Description of Work: I contacted Scott about some updating I wanted to do in my 1920's basement. Specifically, paint the space, remove a bunch of old hanging wires, improve the floor in some way, remove the old cement laundry tub and replace with a new one, and replace a very old toilet that was down there. We also contacted an asbestos specialist to check on our pipes, and Scott ended up painting some of the pipes in the laundry room. He also fixed a couple of holes in the ceiling in the other rooms of the basement. He also trimmed our metal laundry chutes, because we were always hitting our heads on them! Scott came in, gave me a bid, and put me in touch with a plumber he knows to get the plumbing piece done. He also gave us some suggestions for flooring, which we ended up finding at Costco. He installed it very professionally. The work was done promptly and with excellent quality. Scott was friendly, available, responsive and competent. And the final amount was a bit less than the bid. I'd use him again in a heartbeat.

Description of Work: We had 2 large floor to ceiling mirrors removed, each 36" wide. Scott removed them, repaired the wall where the mirror installers had used glue to fasten mirrors to wall. Came back, sanded and painted. Clean up was excellent.

He arranged a time convenient for us to review what needed to be done. After providing an estimate, he returned to perform the work quickly, at the time we requested. He was punctual, pleasant, and did a fine job. Hours before he arrived, a kitchen faucet broke. He repaired that for us and did not charge for the extra work.
Description of Work: Scott repaired tile grouting in our kitchen and bathroom, and repaired a kitchen faucet.

+ 1 moreI called Scott and explained our repair needs. He asked that I leave voice mail with my contact information since he was in the middle of a project. I did and heard back from Scott shortly thereafter. Scott stopped by the house that evening to assess the damage and provided an oral estimate on the spot He suggested we could buy the door and hardware ourselves to save on his labor costs. We took him up on that offer, bought the materials over the weekend and had Scott come in the following Tuesday to complete the repairs. He was able to salvage one of the door locks saving us even more money. There were also some minor adjustments required during th actual work but Scott did not charge us for this work. The work was completed on time and certainly met our expectations.
Description of Work: Garage side entry door replaced and backyard gate repaired after burglary damage. New hardware installed on both door and gate.

+ 2 moreWe are extremely happy with Scott's work, his helpfulness, promptness, flexibility on time, and his quality most of all. For the number of hours necessary to complete our list, we feel we got a great value.
Description of Work: Scott was prompt, thorough, and complete in his estimate of the work we wanted done. We had a number of smaller projects around our house: outlets, fixtures, doorknobs, repairing a closet door, patching a large hole in our wall, fixing several light fixtures. He was excellent at providing some insight into other projects as he reviewed several other repair jobs while he was on site. He worked quickly and did a wonderful job with each item on our list.

+ 0 moreThe project went very well. I contacted Scott in the mid-morning on Friday and left a message that we needed a window sill repaired on my mother's house. He contacted me within a few hours and we arranged to meet at the house that same afternoon at 4PM. Scott discussed the situation with my brother and they agreed on the procedural plan and price. Because it was cold out that day, Scott wasn't sure when he could do the job but assured us he would be done with it within one week. Scott needed to wait for a predicted warm-up before starting so that he could paint the repair. On Sunday it was warm enough and he was there to do the work. He completed the job including the painting within a few hours. It looked very good and we were all pleased with the result. Scott contacted me on Tuesday to check on our job satisfaction and to tell me where to mail the check. We really appreciated his promptness, reliability and thoroughness. He also lent a needed tool to my nephew who was there.
Description of Work: We are trying to ready a home for sale and there was a window sill that had some rot and needed to be repaired. Scott cut away the rotted area, used a strong filler to strengthen the sill and painted it all to blend in with existing wood trim.

We are very pleased with his work and his service (he even called afterward to make sure we were satisfied).
Description of Work: Unsafe concrete step from house to garage needed reinforcing and widening. Scott suggested a design, installed a wider wooden step and threshold, and put up grab bars instead of a railing.

+ 2 moreWonderful. I called Scott Dunn, the owner and he called me back within 24 hours and set an appointment to look at the bathroom and the scope of the work. He was prompt, offered good suggestions and recommended we install a stone counter top rather than a tile as it would actually be more cost effective. He referred us to a company that did a great job for a great price. All work was done very well, in a timely manner and I was very happy with the entire experience. I would recommend him not only to friends, but also clients - which is the highest praise I can give. He is also trustworthy and I had no problem giving him access to my home while I was at work. One of the best experiences I have had in a long time.
Description of Work: Installed a bath fan where none existed prior, built custom shelving in the bath, moved a heat vent so we could have the custom shelving and installed (and moved it when I gave him the wrong measurements) a light fixture.

The work was done on time and on budget. Once the cables were in place Scott meticulously repaired the walls. We are extremely happy of the quality of the work and are planning to do more work with Scott later. Highly Recommended.
Description of Work: We hired Scott to mount a pair of speakers and a flat screen to the wall. Cables had to be re-routed through the walls. Our condo is an old place so it is always trickier to do any kind of work - job explosion happened very easily.

