Description of Work: I ordered a garage door tune up from Angies list for around $39. I was not here when the man came to do the tune up but apparently there were other things wrong so he put in a gear kit and a set of rollers and charged an additional $237.50 after giving my mom a 5% senior discount. | |To get a general idea about costs, a Gear kit at Sears runs around $24 dollars and rollers around $8, plus installation of those two parts. Total we paid $277 for Champions work (tune up plus two parts installed). A new GDO is about $150. No option was given to just get a new GDO. I does seem to me that a brand new chain drive GDO plus installation would likely exceed what I paid Champion but not by much, not so much to not make it worth a brand new unit, especially when the tech made other recommendations to replace the bearings in the Spring. No option to pay a little more and just get a new unit was offered to my mother.

Sorry to hear about your disappointment, however, we NEVER move forward with recommendations that the techs provide without approval first. A new chain drive opener alone would have cost $345 installed. The tech recommended the most cost efficient fix for the opener that was not working. The rollers keep the door working smoothly and help ensure that the opener does not have to work as hard which will help extend the life of your current opener.
