The process was smooth and they did a great job. I was very happy with the result.

It is too bad because I realized that I also needed an estimate to insulate my home. The providers that did respond were happy to give me an additional estimate. It would have been nice to get a response even if they were not able to help immediately.

They are really good. I would recommend them to anyone who needs work done in their house.

When the shingles were removed it was clear that the decking needed to be replaced. That increased the the estimated price by close to 4,00 dollars. Dave was out of town but there was coverage for him so the project was able to proceed with no immediate delay. Rain did cause a delay in completing the project. Communication was not as good as I would have liked. The roof and gutters were just replaced this past week. Hopefully this will be the last roof I will need to install so I will not be needing this service again.

It went great! David and his team were very professional and took care of the project! Highly recommend this company. They helped me better understand what caused the problem and even fixed some small issues related to the water leakage free of charge. I could tell they cared about my concerns as a customer.

Anyway, I procrastinated on calling him back and pretty soon I got a note from him, reminding me about the estimate, telling me how much my business meant, etc etc. So I called him, said I wanted to go ahead. I think he said they were about three weeks out, he'd be in touch, we could sign the contract later when it got closer.I waited about twice that, got irritated, and called another roofer to get another estimate. THAT roofer (Lakewoods) told me that my roof was fine and didn't need to be replaced at all unless I was having problems with it. I wasn't. Dave Bahr is no longer my go-to roofer.

The start time started at 5 weeks out. After 4 weeks I called to see when a good time would be to choose roofing material and go through logistics. He was two weeks behind schedule and would call at that time to set the meeting. After another month I called to find out what the status was on starting the planning process and schedule the reroofing. Sounding annoyed that I called, he said there were still 3 projects ahead of me and they were at least three weeks out before even having the planning meeting. At that point we decided to go with a different company. Three days later, after we had begun the process with another company, he called to schedule the meeting. Upon reminding him we went with another company he became confused and frustrated. I said that he told us at least another three weeks, on top of the already 11 weeks we've waited on his initial 5 week projection. At this point he simply hung up on me.

'Excellent! From 1st phone call (same day as email sent) to final clean-up, excellent! Dave and his deck crew (Miles and company) did a great job that 9 out of 12 builders ran from given the wood of choice for the project. Even built an accessory table out of scrap wood to place at porch at front of the house at no charge! No skimping on details or quality (can't exactly find 20' 6" Pre-Grooved Tigerwood deck boards at your local lumber yard) to ensure our requests were met with EXCELLENT pricing and complete follow-through. All we have to say is a HUGE thanks in helping us add a beautiful deck to our house.

Everything went very well. Small issues handled promptly and completely. Out of the 8 total days of work, Dave was here 6 days. He was very responsive and meticulous in the finished product. In some cases went above and beyond to make it perfect. Held to original estimate to the penny. I would recommend him in a heartbeat. Looks great!

I didn't pay anything extra. I just thought that the thoroughness of the job was not quite what I expected. They were very prompt and very professional. I just expected a little bit more in terms of thoroughness and work quality.

We had a very large 25 X 70 deck on the back of our house overlooking our pool. The old deck floor was cedar but not well maintained when we moved in, railings were loose, stairs were very shaky. I had Dave Bahr come and estimate rework and a replace. Dave was very timely in coming, listened to what we were thinking, added a few comments, and came back with a couple of different scenarios in a week. We had another competitive bid from another Angie's List builder and we ended up choosing DS Bahr due to quality, cost, and time to complete. Dave uses his own crews, they were very respectful of our property, made sure we were aware of when they were coming, what they were planning to do, and when to see certain parts done. They pulled all the permits, met with the inspectors, and got right to work. A couple of unplanned items (structure was in worse shape than we could predict at the start of the project) came up as they got into the repair/replace on the structure - and Myles the foreman came to me with a couple of options on how to go forward. End result was a much better structure and a better looking product at the end. Craftsmanship, quality, and value are what we got. The first night the deck was done we had a pool party - and our deck was a highlight. Thanks for your hard work and great product!

They just started the job on Tuesday and so are just getting started but I wanted to comment on how punctual they are and very professional. They do a great job cleaning up every night and have been very easy to work with; I'm excited to see the finished product!

