Scott and his assistant did a great job on all of our projects. My favorite is the awesome cat door they constructed in the hallway wall. Now our cats can go down and use their litter boxes in the basement even when the door is closed. The cat door is super-cute; it's framed to look like the rest of our 1940s doors. We love it! I will DEFINITELY use Scott again. He's punctual, gives suggestions on how to solve problems, is clear about his capabilities, is clear about what his cost will be. I liked his assistant, too. We're so happy to have a handyman to call on now!
Description of Work: Scott and his assistant completed the following projects: Cut a cat door in our hallway that gives our cats access to the basement stairs. Laid vinyl tile at a small area at the bottom of a staircase that had been looking terrible for many years. He told us about a great, inexpensive waterproof tile to buy. It works great. Put up a new mailbox Adjusted all of our glass/brass doorknobs (they were sticking and locking) Painted two outside light poles Installed a new dryer vent Weatherstripped all of our doors Fixed our front storm door so it would shut properly

Scott responded promptly to my initial phone call and stopped by within a few days (when I wasn't home) to take a look at our fence. He left a very detailed message with an estimate and description of the work to be done. We scheduled the work within a week or two. Scott stopped by prior to the scheduled work day to drop off the fence posts. We have a custom wood fence and the premade fence posts that Scott had purchased were slightly different from ours. He took careful measurments and returned on the scheduled work day with three hand-hewn fence posts which matched the rest of the fence perfectly. Scott and his assistant carefully deconstructed the adjacent parts of our fence, dug out the existing cement footings, replaced them with footings poured into a round casing. They also reinforced another part of the fence and located one more rotting post. Scott asked about the impact on our neighbors on the other side of the fence. They were careful around our flower beds and kind to and conscientious of our little dog. Scott and his assistant were competent, professional, pleasant to talk with and our fence looks great! I will definitely contact Nicely Dunn for handyman projects in the future. I believe that I can trust them to do a great job at a fair price.
Description of Work: We had three rotting fence posts that needed to be replaced.

Scott was hired to repair the tile only (regrout and caulk). He let me know when he was coming and since a fee is charged for travel time, he asked if there was anything else that I'd like to have done. That's when we added the skylight.
Description of Work: Scott repaired the white tiled tub surround in the corner of the bathtub near the faucet and sealed and painted around the skylight.

They arrived when they said they would and finished in 1 1/2 days. They left the site clean when done. Both Scott & his assistant were both very nice & friendly. He estimate was accurate to what needed doing. I am very impressed with Scott and will definately use him in the future for any jobs I need done.
Description of Work: Scott came & looked over the job & gave me a price and a date for doing the job with a second date in case 2 days were needed. I was having poles replaced on a cedar fence. The old ones were not cemented in so was able to use those holes with some widening due to cementing the new ones in. He also raised it slightly due to roots now pushing against the bottom of some of the boards. He straightened it and looks totally professional. It is probably better than the original.

Scott was very timely in his initial response to my inquiry. He did say that he had a full schedule, but would be in touch very soon ... and he was! He was right on time to look the job over and was also very prompt in preparing and sending me the estimate. When I didn't respond to his e-mail with estimate right away, he followed up to ensure that I received it and to see if I had any questions. I was very pleased with some of the updates that he suggested - recessed lights to replace old 1957 lights and removing fluorescent lighting and replace with a decorate wall sconce. I even had a 'last minute' item that I wanted changed and Scott made it happen and even had some suggestions on how it could be done more economically as well as look better too! Scott let me know well ahead of time when he planned to start the work and how long it would take. He ran into a glitch with the ceiling tiles which took up more time than he anticipated. In order to get my job done while also meeting his commitment to start the next job on a Monday he worked both Saturday and Sunday to finish my job up! That's an admirable work ethic! Scott was exceptionally neat in his work and even the debri to be hauled away was organized and piled neatly! He took extra care to not damage walls, etc. when hauling items in or out and always laid down tarps or blankets to keep the floors clean. I secured three estimates for this job and Scott's was the most reasonable! I told my neighbors how impressed I was with his Scott's overall work and they are now planning on getting an estimate from him for a few jobs they need done! Scott Dunn is programmed into my phone for future jobs and I would highly recommend him for jobs you need Nicely Dunn!
Description of Work: Light updating of finished basement; replaced dropped ceiling frame and tiles, sheet rocked over old, outdated paneling, replaced four old lights with recessed lights and two fluorescents lights with a modern wall sconce.

