Seth and the team did an excellent job. From showing up on time, getting the the job done right and keeping me informed of the progress and what they were finding.
Description of Work: The garage floor is pitching towards the corner and the salt off the cars in winter months has broken down the block. We purpose cutting the floor approximately 7 feet back at a angle and repairing 4 block in the corner. Once the block are replaced we'll pour floor back with pitch heading away from corner.

I worked with Jerry and he was extremely responsive and patient with my many questions/clarifications. Their prices were actually slightly higher than some others I received estimates from, but I felt more comfortable with his approach....more matter of fact, experience based, flexible...not trying to "hard sell" me like some of the representatives from other companies. They did what I would have thought would be a full day+ job in 5 hours...he has perfected an efficient process/team. Clean up was excellent, he showed me the status at a few points in the project. I feel confident in their work and would highly recommend to others.

Called a different provider first, who did not bother to call me back. As a side note, that's becoming a major irritation across all manner of small businesses. Called Gardner Construction and left a message. Leanne called me back a day or so later (they had been out of town). I explained the problem and she arranged for Jerry to stop by on the following Saturday to take a look, which he did. He explained why the problem had occurred and how it would be fixed. I got the quote at that point. Since it was January in Minnesota, Jerry told me we would have to wait until a relatively warm day to do the job. A week or so later, he called me to say that the coming Thursday was forecast to be warm enough to get the job done. It was nice to see this level of proactivity. On Thursday as arranged, two of his crew arrived and did the whole thing. My wife told me that they were very pleasant people. I'm in the process of selling and it was really important to me to get this repair done as soon as possible. Jerry Gardner and his team enabled that to happen. I recommend them.

I found Gardner Construction on Angie's List to get a second opinion on a problem of some water that was seeping up through my basement floor, since the first contractor's estimate was to have a drain tile & sump pump put in at the tune of $2,340. To their credit, Gardner Construction was able to come within a day or two. The person said that, since where the water was coming in was right near the chimney, he was absolutely POSITIVE that the water was coming down through the chimney & out at the bottom of the chimney & that I needed to find a mason to fix the chimney. It turned out that that wasn't the problem at all (after paying a chimney mason a lot of money-probably didn't hurt to have that done but maybe not necessary). The problem I eventually discovered was a leaking water pipe under the basement floor that led from the kitchen sink & connected to the main water line. I discovered this myself by not using the kitchen sink for a couple of days to see if the water dried up. It did so I figured that was the problem. I then called a plumber who confirmed it by digging down below the basement floor where the water was seeping up & discovered the leaking pipe. So both Gardner Construction and Standard Water Control Systems, Inc. were totally OFF THE MARK as to the source of the water problem & I would NOT recommend either of them, as they did not do due diligence to find the correct solution to the problem & thought they knew the solution immediately, without further investigation.
Description of Work: Provided a brief verbal estimate of what the problem was & that I needed to contact a chimney mason.

I had an excellent experience working with Gardner Construction. I am looking to remodel my basement, but have had small amounts of water in a couple of spots that I wanted resolved prior to doing any finishing. I called Gardner Construction, and LeAnn was very helpful in setting up a time to get the estimate. They were able to come to my home the next day. I had asked them to evaluate for drainage tile, but Rob informed me that landscape grading outside the house would likely improve the drainage and fix the problem without having to do anything inside. I thought his estimate was very reasonable. He also priced out replacing some basement windows. I am waiting on the windows for other reasons, but decided to go with Gardner for the landscape grading. They gave me the estimate on a Friday and had the work completed the next Tuesday. I had some rock and stepping stones in the beds along the side of the house, and they replaced those carefully, actually improving the look of my landscaping. They left the yard completely clean.

After getting the bid, we were told there would be a wait of a couple weeks. Got a call back a couple days later saying they could start the next day. Guys showed up and worked very quickly removing, fixing and replacing the concrete. It was loud, messy work, but that was to be expected. When they were done with the major concrete work the driveway looked great, but removing the steps had caused cracks in the block wall. When the worker came to replace the basement windows, he also fixed cracks between the blocks (and an additional hole) in the wall. Windows also looked very nice. Communication was straightforward and professional - sent invoices via email. I would recommend Gardner Construction.

