I am not happy with the deck Uglydeck built. There are warped boards, uneven joints, bowing support beams. So many issues.

We had a beautiful new deck built with maintenance free decking by UglyDeck.com. However, the process was less then smooth. From dented siding, punctuated soffit, and the use of the previous used 40 year old rotting support beams, and after all of that we finally had a completed deck 4 months later. (They never did address my complaint that the drink rails were rough on the ends from being cut to size.... I was told they would be sanded and painted. That NEVER was completed). By the end of the first day, I was glad that I had taken “before” pictures. Without the pictures, I’m not sure we would have been able to argue our case and ask for those mishaps to be repaired. The crew was very messy and never cleaned up after themselves. I was told to leave it and they’d have someone come out to cleanup, do a overall inspection and run through things with us. That NEVER happened. I ended up cleaning up the mess (food wrappers, cigarette butts, nails, screws, plastic pieces and many other items). I also, had to figure out how to program our lighting since no one showed us how or left the manual with us. I worked with Matt, the production coordinator for our project. Matt was good at helping us communicate all the issues we were having and helping to get some answers. All in all, it was an extremely exhausting experience having to “babysit” the project that left me second guessing my decision to hire UglyDeck.com.

Company was VERY professional from the first consultation through the completion of the job. We needed to board our large dogs while the work was being done because of lack of access to the back yard, and ugly deck communicated their time line in a clear, concise, and accurate manner which made the entire build process on our end soooooo much easier! Emails were always answered quickly and the final product looks amazing. In short, we couldnt be happier. thanks ugly deck!

Looks good from a distance but when up close you can see multiple scratches on the boards. They accused us of shoveling the deck which we never did. Blamed us and never took any responsibility. Only people that shoveled were the builders.

I rate my experience with Ugly Deck as a C+. The Sales experience was great Chad even came out in the rain to take measurements and give a rough estimate. I thought the price was pretty comparable to the quotes I was getting from other contractors. The construction of the deck was great and we love the appearance. It was a vast improvement over the existing deck. Our biggest issue was with the customer service experience and attention to detail with local code. Regarding customer service, it was virtually non-existent. There was zero interaction between me and the company throughout the build. No calls asking what we thought as it was going up or if we had concerns during the process. As well as no follow up after the build to see if we were satisfied. Upon completion and awaiting final inspection, we received NO notice letting us know when the inspection would be. I HAD TO CALL THEM and find out when they were coming out. Upon the final inspection, the deck failed for two reasons. 1) They forgot to include the pergola in the submitted plans, and 2) they used the wrong nails when hanging the joists. Again I found myself making phone calls to them to figure out their plan to fix the issue and the time table. The customer service rep was unresponsive via email; despite telling them that I lock the gate to the yard and I needed to know when they were coming out. After they came out to replace the nails, they never ran the magnet over the area and left the removed nails in our landscaping rock which my wife and I picked up to prevent our dogs from stepping on them. Even after the experience with the failed inspection, they still didn’t contact us. I received the final bill 2 weeks later from our sales rep and expressed my experience. A credit of $100 was applied for the nails left in the yard.

Great! We started in the spring of 2015 to contact several builders to remove and install a new deck. We had several contractors drop out along the way for various reasons and were left with two contractors whose bids were higher than we would have liked to pay. We decided to visit UglyDeck showroom and were very impressed by the Timbertech line and Westbury railings on display. We met Scott who gave us a bid which was several thousands lower than our current bids. We decided to go with UglyDeck and could not have been happier. After we signed the first contract (but before work started), we changed our mind and wanted to increase the size of the deck. The deck was built to the specs of the second contract, but the under siding was built to the specs of the first contract. We mentioned this to Scott and it was immediately fixed. No hassle, which I really appreciated. The deck looks amazing!! We also had a new patio installed after the deck was completed which totally transformed the look of our backyard. We are very satisfied with both projects.

