Genz-Ryan Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning

They looked it over and found nothing wrong. They did not charge me for the visit as it was still under warranty. I had no problems after his visit.

Fine. They have service our units for several years.

The first visit was good, but expensive. Plumber did an assessment and then checked the faucet and found that it was plugged with debris. Cleaned out and left. Next day, faucet wouldn't work again. Called again and a young man came out and he was good. He thought the pipes were frozen so he cut a hole in ceiling and we put space heaters in the room. He told me that if that didn't work, I could call him back and he wouldn't charge me for the return visit. That didn't work, so I called back. They told me they would send someone out the next day. No one came. After calling four times, someone came out and checked the faucet again. Once again, it was clogged. He charged me again - saying that he couldn't guarantee the work. I do understand that the faucet got clogged again, so I didn't mind paying the second time, but the third time, after waiting for days and getting no return call - that was the final straw. Just my opinion, but I won't use them again.

Terrible doesn't begin to tell the story. Installed a new furnace, first day technicians arrived on schedule but project was suppose to take six hours ran into 8 1/2 hours. Two days later I called them back because I noticed a crooked gas line. Supervisor cam out and straightened and admitted he would not have left the project with the line looking like that. Two days later furnace wasn't heating, technician came out and said that a switch had PVC shavings from their installation and that there was a loose fitting vacuum hose. I supplied zip ties which he used to clamp the vacuum hoses. Two days later furnace wasn't heating again, temp in house was 59 degrees. Same Supervisor came out that straightened the gas line and told me that the vent line, which they hooked up wasn't within code of what was needed on a 120,000 BTU furnace. They hooked up to the old 2" PVC vent line from our old 26 Year furnace, when a 3" PVC vent line was required. Supervisor's Boss had to come out and see what was needed to do the job right. He was all full of himself, glib, and just a piece of work. They ended up running a new 3" vent line along with a 3" cold air intake that should have been installed to begin with. The glib Supervisor wanted me to sign on disclaimer on his phone stating that they would do the needed repairs, which included cutting holes 5 holes in a bedroom ceiling in order to support the lines, but the disclaimer stated I wouldn't bad mouth them. I refused to sign until he removed the last sentence. The furnace ran for about a week and we woke up to no heat and 49 degree house. I called and left a message at 6:45 on a Saturday morning, no call back. I waited until 7:30 and called again, no call back. I called again at 8:00, 8:30, 9:00, 9:30, no call back. I got in my truck and went to their facility in Burnsville, walked in the door and there were two ladies that were at the reception desk but they were from another Company that shared their building. I asked to see the Owner of Genz-Ryan and they stated that he wasn't in and Genz-Ryan's Dispatcher was in the back room and was too busy to come and see me. The two ladies went back and came back to me with an answer that someone would call me back with 60 minutes. That didn't happen, I called their number again and left another message. I started calling other HCAC Contractors to get Service, several called me back and said they could be out within 2 hours. Finally a Technician from Genz-Ryan called and said he would be out in about an hour. He arrived, shut off the power and restarted the furnace. I asked what code the furnace computer had displayed to what the problem was. He said there was no error code displayed. I questioned that because the furnace had gone off in the middle of the night and it had not restarted. He couldn't explain why there was no error code. He ended up adjusting some dip switches that control fan speed or something, not sure, furnace has been working for 48 hours now. One of the HCAC Contractors that I had called that Saturday morning, Standard Heating, came out yesterday and assessed the situation and pretty much just shook his head. One of the biggest errors he discovered was, the new 3" vent and cold air intakes were run out the side of our house towards our swimming pool. They are supposed to be no closer than 25' away from chemicals, and our pool is about 10' away. I am checking on my options at this point, but have stopped payment on our check, which I did when the venting issued came up. Sorry for the long story, but short story is, STAY AWAY FROM GENZ-RYAN AND TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS THE SAME THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Genz Ryan technicians inspected the furnaces, preformed periodic maintenance and identified several problems I was not aware of. They provided options for dealing with the problems. i will definitiely hire them again!

It was EXPENSIVE. More than the going rate. They charged me $1875 to replace an electric water heater in one of our rentals. This is DOUBLE the going rate. I know this because I had a similar water heater replaced in one of our other units this past summer for just under a $1000. The year before that, I replaced another one for about the same cost. This unit was in a different part of the city so I called them since they were close. Be sure to ask them up front how much your service will cost. I failed to to this. Since it was a Friday and our renter needed hot water, I couldn't wait another day to call another plumber otherwise I would have. I will never call or use them again.