I got Scott's name off Angie's List on Thursday the 18th and gave Scott a call. He scheduled an appointment that afternoon to look at the job and if it was very minor get it done, otherwise plan when we could get the work done. He showed up on time and saw that it would take more than a couple hours and scheduled to come over the next afternoon. I have an older home with a curved stairwell and Scott was very flexible giving me multiple options on how to do the work. I chose the more extensive option where he would angle the hand rails to match the various slopes of the different parts of the stairwell. He suggested a cover for the window well to the coal chute and got one for me and installed it. He also recaulked the window itself. He finished most of the work in the afternoon and scheduled time the following morning. He arrived on time and finished the work on the upstairs hand rail and did the hand rail to the basement in a couple hours. He did a very professional job (the hand rail looks great) and did a great job cleaning up after himself.
Description of Work: We had hand rails installed in the stairwells from the main floor up to the top floor and down to the basement. We also had some water mitigation done for the old coal chute into the basement.

Please see above. Everything went great.
Description of Work: I needed a bicycle assembled. It was still in the box and Scott took it out of the box and noticed the wheels were bent and the exterior scratched. He suggested that I contact Walmart and let them know. I asked him how much I owed him for coming out to my house and he said nothing. I insisted that he take $10 for gas. As we were talking in the garage I pointed to a new coffee table I had purchased that also needed to be assembled. He said, you want me to do that now? I said ok. He helped me remove the old one and assembled the new one. He also broke down the boxes the table was packed in. He only charged me an additional $20 (I had already given him $10). I will definitely be calling Nicely Dunn everytime I have a project I need help with.

I love working with Scott (have had him come over to help with some other projects in the past) and feel completely confident that whatever he touches is going to turn out great. He transformed the laundry room from a tiny closet that was a poor use of space into a tiny closet that now makes the best use of the square footage. High regard, high recommend.

Scott came for an estimate on time and took a good look at the situation. Asked questions on what I wanted done and gave me an estimate on the spot. Seemed reasonable to me so set up a day to do the work. I got the fence panels and door delivered and Scott was to come on the 1st July. Called on Thursday to say his helper had to go to a funeral. No problem to me. Scott said he would call to reschedule. Called on Sunday and come that day and completed the job. Removed old fence panels and put up the new panels. The posts seemed stable. Then they took out the old entry door to the garage and put in the new one. Done quickly. Looks great and they cleaned up nicely.

Scott gave me two options, one which included replacing the footings, and one which did not. I chose to have him put in new footings, as the fence had been a bit unstable prior to the damage. Scott came out immediately to inspect my fence after initial contact. He spent quite a bit of time at the initial inspection, and listened to all my input and took good notes. He completed the job within 3 weeks, a few days earlier than his estimate. (This is a very busy time of year. for handymen) Scott was punctual and professional, and his work is very high quality. He left my yard spotless. The ultimate cost was at the low end of his estimate, as the old footings were not very deep. I am very pleased with Scott's work and will use Nicely Dunn Handyman Services again.

I think the (2 ft.) part of the description was a type o. I removed closer to 35' of fence, set 6 posts, rebuilt two 5.5' sections and put it all back together. I'm only listing this so it doesn't look like I charged $1500.00 to repair 2 feet of fence. Thanks

Scott gave a very reasonable estimate and installed our screen porch in only 2 working days. His work is thoughtful and well crafted. He also came back the very next day and tweaked something that I initially wasn't happy with. Now we have a fantastic screened porch for the summer! I would definitely recommend him to others, and he'll be our first choice for future house projects. I also appreciate being able to communicate with him by email; he always responds within a day or two.

As noted above we have used and will continue to use Scott Dunn for the many projects that arise on our house. We have an older stucco house (built in 1935) and we are relieved that we can call upon Scott to deal with our maintenance issues. If he cannot handle the repair himself he is helpful in suggesting other resources to resolve problems that are not in his "skill set." However I have discovered that Scott is very competent and can handle and execute the majority of handy man repair issues with very professional results. He has done a number of projects when we have not been at home, and we trust him completely.
Description of Work: My husband and I have used Scott as our handyman for the past 5 years and he is very reliable, efficient and versatile. Recently we had a whole series of projects which needed work and Scott (along with his assistant Clint) completed each project professionally and made great improvements to our home and garage. Scott re grouted and caulked the shower area in our upstairs bathroom, along with some other parts of the tile work in that room. He also installed some new tile in the backsplash area near that bathroom sink. (He also suggested that I have the tile in the bathroom steam cleaned before he did his tile work, and that was a very helpful suggestion too.) The tile work in our bathroom now looks brand new and the look of the whole room has improved dramatically. Scott also adjusted the toilet flush and unclogged the upstairs bathroom sink drain, and moved a refrigerator in the basement and cleaned behind the refrigerator. In addition to the projects listed above, Scott and his assistant repaired and repainted a wooden exterior threshold on a door and that now looks brand new too. The threshold was disintegrating and we thought we might have to replace the whole thing, but Scott's repair work was great and the door threshold looks perfect again. In the back yard, Scott removed an old wooden fence that was falling apart and hauled away all of the debris and our back yard also looks much better without the fence. On the garage, Scott replaced a long gutter and downspout that was damaged, caulked a big crack in the stucco exterior and repaired part of the concrete wall on the outside of the garage. These defects made our garage look tacky and Scott and Clint's repair work was well done and impressive. Scott will also be replacing an exterior "storm" door on our garage in the future. We are totally satisfied with Scott's work. He is very easy to work with, a good communicator and very responsive. He wants his clients to be happy with his work and will return to address any concerns that arise. We are so glad that we can call Scott for any and all handyman issues that arise.

