I called to ask him to figure out why the water pressure in my house was dropping. He came out, adjusted two faucets, and told me the water pressure elsewhere looked okay to him. I accepted that, but then the water pressure kept dropping. A couple of weeks later I asked him to come back so he could see how much lower it was, and see that it was the whole house. He spent a long time checking various faucets and valves (even though we had made it clear the problem was not with any individual faucet) and then finally said it must be the pressure from the city which was low. Since he was going to be leaving without fixing the problem again (and charging us even more this time, since he stayed longer) I asked him to measure the pressure coming into the house so that we could have a number when we explain the problem to the city. He said his pressure gauge was broken. I asked him to come back after he'd got a new pressure gauge and just read off that number, since we would need it to convince the city there was a problem. He told me that he could tell there was a problem by the rate at which a bucket filled (a process which splashed water all over my laundry room.) I asked him to please come back one more time and just give us a quick reading from a gauge. He refused, insisting that it "doesn't matter" even though I told him that it mattered to me as the customer. I called him to fix a problem with my whole house's water pressure, and he charged me hundreds of dollars for tinkering with individual faucets and refused MEASURE the houses's water pressure. In the end he gave us a discount on the second visit, but since I feel like he stayed much longer than necessary (to tell me only what I already knew) I still feel like I came out behind. If he would have just made the tiny effort to replaced his gauge and come back out to do a 5 minute measurement, I would be a much happier customer, but apparently that "doesn't matter" to him.

Response from Ross Plumbing
In response to the review by [Member Name Removed] I first went out to the customers home on June 5th, 2018. She complained that she had low water pressure in 2 specific areas of her home. The rear sillcock had just a dribble of water coming out of it. After I did some checking, I ended up finding that the supply valve was almost turned off. I don't know who partially opened the valve, or if it was shut off for the winter at all. No one knows nothing? After opening the valve, there was plenty of water coming out of it. I was then directed to the kitchen faucet. This was also coming out at a dribble. After I removed a clogged vacuum breaker, it to was running just fine. At this time I checked a few other faucets in the house, and although the pressure wasn't great, it seemed adequate. The customer seemed happy at this time. I was called again last week because customer says that the water pressure has gotten worse. I came back out on June 28th. At first it seemed like the water pressure was lower until I did a more thorough check of all the plumbing. Quite often a culprit for low water pressure is caused by a malfunctioning water softener. Although by- passing the softener seemed to make no difference. I checked by physicaly pulling apart components of it to make sure that the softener was not a part of the problem. I then was able to check the main water line from the city main to see what the pressure was like. Although it wasn't great, it seemed adequate. I found that the house sits about 100 feet higher than the street level on a hill. This would also lower the overall pressure from the street main, assuming there is no other problem with the main. I told Mr [Member Name Removed] that they could just call the local city water dept to see if anything unusual is found regarding the water pressure and if anything can be done about it. I'm sure this is a free service as the city is responsible for supplying the water to your home. So, unless something has physically changed, I would have to assume that the main incoming pressure would always have been the same. I noticed that some faucets seemed to have decent pressure, yet others were poor. For instance the basement bathroom seemed to have adequate pressure, yet the laundry faucet and main floor bathroom seemed poor. The laundry faucet was so poor, it was running only about 1 gallon per min. After unscrewing the aerator and just scrapping some of the calcium from it, it changed to about 4 gallons per min. By leaving the aerator off completely, it ran about eight gallons per min. I found the same problem with the bar faucet, lavatory faucet and kitchen faucets. This leads me to believe that most off the pressure problems are not just because of poor water main problems, but with calcium build up on faucets, valves and water lines. I asked the customer how old the water softener was, and they replied that it was fairly new. Last summer was what Mr [Member Name Removed] said. I have to ask why you would have a softener, which is badly needed in this area, and have zero salt in it. I estimate that with the amount of salt the container holds, it must be at least 6-12 months since anyone filled it up. No wonder there seems to be a calcium build up! This also co insides with their pressure drop problems. Seems the customer isn't able to help herself by just adding salt to the softener, then complains about her plumbing problems. [Member Name Removed] did not come home till I was already there for over 2.5 hours working on the plumbing with her husband overlooking everything I was doing , so she did not see everything that I did for her, Instead, she immediately had a hostile attitude with me which was very unpleasant. She was insulting my intelligence by asking if I had checked the meter she says is outside the house, which is actually a gas meter. You don't need to be a scientist to know that if you had a water meter outdoors in Minnesota, it was freeze solid every winter. She insulted me by asking if I was a "REAL" plumber. I have been plumbing for a decade before she was even born. A licensed Master Plumber by 1974. I do not appreciate having to give a customer a 50 % discount just to keep them happy. I'm sure the customer wouldn't appreciate working and not getting paid. I think this is very hypocritical of the customer. Someone that we will no longer tolerate. To sum up, nothing can be done to increase the water pressure until the main is checked by the city water dept. They are the ones that supply the water.

