Schmidt Roofing responded quickly after the insurance adjustor had assessed the damage. They worked well with our insurance provider to get us the best benefit. They provided us options of which shingles were available. The crew did an amazing job. The job was challenging because of the height and location of the church. These challenges didn’t seem to bother the crew. The old church roof was slate tiles which required special procedure for removal. The crew was careful removing the tiles and disposing of them properly. The area was completely cleaned up after the work was completed. The new roof is beautiful and looks like it has always been there, and we are very pleased with all the work. NOTE: We chose to replace the entire roof that was originally asphalt shingles that were damaged instead of repairing them so all roofing would be the same. This was an additional cost to the congregation not covered by our insurance.

we were told we needed a new roof
Description of Work: They “replaced” the roof which according the company would solve the problem we had. They did not install step flashing (according to water damage experts) and who knows at this point what else not. We are currently seeking to fix the original problem and are working with the state attorney generals office to recover from this disaster.

The overall project was easy from beginning to completion. We approached Cory Schmidt to do our roof as our home was going on the market soon and we needed to finish this project quickly. Cory was able to get a crew out to our house later that week. Cory's crew was polite and professional. The home was an older farmhouse with a 3rd story that was steep and this crew made it look effortless. They were able to finish the project in a day and cleaned up to our satisfaction. The roof looked great and the new homeowners agreed! I couldn't be happier

After a hail storm, we called Schmidt Roofing to do an inspection on our roof. Cory agreed to meet our insurance adjuster to do the inspection. Although the roof didn't suffer any damage, the gutters did. Cory took care of everything from there out. He and the adjuster agreed on the work to be completed, we paid our deductible and within a week, we had new gutters and downspouts. Their crew was responsible and professional. I would definitely hire Schmidt Roofing for future work.

A new roof was installed by the Schmidt Roofing Company on our house in November of 2008 under the First Choice Repair Program. I received the warranty certificate dated February 2, 2009. This roof has provided a tiresome and highly costly sequence of problems since it was installed. At one point, the leakage was so bad, we had to vacate our house for two weeks while the water damage was repaired. Farmers Insurance handled the claim (around $15,000) expeditiously and professionally. We incurred the deductible cost of $1,000 plus some additional expenses. Later, the roof leaked again and we continued to be concerned about the quality of this roof. I had Schmidt Roofing install some additional vents in the soffit of the older part of the house. That was $1,499.38. The roof continued to leak. In March of 2011, the roof leaked again. We had a pail in the kitchen collecting water. It was leaking in the same place it was before the substantial insurance claim mentioned in my letter of May 13, 2010. It is leaking in spite of the installation of extra venting, extra insulation, and snow removal charges of $2,137 incurred that winter. Then, as a further precaution, I paid a reputable insulation company $1,754.00 to add additional insulation in the house ? even though some additional insulation had been added previously. Following several frustrating and unproductive discussions with Schmidt Roofing, I hired an attorney to write a letter on our behalf to both First Choice and Schmidt Roofing. That cost $817.50. In doing some research on Minnesota building codes and discussing the matter with the local building inspectors, we learned that Minnesota building codes require that roofs with a pitch less than 3/12 were to have the ice and water shield installed all the way up to the top of the roof. The single story section of the roof was definitely less that a 3/12 pitch, so the roofing job was clearly not up to code. Additionally, the whole house is approximately a 3/12 pitch. The letter from the attorney did get the attention of First Choice. An engineer from First Choice did come out and confirmed that at least part of the room was installed incorrectly and not to code. Finally, Schmidt Roofing had to redo the single story section of the house ? complete with the installation of Grace ice and water shield and a new set of shingles, and proper ridge vents. But, the larger second story portion of the roof, including much of it that led to the 2011 insurance claim, was not addressed. That is the section of the roof that is leaking today in several place. The family room was completely redone in 2011 by the contractors hired by Farmers Insurance. It was completely re-wallpapered and the ceiling was redone also. At the moment, the ceiling has leaked so badly that the ceiling texture has fallen off and dropped on the floor. Ever since we had the misfortune to have the roof installed in late 2008, the roof has never been satisfactory and has been a near constant source of trouble for us and our insurance company. Our family moved into this house in August of 1970 ? 44 years ago. From that time until the present roof was installed more than 38 years later, we experienced no major leaks. During those years, Minnesota did have bouts of considerable snow, but nothing leaked. Since that time, we have made additional investments to ward off leaks. We have added vents. We have hired a reputable company to add even more insulation. The roof installed by Schmidt Roofing in late 2008 still leaks. This roof is now, and probably always has been, both expensive and unsatisfactory. We have lived in our house since 1970, and we have not had leaking damage before the installation of the present roof ? in spite of many harsh Minnesota winters. Recently, we were told by Schmidt Roofing and First Choice Repair, ?there is nothing we can do for you.?

