Everything went as expected, but the process exceeded my expectations. The team was great at explaining my options, identifying some possible upgrades for future, let me add on two outlets to the work and provided a professional experience. I hire for quality and Randy’s Electric was that and more!

I only had them come out for a bid. I was gone to do "school" with grandchild and not due back until 2. Fortunately, I got home at 1:10 because they showed up early - 1:20 pm. Waited two weeks for bid and although the customer interface was really good, the pricing was way out of line for me and what I have paid in the past

Dan arrived promptly and checked the smoke detector and found that it was the carbon monoxide detector that was chirping. The CM detector batteries needed changing. The smoke detector was past 10 years old and there was a red light flashing intermittently on it but it was not chirping. Dan asked me how many detectors I had and we found 3 that were hard-wired. He suggested that all 3 be changed because they were older than 10 years. I asked him how much one detector would cost and he told me $200. He said the reason to update all the detectors were so a new one wouldn't interfere with the old ones. I mentioned that would $600 and asked for just the one to be replaced. He did so in a matter of minutes which basically required him to remove the old one and plug in the new one. My total bill was $270 which included a $59 charge for just coming out. The detector seems to be working fine with the other ones and I was happy to have the unit replaced. However, I thought that was a bit expensive for a smoke detector so checked out prices of Kidde smoke alarms on Kidde's Website. I found the model Dan plugged in to be $33.60. That is an almost 500% markup of that detector. I feel Randy's Electric is deceitful in marking up this kind of device so much and I will not request their services in the future.

I paid the emergency fee because I could not wait two weeks to get our electricity back up. The electricians came the next day. They quickly identified and replaced two circuit breakers. This all amounted to less than an hour's work, two new circuit breakers (the exact model cost about $4 each), turning of the power to the panel, unscrewing one wire on each breaker, pulling them out, pushing in the new ones, screwing the wires into the new breakers and turning the power back on to the panel. The cost for each of the two installations was $211 for a total of $422.00 plus the emergency fee! I called Randy's to discuss this and was treated respectfully which I appreciate. But the cost of this work seems way too high! I am satisfied with everything but the cost.

Good and Bad. I had decided to replace my front porch light fixture and replace and repair the light fixture on on outdoor pole in my back yard. I also wanted to repair or replace my front doorbell. This was right at the start of the shutdowns due to COVID-19 so I was having a lot of trouble even finding someone willing to come to my home. I also was starting to work from home for the first time when I scheduled service. My appointment was on May 7th. Joe, the technician that came out arrived on time and was friendly and professional. I explained what I needed and had already purchased the light fixtures, solar monitor for the light pole and a doorbell and chime. Joe looked over everything and determined that it would be too difficult and costly to repair the original doorbell and I decided to purchase a Honeywell Plug-In wireless doorbell from him. Joe gave me three quotes for the work I needed. The lowest quote was $861.00 and the other two quotes were in the range of $1,200 to $1,500 dollars. I owed Joe a $60.00 fee just for coming out to give me a quote and with my anxiety over the virus and working from home and the trouble with getting anyone to come out I decided to have him do the work. While doing the work Joe also sold me a can (for $100.00) for the porch light fixture. The work took around 2 hrs and my bill was $961.00. I knew that I paid too much for the repair but I wasn't sure how much I was overcharged. I did call the company and was given a $25.00 credit that I qualified for but forgot to ask for during the visit. I've checked online and the doorbell I purchased sells for around $50 before markup. I also recently worked with a company called Handy.com and when I asked them for a quote for the same work (not including doorbell) I was quoted $141.00 for the work which they expected would take 2 hrs. Randy's did good work for me but I know I was severely overcharged for this repair. I know that I cannot afford to hire them again without a better breakdown and explanation of their pricing.

After getting a few quotes Randy's offered me the most comprehensive solution. A sub panel to help clean up some wiring mess, Tesla wall charger installed to my specs, and added arc fault and grounding to several outlets. Also did a whole home surge protection after noticing how old the xcel service is and they thought it wouldn't be reliable and would be an affordable way to protect the expensive equipment in the house. Sure enough a few weeks latter I got to start experiencing the joys of the old overhead wired grid in my new home. Might have them by latter for aux power or backup.

I requested quotes from four companies ranging from $5,044 to $16,500, of which, Randy's Electric completed the work at $6,763. It was $6,156 for the upgraded panel, upgraded service and electrical work. It was $607 for the Tesla Gen3 Wall Connector install. I chose Randy's Electric over competitor as they (1) gave three realistic estimates based on transparency of materials and labor cost, (2) were responsive w/ consistent electricians, and (3) had a reasonable yet realistic cost. The low cost provider was Stafford Home Services, but I declined to use them because the individual came in the house for 15 minutes, acknowledged he wasn't electrician, but gave an estimate, which felt rushed and as though he didn't want to be there. The $16,500 quote came from ServiceToday, which felt significantly overpriced. Moreover, the lead electrician did no estimate having his apprentices wander house. They also said everything needed replacement. Randy's Electric was easy to work with by doing easy payment processing, electronic quotes/invoices, kept the house clean, kept us informed, and were very responsive. We also used Tom (lead electrician) who was consistent during each trip. He also "listened" to our asks at each step inspecting the needs himself. I ask each other service provider about a dedicated circuit to the sub pump and none of them remembered. I will continue to work with Randy's Electric as long as they continue to do a good job and provide reasonable quotes.

I sorry, but I can not recommend this company. The gentlemen that showed up were prompt, attentive, friendly and competent. But the pricing was exquisitely expensive. There was a travel charge of $99 that I don’t believe was applied to the purchase. The cost of grounding my water meter was $1,200. Granted, this was on an apartment building, but still, $1,200? And it cost $3xx per GFCI install. They were there less than 2 hours, and this includes a half hour run to the store. In total, $2,200 for less than 2 hours’ work. Seems excessive, but you be the judge. If I hadn’t been in a time crunch, I would have shopped around more.

Thank you for the feedback. We appreciate the kind words about our Journeyman Electrician and we are sorry to hear we were unable to show the value in our work. During his visit, he took the time to compile several options for you to choose from in order to address the observations that were made by the City Inspector. You selected the option that best addressed the needs at the time. We are sorry you felt you didn’t receive the value for your money. We will review our on-going training and ask our electricians to deepen their explanations of the work they perform and how it ensures a safe electrical system for you and your tenants. We have a lifetime guarantee on our workmanship and use quality parts while setting a high standard for the service we provide. Thanks again for your feedback.