They recommended that I not replace the siding on my home, as he thought I had at least several years left on my current siding. He also suggested that my cedar siding was really better quality than a lot of the siding options out there. I really appreciate his candor, and appreciate that he didn't try to sell me something i didn't need. As reference, another contractor came out and quoted me $35k for vinyl siding. Not only did DS Bahr quote me a much lower estimate, but they recommended I wait for a while until I really needed it. I would certainly hire DS Bahr for my next siding job; I appreciate their honesty, and their willingness to even tell potential customers to hold off for a bit until they truly need new siding. Thanks guys - really appreciate it!

I called Dave and asked him to come inspect the roof. Due to storm damage in the metro area, his company was very busy. I told that it was no hurry to come look at the roof, as from ground level did not look too bad. He returned my call quickly and promised to come look at the roof. Within a few days, he called me while I was work, and said that he inspected the roof and found some minor damage to the roof vents - and he fixed that on the spot! Further, he did not charge for the work. You could not find a better contractor - if you need anything done with your roof. I highly endorse his company.

It went great. They were in and out quickly plus paid extra attention to an area where I had seen some water stains on the inside of my house. Overall I was happy with their work.

The work was excellent and they did a nice job providing suggestions on color and style. The only issue was there was quite a bit of debris left over after completion, which you couldn't see at the time because of snow cover. They came back promptly though to clean up after the snow melted. I would absolutely consider them for another home remodel project in the future.

Dave Bahr was prompt and professional in all dealings. His crew did an efficient job, completing the work in a little over two days. Even though they necessarily had to drop old shingles into a large garden on the side of the house, they managed to protect the plants and no damage was done. Great work all the way around.

We would not hire this contractor again. My wife reports that she found Mr. Bahr to be cocky and arrogant. Though he obtained a permit to tear off and replace the cedar shakes on the third story of our home in 2013, he failed to arrange for pre-work and final inspections with the City of St. Paul. In 2015, our Realtor advised that the 2013 permit was still "active" even though the work had long been completed and the contractor had been paid in full. Mr. Bahr maintained no records, not even photographs, of the work his company performed on our home. Instead, he made many excuses when my wife dealt with him in 2015. The city inspector wanted us to tear off a 4 x 4" section of Mr. Bahr's work to see if it had been performed to code.. My wife objected and instead offered to have the inspector return to examine Mr. Bahr's work from the inside out when we had our third floor gutted for renovation. Mr. Bahr and his company "dodged a bullet" and did not have to tear off and re-do their 2013 work only because we undertook substantial work on our third floor in 2015 with a reputable contractor. At no time did Mr. Bahr acknowledge any of the tremendous stress he put us through.

We are very happy with the work on our new deck. Dave Bahr worked with us over a 2 year period as we weren't ready to have the deck repaired after our initial quote. He called us back 6 months later like we asked and was very patient with us. When we were finally ready Dave was at our house early that morning so we could pick materials. The crew was ready to start that day. A dumpster was delivered and the old decking was torn down that same day. The crew was early every day and were extremely nice to my children as they watched and waved during the days of construction. The foreman (Myles) was extremely helpful in answering questions. There were a couple of changes from the original bid and he was quick to quote us a price, which he came in under each time. At the end of the project the crew cleaned up their mess as well as could be expected with the snow on the ground. I would highly recommend this company.

David was right on time and he performed a complete analysis of my current deck to assess its condition and age. David found that the current deck I had was still in good condition and did not need to be replaced. David recommended that I just clean the deck and apply new stain to help maintain it. These were services that David did not offer so it was nice to get an honest opinion. I did still ask for possible designs and estimates if I were to want to replace to the deck which David was more than happy to discuss some of the options I had been considering and discussed pro's and con's to those designs. I did not get a formal estimate since there was not going to be any work performed at this time but the high level estimates provided were very reasonable. If I choose to do anything with this deck in the future I would certainly reach out to DS Bahr Construction at that time.

I got estimates from 3 contractors, DS Bahr Construction was the middle one with regard to price and was the only contractor that followed up with me to see if I had any questions, etc.. David was extremely professional, as was his crew. The work was completed in a very timely manner and the craftsmanship was excellent. Everyone who looks at my house comments on how good it looks. I highly recommend DS Bahr Construction.