The job went well.
Description of Work: We had a plumbing emergency today 2/10/18-a Saturday of course! Ross was booked with other people, but was able to come and fix our problem. The dishwasher hose came disconnected under the sink and was draining thru the bottom of the cabinet and thru the ceiling below. Our carpet was soaked, we had items floating in a bin that was on the floor in that area. But, for Ross is was an easy fix and he did a superb job! I would definitely recommend him to others, especially on the weekend and in an emergency.

I've used Ross Plumbing several times - and as expected, services were completed perfectly and professionally. Despite calling on a holiday weekend, Ross answered quickly - and performed the work that same day. Ross is a throwback - you can trust him, his work, and his costs. I always feel I've received a fair price and very quality work.

Description of Work: Ross plumbing was incredibly responsive - we discovered there was a leak in the pipe to our kitchen sink and water was dripping into the crawl space beneath our kitchen. We called Ross on a Tuesday night around 8PM and were contacted immediately back and appt set for the next day. The leak was found, pipes replaced and all in all only cost us $250 - great quality and service for the price.

I called these guys and they took my info down and called me back within the hour to schedule the appt. What was great is they didn't play games but gave me specific things to do to alleviate the issue until the appointment. I really admired the honesty and straightforwardness. I wasn't there for the actual repair...but my wife sent me a simple text that said "best plumber ever". This company will be my go-to guys for any plumbing needs going forward!

I first tried a do-it-yourself repair using parts from a big-box superstore, but the 45-year-old Moen cartridge was broken and corroded into place. I couldn't get it out, but I couldn't get it back into place either. Because it was leaking severely, and they didn't use isolation valves back in those days, we had to turn off the water to the house to stop the leaking. This was a Friday-afternoon DIY project, which in hindsight wasn't my brightest moment. Beginning at about 7 pm on a Friday we began looking for plumbers on Angie’s List. Nearly all of the listings show normal M-F business hours, and no 24-hr emergency service. In parallel with this we used the phone book yellow pages to find plumbers that advertise 24-hr emergency service, then cross-checked them in Angie’s List. In doing this we made an interesting observation: the larger the ad, the lower the Angie’s List rating (especially for price). Even after calling several of these listings, I ended up calling and talking with an answering machine at the various companies that advertise 24-hr service. Finally, I called Ross Plumbing at about 9 pm on a Friday night. Ross answered the call on the third ring, and together we agreed to a time during the day the following afternoon (a Saturday). He had other jobs lined-up during the day, and we were going to be gone anyway. Meanwhile, our family took a trip to the local health-club for showers that evening. Ross said he’d call me when he’s on his way over on Saturday, and he was within a half-hour of the time that he estimated. He said he has lots of experience with Moen, and that he knew how to remove the broken cartridges. At this point I should note that one of the plumbers who I left a message for called me back and he said that if the cartridge was broken he’d have to replace the entire fixture and this could cost several hundred dollars (I thanked him and said I already found someone to do the job). Ross went right to work; he removed the broken cartridge and replaced it with a new one. He was done within an hour, with everything put back together, then he tested it to show that it works. The service call was $49 (he came from the northern suburbs to Bloomington and doesn't charge extra on Saturday), labor was $116, and the new OEM cartridge was $24 ($189 total). He did great work, he was honest, fair, and courteous (even though I introduced myself by name, he called me “sir” throughout the visit). He doesn’t have much history on Angie’s List, and with service like this, he deserves to earn this excellent review. I would definitely recommend him!

They installed the sink and faucet without difficulty, but kept breaking the pipe leading to it so our initial job got more expensive with each passing minute.