This was an absolutely horrible experience. We completely regret hiring Schmidt Roofing to fix our hail damage from August. They are on the list of our insurance company's approved contractors and I checked them out and found no complaints against them, so we hired them. Jeff Haas, their sales person, was prompt, efficient and knowledgeable. However, the rest of the company is not. Jeff led us to believe that the crews they use are Schmidt Roofing employees and not subcontractors. Technically, that may be true, but they are not full-time, permanent employees. The 2 guys that did our siding both had other jobs, which would explain why they never showed up most days to do our siding. The roofing crew was awful. They didn't show up when we were told they'd show up. They finally came one afternoon in late October at 3:30 pm and were going to tear off our roof. The clouds were rolling in and rain was forecast. I asked them if they were going to cover the roof with a tarp or something since it was going to rain. They said no. I told them they couldn't tear it off that afternoon then. It rained 1/2 an inch that night. They started work the next morning. They were rude, unprofessional, didn't clean up, dropped nails and shingles in our air conditioning unit, broke potted plants in my yard, and stood around and smoked and dropped cigarette butts in my yard. Their work was pretty much "slam, bam, thank you ma'am". The shingles are sticking up and the work may have to be redone. Weeks and weeks went by with no communication from the company. Then we received a call that they were going to show up on Day X and start the siding. They didn't show. This happened repeatedly. Weather can account for many of the days they couldn't work, but there were many more days that they just didn't show up. When they did show, they didn't come until around 9 am or later and were gone by 4 pm. One day they were gone before 3 pm. One day after listening to the two workmen chat for a very long time instead of work, I looked out and one was sitting on the scaffolding with a cigarette in one hand and a piece of siding in the other and chatting away. It took them 3 weeks to side one side of the house. The work was sloppy. Since they didn't have the right size vent, they just stuck something on and left a portion of the house exposed. When we complained, we were told that they didn't have the right size vent so they just used what they had. We said that was unacceptable. Their fix--eventually a guy showed up and smeared caulk over the exposed area. We again complained and they finally agreed to order a vent the right size and have now installed that. They also put holes in some of our window screens. They promised us a check to reimburse us for fixing the screens (they won't), but we have yet to see that check. Again, time went by with absolutely no communication from Schmidt Roofing. They finally showed up to do the gutters. The work was sloppy, they didn't replace downspouts, etc. We found it interesting how after months of no communication from the company we got a call immediately after the gutters were done saying that they wanted our $1000 deductible. I didn't call them back immediately, but did a few days later and asked for an appointment to review their work. I have heard nothing from them since. Typical. Rarely does someone answer the phone when they call, and it is days before they call you back. In short--Schmidt Roofing has poor communication, poor workmanship and poor work ethics. I recommended to my insurance company that they remove Schmidt Roofing from their list of approved contractors. And I recommend that no one hire them to do roofing, gutters or siding.

Horrible. Where do I start?! First they never pulled a permit. They never vented the bathroom vent; they left it on top of the insulation!! They used improper venting for the kitchen vent. They used the wrong sized boards to cover the vent dormers that were removed, causing a huge depression in the front and back of the house. When I called them back to look at it, they didn't show up, like they promised. The second time they were supposed to show up, they didn't. Finally, they did show up, late, and sent some moron up to fix the issue. Fixing to them meant: adding another layer of shingles to even out the depression! They also did the gutters and did a HORRIBLE job. Water was pouring down the windows, etc. Corey Schmidt flat out lied to me numerous times to me and can NOT be trusted! An example was when he was supposed to meet with me, and after waiting 1.5 hours, I called the office to see if he was going to show up, and they informed me he was going fishing in Canada! Thanks buddy. Long story short, I had to hire an attorney to threaten legal action against them. They replaced half the roof on the front and back, and I ended up with shingles that didn't match.

Very responsive, courteous family-run business. Mark Leuhard, who did the estimate, responded to my phone calls even in the evenings and weekends. The price was a little higher than expected because the cost of plywood had gone up that year, so I don't fault the company. The installation crew came out early and worked fast; I guess my only gripe is that they also came out on a Sunday morning, which I didn't expect (neither did my neighbors). Cleanup was thorough---normally you find nails everywhere after a roofing job, but I found surprisingly few. The vinyl installers however left a half-filled water bottle and little chips of vinyl in the shrubbery and backed their trailer up on my front lawn. I don't know if they were subs, but they were a big contrast to the roofers, who were very professional.

