Description of Work: purchased big deal for ceiling fan installation and was able to schedule quickly i was informed via email however that a trip charge of nearly $50 would be due . despite the promise to inquire about why this was not noted in promotion or that if it would be required, no one contacted me again. the electrician Joe arrived as promised and his work was fine. he was told he was to collct the trip charge that was still uncofirmed; my husband paid him as i was at work. i do not feel that the actual cost was accurately represented nor that once qustioned the company was straightforward. i could have used a more local electrician for the same money, which knowing what i know now, i regret my choice of trying to save money instead of dealing with people in my own area (sw minneapolis) who advise of any and all costs up front rather than offering a promotional price with no mention of "trip charges". we have had good experiences with Angie's List transactions up to this point. i wish that two things had happend 1) that any charges over the "big deal" price was stated upfront ie trip charges i stead of being advised via email well after my purchase and 2) that someone had communicated after she had promosied she would answer my question about the aforementioned additional fee. the experience leaves my unhappy; ii feel like i was not told the truth and had no recourse as i had paid for the promotion in advance of the service.

Fine service.
Description of Work: when the crew of two arrived they informed me that there was an extra charge of 450.00 per fan plus the 90.00 deal i already paid. i would still like to know why this was a deal and what the original money i paid entitled me to; it was very misleading advertising.

Description of Work: I called four of Angie's top rated electricians in my area. When I spoke with the rep at Randy's she mentioned the Angie's List deal they had going on. I asked her for an estimate on installing a single outlet in our home, and she said that while she couldn't give me an exact figure she would "talk to the guys" and give me an idea of what they would typically charge. The amount I was given was $150, and she said it may be a little more, but that the $200 deal should cover it. When the technician arrived, he said that their standard charge for installing an outlet was $250, not $150, so I would have to pay an extra $50+ ($56, to be exact) if I wanted it installed. Since he was already there and I needed the outlet installed ASAP, I told the tech to go ahead and install it and I would pay the extra money. I called Randy's back and spoke with the rep who had given me the estimate. She said that she NEVER quotes prices over the phone and had absolutely no recollection of our phone call. Also, I'm not sure if this is standard practice, but instead of wiring a new circuit he just tapped into the one in the garage. It may have been a misunderstanding on my part, but I still felt duped. I rated them a 'B' overall because the outlet works, but their business practices could use some work.

Description of Work: I naively thought the electrical work I was asking for could be done for the amount that I'd prepaid and it would cover a couple hours of work. I assumed I was paying by the hour. Instead, I was charged $199. for each issue I wanted them to correct, I requested 2 bedside wall lamps be repaired which they determined needed to be taken to a lamp mender. I requested 2 outdoor outlets be repaired which they replaced. Finally, we had an outdoor outlet mounted on a post that was losing power after a few minutes. They replaced both the outlet and the circuit breaker which cleared up the issue for now. They said it was possible the issue was in the wiring underground and only time would reveal whether more repair would be required. Joe was there for appoximately 90" and Kyle was there for about one hour. They were both very personable and professional, and appeared to do great work. I just felt $523 was awfully steep and I still have to pay to have the lamps repaired. I probably wouldn't use Randy's again because of the pricing.

Description of Work: Randy's did good work, but I was very disappointed with the pricing. I bought $200 worth of electrical service for $69. and assumed that would cover at least 2 hours of work. But when the electrician showed up (he was right on time, but I had to wait 2 weeks for an appointment, some of which was due to my schedule, to be fair), he pulled out a pre-done pricing sheet and told me that for him just to look at one overhead fixture that was not working properly it would be $199, and on top of that they charge a $49 service call fee, so I was already going to have to spend almost another $50 just to get one item "diagnosed" and maybe repaired. He explained that it could take him a long time to figure out the problem, which I understood, but it didn't matter if once he looked at it there was a quick fix or not -- still the same $199. And, in fact, it only took 20 minutes for that entire project! I also had two bathroom fixtures that I wanted installed, and the "price-sheet" said $73 for EACH of them, even though it only took 40 minutes for that job. As part of that job, he found that there was no ceiling box installed, so asked if I wanted that done. No problem there, it obviously needed to be done, but that was ANOTHER $100, for 20 minutes work. They also have a pre-printed "fuel surcharge" of $7.75 on the invoice, which is in addition to the $49 service call fee!! The electrician was courteous, professional and did a good job, so I'm not unhappy with the actual work, but the pricing was a lot higher than I expected for the work done, and there was no flexibility or discount when it turned out the $199 job was a simple fix. Because of that I can't recommend them.

Description of Work: The special offer was $69 for $200 worth of electrical service. The electrician was prompt, polite, and worked quickly. He had two other appointments so he left after two hours and returned at the end of the day to complete the work. The electrician installed 4 new outlets, changed 2 outlets from 2 to 4 receptacles, updated 2 exterior outlets with appropriate equipment, and removed wiring in the garage that was a safety issue. He said that all the work done meets the current code required by the city. I originally wanted a couple outlets added to the house, but he pointed out the poor and potentially dangerous wiring in one area. Obviously this was far more expensive than I had anticipated, but I do feel comfortable knowing that the hazardous wiring is gone and everything is up to date.

Description of Work: I had a floodlight installed on my garage. They were 3 hours late. I was charged $300 for 10 minutes worth of work. The flood light sagged. After I inspected it further the screw had be stripped and I had to correct the problem myself. They didn't waterproof around the junction box that was installed so I also have to do that myself so that when it rains my garage doesn't burn down.

Description of Work: Electrician came to do an estimate. There was no mention in discussions to set up a time that the estimate would cost a service fee of $57. He demanded payment on the spot. Was very unfriendly and acted like he was in a hurry and was annoyed by the appointment. Wouldn't recommend at all. I still have $200 in services and I am not sure I will even use it.

Description of Work: While the company provided the service consistent w/the Angie's List offer, they also wanted to charge me an additional fee (approx. $60) for their "service call." When I contested this, they waived it, but an important detail to either clarify in terms and conditions of promotion, or from the contractor directly when setting up the appointment.