They wanted to charge me $300 for a 15 min job, which no one told me until the plumber arrived. I was expecting it to be about $150 because it was an easy, obvious fix. I even purchased the parts and had tried to repair myself but one piece was hard to remove so I had to get a plumber to come out. I even gave them plenty of days notice, not a rush deal, not on a weekend. They charge way too much. We did negotiate at $175 for the 15 min job, which still is way too high.

Very well. The technicians tried to get warrantee coverage for the faucet with no luck. The revised hose shut offs was well done. Both technicians were very friendly and conversational. Tom was part of the crew that installed our kitchen two years ago. It was nice to see him again.

Everything went smoothly as planned. Brent was very professional, respectful, polite, and easy to talk to. The whole Genz-Ryan team is excellent.

The technician was early, and extremely courteous and helpful. They did a wonderful job and I would highly recommend their services. We will use them again anytime!

Repair seems to have been good because I haven't had any problems with it since then. The service technician Nick interacted patiently and courteously with me. I spent much more $ than I planned to, and his behavior had a lot to do with that decision of mine. We'll see how the 3-year warranty period goes. The duct cleaning/dryer vent cleaning was done efficiently and professionally. This was my first lifetime experience of duct cleaning in any house of mine, and it was a positive experience. The customer service staff at their main office is unusually responsive, patient, competent, courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. Without those staff, I think they'd lose a significant competitive advantage in this highly-competitive industry in our metro area.

Overall good. I did not get a competitive estimate but the repair seemed expensive considering the actual labor required to do the job. They also presented a long lost of other optional upgrades to make which was a waste of time and effort on their part. If they are called to make a repair, it should be just that, not trying sell upgrades and add one. But as far as professionalism and quality of the work, they did great.

Genz-Ryan sucks. We called a week ago to have them come to our home to install water line before our new fridge arrived. Bill Blanche did the work. They charge $99 just to come out, no free estimates. Bill Blanche spent 4 hours at our home trying to upsell every "problem" he could find. Original quote was $5,000 for work plus other home improvements. He spoke about guitars (mutual interest w/ my husband). Husband did not assent to $5k and was not sure about price for "only" the water line, which Bill quoted at $1000. Husband said he didn't want to pay him $99 for nothing, but the quote seemed really high... Bill then told him if he did not take his quote, then he just got "paid $99 to talk about guitars." Really? Bill Blanche said he'd help us out on the $1k quote. He would get our price down $70 by reducing the two year warranty down to 30 days. Great. When my husband asked why the quote was so high, Bill said "the company has to pay for their trucks, and healthcare costs for employees." Not that this was a difficult or complex job. They needed to pay for their high overhead. Nice. They do not quote by the hour or materials, just by job. I asked manager Jeff Dehler for an itemized bill, and was told it was a "complex formula" they had in their computers that calculated price. I asked for that formula, and he said he would not give it to me. I asked for three quotes to other customers on three comparable jobs, he would not give it to me. We priced materials. Copper pipe, $6. Hammer arrester $12, water shutoff valve $4. Flexible water line from pipe to fridge, $8. Copper T-bracket and elbows, solder, let's call it $10. So... roughly $40 in materials... Mileage? I would assume that was part of the $99 fee to look and give bid. With the $99 for estimate/mileage charge and the $40 in materials, all that's left is the charge for being a plumber and time spent on job... $693. That being said, he did a good job. I respect those that work and that people should be paid for that work. I know companies have costs of their own - nothing is for free. THAT being said, we were robbed. There is a difference between being charged for work at a fair comparable rate, and getting GOUGED because of ignorance. I don't believe this was fair. And the fact the manager just brushed me off and did not even attempt to work with equals a BAD experience. Caveat emptor, my friends. Buyer beware. We were uninformed and we needed the work done, but people should not be taken advantage of like this... Please think twice before working with them. At least arm yourself with this info and protect yourselves... The Genz-Ryan jingle has been adjusted a bit... "I HATE those guys!"

Every service was delivered with professionalism by excellent employees who take pride in their work. A full explanation of the situation with options. Never any pressure.

