They did an appraisal and offer to purchase collection during the meeting. They were surprised when we wanted to obtain a second appraisal. The second appraisal of the collection was almost 50% higher in value so I sold it to the other company.

I had a box of coins that I hadn't sorted out. Mark S was very professional and not annoyed by my small mess of coins. Mark made sure I understood how the value of the coins was determined and answered any questions I had. The process was fairly quick and I walked away with a check for more than I had anticipated.

We were extremely expressed by the care and professionalism of all of the people we worked with at American Rare Coin. We worked with both Mark and Daniel, both of whom have decades of experience in the business and were very knowledgeable and helpful. We are downsizing, and original went to sell a collection of coins. Mark was careful and meticulous, despite the time it took to go through all of our coins. We got prices that we considered to be very fair. We had such a good experience that we went back a little over a week later to sell our silver and some jewelry. Now we worked with Daniel who again was careful and we felt worked very hard to get us a fair price for our silver and jewelry. We strongly recommend them for anyone considering selling coins, bullion, or collectibles.

We felt the person evaluating was very knowledgeable and careful and took his time with the many coins of many denominations and even countries. While we cannot know the actual value to American Rare Coin of the collection, the offer seemed generous to us. In all, we found the company professional and frankly, we were unable to find a rival in the Twin Cities to evaluate the collection so it seemed almost the only such large company in town. Silver dollars were quite valuable especially from pre-1900 dates. However several single coins were singled out for more value demonstrating the detailed examination the collection received. We found the office in a large office building near the entrance, very convenient. Security was obvious.

The receptionist was charming on the phone and when I entered but the new "Senior Numismatist" was cool, uninterested and seemed to be annoyed that I had brought in such worthless coins. He was curt and aloof. I tried to draw him out of his snit but he seemed happy to be 'above it all'. I even asked him how he got interested in coin collecting thinking that might garner some friendly conversation. He did nothing to make me feel welcome or inspire me to learn more about coin collecting. He was cranky about having to garden for 5 hours before coming to work. I shared my love for gardening but that did little to warm his iciness. He will never know my horticulture background but I would have been happy to discuss my expertise. I am employed by a large MN organization and when asked about my work I gush with all the data I can provide. How I got interested, what a person can do to pursue varied areas of study to join such a marvelous place and the like. I want them to love what I love. He did not inspire me to do any of that. I left not giving a whit about coins nor wanting to spend any time learning about them.

On behalf of all of us and as President of American Rare Coin please accept my sincere apologies and thanks for taking the time to address your experience with us – unfortunate as it was in this case. Your experience is not acceptable nor is it to our high standards. We strive to understand the importance of connecting with our customers every day. Our (continuous) in-house training always focuses on serving the customer in a dignified and courteous manner. The customer experience is foremost – it is what matters - the business transaction itself is a distant second. If we do it right “the numbers” will take care of themselves and people are not numbers. Thank you again for your frank review – I can assure you that we take your sentiments to heart and we view it as an opportunity for us to address and revisit those areas where we can do better. Thank you. Matthew Abbott, President of American Rare Coin

We first took a couple of dozen sliver dollars for appraisal, to check out the business and their process. The appraiser quickly sorted the coins into value classes, explained the classifications and his reasons for them, and made a purchase offer that met our expectations. We left with a check in hand. A week later, I returned with the rest of our collected coins, and had a similar experience.

Hi [member name removed], we wish we could have paid you more. We recognize that some dealers do not provide the best value upfront and that is why we post the rates we pay on our website CoinsOnLine.com. This way customers like you can see what we pay compared to the competition. We are happy you sold your items at American Rare Coin and Collectibles, but we are equally happy for you. Thank you for your business.