Conclusions: Good deck completed. Poor cleanup and a couple quality issues. First we did considerable research on metal railings and are happy with the Westbury rail design and the glass is nice for the view. We like the Timbertech composite wood. We had many quotes for this job & Ugly Deck had good reviews & were competitively priced. Invoice completed in Oct 2014. Ugly Deck started the work later than estimated by well over a week. Initially only deck boards & new railings were to be completed. But after inspecting the insufficient old deck footings, we decided to replace the entire deck. This was now December so we agreed to complete the deck on the old footings & support beams, and have the new footings and beams completed in spring. They said they planned on doing the beams last anyways. The upper deck completion went fairly well with a few communication issues that were resolved. I did need to call numerous times to find out when Ugly Deck would return to complete work. Clean up was poor during the winter & spring months. There was no protection on large areas of grass where there was considerable plastic & metal small end pieces, dust/shavings, nails, screws & shims (magnet was not used to pick up metal scrap). In the spring after the footings went in the new approx 8 ? long 6x6 beams were pounded in place underneath the deck. This left large mallet dents in the beams, and the beams were badly cracked. We complained & Ugly deck quickly sanded out most of the dents but we were not happy with the end result appearance of the posts, which is on our lower patio area w/patio pavers. The deck creaks a lot especially when walked on, I assume there are internal stresses due to the construction process used. I built our other deck with Timbertech and have no issues with creaking. Ugly Deck sent us the final bill but did not respond to my email regarding final quality for 2 weeks (I also called). By this time I had decided I would make the posts look best I could and had sanded, applied wood putty, painted the posts (my responsibility) and completed the pavers around the posts (my responsibility). They offered to replace the beams with no guarantee of cracking if I paid for the beams. I said there were a few minor issues including proper dressing of wires against the house and I asked them to come out to cleanup the remaining issues. No one has come out even after a couple calls. I?ve since noticed the caulking under the deck where it butts up against the house has separated (possibly when they lifted the deck for the new beams), and one of the wires is badly nicked. Typically Ugly Deck sales and construction workers were pleasant to work with. But communications were lacking. We were disappointed in the clean up, lack of final quality under the deck & no final inspection. Work was completed around end of April 2015.

This was a really great experience. I worked with Scott at Ugly Deck, and he was very responsive, communicative, prompt and helpful. It took awhile (2 weeks) for the city to clear our permit, but he was always available to give a status report and he got us our original estimate very quickly. They knew we were on a time-crunch with trying to list our house for sale, and so the day after the permit cleared they were out digging the new footings. The price was very reasonable and the work was completed immediately. Our deck is now structurally secure and looks much better than it did before. We put 1/2 deposit down before the permit was filed and then recieved the invoice for the balance after work was completed. I would highly recommend this company to all! It's so good to find a company that treats their clients well and functions beautifully. Thank you Scott and all at Ugly Deck!

We had UglyDeck work on 2 decks for us. Josh was on-time, thorough and easily understood our needs and concerns. We had received an estimate previously from another company that involved less work but was higher. On the first property, they removed a deck that was no longer safe and replaced it with a maintenance free deck that was twice the size. They also installed stairs to the yard. In addition, they leveled a landing that was sloping towards the house without damage to the small roof or soffit above it. They then extended the steps to the full width of the concrete slab underneath it making it much easier for 2 people climb the stairs. They finished it off with a cedar enclosure around the landing to create a storage space. I don't know how they leveled that landing but it looks amazing. They were careful not to impact the common wall or deck of the neighbor and were careful working around the new hydrangea shrubs. On the second property, they replaced decking, bench seats, stairs and railing. They made a suggestion to improve the headroom going down the stairs and took the time to fit a board under the stiles of a screen porch. ( The original builder put a board along the edge of the stiles and then put a 3" block of wood between each stile....which of course continually came loose and fell to the ground below so every few weeks I would gather them up and try to glue/nail/wedge some back in... pain. ) They used a box construction on the bench seats instead of just nailing planks to supports....in other words, this deck is repaired better than it was built !! Cory and Jason did an awesome job through heat, rain and even hail...they cleaned up well each night and showed pride in their work. Both jobs presented them with some challenges they met with flying colors. Thanks guys.....

see above. with only an estimate and a proposed contract in hand i can not speak to thier actual work. they have however been very responsive by phone and email. They go under the name of UglyDuck.com on TV and Newspaper ads however so i suggest you send new notice out using that name . I have thus far found them pleasent to work with and timely.
Description of Work: i have recieved an estimate and was going to call them today to purchase but will wait for your report. Of more importance, this company is advertising on TV and elsewhere as Ugly Deck.com which i assume is an assumed name under the Secratary of State by All Seasons Building Co at the Nicollet Ave S address in Burnsville. thier web site is www.UglyDeck.com i drove out to thier business which is small and in what appears to be rented space. the contract proposal they sent me states UglyDeck.com/All Seasons Building Co throughout the contract. They have been very resonsive by phone and email and came to my home promply at the time stated to look at the proposed project and to quote a price for thier work. so far so good. (can not speak to thier work yet however as have not done any to date.) hope you send the results of this survey out asap

Bill was really accommodating, lots of great advice, really seemed to care about how the deck turned out. He was able to accommodate last minute ideas into the deck design and was easy to work with. The deck is beautiful, rock solid, and exactly what we wanted. His two workers, Eric & Dave, were courteous and skilled.
Description of Work: Three Season Screened Deck (with unscreened area as well). Includes staircase to lower level yard, ceiling fan & cedar lining in porch, outside lighting and extra outdoor electrical outlets. Also replaced a sliding glass door with new French Doors. (This house has daylight windows, so deck was not walk-out basement height.)