Dave explained everything about roofing my 2 ½ story home and garage. The workmanship was excellent and quality materials were used. They also roofed a small flat porch roof with rubber roofing material. The roofing crew was amazing. I have never seen people who worked as hard as this roofing crew did. I mean they just worked! and hardly took time out for lunch. A couple of days they started at 7a.m. and quit at 8p.m. Even came out on a Saturday to finish up. During the tear off (2 - previous roofs), they discovered it would be best to re-deck the roof. This added to the total cost but as Dave explained this would provide for a better installation and longer lasting roof. I?m very pleased with their work and would definitely hire D.S. Bahr Construction again. One thing I thought could have been done better was the flashing around the chimney, cosmetically speaking. Highly recommended.

We had some issues from a remodel gone wrong. The result was a roof with an inadequate overhang with the shingles which led to damage to Jame Hardie facia. The solution was to install a new roof and facia. We elected to use D.S. Bahr for the work and have nothing but good things to say. First came the roof in the winter of 2013/2014. Dave Bahr's estimate was very competitive. In the end we selected him because of his honest approach, professionalism and communication skills that exceed that of any contractor we've used. Dave is in a league unto himself in this last department: the man shows up when he says he'll be there, he's prepared and he has answers to all your questions. He then follows up after submitting an estimate, while work is happening and after the job is complete. He listens. He cares. He tries harder than any contractor we've worked with. Period. The second project was the facia in the winter of 2014/2015. Dave installed pre-painted James Hardie facia. It looks great, the work was performed quickly and the crew was respectful of our time/property. We've already recommended D.S. Bahr to friends and family in need of the services/work he performs and will continue to do so. Dave Bahr is a credit to the construction community and is a sure bet. He's reliable, professional and fairly priced. We would use him again without question. A+++ Please note the price listed was for the secondary portion of the work D.S. Bahr performed. The roof pricing was higher as expected.

The owner Dave met with my husband and me to give us an estimate on repairing our existing screened in porch and replacing our exterior deck. He provided us with a detailed estimate and a rough drawing of the work that would be done. Compared to the other 2 estimates we received, Dave's estimate was in the middle, but included a more thorough plan on how to fix our existing porch--he gave us the impression that they would do the job right and not cut corners. He also bid out the option for composite decking vs cedar per our request. By the time we got around to making a decision to go forward with the job, the company was booked pretty far out (we booked at the beginning of July and were told they were about 12 weeks out). We were not in a hurry and decided to get on their schedule. Throughout the long wait, Dave touched base with us twice to let us know where they were at as far as their timeline and let us know that they had not forgotten about us. About mid-October it was clear that they would not be able to complete our project before the winter. Dave was very upfront with us regarding his timeline and the jobs booked before us, so the delay was not a surprise and was something we were willing to accomodate (we took it as a good sign that they were so in demand!) We were contacted late October with the plan to pour footings for our deck before the ground froze, and then they would come back during the winter to do the actual teardown and build. I was slightly nervous about this plan as I was concerned that they would start the job and then not come back to complete it. I had no reason to worry, as Dave and his crew were true to their word and did everything as planned. Footings were poured at the end of November, and teardown/build happened at the end of January. The job was completed in 1 week. The construction crew arrived promptly and worked quickly. 2 crew members even came and worked half day on Saturday to get the decking completed. There were some issues that were discovered after demolition (rotted posts needed replacing and the joists on the existing porch needed reinforcing) that increased the cost of the original bid, however they only charged us for the cost of materials/labor and did not upcharge us for the additional work. The jobsite was cleaned up nicely when they were finished. The project manager Myles was excellent at communicating the plan and their progress as the job moved along. He reached out to the inspector to make sure the job was inspected promptly as I had requested, and came back to fix a very minor detail within the week. In the end, the porch and deck are safe, beautiful, and the workmanship solid. We are very happy with the work done by this company and will likely contact them again for future work on our home.

The whole process went very smoothly. Dave came out a few days after I called to assess the project and present options and pricing. He answered all our questions and gave details about how the job would be done. Once we made a decision, he put us on the calendar and the work was performed within the time frame he gave us. He came back a day after the work was completed to tie up a few loose ends, even replacing a few downspouts that had gotten a bit trampled on during the work. The guy who replaced our gutter was absolutely fabulous--he connected the new downspout to our rain barrel better than before and explained how to connect and disconnect the rain barrel as needed. The workers left our yard very clean (amazing, considering they were working in the snow). We will definitely use DS Bahr again--probably to replace our deck this spring. The thank-you letters after our quote and after work was complete were a nice touch.
