I had the same experience as the last reviewer. I called for an estimate, and the first response was within 24 hours. I setup a consulation in home (for bathroom remodels), and the salesperson was punctual to the home for the appointment. However, during the walk through, I don't believe he listened to me (i.e. I said I wanted to keep the tub, and he thought I said to remove the tub. I said I didn't like light bars in the bathroom, he told me light bars will cost about $XX. There were a couple of other examples as well). He also didn't give me any suggestions for the space; I think he just intended to quote exactly what I wanted although I clearly didn't know what I wanted. We've never remodeled before, so I needed a little guidance on what possibilities were versus cost. Long story short, I was underwhelmed with the walk through, and then when he didn't get me the quote in the time frame he quoted (1 week - as of 8 business days I just sent an email and said don't bother), we went with someone else who has been shopping with us side by side, estimated costs per fixture & sub project, and has hit every deliverable timing milestone as promised. I suspect the monitor of Angie's List from this provider will say "well, we were waiting on you to get information on a bath fixture you wanted" -- my response to this would be that it was clear you were writing allowances per fixture anyway, put the allowance in I gave you at the walk through and then if it's more or less we'll deal with it later. And when requested/reminded, I gave the info for the Kohler body spray shower description within 48 hrs. I think that this builder has more business than either they can or want to handle. That's fine, but don't waste my time if you're not interested in my business, or before you schedule the home visit, tell me when you can start the work. We went with another contractor that I'll review when the project is finished. I would never recommend even getting an estimate from Plekkenpol.

One of their sales people came out, looked at my bathroom, took measurement, etc. and said he would have an estimate in about a week. Four weeks later I had heard nothing so I hired someone else.

I like their work. They are very meticulous and they do a great job.

This was the second major job Plekkenpol did for us (we did a complete second-story remodel in 2005). They were great to work with. They keep a construction team on-staff, so the communication is good and the quality of workmanship is excellent. They initially estimated 6 weeks to completion, and came in very close to that. They fully met our expectations around timing.

They have been very dilligent in working with me on my shutter project. They are not up yet, but I have seen the custom shutter and they look very good. The porch railing that they did was very well done. They have done very good work on my smaller projects.

The cabinetry was fantastic; however, I didn’t feel that they put our project as a priority. They do good work, but they are looking for bigger projects, and I felt as though they thought we were just a bathroom remodel. I would look elsewhere before I went with them again.

We did not engage them, so nothing to report.

We solicited several bids from very different types of contractors. It ranged from single employee companies based on recommendations, to high end companies and the one from Plekkenpol based on Angie's List feedback. Plekkenpol came in right in the middle of the bids, but there willingness to work with us on all the finer details and excellent salesperson (Pat Idstrom) really made the difference in our decision. The initial site visit was very detailed and they made sure to ask us all the questions about what we wanted ahead of time, so the review of designs and materials went very smoothly. Once the design was agreed upon, it was just a couple of weeks to get the cabinets built, during which time, their employees were prepping our room (removing drywall, scraping the ceiiling, running cables to new sites, etc.) The main worker we had (Taz) was extremely detailed and an exceptional worker. Once the cabinets were done, it was just a few days to do the install and finishing work. They kept the room clean and the rest of the house quite dust-free for the amount of work that they did. We couldn't be happier with the quality of the work, the time it took for them to complete the project and the people that we worked with. Definite thumbs up for Plekkenpol!

I worked with Dan, who was very responsive and helpful. He answered all of my questions, provided references and gave ideas regarding the remodel. He was very thoughtful and and friendly. We scheduled a follow-up visit with him and the masons to view the structural issue with the garage, which also went well. The estimate was in line with the others that I recieved. Ultimately, I decided to go with another company, but based on my positive experience, I would definitely recommend talking to Dan and Plekkenpol to anyone considering a remodel.

It was great. They looked at the space and then came back with a plan and an estimate in a timely manner. They were terrific and very responsive. They were a little pricey.

I thought they were very thorough. I was impressed with their process of estimation and presentation.

They did great work and were very reliable. Other than the lag time between when we wanted to start and actually started, they did an excellent job. We are very happy with our bathroom remodel.

Both times they did a very good job. They are not inexpensive, but they do quality work and they stand behind what they do. I would highly recommend them.

We received an estimate for a deck replacement and even though it was high, we had been satisfied with Plekkenpol's work previously, so we went ahead with it. We chose the materials, Atek decking, and the work began shortly after that. After the decking was removed, it turned out that additional joists were needed in one area that had not been apparent when the estimate was made. Plekkenpol provided the additional joists. After the new decking was put down, we found that the color was not the color specified in the contract. Plekkenpol made this right by removing the new decking and replacing it with the correct color. This additional work was taken up with the same urgency as the original work. I had expected this rework to be significantly delayed, but it was not. This experience shows just how professional Plekkenpol is. We paid no more than the original contract price, despite the major increase in cost that Plekkenpol suffered in this project. We are very pleased with the resulting deck, and used it for my daughter's graduation party.