I NEEDED TO GET SNOW AND ICE DAMS OFF AN AREA OF MY ROOF THAT'S PRONE TO BUILD UPS. WE SCHEDULED A CREW TO COME OUT THE NEXT MORNING AT 9. THEY WERE DELAYED FOR ABOUT 1-1/2 HOURS DUE TO EQUIPMENT ISSUES BUT CALLED TWICE TO KEEP ME UPDATED DURING THE DELAY. BOTH GUYS WERE PROFESSIONAL, POLITE, KNOWLEDGEABLE, HARDWORKING AND CLEANED UP AFTER THEMSELVES. THEY DID A GREAT JOB AND I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM. IF NEW INSULATED PIPE WAS TO BE ADDED SCHMIDT WOULD CHARGE ME $50 ADDITIONAL. THE INSTALLER CAME OUT, INSTALLED THE VENTS, AND TOLD ME THAT THE PIPE IN QUESTION WASN'T INSULATED AND LATER SAID IT WAS. HE TOLD ME HE ADDED INSULATED PIPE TO THE ROOF. I SAID I WANTED TO TALK TO THE SALES PERSON PRIOR TO PAYING, THE INSTALLERS STORY WAS NOT CONSISTENT. I LEFT A MESSAGE FOR THE SALES PERSON FRIDAY MORNING AND WAS NOT CALLED BACK UNTIL TUESDAY. HE INFORMED ME THE ADDED PIPE WAS INSULATED. IN THE MEANTIME, I WENT INTO THE ATTIC, AND SAW INSULATED PIPE WAS NOT ADDED TO THE ROOF AS I WAS TOLD AND THE EXISTING PIPE WAS JUST SITTING IN THE NEW PIPE. THEY WERE LATE, CANCELLED ONE APPOINTMENT 20 MINUTES PRIOR TO, AND WHEN THE SALES MAN ARRIVED TO FIX THE PROBLEM, HE ARRIVED WITH NO TOOLS. HE WAS PLEASANT AND APOLOGIZED. A VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE.

WE NOTICED LEAKING IN OUR FOUR SEASONS ROOM ON A MONDAY MID-DAY. WHEN I CALLED SCHMIDT THEY SAID THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO START THE PROCESS (SNOW REMOVAL) ON TUESDAY LATE IN THE DAY. THEY KEPT ME POSTED AS TO THEIR PROGRESS (THERE WAS A LONG LIST OF CUSTOMERS THEY WERE TRYING TO SERVICE IN A FAIR AND TIMELY MANNER) AND EVEN PROVIDED THE CELL NUMBERS FOR THE TWO OWNERS. THE FIRST CREW (SNOW REMOVAL) ARRIVED ON TUESDAY NIGHT AND CLEARED THE ROOF OF SNOW THAT NIGHT DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT WAS SNOWING AND VERY COLD. THE SECOND CREW (STEAMER FOR ICE REMOVAL) ARRIVED WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND DECIDED IT WAS TOO LATE AND OUR ROOF WAS TO STEEP TO DO THE WORK SAFELY IN THE DARK. THEY WERE BACK FIRST THING THURSDAY MORNING AND COMPLETED THE JOB. CLINT AND COREY WERE COURTEOUS AND HONEST, WHICH WAS APPRECIATED AS MANY OF THE CONTRACTORS I CALLED MADE PROMISES INITIALLY AS TO WHEN THEY COULD COME OUT AND THEN DIDN'T FOLLOW THROUGH TIMELY.

THEY DID AN OK JOB WITH THE GUTTER WORK. THE CREW DID THE JOB BUT FAILED TO RECOGNIZE ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR THEIR COMPANY ON OUR HOUSE (I.E. SOFFIT AND FACIA REPAIR, AND WINDOW CAPPING). THERE WAS SOME ROT, THAT IF I HAD BEEN NOTIFIED OF, I WOULD HAVE HAD THEM DO THE WORK AS WELL. WHEN WE HAD AN ISSUE WITH SOME OF THE WORK THEY HAD DONE (BREAKAGE) IT TOOK ALL SUMMER AND REPEATED CALLS TO GET THEM TO FIX IT. I WAS ALSO NOT HAPPY WITH THE FACT THAT WHEN THEY WERE SHORT ON A COLOR-MATCHED GUTTER, THEY TOOK A WHITE PIECE AND PAINTED IT. THE PAINT IS COMING OFF ALREADY. I SEE THEM AROUND ON OTHER JOBS AND THEY HAVE GOTTEN GOOD REVIEWS IN THE PAST. I FELT THEY JUST DIDN'T CARE ON OUR PROJECT.

THE SALES PITCH WAS GREAT, AND THE ROOF ITSELF IS FINE. THE PROBLEM I HAD INVOLVED THE INSTALLATION OF DRIP EDGES, WHICH I HAD PREPURCHASED FOR THE SIDES OF THE GARAGE. THE CREW PUT THEM UP IN THE WRONG PLACES, AND CONSEQUENTLY, ON ONLY HALF THE GARAGE (ONE SIDE, ONE PEAK, AND HALF OF A PEAK). I WASN'T ABLE TO CLARIFY THINGS WITH THE CREW, SINCE THEY DIDN'T SPEAK ANY ENGLISH (NOT AN EXAGGERATION). THE SALESMAN, WHEN HE FINALLY CALLED ME BACK (APPARENTLY HE WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR HICCUPS, WHICH I GUESS IS A GOOD EXCUSE) WAS NOT VERY FORTHCOMING OR HELPFUL -- JUST SAID THAT'S THE WAY THEY PUT UP DRIP EDGES, AND I HADN'T PROVIDED ENOUGH DRIP EDGE.