After checking Angie's List for coin dealers I called American Rare Coin and Collectibles. I had a number of coins my father had left me a number of years ago and wanted to see what they were worth. I was also interested in potentially selling them. Upon calling I received a same day appointment and was told most appointments take under an hour. I had looked at their website which was very easy to navigate. My coins were sorted similar to how their website is set up. I arrived and Mark said he would help me. He was great at providing both estimates and education. He clearly explained the various types of coins I had, what they were worth and why. There was no pressure to sell the coins but he was willing to buy any and all that were more than face value. Mark offered options with some Canadian coins that were in the mix. I sold most of the coins and walked out with a check that was more than I expected. The entire experience was excellent and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Their website had information on over 80% of what I was looking to sell, so I had a decent idea going in on what it was worth. The process was relatively quick and easy. And what I appreciated was that everything was so transparent and most of their information is available in advance via their website or by phone. I felt very confident that I received a fair value and actually left with slightly more than I thought I would! TIP: if you have a largeamount of coins, make an appointment. Then can get surprisingly busy!

My father inherited some coins from his brother and I was asked to see if they were worth anything. This was my first experience with this firm and they were wonderful. They gave me a written estimate which I took to my Dad. When he decided to sell, I returned and the amount I was given was even higher than the estimate because the price of silver had gone up in the ensuing week! Very honest and trustworthy people , I would use them again.

Overall, it was a good experience. It just feels weird having to be buzzed in to a place of business and I felt as though my every move was being watched (which I'm sure it was). Besides that, I felt as though I received a fair price for what I was selling. I would use them again and would recommend them also. They have a good reputation in the industry from what I've heard.

I took my gold jewelry into American Rare Coin to have it evaluated for sale as scrap gold. They walked me through the process, showed me each step, weighed everything in front of me and explained their system for pricing the pieces. They seemed genuinely interested in helping me get the best value for my gold. I ended up selling most of my pieces to them, only keeping those with jewels that may be more valuable as intact pieces. They separated some salable stones from the gold and advised me to look for a place to sell the loose stones. I would highly recommend them, their service was wonderful, and I had a great time learning about the process. I originally chose American Rare Coin because a KARE-11 comparison review showed that they paid a higher amount than similar gold buyers in the Twin Cities.

Not having ever done this before, I was somewhat nervous to see what my old gold and silver jewelry was worth. I haven't worn the pieces in years so I didn't think I'd be losing anything, other than some sentimenal value. The folks at American Rare Coins and Collectibles couldn't have been nicer. Not having done this before I was a bit nervous; but upon arriving, they made me feel very comfortable. Based on current market prices, the gold pieces brought much more value than the silver; no surprise to me. Lo and behold I walked out with a check in the amount of $2,315! Wow, what a profitable Saturday morning. Thank you American Rare Coins and Collectibles! I plan on recommending you to my friends!

Our experience with American Coin was very nice. My husband went in to see if his old coins were worth anything. The gentleman was very honest. Told him which coins didn't have a value and which ones were worth something. Gave my husband a price and asked if he was interested in selling, even telling him he could go home and think about it.
Description of Work: These folks are very nice and professional. No pressure what so ever to sell your coins. I wouldn't have felt bad about walking away if I didn't like the price they quoted. They also purchase gold and silver jewelry. When we left, there was a line of people waiting to be served. Also, they gave me $110 more than the Gold Guys at the MOA quoted me.

I was looking for the value of a gold ring and after a phone call, I took the ring to American Rare Coin and Collectibles. They were friendly on the phone and in person, not intimidating, knowledgeable and very helpful. The employee weighed the ring and gave me a quote based purely on the weight and type of gold if I wanted to sell it for its metal value. The employee offered a lot of helpful advice on trying to re-sell the ring intact vs selling the ring for the metal value (melting it down) He also noted that employees do not work on commission. He explained that if I wanted to retain the stones out of the ring I would need to have them removed by a jeweler and gave me a referral, otherwise, the stones would go to the refinery as they are tiny and not worth much. (I already knew this going in) The company posts the prices they pay out for precious metals each day based on the daily changes of gold value per pennyweight. I brought the ring in because I didn't know the weight of it, and the weighing and quote was free of charge. Once you know the weight of your item, you can also check the daily value for yourself by going to their website and checking the daily price of gold. I was told they will buy your gold on the spot and give you a check. Seemed like a simple and friendly process in selling precious metal trinkets, collectibles and jewelry and I would go back if I wanted to sell jewelry for its metal value.
Description of Work: Weighed and gave me a value of an 18k gold ring, offered advice on removing gemstones from the ring and advice on re-selling the ring intact vs selling the ring for its metal value alone.
