Two thumbs up for UWS. I was impressed with the high quality workmanship and conscientiousness of the crew. The job was completed in a timely manner...we were told what the work schedule would be and they stuck to it. When the job was complete everything was picked up and the yard around the house was left neat and tidy. It was almost like nothing had happened except our house looked fantastic!
Description of Work: repaired and patched all the cracks and imperfections in the existing stucco and applied an elastomeric, "Stolastic" stucco coating over all the existing stucco.

John and Tony repaired some sheetrock that was under old panelling in our family room. They taped and mudded the sheetrock, then made a beautiful, smooth, paintable surface. They really did well in making sure there were no visible seams between the regular wall and the new mud. They also repaired some bad spots in our entryway where the previous owner had taken down wallpaper and scarred the walls. They were right on time, they were very clean and tidy for a very messy job, they kept us aware of the progress of the job, and they really cleaned up after themselves. They even gave me some tips on how to paint the walls so the patch and repair jobs wouldn't be noticeable. I will recommend them to friends and family as well as use them in the future if we need to. They did an awesome job!

United did a great job. We have two small children and a dog, and asked that the crew create complete separation of the work zone from the living spaces we needed to use during the work. They obliged, sealing off the work area as well as protecting the floors that they traversed to come in and out of the house. They kept a very clean worksite. The end result in the plaster finish is grey good, matching the existing texture very well.

United Wall Systems, Inc. did an outstanding job by all accounts. John Laudon was our contact - he's one of the owners. We actually met with John a couple of times: he viewed our project and provided a quote in the fall of 2014 (we ended up delaying the repair), and again in April of 2015. We contacted United Wall Systems, Inc. and a couple of other stucco companies from references provided here on Angie's List. We decided to go with United Wall Systems because the extent of the repairs John recommended and the corresponding quote was significantly less than that proposed by some of the other contractors who bid the job - essentially, the other contractors were recommending repairs which were far more elaborate than the structure of the existing parge coating on the house, at several times the quote provided by United Wall Systems. We had requested that John try to complete the job before Memorial Day, since we plant a garden along one of the walls which needed repair. John did manage to squeeze us in two weeks before Memorial Day. The repair looks great, United Wall really did a nice job in matching the texture of the repair to the texture of the remaining original parge coating. John Laudon, his partner Jeff Behrendt and their third associate (who's name escapes me) were all friendly, polite, clean, punctual and professional. The price was right, the work was great, I feel as if I got very good value for my money. Five Stars, AA++. P.S.: I own five properties - three houses and two commercial buildings, and I have worked with a lot of building and maintenance contractors. United Wall Systems, Inc. is top of the line.
Description of Work: I hired United Wall Systems, Inc. to repair the parge coating on the concrete block foundation of my house (parge coating is basically stucco without much or any texture). The existing parge coating was detaching from (flaking off) the foundation in several sections, but remained intact over most of the foundation. We are intending to paint our house this year and wanted to repair the foundation before having the house painted.

I don't remember the exact dates but we have had them work on our home on three separate occasions. They have done excellent work every time and at what seemed to us to be very reasonable prices. They are what I would describe as old school craftsmen. Their exterior stucco repairs are virtually invisible, they were able to match color and blend their work in so that you would never know that a repair had ever been done. They did the same quality of work on multiple plaster repairs inside our home. We would highly recommend them to anyone needing stucco or plaster work done.

John responded promptly when I asked for an estimate. He came to my house and arrived on time to take a look at the project. He asked a lot of questions about what I wanted and took pictures. He showed me a book of his company's work on other projects to talk about the options. I received a detailed, written bid for the project later in the day. He remained responsive as we coordinated other trades' work and promptly scheduled his company's visit once we were ready. He finished the project quickly, on-time, and at the cost he quoted. We were very impressed with the quality of his work, his professionalism, and his clear enthusiasm for doing a great job.

John from United Wall Systems was prompt in replying to our request for a quote, he did an onsite visit prior to providing an estimate. He was right on time when the job was set to begin and provided both an email and verbal update for every step of the process. He took extreme considerations to a new floor that we had just installed, no mess at the end of each day with thorough cleanup. Work was done on time and the quality of work far exceeded our expectations, and would highly recommend John from United Wall Systems.

I called John on a Friday for information and he was able to stop by immediately to look at the work to be done and provide a quote. He emailed the quote by the next morning and when I emailed him back to accept, he said he could start the following Monday at 8am. He said it would be a two day job and that he would be bringing one helper with him. I said that worked out and he and one other guy arrived on time first thing Monday morning. They immediately put down protective plastic from the front door through the hallway to the rooms needing the work. The also used protective plastic on any nearby furniture to protect from dust. They worked solid until noon when they took a lunch break, this break also allowed time for the patches to dry before they put on the next coat. They came back when they said they would and worked for another hour or so until they were done for the day. John said that the next day would only take a few hours to finish up. They arrived on time again on Tuesday and from start to finish, with all the clean up, it only took about 3 hours. The worked looked great and he even patched a couple nail holes as well, no extra charge. It was great to have a responsive, timely and efficient service provider that knew what he was doing and got the job done exactly the way he said it would be done.
Description of Work: We had some cracks from old water damage in two different walls (walls are plaster). We also had some cracking in the bathroom ceiling. They came in and pulled out all the loose material and dug out any other compromised wall material, patched it and sanded it down to get it ready to paint.