-It was a superb job, from start to finish. I was concerned about it's efficacy, because what we anticipated as footings were not found. However, one full seaon later, I can say that the majority of the problem surrounding parking lot run-off has been solved. I booked this job 6 months in advance, so plan ahead. I highly recommend this provider.

I was given a bid September 25 for some concrete work that was contributing to a leaking basement. At the time I was told I would need to wait 3-4 weeks. I called after four weeks to see what the status was and was told I could not get a date and I might not get it done at all this year. I explained that I was waiting to install carpet until the work was done and I needed to know if they were not going to be able to do the work. They called me back the same day and told me that they could not do the work. Due to the time of year I was not sure that I would be able to find another person with time to get it done this year. He said he would check and see if he could find someone but I never heard back. They likely do quality work but this was very stressful for me and could easily have been avoided by contacting me earlier.

Gardner provided a timely and fair estimate for the work provided. They were able to fit me into the schedule quickly, arrived on time the day of service, and were obviously experienced and professional. The sidewalk looks amazing and all of our neighbors compliment the work. They finished in 3/4 of a day and left the jobsite spotless. Of the 4 estimates I got from highly rated companies on Angies list, they were the most personable, timely, and competitive bid. I would use them again in the future and highly recommend them to anyone searching for concrete work.

Very, very satisfied. I received numerous quotes, this one was by the far the most reasonable. The drain tile was installed neatly and is functioning great. I needed a laundry tub removed and a new tub installed, Jerry made arrangements with a plumber to complete this work in tandem.

Our egress window well was not installed properly when the house was built, was too small for the window and was not code compliant. Seth came out and recognized the problems right away and quickly gave us a proposal to make it right. I contacted four companies. Gardner was the only company to come out in person and look at the job before throwing a price at me. When the new window well arrived, Seth and another worker came out to do the install. They cut out the existing well and hand dug the hole to the new size. We have an AC unit tight up against one side and a sprinkler system backflow and line on the other. No complaints about hand digging at all. They jumped in the hole and started at it. They laid down plywood for dirt and gravel removed so it wouldn't be in the grass. They worked quickly. The entire job probably only took 4 hours. When they left, they cleaned up and you would never know they had been there. The new well is anchored to the wall and supported on both sides by unistrut. They put well over 9 inches of gravel in the bottom and re-graded the surrounding area to flow away from the house. Great work. Very responsive throughout the process. Fair price.

I called Gardner on Weds and was able to schedule an estimate for Fri morning. They were very responsive and helpful. Bill came out on Friday and reviewed my garage floor, which is not standard as it is above a sub-basement. Others had told me over the phone that I would likely need to replace the floor. Bill told me he really didn't think that was necessary and advised what kind of treatment should resolve the problem (epoxy coating) and how much it should cost. He also took at a look at another question I had and advised when to call if we ever had water damage again. He was very professional and helpful. I would definitely call Gardner again if I need concrete work (and we will need a driveway soon).

We had a great experience and it appears the fixes that were made have cured our water problem. On the day the work was performed, Rob Gardner arrived with three other crew members. We had previously received an estimate of $7500 to fix our problem. Rob, who was not involved in putting together the original bid and cost estimate, assessed the area of our home where the problems were. We originally were expecting to have our front cement stoop taken out to get to the problem. But upon examination of things, Rob felt pretty confident that he could fix our problem without going through the hassle of removing the cement stoop. He had some great ideas and a skilled crew backing him up. And the good news for us, besides having our problem fixed, Rob and his team were able to address the problem at a much lower total cost to us - roughly $2500. They could have easily come in and done the job we were expecting - for $7500. Kudos to Rob for his straightforward approach and for his honest dealings with us. This was our first experience with Rob and his firm. We wouldn't hesitate to call on Gardner Construction again and would heartily recommend them to others for any water related issues needing attention. Steve and Marcia Nelson Eagan, MN

From the start, Seth came out and listened carefully and patiently to what I needed done and my concerns. He asked great questions and carefully clarified what I wanted done. When the quote was completed he walked me through everything and made some suggestions. During the project Seth and his team continued the excellence. They were on time, respectful and worked hard. There were some issues due to the grade of my property and Seth explained the options and made sound recommendations. Through the whole process I felt respected and knew my concerns were important to Seth and his team. It was such a great experience and no stress at all, I am so very pleased with the way the team communicated with me, did their work and the final results look fantastic. I highly recommend them. I have another project I need done, and when I have the funds I plant to call Gardner to do the work.