This company is a total scam and takes advantage of people who aren't familiar with HVAC. My first beef with Genz-Ryan is the 2 month wait for an initial appointment - seriously? July 13 is the first available when we called in mid-May? Lo and behold there was a bunch of cancellations today so they had all day to come and look at my system. The technician Tyler didn't explain what was wrong with my furnace and A/C and said he couldn't fix whatever-it-was until I paid for the service up front. He said I'd have to go to HVAC school to know what the part was. Being cheeky he asked what I thought the premium service would be and I estimated it at $1500, thinking that was a ridiculous amount, and he then asked how much my car cost because it was closer to that. What?! The price to "fix" my working HVAC system was over $4100 and the "bandaid" service was over $800. How is this a scam? They won't give you a written estimate or tell you in writing what is wrong with the system. My advice? Search Angie's List for a local mom & pop shop who's been in business for a while and knows what they're doing.

Genz Ryan was the company who installed all of our HVAC when we built our house. 1 1/2 years into living in our home, our A/C unit malfunctioned and we had to have them come out and fix it- instead of fixing the issue they just put a "band aid" on it. Exactly 2 years later (now only 4 year old A/C) again, same issue. This time they said "we are out of warranty" and we even had to get the owner involved. They sent a tech out who made a big mess of freon, never fixed the issue. This resulted in an additional tech coming out to tell us what a mistake the first one made (we had to pay for each visit). Again- only put a "band aid" on the situation. Another 2 years later, exact timing- SAME problem, this time they told us we had to get an entire NEW system (at 5 1/2 years???). Our A/C unit has never worked right and within our warranty time frame they never fixed the issue, just put a band aid on to take us through "out of warranty". Our A/C issue has been announced as faulty parts (with other homes in the area) that Genz Ryan will not cover NOR will they EVER try to resolve an issue that is their problem. I would NEVER recommend them to anyone- they have no ethics (and this comes from having worked with the owner on our problem).

It went great. Matt, who I have used in the past and requested at my home, was prompt, professional, respectful and a fantastic plumber. Some of the required parts were very specialized due to the age and condition of the original plumbing. Matt assessed the situation. He completed what he was able to do and then he contacted a teammate, Shawn, to bring the special parts on site. Shawn was able to complete the plumbing. Again, it was a smooth and flawless installation. Both of the service technicians were professional, respectful, knowledgeable and they followed through with exactly what they said would happen. Service is clearly a priority with these men and with Genz-Ryan. Thank you.

Perfect. This is a supplement to my previous review,

We had a zone system installed in our basement in 2006. They put in a system that was discontinued. It stopped working after 8 years. We had another one installed in December 2015. The module kept falling off. We had them out a couple of times for various other work and they put it up each time. Finally after 1 year they said they would have to charge us because the warranty was up. We looked in to the warranty from Honeywell and learned it has a 5 year warranty but not the 1 year that genz Ryan gives. They did subpar work, gave older equipment, sent people who were not trained, they told me directly that it was their fault and would take care of replacing the product. They wanted to sell me a furnance because ours is 17 years old and when I said "no" then they said that they would not fix our zone system even though they admitted it was faulty. We spent $3500. And all they cared about was the money and making a sale. I will never have them out again nor buy any of their products. Poor salesmanship.

Genz Ryan technician spent 30- 45 minutes on the furnace cleaning filters and checking it out. The technician told me that both the blower motor and the exhaust motors where drawing heavier amp than recommended. He quoted over $1600 to replace them both. Since the furnace is 19 years old he suggested a new Amanda furnace for a quote of $4550. Within 10 days of the tuneup the furnace stopped working. I was suspicious of the timing so called Angel Air. Technician found the "P" tap plugged, and said the number one thing to do on a furnace tune up is to clean this filter, which Genz Ryan did not do. Furnace came back on line. He tested the amp draw on both fan motors and found them both acceptable. He also quoted $3500 for a new Amanda furnace and said one I have is a better furnace and quoted $4100 to replace it with exact quality replacement. Service call was $89. I called Genz Ryan on Friday morning and explained why I wanted to discuss this service with the manager. I was told she would call me back sometime in the next week. That is all I needed to know. I would not recommend them.

This company is joke. Ryan A tried to defraud me of $1200-$2500 and then I tried to follow up with Natalie to address my concerns but she was always too busy or unavailable to talk. These people are not interested in helping you, only in separating you from your money. Oh and by the way, I got a second opinion on that $1200-$2500 repair and turns out no repairs are needed. At least I now know an honest company to call and it is NOT GenzRyan.