+ -1 moreScott did a terrific job. I had initially left a voice mail message for him on a Friday night, and he called me back first thing on Saturday morning. This was a tricky repair, with a very heavy and awkward moving staircase, and it took time and skill to make this repair. He was right on target in his estimate, and I found his price very fair. I think he is very honest and ethical and skilled. I will definitely hire him again!
Description of Work: Scott made a repair to my pull-down attic staircase. One of the two folding arms was damaged (a bolt holding together the two major parts of a folding arm fell apart) and the staircase could not be closed. It's an older staircase, and I initially wondered if the whole staircase might have to be replaced. But Scott examined the staircase and felt that this job would just involve a repair. He replaced the broken bolt (no small feat, as parts of the broken bolt and folding arm were welded together, and he had to take these apart, and replace the broken bolt, and then re-connect the folding arm to a very stubborn heavy metal spring.) After that repair, Scott also replaced a light fixture, and gave me some very helpful advice on replacing an old basement window with a block window that can contain my dryer vent (even recommended a company that specializes in this). He also had some excellent ideas on a carpentry job I'm considering.

+ -1 moreMy husband called Scott in the morning to see if he could come by and have a look at what we thought was an old lighting outlet above our garage. Scott came out that day to check it out, and was back installing the light within a couple of hours. The light works beautifully and everyone in the neighborhood is thankful! A few days later I also called Scott to come out a fix our dryer vent tubing, which probably hadn't been replaced in at least a decade. He came out the next day and installed new tubing. (This took a couple hours and cost $160.) Scott is a very nice guy! His communication is very prompt and he shows up when he says he's going to. And he does good work. Thanks, Scott!

We discussed the replacement material and decided to use green-treated lumber rather than cedar, for both longevity and color match with the weathered fence. He gave us an estimated schedule, which was delayed because of continuous rain. He showed up as soon as the weather was appropriate and completed the job satisfactorily and quickly. He cleaned up the site nicely before he left and I later noticed that he had managed to avoid any damage to plantings close to the replaced posts. Scott will be the first call I make the next time I need a handyman!
Description of Work: Scott replaced three rotted fence posts in a 14-year-old 4-foot alternating board cedar fence. He removed the concrete in which the post were set, placed new posts and reinforced the stringer at one point where it was soft.

+ -1 moreI would let him know the next thing I wanted done and we would contact me by e-mail about a week in advance, and then came and got the job done. He did the jobs in four steps. The glass block windows were installed beautifully--I can't express the difference they made in the basement. The windows were so old the wood frames were disintegrating; and had wood panels nailed over them. It was a mess; but after he was done, you couldn't tell anything else had ever been there. He installed the hose faucet at a very reasonable price, and in a very short time. The carpeting was in two large rolls and they had to cut it down and haul it down some old, narrow stairs. All the cuts are clean and joined invisibly. He told me about maintenance for the hose, and left the extra carpet in a neat pile. After installing the kitchen light, there was a small hole that I had agreed ahead of time to patch myself. With Scott, there are no surprises, just a job "nicely Dunn".
Description of Work: Scott installed a kitchen light over the sink. In the basement, he installed four glass block windows, an outdoor hose faucet and laid carpeting.

+ -1 moreScott performed this task very well or as he would prefer, Nicely DUNN. He responded quickly to my request for an estimate. He did charge a small fee, for the estimate. He took the installation book I had to study, before agreeing to do the job and giving me an estimate. He had never done anything like this, before. Some other handymen, refused to do it. The job needed to be done quickly, Scott succeeded in meeting all of my requirements. He was a pleasure to work with. He kept me informed, as to when he would be coming and showed up each time, exactly on time. The job was completed with panash. The cement pad needed to be exposed aggregate, something he had no direct experience with, so he brought in others to help him complete the job. I can not say anything, but how pleased I am with a job, so Nicely Dunn.
Description of Work: I needed an electric wheelchair lift installed, next to a rear deck. Work required removing the steps to the deck, laying a cement pad to support the wheelchair lift platform and lift tower, unpack the lift from the shipping case, stand it on its end, install foundation frame, move tower onto foundation, adjust lift, so that it stopped at proper height, and build safety gate on deck to prevent people from falling off accidentally, when lift was lowered to the ground.

He scheduled the work for a few days later and had everything finished in just a couple of hours. He did exactly what we wanted in terms of building a solid oak ramped threshold down from the hallway which is a couple of inches higher than the bedroom. The door, frame and ramp are meticulously installed, and he left the room immaculately clean. It looks great. We will definitely call Scott for our next job!

He always shows up on time, is friendly and knowledgeable and easy to work. I am very grateful that I can call on him for a variety of projects. It a relief to me that I no longer have to agonize over who to call to resolve so many household problems.
Description of Work: Scott Dunn installed a closet storage rack, trimmed a door down (it would not close after new carpet was installed) and he installed stereo speakers in the kitchen of my home. The speakers were rather difficult to install as I have an older home and it was a bit tricky to find a way to run the speaker wires. The speakers were perfectly placed on my walls and Scott re-painted and caulked the wall and ceiling molding after the installation. Previous to this job, Scott has done a variety of things for me including fixing leaky indoor and outdoor faucets, repairing several doors and a fence, building a great stereo system cabinet and hooking up speakers through a wall to my living area.
