We were very happy with the quality of work, but it took a long, long time for the work to complete. The work started in June and was never completed until October. He would not answer or return phone calls. Here is a copy of the letter I sent, which finally prompted action. This tells the story pretty well - it was a very frustrating experience: ================================================================== Jason, Today, for the third time in three weeks, you promised to come to my home to finish the work that you started in early June. And, for the third time, you did not show up as you promised, nor did you call to tell me that you were not coming. I feel like I have been extremely patient this summer as I have worked with you to see the completion of the project you began. As you might remember, the work was originally scheduled to begin June 9th, and to last for approximately a week. We purposely chose this schedule so that the work would be done before my family vacation at the end of June. In preparation for you coming to do the work, we tore out the existing landscaping on the east side of our home and moved the landscaping rocks out, so that we could replace them once the work was completed. The weekend before the work was to begin, we had some heavy rain which caused you to start a week late. Once you started, the work took two weeks instead of one. Most days, your crew did not show up until late morning or early afternoon. Your crews were still working on the project when I left for vacation. Upon coming home, I returned to find that while they were no longer working, the work was not complete. For the next three weeks I called several times and left several unanswered messages. You missed two appointments with me before you finally came over to look at the job. We discussed with you the list of work that needed to be completed and you agreed to have it complete within a week. Nine days later, two workers showed up and did some of the work you promised. However, one of the major items (the exposed foundation of one of my walls that was not built deep enough), as well as a minor item (quik-crete swept into the cracks of between the stones) is still not complete. I want to express to you my disappointment with how this project has been handled. In the early stages of the work, we were very satisfied, despite the late start. The walls look nice, and so does the path; however, you seem to have lost interest in my project before it was complete, and finishing this work is clearly not a high priority for you now. You have never returned a phone message, you have missed several appointments (some of which I rearranged my work schedule for), and you have still not completed this work that was begun in early June. Three months later, I still have piles of rocks in my yard that I cannot move back into the landscaping. As I said in the beginning of this note, I feel like I have been more than patient and fair. Please consider this letter your notification of my intent to have the work completed by a third party contractor if you have not finished it by September 19th. After that time, I will consider my dealings with you complete. Once the third party has completed the work, I will subtract their bill from the balance that I still owe you, and will send you a check for the difference. Following is the list of work that still needs to be completed. We have discussed it on the phone several times, but I include it here for completeness: Six-to-eight inches of the foundation of the wall is exposed on the third tier (below where the faucet comes into the house). This was exposed after I removed the extra dirt that your crew threw into the tier, which caused the dirt level to be higher than the retaining wall. Dirt was piled especially high in the corner of the wall where the foundation is now exposed. This part of the wall needs to be torn down, and the foundation needs to be dug deeper so that at least 1-2 more tiers of brick can be laid below where the lowest tier currently is. Quik-crete needs to be swept into the cracks between bricks in our path. It is especially needed at the bottom of the path, and the top of the path where the path meets the new part of the wall.
