that we had to replace all of the wood floor which was not part of the plan. The floor looks great and the owner provided an excellent subcontractor to do the work. They did a great job and I would hire them again.

I have used them for a different project a couple years ago and both times now they were very responsive, timely and they did very good quality work.

They did a really fantastic job. They were very polite and pleasant to have around the house. They cleaned up well. This was the best experience I have had with any contractor.

B&R did this work about a year and a half ago. I reviewed B&R at the time and wanted to update my review to say we still get compliments on this floor ALL THE TIME, and it looks even better now than it did when it was new. It has transformed the look and feeling of the room entirely, and people who've been to the house a number of times still comment on how nice it looks. Kurt and Robert came up with a way of matching the look of the new floor to the old, so there is a smooth flow into the other room, and it worked great. It has been a great value for our money.

I hired B&K because they had done similar work for me 2 years ago. While they aren't the least expensive, they provide quality work, are professional, and meet their commitments. The subcontractors who sanded and varnished the hard wood floors did an excellent job. I was happy that Robert did the tile work. I trust Robert completely. It's obvious that he knows tile installation just by talking to him. He answered all my questions and I felt very confident that he would do a wonderful job even if it required more time than originally anticipated. He really goes above and beyond to make customers happy. I'm really gald that I decided to hire B&K again. I love the hardwood floors as well as the ceramic tile.

Job went flawlessly. B&R was able to come out on short notice after I was stood up by another floor company. Kurt was also available to answer my questions. The crew was very professional and cleaned up after themselves. I was thrilled to find that B&R does work other than floors. I will keep them in mind for my future remodeling projects.

Everything went great. It took a little longer than I wanted, but there was a lot of work to be done. The 1930's hardwood floors look like they are brand new, I can't get over how good it looks. All of the painting and wall remodeling gave me essentially a new house on the inside. Kurt is great, and very very good with communicating how everything is going. Any problems that developed were taken care of promptly and courteously.

I thought they were helpful in selecting our back splash. I thought the installer was good, very conscientious and also helpful.

We needed to replace 30 yr old carpet, and with 3 teenagers and 2 dogs we decided hardwood was a better, more permanent choice. Kurt came out, listened to what I was hoping for the project, gave a lot of options/ideas about possibilities, and what would work best for our situation (2 active black labs), then e-mailed me an estimate. He suggested updating the tile entryway as well. When we were pretty sure B&R Hardwood would get the bid, he came back again when my husband was home, so he could get a better idea about the project, and we ended up adding the 5 hallway doors to the project. To save a little money, we did all of the tear out (carpet, trim, doors, etc) except for the ceramic, which they did. Kurt was great about giving advice and answering questions we had about which colors, materials, style of trim, etc. Both Kurt and Robert have very open, professional and friendly styles of communication. I think the company did a great job from start to finish. Very responsive, good communication w/ their customers. They stuck within the planned time line. As an update: There was a problem w/ the jam to the Master BR door (8 mos after) and Robert Crumrine, the other partner, called w/in a day or 2 of my email and set up a time to come take a look (2 days later). It was quickly fixed, and I appreciated their prompt response. I would definitely have them come to do more work in the future.

I had three companies bid the work. Kurt's bid, while the highest of the three bids, was the most complete. He was also the most comfortable with his ability to complete a series of tie-ins where the new flooring would meet the existing flooring that would be refinished. The project was completed within the ageed upon timetable and the end result is very,very nice. The completed flooring is now continuous throughout the main level of our home, The refinished hardwood looks to be new and matches perfectly the new flooring installed in our family, dining, and living rooms. It was a pleasurable experience. The sevice was prompt, professional, and Kurt was attentive to our questions and concerns.

The entire crew I dealt with was professional, on time and completed the job like it was for their own house. Each person that came out asked for feedback to make sure the job was being completed to my level of satisfaction. Phone calls were returned the same day and the crew was on time. I was satisfied with the service. professional attitude and promptness of all involved in my project.

From the very start Kurt was informative and professional. An estimate appointment was scheduled within a couple of days of my call. Steve (the right hand man) came out to look at the job. He was prompt, personable and knowledgable. A clear and thorough estimate was emailed to us. I really liked this company and wouldn't hesitate to refer friends here for an estimate. Although another company was hired (extremely tight call), I feel we would have been just as happy in the end with B & R.

Went great! Started on Friday(tear out), installed Saturday and finished/clean on Monday. Quote included tile allowance. Very clean install. Fast and good quality. Would definitely use them again.

They were very professional and willing to give an upfront cost. The services were incredible and I had to call them with questions for which they responded well.

They did a great job. They were very punctual, the owner spent time with me to go over my options and had a good follow up. We received three quotes and they were all with in $100 of each other, the price was good.

The floors were beautiful when completed. The work was done on time, costs relected those in the estimate and Kurt's responsiveness was great. He took my numerous calls right away, answered all my questions and allayed any concerns. I had a couple of issues: a) I would have appreciated the guidance from him on selecting the stain color that I thought he was going to provide (he was not there when I needed to select the stain color); b) the quarter round by my dining room buffet is lighter than other quarter round in the room which was supposed to be matched. Nevertheless, Kurt's crew did excellent work and I am very pleased with how the floors turned out.

The floor looks great. The work was performed promptly according to schedule, and everyone from B&R was friendly and easy to work with. They were helpful with evaluating options that came up as we went along. There were some clean-up issues but nothing major. I've hired them before and I'd hire them again.