Overall a very good experience. The crew at Plekkenpol were very courteous and answered all of my questions. They were quick to respond to questions and provide answers, pricing, etc. They were also great about consulting me on options for materials, costs, etc. on what was a design/build project. Before I bought this house, Plekkenpol built the original 3-season porch in the early 1980s. They found the old blueprints to maintain the original roofline (which was very attractive) and structure to transform the 3-season porch in to a classic open front porch. Columns, railing, spindles, bead board ceiling and fir deck, it looks great and has transformed the house into a classic look. Job well done.

Plekkenpol had a supervisor, a project manager, and more people. We were not too comfortable with that. We decided not to use them as we liked another company more.

The latest project in the garage was another example of great work, innovation, attention to detail and solid construction. Jamie came out to discuss the project promptly and had several good suggestions to make to our original plan. Jamie and Pete arrived when they said they would, they worked consistently and skillfully, and they did not blast me out of the house with a radio. The project is exactly what we asked for and more due to suggestions they made as they went along. I knew this project would go smoothly because I have worked with Jamie and Pete in many previous remodeling projects including adding on a large library above a previous home's garage, remodeling a master bedroom and bath, finishing a basement including installation of a kitchen, bath, and full wall fireplace. You name it and they can do it and do it very well. Since I am a very meticulous and particular person, I usually dread having subcontractors in my house; however, this is NOT the case when using Jamie and Pete from Plekkenpol. I have full confidence in leaving (literally leaving the premises) my house in their hands. I do not ever worry about them damaging something, or leaving the area dirty or any other usual contractor problems. Not only that, but most often they have wonderful innovative ideas and suggestions to solve problems or enhance the project that I would never have come up with myself. My Plekkenpol experience is limited in that I do not have experience with other Plekkenpol building teams because I have always asked to work with the team in which Jamie is the foreman and Pete is the finish carpenter; however, I can certainly recommend that particular team very highly and I will certainly hire them again in the future.

They really stood by their work. They were very proud of getting good results and making us happy. They were by far the best among all the remodelers we have ever had. It was worth paying them even though their price was on the higher end. The quality of their work was outstanding. Their responsiveness was excellent and their punctuality was very good. I would definitely use their services in the future without any questions.

We had a complete bid package ready for them with descriptions of what we wanted done, pictures of the existing home, details of items and materials we had already picked out, etc. We requested an estimate and ideas for actual new floor plans for the house and made it clear it was a fast track project. We had high hopes for them and they were very professional. However, we only received a quick estimate for the work - no plans or ideas for what the new design would actually be even though we made it clear that that was what we wanted.

Original proposal was very clear what was included and what was not. Change orders were a result of our changing our mind on scope or quality. Very easy to work with. Installation crew was punctual and very hard working and cleaned the site up daily. Installation quality was outstanding.

What a colossal waste of time. If you have "requirements" or would rather not do small projects, why don't you just say so when you receive a phone call?

They came out on time. They figured out how to do both the first floor and the second floor decks. They worked well despite being in a tricky area. They cleaned up very well after themselves. I think that their prices were right in line with the other estimates that I received. I was very pleased with the work that they did.

Keith came out right on time, took some measurements and inspected the porch, and explained what Plekkenpol was able to do. They seem capable of handling much larger projects than ours, but he emphasized that no job was too small which I thought was nice. Their price estimate was very complete and professional, but was higher than other estimates so we decided not to go with them this time. For any extensive projects in the future I would definitely consider them.

They gave an original estimate of 35,000 but the total with changes came to 48,000. They arrived on time, worked every day, removed the old cabinets, hauled away all refuse, scheduled work of cabinet maker, Camria countertop, flooring, plumbing, electrical and painting efficiently. They cleaned up every day after their work. I liked their attention to detail and doing steps accurately and correctly. Their foreman and workers were skilled. We love the finished job. I would recommend care in making changes (change orders) to be sure you understand what and how much those are. The higher price for entire job of about 60,000 (with amounts for other materials, etc.) caught us by surprise. Their young remodeling consultant wasn't much help. Their list of recommended material vendors was helpful.

Overall the experience was great. We are retired, so around for most of the time work was done. The carpenters were polite and really kept to task! Joe Roberts, the sup on the job checked in frequently to see how project was going. I would recommend Plekkenpol to anyone wanting this type of work done.