I called John on a Monday morning and he was at our house the same afternoon to look at the project. As promised, he emailed a quote to me by 7 a.m. the next morning. We hired him that morning without getting other quotes since his price was within our budget and we were desperate to finish the wall. John and his crew showed up the next day as promised and got to work. It was supposed to take 2 days but it ended up taking 3 days because the material was not dry enough to sand on the 2nd day. This was in no way John or his crew's fault. They were working on an exterior concrete block wall with a drafty window . With the cold weather, it wasn't possible for the material to dry in a few hours so they had to come back the following day for the final sanding. The crew member who returned the following day came on his day off to get the project finished. We feel he really went above and beyond and we were extremely grateful. The wall they skim coated is original from the 1960's. We tore down the other walls but we couldn't get this one out as the plaster was applied directly to the concrete block foundation. After we hung the drywall, there were large gaps in the corners and around the ceiling where the plaster met the drywall. John and his crew did an amazing job of filling the gaps and skim coating the wall to match the texture of the drywall. I can't believe the transformation. We recently painted and there is not a single flaw that we can find. It is truly far better than I could have ever imagined. We were worried about the mess but John made sure to use plastic tarps to cover any surface that could get dusty or messy. They did leave the tarps in place per my request so that we could finish taping and mudding the rest of the walls. (In hindsight, we should have spent the extra money to have them do that for us, too.) At every point, John and his crew were professional and obviously very skilled and knowledgeable about what they do. My impression is that they take pride in their work and that John takes pride in providing excellent customer service. John was not there on the final day but he did call later on to make sure we were satisfied and to let him know if there were any problems. We would definitely hire John again and would recommend him to others.

The project went on as scheduled. They were very professional with their work and it was evident this wasn't their first job. We have already recommended them to a local interior designer. I would use them again and recommend to friends.
Description of Work: Repaired water damaged area on the ceiling and knocked down the remaining popcorn ceiling on main level our home. Put up the right amount of plastic sheeting to contain and collect the dust and debris keeping it to a minimum. While we were at it we did the office and family room. John did a great job of communicating schedules, progress and just plain staying in touch with us during the project. John was very aware of our concern for dust and mess.

They called to come look at the job and came the next day to see it. They returned the estimate the next Monday by email. We set a tentative date for the work. I was kept informed as to any changes in their schedule so I knew when our job would be done. They arrived on time the morning the work was scheduled, covered everything, and got the major part of the job done that day. They returned the next day to sand off the areas that had been repaired. The company gave us a follow-up call the day after the work was completed to make sure everything was satisfactory. I would use them again.

John was very responsive at my first contact with him. He gave a free estimate and explained things very well. He arrived to do the work at the agreed date, came right on time, and him and his crew were very professional and efficient. They also did a good job in cleaning up as this was a messy job. The hole was repaired quickly and effectively, and you can't even tell it was there! The ceilings with the new plaster hand trowel look absolutely beautiful! We are very happy with his work and his professionalism. We would definitely hire him again.

They called me to say that they had an opening in their schedule and could come earlier than they expected. They came at the time they said they would. They covered all the floors and woodwork near the work area. They completed the work in three days, which is what they had predicted. The walls and ceilings were beautifully finished. They checked frequently for bubbles (a common occurrence as the material dries). These guys are really artists, and having had some difficult experiences with contractors previously, I was delighted to work with the men at United Wall Systems?
Description of Work: I wanted a room, a small hallway and part of another wall finished to be ready to paint. They inspected the walls and told me exactly how they would worrk. John showed me pictures of their past work and told me what they would need from me ( furniture moved and 50% up front). He suggested that some nearby structural repair be done first so that they could do a more complete job.

John did a fantastic job - the ceilings throughout the first floor of the house look excellent. He was prompt scheduling an appointment for a quote, and he was able to do the work with a quick turnaround before we had moved furniture into the house. We were actually out of town when the work was done, and because we weren't around ended up having some mixed communication about the scope of work. I'm really happy to report that John was extremely responsive and we got everything worked out to everyone's satisfaction.

John and crew did a beautiful job from start to finish. They took care to cover the floor, windows, and finished ledges with plastic sheeting. Furnace air return ducts were covered while working and they applied masking tape to lower level entry door to block dust from upper level. They showed up on time each day and worked hard until completing the work planned for the day, most days not even stopping for lunch. They gave me a walk-through and progress report, as well as plan for next day before leaving. They were respectful of the fact that I was working from home in the upper level by keeping the noise level down. They ran into differing conditions on the popcorn ceiling that required different approaches on covering it up. The entire popcorn ceiling had been painted which made removal difficult but they removed a large unstable area with water to ensure the new finish wouldn't fall off. The sanding phase was remarkable in that little dust actually got into our upper level which is a testament to the care that they took to seal things off. When all work was done, the crew did a fantastic job of cleaning and dusting surfaces giving me walls that were ready for finish painting. John very graciously went beyond the terms of our contract by skim-coating a half-wall that I had damaged when removing wallpaper and was planning to repair on my own. The hand troweled ceiling finish is beautiful and makes the rooms seem larger. This is definitely a cut above the typical knock-down finish offered by other drywall tapers. United Wall Systems is a group of seasoned professionals that take pride in their work and we are very happy we chose them to complete our project.
Description of Work: Our project involved new drywall taping, taping patches made in old drywall, remove popcorn ceiling and refinish, and applying primer paint to repaired surfaces. The work was done in the lower level of our split-entry home in Bloomington. The details of the project included: Complete restoration of existing “popcorn ceilings”. Scraping existing popcorn texture. Repair and patching as needed. Skim coating entire ceiling surface area. Application of a “soft hand trowel” texture through-out. Taping new sheetrock walls. Repair and patching walls as needed. Finishing walls to a smooth paint ready finish. Application of a hand trowel texture to upper part of fireplace. All materials, labor, tools, equipment and taxes. Complete covering of flooring and walls as needed to contain dust. Application of primer paint to all new, completed drywall walls and compound on repaired walls.