I cannot stress enough how easy the whole process was with Jerry at Gardner Construction. I submitted a request through Angie's list and received a call a few days later. After that Jerry came out and went though the areas we wanted repaired. This included a bowing and cracked concrete floor in out basement, a crumbling wall in the attached garage, and a small depression in our backyard in the same corner that the basement floor had cracked. There was no hard sell, Jerry listened to what we were looking to repair and offered advice on what was needed and what could be optional. It was clear that Gardner Construction has been doing this type of work for a long time. Jerry told me exactly what they would do and that he would have an estimate out in couple of days. Jerry did not try to sell us drain tile which all of the other foundation repair companies we contacted tried to do. We have had no problems with water in our basement and really do not need drain tile. Jerry also did not try to make the job bigger than it was. The day of the repair everyone on the work crew was friendly, professional, and all smiles. I had tons of questions and they answered them all. The repair crew worked quickly and were completed by early afternoon. My basement and garage were clean when they left and the work looks great. I am very happy with the work and would highly recommend them. I am positive I will use them again for any other concrete needs that I have.

The company was very responsive when called to get a bid on the project. We got three different bids, they were not the cheapest but they were available to do the job fairly quickly. Bill, the estimator was friendly and responsive. The crew foreman, Ryan, was very friendly, knowledgeable and kept us informed as the project went along. The whole crew seemed very professional, worked hard and seemed well trained in their craft. The project looks beautiful, better than I expected. We paid an additional amount to have some drainage pipes added and installed to correct a drainage issue from our rain gutter down spouts. One comment; I had some flowers along the walkway...I had taken most of them out, but left a few I thought were far enough away from the work. The first day of work I was impressed that they were untouched, so I guess I expected the same for the following days work. But, unfortunately, they were pretty much walked on. (Probably my own fault for not expression my concern for the flowers.) The workers cleaned up the area well and blew the driveway clean and also added some soil to the area near the sidewalk. All in all, we were very pleased with the work done. Looks great!

We were pleased with the outcome of the cement work provided by Foreman Ryan and his crew but disappointed with the follow up by Bill who had given us the original quote. We chose Gardner because of the good Angies List review and low bid. When the job was half done, Bill called up and said that he would need to "bump up the quote by $1000." When I asked him why, he said that the demo was more difficult than expected and labor costs higher. We couldn't see any additional labor so refused to pay the extra $1000. Bill had also agreed to tuck point and repair the front brick wall of the porch for $500. Another worker, an older man who seemed to be in charge on the day of the cement work, told me that in his experience Gardner doesn't do brick work. I called Bill to schedule this work and the call was never returned nor the tuck pointing done. We are now in the process of finding another contractor to finish the project. Although we were pleased with the cement work, we probably wouldn't use Gardner again nor recommend them for two reasons:I felt that Bill low balled the bid to get the job and then tried to raise the rate. Also, they promised the tuck pointing and didn't deliver.