Scott arrived exactly when he said he would, had an assistant with him, and he worked on the main floor sink while the assistant installed the light fixture. Then they both headed to the basement, removed the pedestal sink, and installed the vanity. They were remarkably efficient and professional and quite frankly did more than I expected: for example, the sink in the main floor bathroom turned out to be wobbly because the whole wall was pulling away from the studs--but Scott found a way to reattach everything, anchor the sink solidly at last (I'd been living with a wobbly sink for months!), and level it beautifully. Also, the vanity that I bought for the downstairs bathroom had a door on one side and two drawers on the other. As it turned out, the drawers ran smack into one of the valves--and so Scott cut a small section out of the back of the top drawer, problem solved. Overall, terrific work. I'll definitely have Scott back for other things around the house that I can't manage on my own!
Description of Work: I called Scott because I needed three smallish jobs done: I wanted a new ceiling light fixture installed in my study; my main floor bathroom pedestal sink was wobbly and not well attached to the wall; and I wanted the pedestal sink removed from the bathroom in the basement and replaced with a vanity and sinktop.

Scott took our call and responded a couple days later. Once we got in touch he was able to come and look at the room within a couple of days. The room in question has two pushed out corners, which means that there are actually 8 corners, 6 with odd angles. Scott was upfront in telling us that he had not installed molding with that type of corner, but indicated a willingness to research and and promised to let us know if he thought the job was beyond his capabilities. We appreciated his honesty. He contacted us after just a couple of days saying that he had a plan and had purchased some sample molding. He came back a few days later with the sample molding to make sure that what he intended to do would work. We scheduled him to do the work the next week, and he and his partner arrived on time and completed the work within the time frame they promised (about 4.5 hours). The molding looks great and the prices could not be beat.
Description of Work: Installed crown molding in a 15x15 room. Two corners of the room have slanted pushouts, so the room actually has 8 corners instead of the usual 4.

Not well. I like to work with people who take more pride in the work they do vs. what they can charge for it - Scott/Nicely Dunn is not one them. I called Scott after seeing his Angie's list reviews and even used him on an earlier project to install crown molding in a bedroom, which generally went well outside of paying more than I originally targeted with him. When I asked Scott for a bid on this new project, I told him I wanted to keep this capped at $300 labor, however would give him a little room, on his honor. I did this because he charges $60/hour and didn't want to spend much beyond $300 without getting a competitive bid. I later received a $460 bill (all labor) with a job unfinished. He installed the 3/4 round but didn't fill the nail holes and gaps against the base boards. Further, in many instances, gaps along the flooring were prevalent (i.e. the 3/4 round sat above the flooring) and nails were pounded into nothing supporting the 3/4 round. I asked him why the job was unfinished and his response was: "some would consider this job complete". He then said he would come back and complete the job for $60 even though he had 2-3 hours of work left (I guess he wasn't one of those that considered the job complete). I originally agreed to have him come back because I wanted the job done, but after learning from my wife that his billing included close to an hour for caulking a 1 foot strip in our bathtub, I told him not to come back. I later paid another contractor $150 to finish, and in some cases repair, his work. I still have 3/4 round in many areas that doesn't fit flush to floor. I'm told a larger fitting should have been used, which I would have expected Scott to suggest before installing the standard fit (I purchased) throughout the entire floor plan. In the end, I paid $610 labor for a poor installation. If it's my business, I would have come back and finished/repaired the job at no cost, rather than attempting to squeeze another $60 on incomplete and overbid work. Needless to say, I won't use Scott/Nicely Dunn again.
Description of Work: Installed 3/4 round molding in hallway and 3 bedrooms - no removal of existing 3/4 round.

He came over a week prior and gave me an estimate. Showed up on time with all his equipment. When he was done he cleaned up everything. Ended up he was on time, quality was great and he the price was lower than what he quoated me in the estimate. It does not get any better. I now have a handyman I trust. He was good at diagnosing what needed to be done. He was flexible and made an extra trip to allow the area to dry before finishing the work. He went beyond what we were expecting by going to more than one store to find a good match for the paneling and thinking of installing the vent. We found Scott very professional , highly skilled, and a pleasure to work with. We plan to hire him again.
Description of Work: Scott repaired damage caused by a leaking pipe in the basement. He bought and installed replacements for water-damaged insulation, sheetrock and paneling. He installed a vent in the wall to help prevent future freezing of the pipe. He did an excellent job of staining the new paneling to match the old.