Responded quickly to calls for assessment and evaluation of probelm areas where water was coming into the lower level of our home and the area where recent, heavy rains had washed out the yard around the foundation of our home. For 9 years we've had intermittent problems with water in basement, mostly only after heavy rain and/or snow melt. Spring/Summer of 2014 was the last straw. Got several estimates for drain tile/sump system. Gardner's was not the cheapest, but was very much in line with most other bids. The other contractor I was considering was booked out to June of 2015, and we didn't want to wait for the spring thaw. Gardner's was available in early March, so I chose them for the work. Before hand I had to remove a lot of shelving and some carpeting, but Jerry's crew did move the washer, dryer, and wash basin. As agreed, I had to move those back after the new concrete cured. Work was estimated to take a day and a half, but Jerry had extra help available and called out reinforcements. The crew got the entire job done in about 7 hours. As expected there was a certain amount of dust and debris to clean up, but very very little. They did as neat and clean a job as we expected and better. I have waited to write this review until I could determine that the system was working. Since the spring was not unusually wet (like the previous year) I don't think the pump had to run at all until a very heavy rain on July 6. Then I could hear the water draining into the sump basin, and the pump was moving it out. So far the basement has remained bone dry. With the slope on the property we've only ever had water problems at the back side of the basement, hence Jerry and I thought we could get by with a partial drain tile job. If we ever do get seepage in the front half I will definitely have Jerry and his crew back to do the remaining perimeter, and he assures me it will be no problem to tie into the existing system without having to install another basin and pump. Very happy with the work. Jerry explained everything to my satisfaction and his crew was very efficient and friendly. Thanks Jerry, and the same to your crew as well!
Description of Work: Removed 18" of concrete from 1/2 perimeter of basement slab; dug trench to below footing; drilled weep holes in block; installed drain tile, gravel, and edging to direct water to tile; dug sump pit; installed sump basin, pump and PVC drain pipe; installed vinyl sheeting over drainage trench; poured and finished replacement concrete.

When we inquired about their service they came out the next day to give us an estimate. We called and said we wanted them to do the job and they came out the next week. They were very efficient and explained what they were doing. We've had water on one side of our basement for quite awhile and it was getting worse. The water was coming up from the floor so the drain tile works great. They finished within a few hours. I was very impressed on how responsive they were and how quickly they worked. I would definitely recommend them and would use them again. They were very neat and cleaned up everything before leaving. It is so wonderful not having water coming into our basement anymore even after all the rain we've had. What a relief.

Ryan and the crew did an outstanding job for us! The crew of 8 "descended" on our home at 10am and completed most of this work by 5pm. Very professional team that had fun (lots of good-natured joking), but worked so well together to provide seamless service as a unit. We would definitely recommend.

Everything went very well. I have no complaints and I'm truly happy about the whole experience from beginning and the end. We had noticed there's a crack of the exposed block of the garage and the right side of the garage sank about 3/4" last fall. I contacted Gardner and they sent Seth to do an estimate. He's very polite and honest and explained what works need to be done. I received the proposal the next day via email the with pictures of the example of the works they did before and would do for our garage and foundation. Seth had told that the work could not be started until spring but since one week in March was so warm that I emailed him and asked if we could start the work. He replied the same day explained to me that it had to wait till road restrictions were lifted and he had checked the ground that day and it was still frozen. I really appreciate he took the time to check the ground and got back to me with explanations. The actual work started on 4/21 and it took them 2 days. The crew showed up around 7:15am on both days. And they cleaned up perfectly before they left. Not even a tiny debris or garbage left. They cut the garage floor back 18", and removed the first 3 sections of the driveway and the one we had was 6" thick instead of the 4.5", so I think it took them a little longer to remove them. They replaced the crumbled foundation blocks under the garage and poured everything back. They also put rebar under the 3 sections of the driveway. Everything looked awesome! And the crack on the exposed block turned out to be no structural issue, and Seth brought wire and resurfaced the block, so it looks very nice. :) I will definitely recommend Gardner Construction if you need foundation repair.

The work was done well and quickly. When they made a mistake (setting the mesh up backwards, e.g.) they were able to compensate for the mistake rather than just hide it and continue working. The crew was careful trying to preserve the plantings close to the foundation. The only issue was contacting the firm. Their written materials (proposal envelope, etc) don't include a phone number or address--just an email. There was some confusion about whether or not the estimate included the Angie's List discount. The crew allowed me to wait to talk to the office which was not a simple task. The issue was quickly resolved, I sent payment, but did not receive confirmation that it was received. I need to find the phone number again and check that the payment arrived.
Description of Work: They redid the foundation on two walls and patched foundation on a third wall.
